Lounging Around

Kasey was laid back on the couch, his legs stretched over all the cushions, a book held up to his face. He was enjoying the quiet, save the relaxing crackle in the fireplace. He found the couch to be extremely comfortable, and he was starting to doze off. He was up late the previous night, reading pretty late. He was nearly done with his book and just could not put it down.

Except for the fact that in his dozing off he'd set it on his face, snoring lightly into the pages, one hand hanging off the couch, the other still on the book.

Keiba skipped the last step out of the Girl's Dorm and immediately spotted a new first year, dozing on the couch. He had curly red hair and a freckled appearance, and seeing him drifting off to sleep with a book over his face automatically hit the 'aww!' factor in Keiba's brain. She grinned, remembering the numerous times she'd done that, not just as a child, but very recently too. Old habits die hard! she decided sheepishly.

"Hey, kid!" she poked the redhead. "What's your name?" Keiba waited for him to wake up and sat cross-legged on the armchair beside him. She had no idea why she'd called him kid, even though he was merely a year younger than she, he had the aura of a younger boy. In other words, he was an adorable little thing that could easily have his hair tousled!

"Hey, kid!" A girl's voice called out as he was poked. The quiet had now been disturbed. He sat bolt right, his book falling to the floor. He groaed, and rubbed his eyes with his hands, yawning and lowering his hands before looking at the girl sat near him on another chair. "What was that for!"

He was feeling a little bit annoyed, having his little nap disturbed. Not in the most pleasant way either. Though, admittedly he was feeling a bit grumpy, lacking a bit on sleep.

Keiba was startled by the boy's reaction to her wake-up call. "Jeez, calm down," she said, picking up his book and handing it to him. "I said, what's your name?"

Keiba looked him over and saw the bags under his eyes for the first time. "Maybe you shouldn't read so late. You look really tired. Trust me, I know from experience." She smiled kindly at him. "I'm Keiba, by the way. I'm in second year."

Kasey raised an eyebrow at her. "Well it's not very nice to wake up to someone yelling and poking at you."

His face lightened a bit as she handed him his book and gave him the advice about reading. He looked to his book and shrugged. "I know. I'm near the end though, you know? Want to get it done, especially before we're loaded with work from classes. I don't want to be distracted."

He looked up from his book and to her as she smiled at him. He held out his hand to her to shake., he'd always been taught it to be polite. "Keiba? Well, I'm Kasey."

Keiba rolled her eyes. "I wasn't even yelling," she muttered in protest.

She grinned at him. She knew perfectly well what it was like. "I do know, but it just takes too much out of you and you don't enjoy it as much if you rush it! Take your time, it's still gonna be there tomorrow," she smiled.

Keiba shook his hand firmly. "Nice to meet you, Kasey. You liking Ravenclaw so far?"

Kasey looked down at his book, running his other hand over the cover. He then looked at her, smiling a bit. "I suppose you're right. I have been a bit too eager..."

"Nice to meet you too." After shaking her hand, he lowered it to his book again, just resting it on his lap. "Well, I suppose so. I don't see any reason why I wouldn't." he glanced around the common room. "It's especially very comfortable here."

Bel had been looking around the castle, exploring the different places that it had to offer. She hoped that she wouldn't get lost; perhaps it would just take a little bit before she would get used to everything and where everything was.

Once answering a question, she stepped into the cozy looking common room. She glanced around to some of the different people, smiling a little to herself, before going to sit herself down on one of the comfortable looking chairs.

As Kasey was glancing around, he saw another girl walk in. He saw her smile and walk over, taking a seat on the other chair beside the couch he was sitting on and across from the one Keiba was in. Kasey smiled to her as she sat, turning to face both her and Keiba.

"Hello there." He ran his fingers over the spine of his book in his hands, relaxing back against the back of the couch. "Welcome to the common room."

Bel gave another smile when she heard what he had said. She looked around a few more times before she moved her eyes to look back and meet his. "Hi." she replied back, shifting the slightest bit so that she could face the others more as well. "Thank you. It's wonderful." she spoke smoothly, still sounding excited even to herself.

He smiled back, she sounded excited, she must have been muggleborn. He pulled his feet up onto the couch more comfortably, looking her over. She a very kind and sweet air about her.

"You seem really excited. Not used to this sort of thing are you?"

Bel lightly bit her lower lip, flushing a little from his words. Was it really that obvious? "I am excited! Everything here..is just amazing and extraordinary!"

She shook her head slightly. "It's all new. Adventure's everywhere." she continued, smiling shyly.

Kasey smiled, "Yeah, it really is, I'm sure even for people surrounded by this sort of stuff all the time." He looked around the common room a bit. He was sure no place could compare.

"Oh, rude of me." he laughed a bit, then held out his hand to her. "My name's Kasey. And you are...?"

Bel nodded her head a few times. "Something that you don't get used to." she was sure that everything would always amaze her. Never cease to.

She flushed slightly, realizing that she hadn't introduced herself either. She leaned over, letting her hand take his. "I'm Bel. It's nice to meet you." she smiled warmly again, happy to have met someone.

He shook her hand gently. "Nice to meet you to, Bel." he then leaned back on the couch again, setting his book beside him.

"You know, I'm sure that once were all seventh years, maybe even before then, we'll hardly think anything of this place. Act as if it were just some normal place. Pretty crazy to imagine, huh?"

Bel settled more on her chair, looking over to him. She listened as he spoke. She frowned a little at his words, yet she realized that it was true. She didn't want it to be. Yet she realized that it would happen.

"You're right. I think that this place will always hold a special place in my heart though." she replied softly.

"Yeah, I think so too. I'm sure a lot of great memories will be made here." He nodded and then yawned a bit, tired. While there wasn't much he could do as a first year, he was excited for the years to come.

"Hmm, so, what classes are you going to be taking? So I know who to save a seat for if you want." he offered, trying to be friendly.

"There most likely will." Bel agreed. "The places, the people. Even the spells and such." she sighed happily, thinking about it. Everything would only get better over time.

She smiled, thinking of how considerate that was of him. "That's very nice of you. It'll be great to know someone." she thought about it. "Hm..Defense Against the Dark Arts, Charms, Care of Magical Creatures, and Transfiguration. And you?" she wondered what he was taking.

He smiled back. "Yeah, we can unite against all the other houses, and make sure to snatch that house cup!" He chuckled a bit.

He brightened up a bit. "Oh, we have some of the same classes then! I'm in Potions, History, Muggle Studies, Charms, Defense, and Transfiguration."

"I hope so. It'd be wonderful to win! Especially if we could help some way." She continued, smiling more and more from the thought of winning the House Cup.

Her eyes brightened up as she listened to him. "That's great! It'll be so much better now, knowing someone in class." She was grateful she had been able to meet him.

"Agreed, class is a lot more fun when you can bounce ideas off of each other and can get a discussion going." It would certainly be a lot more pleasant than trying to have a discussion with a stubborn Gryffindor, he thought.

"And think if we studied together," he smiled, "We'd blow the rest of class away and win the cup for sure."

She nodded her head more. "We'd be unstoppable!" she quietly laughed, all too happy with the thought of it. This year would really be good, she knew it.

Kasey smiled and looked down at his book. "Hey, well, I'm going to stop by the Library to check out some new books. Maybe I'll see you there later after you get more acquainted with with common room."

Kasey pushed himself up, holding the book in his hand. "If I don't, then I guess I'll see you in classes!"

Keiba listened to Bel and Kasey talk with a smile. It was good to see some loyal first years springing up! With their attitude it was a sure fire way to win. She just knew it.

Waving to Kasey as he left, Keiba turned to Bel. "Sorry I didn't introduce myself before, I zoned out a bit. Anyway, I'm Keiba. I'm in my second year. It's nice to meet you Bel," she said, grinning and putting her hand out. "I think you're gonna still be in awe of Hogwarts to the day you die, I still am."
