Annoyance (open)

Noah was annoyed. He was annoyed at his new home, which was althogher too cold. He was annoyed at his dad for making him transfer schools in the middle of the term. Most of all though he was annoye at his mum for leaving him here.

He angrily kicked a stone into the lake and watched as the water rippled around it. He didnt want to be here, in this new country where he didnt know anyone. And now he sounded like a melodramatic 10 year old girl. Great.

Suddenly he sat down looking over the lake, his eyes hardened as he stared into the depths of the water.

Dmitra was very, very happy. She loved this place. Cold, forbidding
......this was exactly her kind of place. Yes, she certainly missed her dad. And Salem.......nothing could replace her old school in her heart.

But Dmitra loved challenges. And Durmstrang was definitely a challenge.....with unfriendly people who refused to be impressed. Too bad that impressing was exactly the kind of thing she was good at.

Just then, Dmitra's good mood evaporated. Standing right in front of her, was a guy. Her own age by the looks of it. Ugh. She hated males. They were so bloody egoistic. Except her dad ofcourse. But Dmitra hadn't come this far for nothing, so she pasted a fake smile on her face and wished, "Hello."

Noah looked up and saw a girl about his age, his first thought wasnto blank her and continue his brooding in peace. However he was angry over the fact that he knew nobody, and maybe this was his chance to at least meet someone.

However he had to push himself to force out a half smile, especially when he saw the girls own smile was at least slightly faked. "hi" he said, "what are you doing out here" the way he said it made it sound like it was his property, he didnt mean to but it just slipped out of his mouth.

Dmitra arched an eyebrow, "Roaming. Why, am I trespassing on your private property?" Bloody males and their bloody egos.

Then Dmitra scolded herself. She was getting annoyed over nothing. She was here to make friends, not enemies. Thus, this time a half-genuine smile emerged from her face. "Anyways, you're a new student like me, aren't you?"

After a few moments of hesitation, Dmitra extended her hand for a handshake. "The name is Dmitra Diamante. Muhe, third year."

When she asked if she was tresspassing he gave a half smile, at least she had some backbone.

"Huh." he said, eloquent as always, "Thats wierd, I'm Muhe third year too, just starting, you been at the school long?" He then remembered he had still not told Dmitra his name, "I'm Noah by the way" he added offhandedly, before tking her hand to shake.

The guy, Noah, gave her the look that Dmitra was accustomed to from all males. The 'you're-not-as-wimpy-as-other-girls' look. Dmitra smirked inwardly. Well, she was anything but wimpy.

"Nice to meet you Noah. Yeah ,it is quite a coincidence." Dmitra ended the handshake and stood beside Noah, staring at the lake. "No, I'm absolutely new to Durmstrang, just transferred from the International Salem Institute of Magic in America."

"What about you?"

Noah ran a hand through his hair, it would have been nice if she had been at the school a while, then he could at least know what he was getting into. But then again at least they were in the same boat.

"I'm new too, had to transfer due to uh... family reasons." He said, "well at least we'll both start by knowing someone then" He then looked back over the lake with a small frown on his face.

"Yes. Atleast we won't be left all alone." Even if my sole company is a guy. muttered Dmitra mentally.

Then Dmitra noticed the distinctly unhappy look that crossed Noah's face at the mention of shifting to Durmstrang. Something is definitely up here. She began slowly, "Uh, I don't mean to pry, but are you unhappy or something on coming here?" Then she hastened to add, "You don't need to share if you don't want to."

Noah mentally sighed, was it really that obvious?

"Its uh, its not so much being here, its what I left behind you know?" he said looking at her to see if she nderstood what he meant, "plus I'm closer to my father here, and thats never too great" he finished with a small grimace.

"What about you? you dont seem too thrilled to be in my company" he said chuckling slightly, half joking.

"I think I can understand where you're coming from." Dmitra's mind immediately flew back to her cozy home back in the States. "But I believe that variety is the spice of life. It's a challenge for us to cope up with new places, yet we have to do it one way or the other."

When Noah mentioned his father, Dmitra's eyebrows crinkled slightly. "You don't like your father all that much, I guess. I can't really identify with the feeling, coz I'm really close to my dad. Never met my mom."

Then when the topic came to the comapany, Dmitra hesitated a bit. "To be frank, I don't like guys all that much. Its not because I had a bad breakup, or any other pathetic reason that people come up with. Its just that most of the guys Ive met are annoying, irritating, arrogant, egoistic, complete jerks....." Dmitra suddenly realised she was rambling, and she stopped and bit her lip slightly, "Uhm.....sorry."

Noak chuckled at her thoughts about men, she really should have realised my now they weren't all like that, not to say he didn't have his moments from time to time. "Gee thanks" he said with a teaseing grin, "glad you think so highly of me"

But then he remembered what she had said before, about variety of life and all, "change isn't always a good thing you know. People can get hurt by it." He thought he should quickly change the subject, "so, uh, where abouts do you come from in america then?"

"Well, I've just met you, so I can't quite say whether you're as much of a jerk as the other guys I've met." Dmitra said with a perfectly straight face, but the mischievous sparkle in her eyes betrayed her teasing manner. "But I must commend you for being much more tolerable than the others. " She added jokingly.

"As far as change goes, I think the only thing that never changes in life is change. Change definitely hurts, but brooding over it just increases the pain, don't you think?" asked Dmitra with a knowing look.

Dmitra completely understood the change of subject. "Well, Salem's location keeps on changing to protect it from enemies. So there's no fixed place. But for the last few months it was in Virginia."

Noah smirked a bit as he gave a bow, "I do try my best" he said teasingly.

"As for the change, I guess you're right, no one can brood all the time, but then agaon, no one can be too estatic all the time either. Probably best to be in the middle I guess" he said as he shrugged, "huh I've never been there before, sp why did you move?"

"Well, you do seem inclined towards brooding more, than being ecstatic." Dmitra noted. She smirked a bit at Noah's overly teasing bow.

Then when the subject of moving came up, Dmitra faltered a little. Truth was, she herself didn't know why her father suddenly decided to send her here, while he remained at Salem. One day he just looked really disturbed all of a sudden, and announced his decision. Dmitra, reading her father correctly, assumed it was something to do with her mother. And she had a strange feeling that all the answers that had been hidden from her for so long, about her incomplete family, lay in wait for her at Durmstrang.

"I......uh......frankly, I don't know why I had to move."

"Does anyone know why they do anything?" Noah said in a mock solemn voice, then he chuckled a bit.

"To be honest, I dont really know why I'm here myself" he replied running his fingers through his hair. "Well its probably for the best anyhow, now you get the enormous pleasure of my company" He joked winking at her, remembering her thoughts on males.

"Oh, of course." Dmitra drawled. "I would travel the seven oceans and seas to be bestowed the grace of the great Noah- whatever's company." Inspite of the obviously sarcastic reply, there was a friendly twinkle throughout in Dmitra's eyes.

"But now that we're here, reason or no reason, there's nothing we can do about it. So better enjoy it the best we can." Dmitra smiled, flicking a black lock of hair away from her face. "By the way, what classes are you taking?"

Noah grinnedd at her reply, he was glad to have found someone he could joke around with. "I'm sure many people would, I'm just that great you know?" he said, letting her know he was joking.

"As for classes, I'm still deciding on some, at the moment I'm doing dark arts and ancient runes, but not sure about others, what about you?"

"Your modesty astounds me." Dmitra grinned right back, equally happy to have found someone who didn't misunderstand her sharp jabs like most people were inclined to do.

"Dark Arts and Runes, I've signed up for them too." Dmitra inclined her head in agreement. "I've also signed up for Potions, and of course, flying." Dmitra smiled wider at the mention of one of the greatest passions of her life.

Noah grinned at her, "no kidding? me too" at least he wouldnt be a complete loner.

"So do you like flying then?" he asked her, seeing the way she smiled when she mentioned it. "What position do you play?" He hoped she did at least know something about quidditch, he hated it when people, girls especially, said they were into the sport just to impress someone.

"Going by my build, you can see that obviously I'm only good for Seeker and Chaser positions." Dmitra referred to her slim and lithe build. "Chaser would be fine, but the simple fact is that I am definitely not a team player," Dmitra grinned at that. "So Seeker it is. It also helps that it is the most dangerous position."

"But truth be told, I love plain, simple flying more than Quidditch." Dmitra smiled even brighter. "Back at Salem, there used to be a range of high, rocky mountain peaks and valleys nearby and I used to dive and fly down their hundred-foot steep slopes for hours. No balls, no games, no rules."
