Refraction
Airen walked around the Black Lake. Sure his Renaissance style clothes were a bit old for the time, but he liked it. He had his crystal sword sheathed to his waist glad the Headmistress let him carry it. After all what was a Swordmage without his sword?
He found a tree that seemed to be used often as a hangout. Curious, he drew his sword and tried an enchantment exclusive to a Swordmage. Priori Memorialis.
He stood in place as time flew in his mind's eye. He witnessed many interactions among many famous people. So this was a hangout. He was glad. He sat down and looked at the water through his sword. The refraction of the light was a really cool effect.
This gave him an idea. He whipped out his sketchbook and started to draw.
When he had finished, the picture was magnificent. The background was of the Black Lake at its current state. With the sun shining brightly, and everything in full color. Inside the blade however, was of an event that took place before that time. It was his personal favorite. It was of Harry Potter and Hermione Granger.
Even though this never really happened in real life. He knew that it was meant to happen. He shut his sketchbook with a snap. He sat and took out his journal. After making sure that no one was around, he opened it to the nearest blank page at the front.

Re: Refraction
Alice had grown bored of reading the various books that were assigned for her classes and decided to walk about the ground, exploring instead. Tess had taken her about this part of Hogwarts earlier and she decided to return to the lake.
As she made her way around the water, she noticed a boy sketching. He was wearing odd clothes and carried a sword but she recognized him from the banquet on the first day. He had been sorted into Gryffindor as well. She couldn't remember his name though.
Quietly she made her way towards him, not wanting to disrupt his work. Her curiosity was fed, however, when she noticed that he glanced up quickly to look this way and that before returning to the pad before him. Thankfully he hadn't seen her.
Alice made sure to move even more silently as she came up behind the boy. She tried to look over his shoulder to see what he was up to, but his body blocked the view.
So she chose the next best option.
"Hello!" She announced her presence rather loudly. "I'm Alice Carroll Lane, I think we're both Gryffindors together."

Re: Refraction
Charlotte was on her way back to the castle from a rather rebellious stroll around the edge of the Forbidden Forest, having seen nothing to warrant it's being forbidden she had gotten a little bored and decided to move on back to the castle where she had the finishing touches to do to a painting that Uncle Richard had commissioned.
On her way back up she saw the boy that she had met on the train, Airen, they hadn't really talked since then and she felt a small pang run through her heart. It was because she was a Slytherin, wasn't it? Despite what he had said...
Biting her lip she saw him with a girl and wondered if it would be acceptable to go over to him, after all, she didn't want to be rude, they might have met up there for a reason, yet, there was no telling when she would see him again to talk to and she screwed up her courage, walking slowly over to them, her eyes however grey with nervousness.
"Uhm, hello, please do forgive me if I'm interrupting anything, I just wanted to say hello to Airen," turning to Airen Charlotte smiled "Hello!"
Then she smiled at the girl and offered a paint smudged hand.
"I'm Charlotte Smith, its nice to meet you."

Re: Refraction
Alice's eyes widened at the two were interrupted and she shrunk back a bit to see the girl. She was in Slytherin, wasn't she?
"I'm Charlotte Smith, its nice to meet you."
Alice shrugged her shoulders and was content with the fact that at least the girl seemed nice. She took the girl's decorated hand in her own and shook it firmly, offering a friendly smile.
"I'm Alice Carroll Lane. I'm a first year, Gryffindor. What year are you, Charlotte?" She asked, trying to remain friendly and hoping that she wasn't a Slytherin that gave her house a hard time.

Re: Refraction
Airen jumped. He hadn't expected for people to find him. He whipped his head to the direction of the voice. He smiled.
"Yes, we are," he said. He saw Charlotte make her way over to them. They hadn't spoken much since the ball. He felt guilty for not trying to talk to her. Where was his so-called Gryffindor courage?
"Hey, Charlotte. It is good to see you. Sorry we haven't spoken in awhile," he smiled. He was glad the Slytherin-Gryffindor rivalry wasn't making the situation awkward. They were just three first years chatting.

Re: Refraction
"I didn't mean to startle you," Alice apologized as she realized he probably wanted to be out on his lonesome. "I just saw you by yourself and was wondering what you were up to." She explained.
She noticed that this Charlotte girl and Airen seemed to have already met. She hoped she wasn't too far behind in knowing them and that conversation would flow well. She was just beginning to meet her fellow house mate. And she'd yet to see Charlotte.

Re: Refraction
Charlotte smiled as her hand was shaken, it was nice to see that the fact she was a Slytherin wasn't getting the the way of their conversation. After all she liked to think she was different to stereotype of her house because she wasn't all that bad.
"It's nice to meet you Alice. I'm a first year too."
The smile on her face only grew as Airen spoke, she had missed him, almost wanting to give him a hug, she restrained herself.
"Don't you worry about it, were here now aren't we? And that's all that matters."
Charlotte cast a glance at the sky, it wasn't getting dark yet so she may as well stay here for a little bit longer, not having a watch made it difficult to actually know when to head back for the feast.
"So what classes did you take Alice? We might share some."
