Lesson Three Empty Lesson Three

Post by Briony Romain Mon Jan 09, 2012 7:26 pm

Briony moved into her classroom and for once she felt like she was going to have a good time, she hadn't had to sub all week and the world was looking up for a change, she was no longer a living zombie shuffling around living on pepper up potions.

Tapping the board Briony sipped on her coffee and sat down at her desk, waiting for the students to arrive and her lesson to begin.

On the board the spell:

"Expelliarmus."

Lesson Three Empty Re: Lesson Three

Post by Alice Carroll Lane Mon Jan 09, 2012 7:37 pm

Alice was in a hurry to get to her duelling class. This was one of the ones that she was most excited for. And from what she heard in the Gryffindor common room, if all of them showed, it would be one that had more of her fellow housemates in it.

She was hurrying as fast as she could, having been running a little late this morning. She was testing our her invisibility cloak late into the night and lost track of time. Thankfully Prof. Starr seemed to be MIA so she needn't worry.

However, being late to duelling was something she didn't want to happen. So she was hastily tucking her shirt into her skirt, pulling her sweater over both, and trying to attach her robes while carrying her satchel.

Thankfully she made it to the room with time to spare and saw that the Headmistress herself was at the front of the room. Alice was the first to arrive and she was eager to begin learning. She rushed all the way to the front and took a desk at the head of the classroom, something completely unusual for her.

She took out parchment and a quill after noticing that there was something written on the board.

"Expelliarmus" She muttered to herself while writing it down. She hadn't the foggiest what it could mean but she was eager to find out.

Why oh why did she have to take a wrong turn on the staircase!? She was huffing softy as she ran towards her dueling classroom. She knew that this class was more serious than DADA because this class provided for her a sense of power an a sense of even more fear. She was used to being hidden and surely she needed to fix hat, were she to gain confidence.

She did wish she could find that confidence especially when she didn't have a watch had no idea whether or not she was late. With one share turn to the left, she found herself in the room. She sighed in relief and walked in nervous as the headmistress was the professor of this lesson.

Lesson Three Empty Re: Lesson Three

Airen slowly walked into the classroom. He noticed the same two student that were in almost all of his classes. Choosing to go solo for today, he sat in a corner at the front. Looking up at the board and noticing the spell, his lips twitched up in a subtle manner. He'd learned how to disarm someone in armed combat, particularly with a sword. Now, he could disarm a wizard too.

Briony looked at her class, her signature twitch of the lips smile gracing her face, after all, there were more students here than there had been in previous weeks, obviously there were more students here with sense now, realising how dangerous it actually is.

"Greetings class."

Standing up from her seat Briony grinned and leant over her desk, her hands firmly planted on the wood of the table, and she looked over her shoulder at the board.

"Expelliarmus, anybody have any idea what this spell does? Or what it can do if it is cast in an incorrect manner?"

Alice's heart raced in excitement as the class began, she was eager to learn all she could about Duelling.

Paying full attention when Professor Romain begain, she was poised with her quill.

"Greetings class. Expelliarmus, anybody have any idea what this spell does? Or what it can do if it is cast in an incorrect manner?"

Alice frowned slightly. She had no idea what the spell could do. She instead she patiently waited for a classmate to answer.

Tess lifted her hand nervously, surprised that it came second nature as well. Rather than lower her hand, she wanted to express her knowledge and get some points to her house. She waited to be picked on, and hoped to get her house points, after all she was the only Slytherin right now.

Briony nodded as she saw the girl from Slytherin house, Tess, raise her hand, although as the Headmistress she could no longer afford to be bias, there was an odd envy of her husband who was now Head of her old house...

"Yes, Miss McCartney."

She said quickly, hoping that she would have the right answer so that she wouldn't have to explain it herself, and eat up more of the lesson time.

Salina had just wanted to take the tiniest of rests between her lessons in the Ravenclaw common room and had somehow managed to fall asleep. She awoke and looked at her watch, seeing that her Duelling class would've already started.

She raced out of the common room and as fast as she could through the corridor's, until she came upon the Duelling room on the Sixth floor. She opened the door as quickly and quietly as she could. "Sorry Professor," she mumbled, embarrassed at being so late. "I fell asleep," she added.

Hastily, Salina made her way to the front of the class and sat down, placing her bag at her feet and feeling her cheeks flush from running as fast as she could. It took her a few moments to catch her breath.

She briefly noticed that another person had entered, but seeing as she was on the spot her min began to quickly think of the answer.

"Expelliarmus, or disarming charm is a defensive spell, that if performed correctly disarms whatever is in the person's hand at a time. Sometimes it can blow an opponent backwards as well as disarming them, but it depends on the clarity of the spell and the user of it." she thought about it being performed incorrectly and her only guess could be "I-I believe that usually, people confuse Expelliarmus with Expellimellius, which causes something to alight with fire. Sometimes when the spell is done weakly but not incorrectly it can make someones hair just stand on end or blow them back a few paces."

She finished and hoped that she didn't sound like the textbook she had been reading all through the night prior to the lesson.

Getting up to the sixth floor and finding the room was more difficult then he thought it would be, and of course, Parker got a bit lost. He was positive he was going to make it on time, but now he wasn't so sure.

He pushed open the door to the room a crack, peeking in seeing only a few other students. It seemed like the lesson had just begun and he hoped he'd not be interrupting terribly. It was the class he'd really wanted to take to prove himself and showing up late wasn't the best thing to do.

He slipped in through the door, quietly taking a seat away from the others.

Briony raised her eyebrow as she heard the door open and she held her hand up to Tess as if to tell her to stop speaking before she began to give the answer, she didn't want her to be interrupted by these people coming in late.

Glaring slightly at the girl she looked at the boy who too came in late and pointed them towards the seats that were still empty.

"Sit down. 5 points from Ravenclaw, 5 points from Slytherin. You students both dissappoint me."

At the answer that Tess gave Brionty couldn't help but smile and she nodded her head, it was something that she was proud of, students who could give extra detail, as opposed to just saying the obvious.

"Well done! That is indeed the correct answer, you just won 5 points to make up for your house mates own tardiness."

Briony sighed and then addressed the class:

"This lesson you will be using this spell in order to disarm one of your classmates, pair up with someone, and make sure that each one of you gets a turn."

As he took his seat, he stared down. The others would be upset with him for losing points for simply being late. Though he was relieved when Tess made up for the points he lost. He still felt bad about it though, especially when being called a disappointment. He really wanted to do well here, and he certainly wasn't doing it so far.

Upon hearing the instructions, he sat quietly in his seat and waited. Why did all these classes involve so much group work? It was tiring.

Airen listened as the Slytherin girl, Tess he thought her name was, put forth her answer. He smiled slightly, it seems that the Slytherins weren't the evil house that past generations painted them to be. It was just a small group of them.

When the professor said to get into partners, he felt a bit awkward. When it comes to talking to girls, he wasn't the smoothest cat in the alley. There were a few exception's, though. He walked up to Salina. She didn't seem to have many friends, and he was sure his housemate was friends with Tess.

"Excuse me," he said to get her attention.

Salina flushed brightly as she had points taken away from Ravenclaw. That meant they were now on 0! She ran her hand through her hair and threw herself into listening attentively, looking for any opportunity to win back house points. She was most displeased with herself, finding that getting in trouble was only fun with Leshia, and when she wasn't losing house points.

"This lesson you will be using this spell in order to disarm one of your classmates, pair up with someone, and make sure that each one of you gets a turn." Salina felt awkward when she said that. She looked around, wondering who she would pair with.

Tess and Alice were friends, so she assumed they would go together, and the only other person she knew in this class was Airen- the other Slytherin boy was un-known to her. Instead, she remained seated and looked down at her hands which she had folded over one another on the desk.

"Excuse me," She heard Airen's voice behind and she turned around. Quickly, she stood up and came face to face with said Gryffindor boy. "Oh, hello Airen," she greeted him, looking down at her feet. Salina was ever a confident girl, but she was always very shy around boys that were taller than her.

She smiled brightly seeing that she got points for the house, but it wasn't as bright considering that someone had lost points for her house. She turned to see who it was and sighed seeing that he did seem to be late a lot. Nonetheless, she looked around wondering now who she could partner up with.

Alice was her first choice, obviously, but she then noticed that they were uneven in the classroom. Airen that boy would be with that Ravenclaw girl that always got in trouble, so Parker would be alone.

She simply raised her hand to asked the Headmistress a question.

Alice smiled when she heard that they would be able to pick their own partners. She turned to look at Tess to shoot her a wink when she noticed that the girl was raising her hand.

She then noticed that there was a dilemma- Parker wouldn't have a partner if she went with her friend.

Briony sighed and she pinched the bridge of her nose, she really did dislike teaching sometimes, how hard was it to just get into pairs and do the darn activity? Would she have to PUT them in pairs herself next time?

Infuriated Briony looked at Tess, her hand in the air and frowned at her.

"What is it? If it is 'Can we work in a three?' yes you can. But you've frittered away your lesson time by not solving this simple problem yourselves. As a result, no housepoints will be given for this lesson."

With that briony wiped the board clean and glared at her students, she expected at least competance from them, and the ability to do what she had set them without the need to be babied by her.

"Next time instead of giving you the choice I will assign you teamates which you will duel with, I'm very, very dissappointed in all of you. As such, you will be set this class work as homework, and there will be a test next lesson to see if you are competant in this spell, if you are not, you will recieve detention with me."

Gesturing to the door Briony scowled:

"Now get out.
