Cobalt, after being told off by both his daughter and the headmistress, took a deep breath and let it out to calm himself. They were right. Regardless of the boy's actions there was little cause for him to actually do anything to the boy.

No matter how much he wanted to.

Bowing his head to the headmistress in respect of her rather off-hand comment, Cobalt moved back over to where his daughter and her friend, Pyxis were standing,

"I'm sorry about that." he told her daughter quietly, giving her a hug, "I was blinded by anger for a few moments... I don't ever want to see you hurt."

Airen's shock had finally worn off. One minute Humphrey was handing a note to Charlotte, the next, Pyxis was confronting him, and finally, Charlotte was crying.

Airen slowly walked over and knelt by the seat Charlotte had occupied. Hanging his head down, he drew in a deep breath. If only he had stood up for Charlotte like he should have. Then maybe, this whole thing wouldn't have happened. He truly wanted all three points of this love triangle to be happy, but one of them seemed to always want things their way. He quickly brushed the thought aside and put all his focus on comforting Charlotte.

He grasped her hand softly. Looking into her eyes, he tried to convey all the guilt he was feeling through their gaze.

"I'm sorry for all of this. I'm sorry that you had to stand up to a person you wanted to be friends with. I'm sorry that your father had to intervene. I'm sorry that your date didn't do one bloody thing to stop it," he said gesturing to himself.

"Know this, Charlotte, I'm here for you no matter where our relationship goes. If it doesn't go beyond friendship, then I'll be your best male friend. If it goes to be more, then I'll try make you feel loved and respected like you truly deserve," he said passionately.

He looked over at Cobalt and Pyxis. He looked at Cobalt first. Steeling himself, he looked at the man.

"Sir, I'm sorry I didn't try to comfort your daughter. If you wish for me to never date her, then I shall respect your wishes," he said solemnly. He then turned to Pyxis. The Slytherin who tried to comfort Charlotte and was one of his pupils. He gazed at her kindly and sadly.

"I'm sorry you had to come between all of this," he said simply.

Laying a hand on Charlotte, he lowered his head and kissed her cheek. He whispered in her ear.

"I know that you need some time to yourself. If you ever need me, I'll be here for you," he said. He got up and began walking to a table aways away. It was where he could keep an eye on the girl who'd simply taken his heart from him willingly, but also it was a respectable distance away where he couldn't eaves drop.

Pxyis couldn't believe that Char wasn't going out with Airen when he apologised. He looked so sweet, and when he promised to be there for her as a friend or something more, Pxyis felt a small smile appear on her face.

Pxyis shrugged when he apologised to her, not really sure why he felt the need to. "Airen, it's not your fault," she murmured. "Humphrey can't just let you two enjoy an evening," Pxyis was still speaking softly, not really wanting to stick her nose where it didn't belong, but she wanted the best for Char and Humphrey was not it.

"Char, I know it's not my business, but honestly I think Humphrey isn't worth all of this. You were just spending a nice evening with you're friend, but he ruined it all. If he loved you, would he do that?" Pxyis sighed. She just wanted Char to be happy.

"If you feel better, Char, maybe you can go continue dancing with Airen? He's always been good at making you happy," Pxyis muttered to Charlotte.

[Sofia Slytherin]

Horst had finally arrived and she was glad with all the things going on around her she was glad to have a moment of piece.

So when he finally asked her to dance she was glad for the distraction.

"Why thank you Horst I would enjoy a nice spin around the floor."

Horst led her off onto the floor.

Tabi could not believe everything that was going on. Tabi was sure that when Professor Slytherin had given her reading to Humphrey she did recall that she told him not to smother her and to let things go at there own pace.

Tabi had gotten caught up in everything that was going around her that she didn't notice that he sister and her friends had left.

Tabi noticed Pxyis and Charlotte sitting off to the side and she wanted to talk to them and make sure they were ok. When Tabi saw that Pxyis had pulled her wand she was about to move in towards them. Pxyis and Charlotte might hate her at the moment but she would still defend them if they needed it.

"Hay guys, I know you probably still hate me and for that I am sorry, but I just wanted to make sure you were ok." Looking back to where Humphrey was. "I really wish professor Slytherin would not have given that boy the reading, he has gone crazy..I think." Tabi smiled at the girls as she knelled on the ground.

"Please forgive me for being such a prat, I want to do better." Tabi said as she wiped the tears away. "I want to be a friend and help."

[Charlotte Smith]

Charlotte smiled softly as Airen came over to her, brushing his hand off her shoulder Charlotte wrapped her arms around him in a large hug, she didn't think that tonight would have so much drama going on and was a little upset that she had ruined it for everybody, but she would do all she could to make it right.

"Airen, this was my first date ever tonight and I think it might be a bit to early to say anything would be set in stone but..." she flushed "I think I might like to be your girlfriend, if, if you'll let me after all the trouble I've caused."

Biting her lip, as she had taken her peircings out for the ball she tried to dispell some of the nerves in her stomach, returning the peck to his cheek Charlotte stopped bear hugging Air so that he could move his arms.

Charlotte turned to Pyxis and nodded, she knew that she was right even though Charlotte didn't want to hurt anybody.

"I think you're right Pyxis, things have all gone up in the air since things started happening between him and I, I don't hang out with you or Tabi or Tess any more and I miss that, so, maybe this summer I can make up for that?"

Smiling softly, Charlotte hugged Tabi as she came over:

"Don't be silly, I would never hate you, and I think that Humphrey might just need to have a think over the holidays, the first years tough on people."

Glancing at Air Charlotte blushed again and she tucked a straight strand of White hair behind her ear, she didn't know if it would be appropriate just yet to go and dance with Airen, so she stayed where she was, looking at one of the faux balconies that Briony had fitted to the hall.

"Hopefully that's it for tonight, no more explosions just dancing and having fun, I hope this explosion hasnt ruined it."

[Briony Romain]

Briony smiled swiftly at Lucia as she cane over to her and she clutched her alcohol like it was the line between life and death, there was no way that she was going to be stating sober tonight, and the student drama was annoying.

She needed to drown that out.

"Why, no, not many people and not for a long time, thank you for the compliment, and on that matter, you look lovely tonight Lucia."

Gesturing between the two professors Briony loosely introduced: "Lucia, Richard, Richard, Lucia."

Briony clutched her head, moving her hand to massage her nose, she groaned, why would they just not be quiet and stop crying? What were they 11? This shouldn't even be an issue yet, but then again it reminded her of her own past.

"Sometimes you know, students really annoy me."

[Lucia Henley]

"Thank you, and so do you. Guess we match in color," Lucia said jokingly.

She then smiled to Richard. "It's nice to finally meet you in person. I've heard quite the stories," she said, grinning widely, thinking about the 'active' relationship they had.

Lucia could also understand why Briony was so on edge thinking about the students. They were honestly only eleven. Lucia was 23 and she had never been so much in love with someone to cause a drama. She wasn't sure whether she was humored, annoyed or jealous. Probably a mixture.

"Yeah, me too," Lucia said with feeling.

Then she turned to Jaqui who was currently sitting alone. "I'm gonna go back and chat with Jaqui. She's really just the one for me to befriend, considering how much she knows about animals," Lucia said and with a small wave, she walked back to Jaqui and sat down.

"So, what is the worst animal you've ever encountered?" she asked with curiously.

What the hell just happened?! she thought sipping her drink.

She thought people were  having fun at the ball, or so she thought. But as soon as she saw the yelling the crying and the running off perhaps the dance was something she should have gone when she was older. For this supposedly fun event she saw mad, sad, and heartbroken expressions. She decided that she was glad she came alone. 

No matter how mature she thought herself to be, it could not be as much of a level as these students that cried over one another. The concept of crying for a boy went over her head, at eleven still finding the idea of a boy being more than a friend went over her head.

She wanted to walk over, and be a good friend, but what was the point? She didn't think that'd they'd need her, after all why would she walk over there to be ignored? She'd rather not, she preferred to be alone than ignored.

So she sipped her drink and wondered why she was there when she could've been reading a book. Oh well, at least she got music and punch...and live entertainment.

At her thoughts she shook her head perhaps she was more of a Slytherin than she'd let on. 

[Airen Auditoren]

Airen returned the hug. He was on cloud nine right now. He did feel bad for Humphrey, even if the git. was the cause of all the drama. He would talk to him later. Hopefully, he'd get him to see that he should focus on others and not himself. But that was for later.

"You, Charlotte, did not cause any trouble. Humphrey could've reacted better. I'd love for you to be my girlfriend, but only when you're ready. I don't want to make you feel obligated, or for us to rush this. We have time," he said softly. He silently gazed at her hoping for her to get his meaning of his last sentence. He caressed her cheek softly.

He smiled as Charlotte reunited with a friend. It seems that tonight would end happily for most people here.

[Charlotte Smith]

Charlotte grinned, she had been accepted as Airen's girlfriend and that made all of the other problems vanish right then, for the rest of tonight she was going to enjoy his company and she was going to make sure that he had a great time too.

"That's wonderful then...so...it's all sorted then? Finally?" Charlotte smiled, she was glad that this had all been sorted but she did feel a little odd, she was only eleven "Well it's not exactly going to develop into anything serious for a while, so were just best friends with a bit added? Right?"

With that Charlotte linked her hand with Airen's and looked to one of the balconies, wondering if it would be best to go over there instead of dancing in front of Humphrey and hurting him again. That might be best.

She was shocked by the implied meaning behind Airen's statement.

"I know we do, but we can just see how this works out, cant we? Do you um, want to dance again, or go check out the new balconies?"

[Airen Auditoren]

Airen was glad that Charlotte was smiling again. He felt even happier that he had been the one to put it there. He was one lucky boy.

"As I said, only when you are ready," he repeated. He felt like things were going fast, not too fast, just fast. Maybe a slightly slower pace would suit them both. "Si (yes), we are. Longer hugs and occasional kisses on the cheek so far," he confirmed smiling.

He threaded their fingers together. It felt right to him. It also made him feel like he could take on the world and come out unscathed. He felt bad for Humphrey, and he wanted to try to be friends with his housemate. All he hoped for was that his classmate could see that he couldn't always get what he wanted.

Following her gaze, he saw the balconies. The romance down here was only enhanced up there.

"Yes, we can. We'll be here for each other always. No matter the state of our relation," he softly spoke.

"I think we could check out the balconies," he replied. "We can still hear the music, so we can dance up there, too," he added.

"Shall we?" he asked gesturing to the balconies.

[Charlotte Smith]

Charlotte was glad that they were both on the same page, no outbursts of undying love or masses of compliments just yet, for which, she was extremely grateful, Charlotte felt ashamed at drawing so much attention to herself and she looked down at the floor for a moment.

"Then that's fine by me, more than fine, wonderful in fact, I think that would be fore the best, if we stayed like this for a while."

Glancing at her friends around her Charlotte hugged Pyxis and Tabi, a large smile on her face, it was like a huge weight had been lifted from her shoulders.

"Were going out to the balconies, come with us if you would like, or if you'd like to return to your friends then please do so, thank you so much Pyxis for all you've done tonight, and thank you Tabi for helping, I'll repay you I promise."

With a smile Charlotte re-linked her hand with Airen's and looked towards the balcony, walking sedately towards it, the cool air hit her face and she sighed softly, it felt good to be away from the stuffiness of inside.

"Its beautiful out here, the sky is lovely, I just wish that tonight could have gone off without a hitch, I feel such a fool for causing such a distraction...I just hope that everyone manages to have a good time."

Airen nodded his head in agreement. He was quite mature for his age, but there were the few times he'd be a fun-loving, eleven year old boy. Now, he was a mix of both. Part of him wanted nothing more than to kiss Charlotte senseless, but his eleven year-old self held him back saying that he should wait until he was older. His older side consented, adding that both parties had to be ready.

"I'm sure they will. The night is still young, and it wasn't your fault," he replied. He heard the first notes of a song he liked. "Give Me Your Eyes" by Brandon Heath. He was surprised they had that song in there. He held his hand out to Charlotte.

"Shall we dance?" he questioned with a smile on his face.

Victoria was completely blown away. She had stepped out for a few minutes. Well...it was supposed to be a few minutes. She went look for the girls bathroom and got a little distracted by some of the portraits. When she came back there was shouting and crying. She saw Tess sitting over at a table, so she grabbed another pumpkin juice and walked over to sit down.

"What was all of that about?"

[Parker Emery]

When they were sitting at the table, Parker was about to reassure her that he really didn't mind because he knew she was just joking around, but Haley plopped down with them. "No problem at all, Haley." She asked how they were liking it and while the food and drinks were good he didn't really care about the rest of it, other then that he was with friends. He didn't like how uncomfortable his new suit was and didn't like how many people there were. He took another bite from the food on the small plate he;d brought back to the table.

When Humphrey got to the table, crying of all things, he let out a wuiet groan. Too many people. And Humphrey was such an..outgoing person, he could have counted for three more people. He lowered his head to his plate, as Haley and his exchange. Keeping his head down when Charlotte came over too. He looked up when Pxyis said she was going and rolled his eyes at how Humphrey was acting and looked back down when he heard arguing. He wished he could mute everything.

He glanced up when Haley sat back down. saying that she hated drama. Parker nodded in agreement and pushed his plate between them to offer her food, taking and eating another thing off it. He was trying his hardest to ignore the argument, sighing when Haley left again.

He looked up as a girl walked up which he'd not talked to before, if he remembered correctly, he was actually warned about her. Seeing her smile a little Parker smiled at her. "Hullo." He motioned to his plate. "Want some?" He figured it to be a safe enough way to greet her back. His eyes and head shot up though when he heard Prof. Cobalt start screaming. The man sort of set him at ill ease before, but when he saw him get violent, Parker could feel himself start to shake. Then he saw him...Parker wasn't quite sure what he just saw, but it made him feel sick and he just stared back at the table, groaning.

He stayed staring down at the table, his face a bit pale, when Haley sat back down, looking thoroughly ruffled. "What's everyone's problem? Why can't we just talk to our friends and eat some food without...all of this happening? So stupid..." Parker was not one to get into a terribly bad mood often. But he definitely felt it coming on slowly. He probably should have just not gone, he'd have found some other occasion to were his suit.

[Corinne Girard]

Corinne looked down at a Slytherin boy - who seemed rather abashed by the amount of students around him - when he said hello to her. He offered her some food, but she shook her head and smiled lightly. "I feel to sick to eat," she told him, looking at one of the seats next to the boy. "Mind eef I seet 'ere?" She asked, motioning to the chair as she sat down next to him.

"I am sorry," she murmured. "But, what ees your name?" Corinne asked him, rubbing the back of her neck in embarrassment. It was strange for her, being nice to people that she would've previously been cruel too. She didn't want to be mean anymore, didn't want to fight against the new, nicer person she had become.

Corinne felt defeated by this new person, and she let her shoulders sink as she played with the frilly part of her dress sleeve. She rather liked this dress, the green went nicely with her darker tone of skin. "I like your suit," Corinne commented, looking back to him. "Eet ees, different? Different ees good. We don't all 'ave to be ze same, fit into ze mold! Some of us can be different to our parents, you know? Oh, sorry I am rambling," Corinne blushed when she realized she was talking more to herself than him.

[Parker Emery]

Parker pulled his plate back as she sat. "I don't mind at all.." He was willing try to talk to anyone to get his mind off everything else going on around him. "Me name's Parker Emery. You are...?" He heard his friends mention her a few times but hadn't really cared enough to try to remember her name, and couldn't recall it now.

He watched as she seemed to sink in her chair a bit and was wondering what was bothering her. he may have been warned about her, but right now she didn't seem to bad. Thinking back on it, Tabi wasn't so bad either it seemed, and people warned him about her too.

He looked at her a bit curiously when she started talking about his suit. He looked down at himself, then at a few of the other guys around. Muggle suits were different then wizard dresswear he supposed. He looked back to her, giving a polite smile. "Well, I like what you're wearing. All th' girls here've really gone all out, I think."

[Corinne Girard]

Corinne smiled at his name. It most definitely was not a British name, for she had been living in Britain for almost 2 years now and never heard that name before. And with his accent, that was also not British. "I am Corinne Girard," she said in an ashamed tone which was the first time she had ever wished she was not 'Corinne Girard', but some other girl who could live a life without fear of being disowned if she denied her Maman's beliefs- like Salina had, and now Salina was not to come home.

This thought made Corinne frown, for she would miss her twin terribly. They may not have always gotten on, but they had still done lots of things together, for their interests were similar. And they'd always felt confident in confiding to one another- but now Corinne was to return home without her twin.

Corinne smiled when he complimented her dress. "Why thank you, Parker. You are not from around 'ere, are you? You're name and accent suggest zat. Where are you from?" She turned to face him in her chair, still fiddling with her dress. She felt a pain in her skull as the voices attempted to escape the box she had placed them in, in her mind of course, and she scrunched up her face in concentration as she pushed them back.

Ah, that's right, Corinne, though he caught the odd tone she said it in and sighed a little. "Well, nice t' meet you, Corinne." He watched as she frowned curling back into her thoughts. He looked back down to his plate in silence, taking a drink from his glass of pumpkin juice.

He looked back up at her, noticing her smiling again, and he smiled a little too. "Oh, erm, I'm from Ireland- it's an Irish name..." He breathed out, looking down, not noticing her scrunch her face. "I take it you're..French?"

Corinne nodded when he said that it was nice to meet her, but thought sourly in her mind that it probably wasn't. She remembered seeing him with Pxyis a lot, they seemed to be glued to each other, not un-like her twin and Leshia. She didn't mind, just felt jealous at how close they all were to each other. Corinne held back a sigh.

"Oui, I am from France," Corinne smiled at him. "Ireland? Zat sounds familiar," she hadn't gotten the hang of all of the English ways of saying the different countries, so she had to frown as she translated in her mind. She was getting tired of speaking English, it still hurt her head a bit to translate so much. She was better at translating English into French, so listening to someone was easier than forming a reply.

"Irlande!" She suddenly exclaimed, making the connection. "You are from Irlande- I mean Ireland! 'ow grand, I 'ave always wanted to visit ze land of potato's!" Corinne's tone turned joking as she said the last bit, and it was foreign to her. She had never joked, only taunted. "I am joking, I actually would like to visit Ireland, Maman 'as always showered eet een praise. She 'as been all over ze world!"

Tabi had wondered around a bit after talking to Charlotte, Pxyis was still not talking to her. She noticed that Parker was talking to Corrine, she hadn't seen her around for awhile so she decided to walk up to them.

"Hey Parker I see you have met Corrine." smiled Tabi

"Hey Corrine, where have you been, I have missed you. I was wondering if we could talk?"

Pxyis grinned as Airen and Char decided to go out with each other, and felt most happy with Char's choice. Airen would make her happy. With a nod of respect at Cobalt, Pxyis walked back over to parker, watching her feet as she walked. It was a habit of hers to look at the ground while she thought. She was thinking about Char and Air, and she dearly hoped Humphrey would leave them alone.

Pxyis looked up as she reached Parker, and was surprised to see him talking with a smile to Corinne and Tabi, who was smiling back. Corinne looked absolutely gorgeous, her dress was amazing and so was Tabi's. They looked at least 13- not 11 and it surprised Pxyis. She felt a strange pang of hurt within her and she suddenly twirled on her heel and walked over to Salina and Leshia.

"Hey Leshia, Salina, how are you both?" She asked, admiring their blue dresses. "Well don't you both just look- wow," She grinned, trying to ignore the feeling of betrayal when she had seen Parker, Corinne and Tabi talking. However, she hadn't wanted to cause a scene (having already experienced enough drama for a life time that night), so she had decided to talk to her other friends in an attempt to remain calm. Pxyis supposed she was so hurt because Parker, her best friend, was talking to Corinne and Tabi, girl's who had both been nasty to her.

Corinne looked up when Tabi greeted them, and she smiled at her. "'allo, Tabi. I 'ave missed you too," Corinne felt happy that at least one person- make that two, including Parker- didn't think she was a horrible human being. "Of course you may talk to me," Corinne was curious now, wondering what Tabi would have to say.

She heard the sound of heels, and turned her head to see Pxyis walking over to them. Pxyis looked up, and Corinne could see clearly the hurt and betrayal in her eyes. She realized that this must be a bad looking situation to Pxyis, two girls she didn't like talking to her best friend. "Oh dear, poor Pxyis." Corinne frowned.

[Parker Emery]

Parker took another drink from his cup, smiling a little as she struggled to translate in her head. He wondered just how hard it would be to be learning and trying to speak fluently in another language. He often heard his grandparents speak something else, but hardly ever seeing them he never questioned what it was.

He smiled a little more at her joke, which seemed a bit awkward for her to say, he assumed she wasn't too used to joking around. He dared to try to joke back a bit. "I'll have you know, we hardly ever eat potatoes at me house."

He looked back down to his plate and shrugged, his smile dropping a bit. "Well, I wouldn't call where I live very 'grand', just a regular place. This is the first time I've traveled outside of my town to be honest."

He looked up again as Tabi approached, giving her a smile, and catching Pxyis from the corner of his eye. He looked at her and smiled hoping they could finally just sit and relax, but she had turned right around and his smile faded a bit. But she went to go talk to some friends she'd not had the chance to talk to yet tonight so he sighed a little as he looked back down to his plate, taking another bite of food, glancing up when Corrine said 'poor Pxyis'. "Huh?"
