Shinies (OPEN)

Othala walked around the castle, more like skipped, she was happy to be here and the nice man Florence was so nice to her, she wanted to make sure that she did the best that she could in order to make him proud of her, so she had decided to go to the common room place he had told her about to make friends.

Holding her book in her hand, she sat down by the fire and opened it, beginning to look at the words with a frown on her face as she tried to concentrate on what she was supposed to be reading;

"The...c-c-cat...saaaaaat..." she began, before frowning and throwing the book away in a tantrum, instead pressing her fingertip and allowing some of her special shinies to come out and she ran around the common room trying to catch them, something that she loved to do, it was so fun!

Ivan walked into the student common room. He felt like being social for once. When he came in, the first thing he noticed were some flying colored flecks of colour that were shooting through the room.

The next thing he noticed was a girl trying to catch one of the blips of colour. Recognizing her as Othala, Ivan carefuly sat down his bag at a chair, before turning around to keep the running girl in his sight.

"Hi Othala," Ivan gently spoke, "are you trying to catch the flying colour things?"

Ivan sat down on the chair, before turning it so he was facing Othala. He allowed a soft smile to spread on his face. Although he hated to admit it, she had something cute about her.

Othala, when she heard someone coming into the room suddenly felt really embarrassed and she stopped trying to chase the little coloured lights and she tapped the runic tattoo on her finger, that was previously hidden and they went away.

All her special pictures were hidden until she wanted to use them after all, she had managed to figure that out while she was at home in her room.

"Hi." she said with a small blush, scuffing her shoe on the floor as she held her hands behind her back, trying to speak as little as possible so that Ivan wouldn't think she was a silly person "Me was, yes. You want play with me? Or is it silly? I no want to be more silly after all."

Ivan smiled gently at Othala, who seemed to be somewhat embarassed. She had somehow made the lights disappear.

"No thank you, I don't really like running all that much. You can play if you want to though, I don't mind."

Looking around for a second, Ivan spotted a book on the ground, it seemed to have been thrown, judging by the fact that it seemed a bit rumpled.

Walking over to pick up the book, Ivan was surprised to find a book with simple language exercices. Looking over at Othala, he quirked an eyebrow.

"Is this your book, Othala?"

Othala blushed a little bit more and she sat down on one of the chairs, opposite Ivan and she tilted her head to one side as he said that he didn't like running around a lot, she wondered what he did like to do, or if he was too old to play now.

"What you like to do?" she asked "Me like to play in the park, on swings, Florence took me to the park."

Pressing her finger again, Othala let one of her shinies come out of her fingertip and hover just in front of her, before gently blowing it over to Ivan, she knew as soon as he touched it, it would disappear though.

As soon as he picked up her book, Othala took it from him and she placed it on the chair, then sat down on top of it, she was embarrassed to have someone see her reading something for little kids, they would think she was even more stupid.

"Yes it my book. I try to read it but..." she sniffled "I st-t-truuuugle with big words."

As Othala sat down across from him, he could see that she was surprised when he mentioned not liking running all that much. When Othala mentioned the things she liked, and what did Ivan like, Ivan smiled.

"I like reading and studying a lot. My favorite subject is Transfiguration. And I like my owl, Muron, a lot as well. Swings are nice as well, but I usually get a bit sick when I play on them." Ivan spoke softly, hiding his surprise at Othala's close bond with the Highmaster.

When Othala pressed her finger, a blip of colour appeared again. Not moving, Ivan merely watched as Othala blew it towards him. Slowly reaching out to it with his finger, Ivan was surprised when it popped out of existence when he tried to touch it.

When Ivan picked up the book, he was surprised when Othala immediately took it from him and sat on it. Hearing her sniffle an explanation, Ivan smiled encouragingly at her.

"You should keep trying. Everybody struggles when they begin to read and speak. But eventually, we all learn. You simply have to try! Would you like me to help you?"

Ivan couldn't help but wonder what must have happened to Othala that was responsible for her lack of verbal and linguistical skills.

Othala happily listened when Ivan told her that he liked transfiguration, however when he mentioned that he had an owl, she looked around and wondered if he had brought it into the common room with him, she had always wanted an owl, she just never had the chance to have a pet.

"I always want owl." she smiled happily, swinging her feet "What type owl is Muron? Fluffy and white? Or cuddly and brown?" Othala asked, already wondering about what the owl might be like.

Giggling a little bit when Ivan touched the light and it plipped out of existance, she tilted her head to one side and whispered; "I like these little lights."

When he asked her if she wanted him to help her learn to read, Othala blinked a little bit, and bit her lip, before nodding her head and she hurried over and sat on the arm of the chair that he was sitting on, bringing the book with her.

"You no laugh at me if I get wrong?" she asked quietly.

Ivan smiled when Othala mentioned always having wanted an owl. He could understand that, he did love Muron.

"Muron is big and brown. He's an Eagle Owl. He's delivering a letter to my aunt though, so he isn't around right now."

Seeing Othala giggle when the light Ivan tried to touch popped, Ivan smiled.

"Yes I like these little lights as well. They are very pretty."

When Othala bit her lip and moved next to him, Ivan noticed that she was rather cute. For a girl. She had something innocent about her, and he liked that quite a lot.

"I won't laugh," Ivan softly spoke, "just try your best. You'll do great."

Othala happily listened to Ivan when he talked about his owl, she would really like to see him when he returned back from delivering the letter to his aunt, she wondered if she would be able to get an owl to send letters to people.

"He sounds nice!" she smiled happily, noting that she had managed to say something without getting it a little bit wrong and she felt herself swell with pride.

Her happiness only grew when Ivan said that he liked the little lights too; "I could make more for you if you want, I good at making lights, and clouds, I make them good too." she giggled happily.

Opening the book, Othala looked at th first sentence and tried her best to read it over before she started to sound it out loud;

"The...cat sat on the maT!" she spoke happily "Did I get it right?"

Ivan smiled when Othala said that Muron sounded nice. She had made a perfect sentence as well!

Ivan was confused when Othala mentioned making clouds. With a confused smile, he nodded.

"I'd like to see a cloud. And you have to do what you want to do, don't feel forced to do something because I'd like it."

When Othala read the first sentence, Ivan clapped for her.

"Very well done! That was almost perfect! It's actually mat instead of maT, but the rest was great! Keep trying! I know you can do it." Ivan motivated Othala.

Othala smiled happily when Ivan said that he would like to see what a cloud was, or at least the ones that she could make anyway, with a large beam on her face she pressed the rune on her back of her palm and she concentrated on making the cloud.

Then above them a small fluffy white cloud appeared and it placed a few drops of rain onto them before zooming off and dissappearing in the corner.

"See?" she smiled "I can make clouds very well. I didn't mean to get you wet though, it never have water come out of it before, maybe I'm getting better at making clouds."

When he said that she had gotten it right, Othala grinned and hugged him tightly before turning over the page;

"I'm good at that page, The...the man w-was wearing the hat." she read, with a confident nod.

Ivan watched in wonder as Othala had a cloud appear, simply by pressing the back of her palm! He didn't know that was even possible!

"No problem, that was very well done! I can't do things like that. Is it difficult for you?"

Ivan smiled when Othala hugged him. Wow, she had a pretty impressive grip! He wasn't meant to resist any kind of pressure. Still, it was nice. Hugging her lightly back, Ivan let go when Othala turned back to the book.

"Good job! See, you're improving already! All you need is a bit more practice and you'll be speaking as fluently as all the other students! Can you read me the next one?"

Othala grinned lightly and she was proud that Ivan was happy with her cloud, and he seemed to think that she was very clever because she could use the special pictures that she was forced to have when she was little.

"No it's not diffi...difficult for me." she smiled gently "I got these special pictures first see, so I know how to use them good."

Showing Ivan the two runes, one, very small on her fingertip, and one on the middle of her palm, so that he could see how she was able to do the things that she could.

Unable to stop herself from smiling Othala, pouted when she had to read the next one, her attention was already wandering, but she did it because she didn't want to dissappoint Ivan.

"The..." she paused "The boy swung the bat!"

Ivan was confused when Othala explained that she used pictures to create the clouds and the lights. When she showed him her runes, he didn't really know what to say.

"That's ... nice. May I ask why you have those pictures? You don't have to tell if you don't want to."

Seeing Othala pout when he asked her to read the next sentence, Ivan decided that a small break was in order after this one.

"Excellent! That was very good. Now, let's take a break, shall we?"

Othala smiled happily and she was happy that Ivan seemed to be amazed by her special pictures, they had never been something that people were amazed at before, they were just things that people knew would work and had to be put on her.

"Uhm...my fambly gave me the special pictures when I turn five, I no know why, but I think it because I was bad." she said quietly "That when they start being mean."

When Ivan said that they should take a break, Othala smiled widely and hugged him again before sitting on the floor in front of him, tilting her head to one side;

"You want to tell me some more things about you, I tell you things about me if you want?" she grinned.
