A Rare Occasion (OPEN)

Lucian for a change found himself in the common room, he had nothing else to do and was left to face the study that he hadn't done and was now threatening to impact on the holiday that was coming up, flicking open the various text books he needed, Lucian took out his Dicta-Quill and began to speak out the notes that he wanted and the quill began to scribble them down for him.

With a small sigh he stopped the quill and looked around, it was unnerving how quiet this place was and he couldn't even remember the last time that he had seen a guy around this place.

Tamara walked into the common room after having taken a short trip to her cold home under the ice. She wondered what to do next when she saw a guy sitting there, doing some homework. She felt she had seen him before. Then her head lifted slightly when she realized that this was the guy that had been at the creature meeting. The other one who was at the same place as her.

She contemplated whether or not to go over to him, not sure if he would recognize her in her eleven year old body, but she figured she wanted to see how easily he would recognize her, being an incubus and all.

"Hello," she said softly, walking over to him, "You're Lucian, right?"

She tilted her head to the side, not really waiting for an answer.

"Do you mind if I sit?" she asked, once again not waiting for an answer before throwing herself down in the big, comfy chair beside him.

Lucian looked up from his textbooks when he heard someone talking to him, he had dared to hope that it would be a boy, but alas it was not, at least it was someone to talk to though, and tilting his head to one side he thought that he recognised her from somewhere.

"Hey there, yup that's my name don't wear it out." he said with a smirk and gestured to one of the seats around him "Please do sit, it's nice to have someone in here, the sound of the tumbleweed was getting unbareable."

Sighing slightly he closed his book and looked at the girl again and then it clicked, the same person had been at the creature meeting, the mermaid, and he blinked slightly.

"I almost didn't recognise you without the tail, and what's your name?"

Tamara smiled slightly. "I wouldn't dream of it," she said calmly, with a playful tone laying beneath the surface.

She looked at him from where she was sitting, wondering what the tumbleweed had to do with anything, and then realized it had to be some kind of expression for silence.

He looked at her again, and realization crossed his features. Tamara's small smile widened a bit.

"Indeed I am," she said softly, "My name is Tamara, but please, do call me Mara."

Her voice had always held a kind of playful undertone, due to her nature, and now was no exception.

"Why is it so silent here? It's rather loud up in the girls' dormitory, something I'm not sure whether I like or not," she said slowly, but it was on her for choosing a room filled with young girls.

Lucian chuckled slightly and wondered why the mermaid was in the school now, surely this was out of her comfort zone and she was far away from the water. Not choosing to question it, Lucian merely nodded.

"Odd to see you out of the water Mara, I didn't know that you were allowed out of it, or could even if you wanted to. Super mermaid?" he asked with a smirk.

Hearing the playful undertone in her voice made Lucian raise his eyebrow and wonder why she was doing so, after all he hadn't heard her speak much in the meeting.

With a shrug of his shoulders Lucian looked around:

"I don't quite know why it's so silent, maybe there aren't any boys around here, and all the girls are off doing girly things so it's just little old me. Well, I wouldn't think that it would have been your scene."

Tamara smirked. "Super mermaid? Nah. German mermaid. I was born on land. Of course, as there are no mermen of my kind," she said calmly, "We're just very rare."

Tamara raised an eyebrow. "Yes, how old are you?" she asked him.

"As for doing girly things, I find that girls really doesn't know how to be girls at times. But maybe that's only due to my nature," she said calmly.

Lucian did not know that much about the differences in types of mermaids, or mermaids in general, the last he had heard of any type of mermaids they were green and looked a bit like a shark.

"Well Im guessing there would be lots of different types, it would be interesting to find out a bit more about you, as I have never spent much time in the company of mermaids."

Raising his eyebrow Lucian chuckled; "You know how impolite it is to ask such a personal question upon our first proper meeting? But I'm around 200, Raziel knows exactly." he shrugged.

With a small smirk Lucian thought on what he knew of girls; "Well now a days most of them just run around wanting to kiss boys and doing their hair."

Tamara shrugged. There were only so few types of mermaids, really, but if you counted the whole species derived from Nymphs... Well, then you'd get more.

"Well, there really are just about three-four types of mermaids in the world, but counting nymphs and creatures derived from them, then I guess you'll be getting much more. My kind has been alive for over two millenium, but I've only lived for around half of it," Tamara said calmly, "My mother was an original."

Tamara then laughed. "I do suppose you're right, though then, even after what I told you, I'll tell you that I am around 1000-1200 years old. I have no idea which of them," she said. "But let's just say that I was around before Hogwarts was," she added with a smirk.

She tilted her head to the side. "Raziel? Who is that? Amazing name, she has," she said softly, saying 'Raziel' in her mind a few times.

Tamara shook her head. "Oh, no, that's not what I meant. That is what has always been, but it is how they do everything. They're so ... easy-going. But hey, I don't mind that. I actually think I could adapt quicker to the society now than I could before," she said with a wicked grin.

Lucians eyes widened a little bit and he couldn't help but take in the information that he was given, it was a little shocking to him that he knew so little about the other species around him, maybe Raziel was right about his lack of cultural appreciation.

"Well that I never knew. You learn something new every day I believe the phrase is." he grinned "Well I have to say I definately prefer you to the screaming fishy green things."

Almost with a grimace Lucian waved his hands in the air as if simulating waves, or the way that the other mermaids moved when he had met them last.

With a smirk he shook his head and wondered if anyone he would meet here would be normal.

"Well I have to say you look pretty good for your age, and you're way older than me, thats a surprise, and anyway, how come you chose to come here? Surely you'd want to be free somewhere warm."

Lucian grinned lightly and he thought of his dear sister; "Raziel is my sister, do you have any family around?"

Thinking about having to adapt to society, Lucian nodded slightly but then boys had always been the same most like girls probably, they like testosterone.

"Same with boys I guess, violence, and girls, not much to adapt to."

Tamara laughed her sing-song like laugh. Yes, the screamy fishy green things. She had seen them so many times in her life underneath the surface. She had no idea how long they had existed, but she knew that they didn't live long. They weren't immortal. But their evolution was so weird that either they were completely new, or they were as old as dinosaurs. In that case, it was amazing to think that such a creature had lived for so long. Probably their strength.

"I wouldn't count your blessings yet, dear Lucian. Mermaids can be very cruel sometimes," she said truthfully.

But the more Tamara hung around people, the more conscious she got of her actions. She could even go to the point of regretting one of them.

"Thank you, and I must say the same for you," Tamara said calmly, giving him a kind smile.

She had never thought the incubuses to be beautiful. Sure, alluring and seductive, but not physically beautiful. That wasn't know to her. But she hadn't met any though, so she couldn't really speak to loudly about it.

"Oh, and as for the warmth? I live under 'Das Eis'. The warmth is welcoming sometimes, but mostly only over the surface. If the water is clear and beautiful, then yes, I would say that it would be a delight to swim there, but I find the winter more soothing than the summer," she said calmly, though she didn't know which of them she liked the best.

Tamara smiled. "Your sister? Is she an incubus too, or has she fully developed?" she asked curiously. Then she nodded. "Yes, I do have a sister myself. I had a whole bunch of them, but they were stupid enough to misuse their powers and ended up dead. I don't know why, but mermaids never really get a close relationship to their families. At all, really. Aquale, my still-living sister, is a good sister, though, but it doesn't run deep. It only runs as far as it does now because we've known each other for ninehundred years. All her life," Tamara explained.

She sighed. "Indeed. It seems that the interaction with the opposite sex is what matters on the surface. Sure, it matters to mermaids as they have the power of seduction, but that's mostly to draw people in and, eh, for lack of better words, feast on their blood," she said, "Not that we do that a whole bunch. I actually decided to just go to the pubs for creatures to drink really. It makes everything so much easier."

Lucian found the sing song laugh that Tamara had was one that both made him shiver lightly and one that intrigued him, perhaps it was one of the things that she used to enthrawl humans into the water, although he didn't want to think about what happened when they were down there.

"Well then I'll keep myself away from the lake when you're in a bad mood then, although I'm not sure that my blood would taste very nice." he smirked.

Running his hand through his hair, Lucian smirked lightly and held his head up proudly, and it was something that he was proud of; "Well thank you very much, I do try."

Having once been around the lake, Lucian had found that it was supremely cold, although, it was probably colder to him because he was used to warmer climates, much warmer climates. Even the Carribean sometimes was too cool.

"I wont be swimming there any time soon, I might come and sit at the edge to keep you company if you want to though." he smirked.

Lucian smiled lightly, he always enjoyed thinking about Raziel, even though he acted like he couldnt care less about her, that was a lie, and he missed her; "No she's still an incubus, she doesn't want to move on to bigger things, she wants to stay as she is."

Even though he had only just met Tamara he was glad that she had some family left, after all it would be very lonely for her to be all on her own for all of these years.

"Well I am glad that you still have one sister that you can talk to if you get lonely, and I'm glad that you don't do that any more I think the Highmaster would get suspicious if the students kept dissappearing."

Tamara smiled widely. "Oh, don't worry, your blood is not appealing to me in an edible way," she said truthfully.

Human blood was the only thing that could truly stench the thirst of a mermaid, but bird blood also seemed to do the trick, should it be necessary. Other types of blood would only be appealing in completely different ways, one type would make a mermaid charge and kill, another would make them protective and so on. It was weird to be a mermaid when you met someone who's blood made you want to give them your life. Of course, the only way of figuring things like this out was to actually taste the blood. She did wonder what an incubus' blood would mean to her, but she had no intentions of figuring that out. Yet.

"Well, your attempts are successful," she said with a wink.

"Oh, no, you don't have to bathe in that lake. I think the few people who does that actually ends up drowning, much because of spasms," Tamara said seriously, "But some company wouldn't hurt, no."

Tamara narrowed her eyes slightly. "What about yourself? Do you want to stay an incubus, or move on to bigger things, as you say?" she asked.

Tamara shrugged. "You won't get much out of Aquale, though. She can be extremely silent at times, but she is better than no company, truly," she said and then smiled, "Yes, I wouldn't want the highmaster on my tail. Literally or figuratively."

Lucian pretended to wipe his brow as if he was relieved at the news that his blood was not appealing to the mermaid in front of him, he wondered for a moment how she would feed, if it was like a vampire or a more primal rough way.

"Well that's a big relief, just give me the heads up if you ever get the case of the munchies so I can get out of there." he joked.

Blinking a little Lucian decided that he would not set foot in that lake just in case he was going to get killed by some spasm that he couldn't stop as a result of it; "Thanks for the tip, I'll not be coming in my swimshorts then."

At the question Lucian hummed lightly and even though he already knew his answer, he mulled it over once more before saying it;

" I will go where my sister goes, so I will be staying as I am for the time being."

Lucian knew what Tamara meant and he smiles lightly: "Sometimes it's nice just to have someone next to you when you're doing something even if you don't talk."

Tamara laughed slightly at the movement he did. Another human act. She hadn't seen it before, but she easily understood what it meant, of course.

"The munchies? That's a funny expression. And yes, of course I'll warn you," she said in an obvious tone.

Tamara chuckled some more. "Yes, the swimming shorts are best reserved for nice trips to hot, foreign lands," she said.

Tamara felt that the connection between Lucian and his sister was stronger than he led on. She didn't know what it was like to care so much for another of your family, because to her it was normal to just see family as acquaintances. So she merely smiled. "You sound like an honorable guy when it comes to your sister," she commented softly.

She smiled again. "Yes, precisely."

She hadn't expected him to understand, given the fact that he seemed to truly care deeply for his sister, but she was glad he did and that he didn't look at her as an abomination when it came to family relationships.

She leaned back in the couch and sighed deeply.

"It is calming here though, is it not?" she asked him, thinking about the fire and the soft silence that dwelled around them.

Lucian grinned lightly, he was proud of his ability to turn a phrase and he had picked up some pretty good human ones along the way, like munchies and things like that, it was all very good and he did enjoy mocking some of their phrases.

"I know tell me about it, the humans have the strangest way of speaking, I would like to speak in my mothertounge but nobody would understand me, which is a shame."

Thinking back to his homeland, which was hot and exotic, Lucian wondered if he might ever be able to return there as himself, not as another; "I love hot places, I hate being cold...I can't stand it."

With a small smile Lucian laughed bashfully;

"I try to do at least one thing right by her, she's older than me so she probably knows better too, all that jazz."

Looking around at the quiet surroundings Lucian couldn't deny that it was calm, but he could deny that it being calm was something he enjoyed.

"It is calm, although I prefer things to be noisier, silence often makes me nervous, I need something to be going on around me to relax."
