Lesson One - First Years Empty Lesson One - First Years

Post by Doctor Florence Nettle Tue Dec 13, 2011 4:42 am

The Doctor stood out by the standing stones in the grounds of his school, the Durmstrang Institute. He enjoyed being outside and the fact that it was a little bit cold didn't bother him in the slightest. He grinned when he noticed all of the snow on the ground. Most other people would consider it freezing but he was happy just waiting for his students to show up.

Alys made her way to the grounds shivering under her sweater. Why oh why had she not worn a coat on top of her robes? And gloves, gloves sounded heavenly right about now. Being from around the coast, the girl really felt the cold in her bones each time the chilling winds and snows of Durmstrang cut their way into her clothes. In the few days she had been at school, she had almost forgotten what it was like to be completely warm.

Biting back another curse, the witch made her way to where she could see an adult. She remembered him from the Welcome Ball so figured she must be in the right place. Of course, she would have loved to know why the Highmaster couldn't have taught them inside the school, where it would have been marginally less colder. Stiffing a sigh, Alys moved onwards, watching her step carefully.

Once the students stepped into the standing stones area The Doctor knew that she would be warmed. The reason why he wasn't cold and she was no longer cold was that the standing stones had runes for warmth on them to warm them both up. The Doctor grinned and extended his hand to his single student,

"Hello!" he greeted her cheerfully, "I'm The Doctor. Nice to meet you again!"

The blonde wasn't exactly sure what happened. One moment she was freezing and the next, a wonderfully delicious warmth was flooding her body, making her feel unbelievably contented. But how could that be? She was still outside, the snow was still falling and the winds were still there. Yet it was like someone had not only lit a wonderful fire inside where The Doctor was standing but had warmed every corner of it beforehand. Could this simply be a side effect of meeting the highmaster, the witch wondered. His reputation proceeded him so perhaps people felt wonderful when they met him?

"Hello sir," she replied, smiling as the beautiful warmth enveloped her. "Thank you."

The Doctor gave the girl an odd look. She was the only one who had arrived for the lesson huh? Sighing, he handed her a piece of parchment with a symbol on it. The symbol was quite simple, it was the "all seeing" eye symbol. Found in ancient Egyptian writing, it was more of a rune than a symbol,

"For your next lesson I want you to find out what this rune means." he instructed her simply before shrugging, "Maybe then we'll have more students. Oh well. Off you trot."

Alys was surprised at how brief the lesson was . It seemed she had only arrived and now she was being given homework. Maybe the doctor was disappointed in the turnout, namely just her.

The witch really didn't want to leave the warmth that seem to emanate from where she was standing but she had no choice. Folding the paper carefully and putting it in her pocket, she bowed her head respectfully towards the Highmaster. "Alright sir," she said and started on her reluctant and cold journey back to the fortress.
