Lesson One - First Years Empty Lesson One - First Years

Post by Richard Romain Thu Feb 16, 2012 10:28 pm

Richard walked into the classroom for the second time since school had broken up and already he could feel a migrane begining. For some reason he'd thought teaching would be a good idea. How silly of him.

Waving his wand in a careless motion, matches flew across the room, three for each desk and three for each student. The first lesson was going to be easy. And if they couldn't manage that...?

Well if that happened he'd fail their sorry asses.

Tessa had walked into the classroom. She found that it was easier getting around to her classes. Now that she was used to where she was going. Sometimes she would forget and fall, but she wasn't going to let that bother.

She then manged to find her a seat. Tessa just sat there smiling, she felt like she could do anything.

Jaycie walked in quietly, hair hiding her face, and found a seat. She examined the matches on her desk and prodded them around around a bit with her wand. She noticed the Gryffindor girl - who was seemingly blind - was in a lot of her classes. She wondered if they'd ever get to talk to each other.

Xander had always been intrigued by transfiguration. Growing up in a magical family, he had seen many useful ways to transfigure things.

The teacher didn't seem like he was in a very cheerful mood. Good. Neither was he. Though seeing the matches did perk him up just a bit. Who didn't like matches?

He took his seat near the back, nodding to Jay as he passed her. She was a shy little thing, but nice.

Walking in, he noticed that it was barely filling up. Walking towards the desk, he sat beside Xander. He appreciated that there was someone who was there and he knew already. He might seem like a nonchalant guy, but honestly he was simply unsure about people. He distrusted many.

"Checking out the scenery" Luke murmured to Xander amused.

Jaycie smiled at Xander as he passed her. She was still pretty distracted at the moment, and was sort of half-forming a letter home, one to her mother and the other to her sister- who had just learnt how to read, thanks to the help of Jay over the holidays. Jaycie was so proud of herself, and of Jenna, who certainly was a quick learner.

She'd often heard her mum talk about Hogwarts, and it seemed Transfiguration was one of her favourites in her time. Her mother sure did a lot of magic at home... the garden was so big and it took up a lot of her time, but both children liked the majestic place, so there were no regrets. Jaycie realised she was still smiling as she thought about her family, but didn't stop, because her family at the moment was her everything.

Tessa was sitting by herself, she was used to it somewhat. She knew that she reallly never fit it, but she did her best. Quietly she took out her book and opened it up. It was made just so that she could read it. Other students would look at it and see nothing but bumps, but to her they were words.

Alcyone walked into the class and looked around. She wasn't feeling anti-social today, so she had decided that she would take a seat next to someone. Her eyes landed on a Gryffindor, who appeared to be blind. It made her eyes widen slightly and she went over to the girl and sat down.

"Hello, im Alcyone Malfoy," she introduced herself, sympathy in her eyes. She had always held a soft spot for those less fortunate then her, and though she suffered greatly at home she could not imagine living without seeing.

Tessa could feel that someone sat next to her. And just so that she didn't seem to be rude, she decided to talk to this girl.

" Hello. I am Tessa Grey."

She was smiling, Tessa could tell what she was thinking. How she couldn't live without sight.

Xander chuckled a little. Luke was ever the surprise. He honestly didn't know much about him. Just that they were related. But he felt comfortable with him in a way that he didn't with most people their age.

"Scenery, eh? See anything you like?" He indicated the rest of the class, all girls.

He shared a smirk in return and chuckled.

"It's a refreshing scenery, but I don't know if I want to pick out any flowers for myself just yet" he joked in return.

Honestly it was great to have someone to be there and understand him, well... at least tolerate him. He liked staring at girls like the next guy, but it was better to joke around and not have anything serious. Though, a certain brunette popped into his mind for a second before disappearing once more. He simply shook his head and chuckled.

Lesson One - First Years Empty Re: Lesson One - First Years

Richard looked over at his new students coldly before breaking out into a smile, having frightened them enough for this lesson,

"Why hello class!" he greeted them as a whole, even though only a few students caught his eye. A Gryffindor, a hufflepuff and some slytherin. No one could ever acuse him of being biased, "This is Transfiguration. If you already know this... well done, you can read the label on the door."

He smiled a bit more,

"On the desks, in front of each of you, you will find three matches." he shrugged, "Quite simple really. You're going to turn them into matches. So jab your wand firmly at them and say 'Reveeto' and visualise the match changing to metal."

Tessa then spread her matches, to where she could feel them. She really wasn't sure how she was going to do in this class, but she told herself that she would try her best.

She then had her wand out and pointed at the matches. " Reveeto"

Now was the hard part, she could tell if she got it right.

Jaycie spread out the matches and one by one jabbed at them with her wand, saying "Reveeto" in her mind. She figured it would be better to practice the different areas of the spell individually before combining them. When she figured she had the spell and the movement down-pat, she combined them. "Reveeto," she said, pointing her wand at the first match.

The match went sort of spiky and the tip shone grey, like metal, but all in all it wasn't a complete transfiguration. Concentrating harder, she moved onto the second one. She did the same, this time trying to make what she said more audible. "Reveeto!"

The match didn't completely transform into a needle... but it was close. It didn't sharpen this time, but it did turn into a metal match.

One more go. "Reveeto!" She said, making everything clear and pronounced about the spell. There was a tiny puff and where there was once a wooden match lay a shining silver needle, complete with thread loop and spiked tip. Jaycie grinned. Success!

He looked at the matches once more and sighed. He had to visualize this didn't he? He picked up his matches and looked over at Xander.

"Don't mess up" he whispered.

Closing his eyes, he began to view the metal. He was good with meditation, often times doing it with her mother because she loved it more than anything. Removing those thoughts, he began to imagine metal clearly.

"Reveeto" he murmured.

Slowly but surely, the matches began to move slightly and they each morphed into metal. It was not fully solid, more like mercury, so he visualized it clearer, trying to make it more solid and he smiled brightly.

"Don't mess up." Xander grinned. The more he got to know Luke the more he liked the little git. Guess we are related.

He turned his attention to the matches in front of him. He wondered for a second if burning them first would change how the spell reacted. The unburnt wood verses the burnt wood. Trying to concentrate he "jabbed" his wand at the matches saying "Reveeto."

The air around the matches seemed to shimmer, but nothing happened. He stared at them intently, willing them to change, and tried again. After the third try they seemed to turn to metal, if only a very crude, dull one. Overall, he wasn't happy with it.

Luke chuckled as he saw Xander messing up. Still he didn't want him to lose any points, but he wanted to help him and make him pass.

"Look just close your eyes envision it, and then do the spell" he murmured.

He hoped that it would work, after all it worked for him. He lifted one of his thin metal and waved it around in light teasing.

Tessa then decided to run her fingers over it. She knew that the Professor said something about mental. And she knew that if it felt like it, then she must have gotten it right.

She then felt the three matches that were metal. Tessa was proud of herself, but she knew that she shouldn't let this get to her head.

Xander snorted at the idea of this actually working for him. Potions was what he loved. It was about being exacting in measurements. Perfectly precise. None of this "imagine it" crap.

He sighed and closed his eyes. Worth a try. He tried clearing his thoughts first, a hard thing to do when a girl kept haunting them. He shook his head. This was not the time.

Another deep breath and his mind was clear, picturing perfectly shined pieces of metal. When he opened his eyes, the pieces in front of him matched perfectly.

He grinned and looked at Luke. "Thanks, man. I owe you one."

Luke shrugged but let out a half smile. He mentally thanked his mother, rest her soul, had taught him everything he knew. He hadn't managed to read his books yet, but he knew a lot from his mother.

"And don't forget it" he replied smirking back.

He looked towards the Professor and waited for the instructions curiously.
