Broken Heart

[Tabi Ann Prewett]

Tabi and once again received a letter from Ivano that he had to leave again, she couldn't keep doing this it was not fair to either one of them. She was tried of being alone with no one to really talk too. She thought he was going to stay for good this time, but once again he wasn't. What was so wrong with her that he didn't fight to stay around.

Tabi walked out to the lake and could do nothing but cry. She loved him but it was fate that they shouldn't be together she knew this she had a dream about it. Ever since her sister died she had these premonitions and she was still trying to understand them. She had worked to control her emotions over the death of her sister, but this was once again something she was not planning on.

She was laying on the ground crying into her arms not paying attention to who was coming.

Humphrey started his walk down to the black lake, happy that he had an opportunity to get some fresh air. Schoolwork was starting to take up a little bit more of his free time, and he made sure to stay on top of it. It was pretty cold out, so he'd made sure to wear a warm jacket.

Once he got a bit closer to the lake, he noticed somebody on the ground. His first thought was that somebody might be hurt. Rushing over, the sobs filled the air, and he recognized her. What in the world was Tabi doing out here?

"Hey Tabi, it's Humphrey." he said, taking a seat next to her. She hadn't even thought to bring a coat, probably too upset. He shrugged out of his and set it on the ground. "You can borrow my coat if you want, it's pretty chilly out."

Tabi sat up when she heard Humphrey call to her and tried to smile when he offered her his coat.

"Thhats ok I don't need it." Tabi tried to say through her sobs. Then Tabi could not help herself she threw herself at Humphrey and cried into his shoulder.

"He left me again, I can' do this any more. Whats so wrong with me?"

Humphrey wondered what had put Tabi in such a state. She was always so tough, he never thought that he would see her crying. Of all the students in their grade, she had seemed one of the toughest.

"If you say so." he replied, a bit of worry in his tone. He hugged her when she started crying on him, trying to help. If he would have told his first year self one day he'd be comforting Tabi, he never would have believed it.

"Nothing's wrong with you Tabi. Something about Ivano has always seemed a little off to me." he told her, then realized that might not have been the best thing to say. "Sorry, that was a little rude. Did something happen between you?" he asked.

Tabi pulled herself away from Humphrey and then pulled her knees up to her chest.

"He is leaving me again, that man cannot make up his mind what he wants. I have been dealing with this for 6 years now and I am tried of it." Tabi sobbed out.

Tabi had ignored Humphrey's little comment about Ivano because she was at the point she didn't care any more she was done with him.

"I can only take so much heartbreak in a lifetime."

Humphrey watched her pull away and hug her knees. It wasn't right the way Ivano had treated her. He wished that he hadn't come back, all he did was hurt Tabi even more.

"I'm really sorry Tabi, it wasn't fair of him to come back and just leave." he said quietly. Putting an arm around her, he pulled her into a light hug. He could feel some anger at Ivano rising and he pushed it down, now he needed to comfort her as best he could.

"Yea..." he said, knowing exactly what she meant. "If there's anything I can do to help, let me know."

Tabi sighed and caught herself playing with the toes of her shoes.

"I just feel so stupid that I let myself be pulled in again. What was I thinking?" Tabi was just beating herself up over this.

"I don't know if I should break it off or just wait around until he comes back again." Tabi growled at herself.

Tabi felt a headache coming on and placed her hands to her head. Started to shake her head a little with the pain.

"God why can't this stop."

Humphrey understood the whole blaming yourself thing. He'd done some pretty stupid things too, and had hated himself for it. You had to learn from what happened though, mistakes can teach you a lot.

"You aren't stupid Tabi. Wanting to believe in somebody you care about never is. I know it's hard, but don't beat yourself up." he said, forcing a wry smile. She was his friend, he didn't want to watch her start to hate herself.

"If I were you I know I'd be done about now. All I can say is trust your instincts. They might not always be right, but it's the best thing to go on." Why had life been so hard on her?

When she started to clutch her head, Humphrey became even more concerned. Perhaps it would be best if the school healer gave her a calming draught or something.

"Maybe we should go see the nurse. She might be able to help with it." he suggested.

Tabi knew that Humphrey was right. Wait when did that happen. Tabi actually agreeing with something that he said, times currently have changed and every one has grown up.

"Now these words are going to taste like vinegar coming out, before you ask." Tabi smiled a little, "But your right, I need to quit making myself a foot mat."

Tabi placed her head on Humphrey's shoulder, "If you ever tell anyone I will have to hex you." she said with a smile on her face.

Tabi sighed, "I have been running my life around his and he was never there for me. He was not even around when my sister died.."

Tabi started rubbing her temples and said to Humphrey when he talked about the nurse, "I can't see her, I have special potions in my room for the headaches."

Tabi looked at Humphrey and wondered, "Can you keep a secret and I especially mean from Senium."

Humphrey's mouth dropped open in disbelief. There was no way that this was happening, the whole world felt topsy-turvy. She had grown up a lot in the last couple of years. "That must have been the toughest thing you've ever had to say." he said, smiling. "I guess we're starting to grow up a bit, huh? I did the same thing." he remarked.

He had absolutely no doubts that she would do it. "I believe you. You probably know some excellent ones, too. Good thing I know better than to provoke a woman's scorn." he teased.

"Nobody should have to go through that alone. Couples need to support each other." He didn't know what would have happened to him without his friends and Senium. "Look at the bright side, things can't get much worse."

"Oh, okay. Maybe you should go and get one. It is starting to get pretty cold out here anyways." he mentioned, shivering a little bit.

Keep a secret from Senium? The only things he had kept secret from her were presents and his animagus transformation so he could surprise her. "I-I don't know Tabi..." he murmured, looking at her. "She means the world to me."

Tabi laughed and gave Humphrey a slight punch in the arm, "I am sure it hurt me more than that hurt you."

Tabi was glad that Humphrey showed up because she was feeling so much better already, well at least for the moment.

"I have been alone so long I have gotten used to it I guess. Even though it hurts a lot."

Tabi could tell it would bother Humphrey not to tell Senium. "I understand its ok, I just don't know her well enough that she would keep my secret."

Humphrey grinned when she punched him in the air. "Must have felt like a tooth being pulled out. Thanks for saying it though." he said seriously.

Tabi was actually turning into a good friend, it was nice. Since Tess and Keiba had died he'd spent most of his time with Senium. He loved the time with her, but he didn't realize how much he'd missed stuff like this.

"Yea...you don't have to be though. That's what friends are for, right." he encouraged, giving her a light thump on the back. "Besides, I'm sure if you start looking you won't have too much trouble finding a guy."

Mulling it over, he came to a decision. "If it's really personal I might not, it just depends on what it is. But I know if I ask her to Senium won't tell anybody." he said.

Tabi giggled a little, "Yep very painfully."

Tabi didn't ever think about how short the school was any more. So many people were gone as she thought about it and Humphrey was about all she had left. She had not had a chance to talk to Charlotte yet.

Tabi thought about it, "Once again your right, I have you now. I will just have to put myself out there a little."

Tabi thought about it, her secret wasn't really a personal type of secret.

"Since Leshia has past away I have had premonitions. I am still learning to deal with them and that's what causes the headaches."

Humphrey smiled, "Well at least you can laugh about it, that's a good sign. They do say it is the best medicine after all." He had found that it certainly did help if somebody was able to get him to laugh over the years. That was one of the things he missed the most about his dad, he was hilarious.

"That's the spirit Tabi, grab life by the horns. The girl I used to know did, so I know you have it in you." he told her. "You should go talk to Charlotte sometime too. She's a great person to talk to."

What she said certainly wasn't what he expected. "No way?!?! I can't believe you are actually getting them. Have you talked to Professor Valerian or Slytherin about it, maybe they can help." If anybody would be able to it would be them. "I won't say anything unless you're okay with it. People shouldn't know until you want them to know about this."

Tabi got a shiver and realized she was actually a little cold. She must have been a little upset not to have noticed. She stood up and brushed off the snow from her leg and laughed a little.

"I believe my bum is frozen because I can't feel it." She laugh as she rubbed her but trying to warm it up.

"You know I have not talked to Charlotte in a long time, I am not sure how to approach people any more. So many people didn't like me back then. I was so mean." Tabi sighed, but it was true.

"Well I think I have talked you ear off enough, shall you walk with me back to the castle and I will tell you about these premonitions?"

Now that Tabi had calmed down Humphrey noticed her start to shiver. She was probably frozen to the bone. He'd offered her his coat when he first arrived but she had refused. As soon as they got in she needed to get in front of a warm fire.

"I'm not surprised, you aren't dressed even close to warmly enough." he remarked, getting up with her. When she started rubbing her backside he burst out laughing. "Sorry, I know you're freezing. I just never expected to see that." he admitted, grinning.

"That's nonsense, you can approach people all right. You did a good job in the train when you first got back talking to me." he said, encouraging her. "Well..." He couldn't just flat out lie and say she hadn't been. "Now you aren't half bad. Besides, Charlotte's a sweetheart, I bet she wouldn't mind being friends."

"Hey, this is what friends are for. We help each other a lot when they need it." Humphrey told her with a bit of a grin. "Sounds good, as long as we get you in front of a fire the moment you get in."

Tabi was laughing right along with Humphrey, "Well get used to seeing me do more weird things cause I am officially claiming you my brother." Tabi said with a serious look on her face.

She grabbed his hand and starting pulling him towards the school. "You know all my deep dark secrets now so you have no choice but to be my brother."

It is hard to believe that 5 years ago when they started school she couldn't even stand this guy and now she is telling him he was her brother.

"Well I guess I will have to see if Charlotte will talk to me." Tabi smiled

"Yes I want to curl up in front of the fire after a warm bath to unfreeze my arse." Tabi said with a laugh as she rubbed it again.

Humphrey paused for a moment when she said that, and then a slow smile started to cross his face. "Well, I suppose I'll be your brother. Now I guess if you start arguing with me all the time then it'll be normal." he teased her.

"Deep dark secrets, I guess I do. Good thing this isn't first year or you'd be in trouble. This could be fun though, I've never had a sibling before." he told her, grinning. He'd always wanted to have one.

She had been his enemy first year, but now she was fast becoming one of his closer friends. Tabi was a lot of fun most of the time, plus she was an interesting person. A lot had happened to her, and he felt like he could talk to her about his own problems.

"Good, because you need at least one girl to talk to. I don't mind being here for you, but I'm sure there's some things you'd prefer not to talk about with guys." he replied.

He hadn't heard Tabi use inappropriate language very often, he didn't mind the bluntness though. "Probably a good idea. Thankfully I'm not frozen because I actually dressed for the weather. I hope you don't get sick because of this."

Tabi smirked at Humphrey when he said she would have to argue with him,

"Oh you mean back to the way things used to be, when I was all superior and things." She said with a laugh. "Or that I am going to get occulmency down before you do, those types of things?"

Tabi smiled at Humphrey, "Its easy to be my sibling, just remember I am always right." Tabi gave him a light punch in the arm and took off running.

Looking back at him she started to laugh, "You mean you don't want to talk to me about how good the boy kissed or my bra size? What about my time of the month."

Tabi was completely laughing now, she had not had this much fun in awhile.

"I never get sick, I am just fine."

There was the classic Tabi smirk. Humphrey smiled at her, they didn't have to fight. It was just that they used to and now since they were 'siblings' it would be more normal. So weird, having her as a sister now.

"Hey, you were never superior. You just though you were Tabitha." he said, using her full name to irritate her. "No you won't, I'm going to be her apprentice actually. We don't have to argue, just an idea." he said, grinning at her.

That was a lesson he'd learned once he got a girlfriend. Chasing after her, he soon caught up with her. He was fast, he ran every day plus was a werewolf and he could use that strength to move pretty quick. "I already know girls are always right. But I still might argue with you on occasion."

A look of terror came across his face. Oh goodness, please not that. "We could if you want to. Your bra size...hmm, I have a guess but I doubt it's right." he said, smirking at her. "If you talk to me about your period I'm never speaking to you again." he stated.

"You are now. Just try to take care of yourself, that's all I ask." he said, laughing with her.
