She slipped her last objects in the train she walked down towards the compartments. She saw Pxyis and Parker and she simply kept walking, there was no use even trying. She didn't want to deal with little snippets of childish comments or goofing around.

She found an empty compartment and she walked in immediately and closed the door. Sitting down, she placed a hand on her temple and rubbed letting out a tired sigh. It was so hard, so hard to deal with classes and children, yes she called them children. To her, no one any understood her, no longer did she have that innocent expression, where her eyes once glowed with innocence now showed her distrust towards humanity.

The war was indeed taking a toll on her, whether or not she noticed. She did miss her friends...Alice and Victoria. Victoria had taken her place nicely, at least in a way where she didn't feel so alone. A meow brought her out of her thoughts and she hand began to caress little Coeur's head.

Victoria was anxious about going home. She hadn't been compelled to write home, since she didn't know it was possible to do so before leaving for the year. After classes had started and she had saw how different her world was going to be now that she was a witch, she was worried to write home in case her parents and sister didn't fully understand or believe her.

She made her way down the train, searching for a compartment. She passed Pyxis and Parker, not bothering to intrude, and saw one filled with students. They seemed to be having a good time and she was happy for them. Yes, the battle had been hard on everyone, but they seemed to be getting by. She finally found the one that Tess had claimed.

Smiling she knocked on the door and asked, "Mind if I join you?" She was chorused with a meow from the hood of her robes. Her kitten, Kai, had taken nicely to the built in hood in her robes when they came to Hogwarts and loved the perfect little pouch.

Seeing Victoria a small, but true smile appeared.

"Of course" she said.

Tess was glad it was her and not some other student. She felt uncomfortable with interacting with others now for she felt fake when she did so.

But she felt Victoria understood for she was there for the attack, and she experienced almost as much as Tess had.

Her body relaxed and she heard her cat purr realizing this.

"Ready to head back?" she asked.

Victoria inwardly groaned. "Not really. They're all muggles. I'll go back to being invisible to most of my family. And we can't even do magic! I'll be bored stiff."

She felt bad for dumping all this on Tess, but it felt stupid to have lived through the battle just to go back to a place where you're seen as just any other 11 year old.

"How about you? Anything exciting waiting for you?" She noticed the cat Tess had. She smiled and took Kai out of her hood and sat him on the bench to let him meet the other cat.

She wish she could say that she understood, but she didn't. And she decided to try and admit that.

"Well...now that I'm at Hogwarts and my magic is more controllable, my house will be full of magic, just magic that I can't do" she said shrugging. "But...who says you have to be invisible? Why not tell them what it's like?"

Muggles were sometimes so oblivious when it came to magic, honestly sometimes magic was around them all the time. What they thought of as magic were simply card tricks, she'd never understand that.

"As for me...just family. Trying to calm my parents down, especially after they heard of the attack."

Victoria hadn't thought about how it would feel to have parents in the magical loop. She didn't know what her parents would do if they learned how potentially dangerous her new life could be.

"I don't know if I'm going to tell my parents about the attack. They may not let me come back."

Sure, the last part of the year wasn't fabulous, what with the battle and all. But she had really enjoyed the rest.

"I'd hate to have to go back to public school. Then it was ALL about who you knew and what you wore. Here you can at least become your own person, you know? And this world is so...well, magical!" She laughed at her stupid joke.

Humphrey stopped outside the compartment with Tess and Victoria, and after a moment's hesitation he stuck his head in. "Hey you guys! Umm, Tess, Victoria, you have somehow managed not to get angry at me when I was being...well, a jerk to be perfectly honest. I know I am not the best company, but do you mind if I join you? I was by myself, and I kept thinking about what happened. I think could use some good friends right now. What do you say?" he asked them.

She covered her mouth but let out a light laughter at her silly joke.

"Pun intended I take it?"

She wished that Victoria had it easier, that is having the liberty to show her magical side to all. Tess couldn't imagine having to pretend being something she wasn't. Magic ran through her blood for Merlin's sake, it seemed wrong.

"Well I suppose keep that attack a secret no?" she said winking.

She was surprised by the interruption, but let out a small smile seeing Humphrey. It seemed that with all the stress going on around them because of the attack, he had gone off the radar. She shook her head at his comment.

"I don't mind you joining us."

A friend. She was considered a friend, and she smiled softly. He was usually all over the place, but when a friend was needed she'd be there.

Victoria was happy to share a laugh. They had been rare as of late and it felt really good to relax. She was happy to have these moments before going back into the unknown that was the muggle world.

She was surprised to see Humphrey at the cabin door. He had really laid low after all the drama during the ball. She hoped that time alone had given him some much needed insight.

"Fine by me," she said. Even though he had acted really weird during the battle, she was willing to give a friend another chance.

Humphrey walked into the compartment; immediately, the sense of shame and depression because of what he did began to lift a little bit. Friendship, is truly a powerful thing, he realized. "Thanks girls, I really appreciate you giving me a chance to be friends despite the way I acted. Part of it was the stress of the battle, and the other part was just jealousy on my part I guess. If I ever start acting like that again, will one of you please slap some sense into me?" he asked them.

Her lips twitched at his comment and shrugged.

"I wouldn't mind doing that" she said smirking.

She didn't want any stress, and to her, it seemed pretty foolish to be so jealous. She could never feel that way about someone, so much that jealousy blinded her.

"Thanks, Tess. I know that you won't slap me unless I really need it. So, what are you two doing over the holidays? Anything interesting? Personally, I think I am going to be missing Hogwarts like crazy. Being with Muggles, it just won't be the same after I've been here, ya know what I mean?" Humphrey asked them. It was true, the bare fact was that life in Edinburgh wouldn't be the same. Granted, it had never been ideal, but now he suspected it wouldn't even feel like a temporary home. Hogwarts was his home now, and just like many students before him, it would always be his home.

"Victoria, you've been unusually quiet. Is anything wrong?" he asked her.

Victoria barely noticed Humphrey's question. She had been occupied with Kai, who had chosen now to be an attention whore. He had climbed up her pant leg to get onto her lap and refused to be ignored until she started petting him and giving him alot of love.

"Hmm? Oh no, I'm fine. Kai just wanted attention." She smiled. He was the one thing that was hers, that no one could take from her. The little tiger kitten acted almost like a human at times, and was a comforting in times when Victoria needed it.

"No exciting plans for the summer," she shrugged. "Actually, I don't know what my family could have planned. Haven't spoken to them since school started." She tried to play it off like she didn't care. In truth, she really wanted to not care, but she did.

Tess' expression softened at Victoria's comment, it was clear she missed her parents. And if Tess was honest she missed her parents as well.

"I didn't write letters, never had the chance to go to the Owlery so I never had the opportunity to hear from them either. I bet they're worried."

At Humphrey's question and Victoria's response she added.

"Spend some time at the beach, enjoying the warmth that is California, then probably travelling for a bit."

Victoria groaned. "I almost forgot about the beach! It's like it doesn't exist here." She thought of her family trips to the beach during the summers. It was a four hour drive from home, but it was always worth it. Her aunt had a little house a few blocks from the water front and she loved going there for a week.

"Where else do you think you'll go?" she asked Tess. "Maybe we can write and I'll live vicariously through you!" she laughed.

"Perhaps Paris, my mother wants to visit Beauxbatons and try to convince father that perhaps that is a good transfer school, but I have nothing to worry about, after all father always chooses at the end.

She laughed at her excitement and she thought of something that might lighten Victoria's spirit.

"You can! Or....hey, maybe you'd want to spend some time with me in California?" she asked. "I mean maybe you can spend a week at my home? My parents are leaving for a little excursion towards Hawaii and I'll be alone, would you care to come along?"

She thought that floo powder was an appropriate way of them communicating and travelling from one part of the country to another if the floo network was added to her home.

"That would be wonderful! I've never been to that side of the US before. And it would be great to eat some familiar food!" Victoria loved food. Maybe a little too much, but she had always done well at keeping in shape so it didn't show. Plus she had a high metabolism, so it was a win-win situation.

"Do you mind if I bring Kai? He'll get lonely otherwise."

The summer didn't seem so dismal now, with plans and a new friend..."Wait. How does one set up Floo Network in a muggle house?"

She nodded.

"Bring Kai if you'd like" she said smiling. "And as for the floo powder, we can find the nearest magical village around your home. I don't think that'll be hard"

She was really excited about spending vacation with her friend, and she hoped Victoria's parents approved because she would show her the magical and muggle world that was the West Coast. That and the fact that she'd never had a friend that stayed with her kind of made her feel like she was more normal, average and she liked that.

When Victoria had talked about her parents he could immediately tell that she was missing them. The same tone had been in his voice for a long time. "Vic, if you ever need somebody to talk to about missing your parents I am here. I know what it is like to not be in contact with them. My Aunt Julia and Uncle Billy, are just not a good replacement. They are too work-oriented. That is why I am glad to have made some good friends like you girls this year at Hogwarts." Humphrey said.

"Wow, well you two have your holidays all planned out. For mine, I have no clue what I am doing as of yet. Practicing Quidditch with the new broom I am going to get, getting the new course books and reading those, and working on my novel and my sketches are going to take up most of the holiday I suspect. You two are going to have to keep me up to date on your adventures in California. If you don't I will die of boredom in Scotland. You know, maybe I should go on a backpacking trip or hiking trip somewhere...I don't know. But, seriously, write me over the summer." he told them.

She nodded and smiled.

"I'll try to write" she replied to him.

She was excited over the fact that Victoria would be visiting her. Humphrey's need for them to write, made her smile, she supposed that's what friends wanted to happen, she'd never know though.

"Go on adventures, and then you can tell us" she said smiling

"Yay! I'll look forward to your letters. As for me going on adventures, I will do my best. But, Edinburgh has been pretty dull for me in the past. Maybe I can convince my aunt and uncle to let me go on a backpacking trip or something like that. What else could I do...oh, I got it, I can tell you all about the wedding I've been invited to. It is at Livadia Palace, and will be full of Durmstrang students and graduates most likely. That will definitely be an experience." Humphrey replied. He was looking forward to the wedding, and was very curious if he would recognize the person he had been writing to from the battle in the Great Hall.
