First Years - Lesson 2

Devereux was preparing his first lesson all year. It was unfortunate that he wasn't able to meet them all in the first term. But, family issues can really mess up your life. He had another read through his carefully written plan. He had no idea what they had previously learned from Professor Shine. He had decided on the basis of the Houses. It was a basic approach but kids didn't become experts overnight. He sat and waited for the class to arrive. He was waiting for a few minutes until he realised that there waas still ten minutes of lunch. He decided to wait a little longer in case anyone came early, as he had to History of Magic. Little time after he had thought it, the first students leaked into the room and took their seats. Some of them looked a bit curious why this strange looking man in an excessively bright red bow tie was in their classroom instead of Professor Shine. He smiled at them as they came in. "Good afternoon, everyone. I'm Professor Keighly. I'm your History of Magic teacher. I wasn't here last term because of some issues but now I'm here and I can't wait to teach you all."

He walked over to the blackboard and wrote the four Houses on it with a bad drawing of their animals. "So, we'll be learning about the four Houses of Hogwarts. Slytherin," he spoke it with a little bit of acid on his tongue "Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Gryffindor." He looked at the students and saw each of their expressions changed when they heard their House. "Today, we will be going over the basic histories of the Houses. I want each of you to open your books to pages 56 and 57 for Slytherin, 58 and 59 for Hufflepuff, 60 and 61 for Gryffindor and 62 and 63 for Ravenclaw. I want you all to research any House of your choice apart from your own. Begin." He walked up and down the rows while they started work.
