Background Information:

Born in Oslo to a Norwegian Ministry Worker and her Muggle journalist husband, Devereux grew up speaking Norwegian and English. His mother worked in Muggle Relations and that is how she met Alexander Keighly. He was involved in a wizarding accident that had to be covered up but Alexander didnt succumb to the Memory Charms. Gjertrud soon realised that he already knew about the Wizarding World. Gjertrud was told to help him adjust back into the Muggle world but they ended up marrying instead. The couple moved to England in fear of having their children sent to Durmstrang by her purist mother, Johanna.

He knew about magic from an early age and enjoyed going to Diagon Alley with his parents. One of his first memories of magic was a toy broomstick his grandfather sent him from Norway. His grandfather, Gjertrud's father Erik, had split up from Johanna after she discovered he was half-blood a year after Gjertrud had been born. He was always kind to the family. At the age of seven, his sister Anna was born. She looked nothing like her mother or father but like Johanna, her grandmother.

When he started Hogwarts, he was Sorted into Gryffindor and made many friends. But, he also became subject to bullying because of him being Norwegian which gave him close ties to Durmstrang. He kept his head down during his first year but gradually became more confidant during his next years there. He also excelled in some of his subjects. His best were History of Magic, Charms, Potions, Transfiguration and Astronomy. He felt very proud of himself when he topped the class in History of Magic in his second year. He took his O.W.L.s and got the required grade to continue his favourite subjects. In his N.E.W.T.s, he secured the grades for becoming a teacher. But, he was told to return at the age of 23.

He returned at the age of 23 and became professor of History of Magic and Head of Gryffindor House. He continues to teach and has become slightly famous for his odd style of dress.
