Determined (Open)

Eva was in the library, for once she was not reading for fun, nor for homework. Eva was trying to find something to help cure her. She knew that she didn't have much time. Eva had cancer and it was slowly killing her. so here she was in the Library, surrounded by books, on everything that could be help full. She had books on herbs, and books on healing. She was going to try and beat this even if she couldn't.

She didn't know if she wanted to make friends. She knew that she would most likely be dead before third year. She was going to be strong never the less. She wondered if anyone would come and talk to her, she was a person after all.

Leshia decided that there was a few books that she needed to catch up on the week of work she had missed. She still did not quite understand why she was knock out for a week.

Walking over to the one section she new that one of the books that she needed was going to be she headed over there. Walking over to the section she noticed this girl sitting at a table overflowing with books.

Leshia walked up to the table and smiled at the girl. "Here I thought I was the only girl that took over a table while I was reading books."

Looking at some of the books she looked up at the girl.

"Hi, I am Leshia Prewett."

Eva smiled at the girl. "Hey Leshia, I'm Eva, Why don't you sit." she said, moving a stack of parchment off the chair next to her.. Leshia had been the first person to talk to her, other than the teachers. She looked in the book of herbs, nothing about cancer. She was doomed. She vaguely wondered if anyone would care when she died.

Eva looked over at the older girl, she seemed nice enough. She really hated her life right now. There was a huge war, her room mate had been tortured, and she was still dying. "So how are you Leshia?"

Looking at this girl that had just invited her to sit down, Leshia happily sat down.

"Well it is nice to meet you Eva." Leshia smiled at the girl

"I am going a lot better than I was a few days ago, but life goes on." Leshia said as she started looking through some of the books on the table.

"So what are you looking for in here, maybe I can help you? You know what they say two eyes are better than one."

Eva was glad the girl had sat down. "It was nice to meet you as well." She said smiling. She frowned, at the reminder that Leshia was in the hospital wing a few days ago. She knew Leshia couldn't figure out what she was looking for by looking at the books, she herself was only searching.

She sighed, and lied to Leshia, "I want to be a healer, so I'm just looking." She lied through her teeth. If she told the truth she would have said , 'well I'm looking for a cure to cancer.' Eva was not the type of girl to trust people right away with her darkest secrets. She could beat this.

Leshia thought about what she said. "Being a healer would be a great job, you can help people in many way." Leshia smiled.

"Well if you decide you need some help just let me know, I am a really good listener and secret keeper." Leshia just had to put it out there. Leshia was always trying to help people.

"So what do you like to do when you don't have yourself buried in a pile of books?"

Eva smiled at Leshia and wisper rather quickly, "I'm really trying to find a cure for cancer." She didn't say that she had it, but she did want to tell her what she was really doing here.

She smiled looked at Leshia, "Well anything I feel like at the time." she siad going back in to her happy state.

Leshia was listening to Eva talking about finding a cure for cancer and that just amazed her.

"I believe that is the best thing in the world to want to heal. There has to be some way as witches we could come with a potion or answer." Maybe Leshia could help with that.

Leshia leaned over the table to whisper to Eva. "I had a muggle friend who's mother died of breast cancer. No one knows I have muggle friends."

Leshia knew that no one knew her secret but she wanted to help.

Leshia had to laugh at Eva comment about doing anything that she felt like doing.

"That kind of sounds like me, pretty spontaneous."

Eva smiled up at Leshia and tugged on her hair, she noticed that quite a few strands came out. Great she thought I'm losing my hair. She was a very happy person, but she was fond of her hair.

She bravle asked "Can we do it in a year?" She remembered her last vist with her doctor, they said she had about a year, maybe more left to live. She wanted longer.

She smiled again and pushed her hair out of her eyes, noteing that more came out but hoping Leshia didn't. "I am a little random. But life is short you have to live it to the fullest." she told her, her life was even shorter.

Leshia looked at Eva and noticed some of her hair had falling out when she tugged on it. Leshia had a feeling but knew that this girl would not say anything to her unless she knew she could trust Leshia.

"A year is cutting in very close, it takes time to come up with the plan and then all of the testing. My father is a Potions Master so I know things are not easy." Leshia had a feeling this was not what Eva wanted to hear.

"Life is a dream and you have to learn to live it for everything that it is worth."

Eva sighed she had wanted to hear that they could do it. She would find a way, even if it was the last thing she did. It might be she thought.

She looked at Leshia and she knew that if she wanted her help, she would have to tell her. She took a deep breath to calm herself. She put a smile back on her face, she was now feeling sick, and pulled a potions book towards her.

"Leshia could you please help me. I need to do this, it's my only hope." she told her, and muttered under her breath "Stupid cancer taking away my time"

Leshia was excited to have something to do with her time besides school work. She was slowly getting to know Kasey and she loved it but she wanted a project.

"Of course I will help you, there is lots we need to do first." Leshia got up from her side of the table and went to sit next to Eva.

"First we need to localize what type of cancer we want to work on." Leshia grabbed a couple of books.

Leshia at first thought she heard wrong so she had to ask. She placed an arm around Eva and leaned in closer so no one would hear them.

"Are you telling me you have cancer?"

Eva Pulled at her hair, thinking if she should tell her. She pulled out more of her hair and reached into her bag. She pulled out her scarf, and tied around her head. She looked at Leshia and whispered quietly, "I have leukemia." and turned back to the books. She was ashamed. She played with the end of gold scarf and waited for her to respond.

Not meaning to interrupt Morgan walked over to the girls who had a sizable stack of books at their table. "Hello," she said smiling. "My name's Morgan, I'm your new librarian is there anything I can help you with?" as soon as she asked the question she mentally kicked herself, one of the girls looked desperately glum, she shouldn't have bothered them.

Eva shook her head at the librarian. She adopted her usual happy manner. She was a very happy person. She looked at her books once more and tried to get lost in them. She couldn't believe she had spilled her biggest secret. She was going to die. She had a little more than a year.

"Leshia Please Say something." She begged. Not being able to bear the silence.

Leshia looked up and noticed the new librarian "No thank you Morgan, I think we can get it from here." Leshia looked up and hoped the she would go on her way so they can continue.

"Sorry, i was having some thoughts in my head. I spaced off. My sister was having some problems and she was trying to contact me." That was the only thing about her connection to her sister that drove her nuts.

Leshia got up and moved around the table so she was sitting right next to Eva in case the librarian never left.

Whispering in her ear, "Leukemia, I am really sorry, but I will help you and see what we can do. We are witches we can do anything we put are minds too. That will help a little better with ideas. More localized that way."

Eva shrugged. she had made peace with it. "It's fine I'm ok with it. But I'm not going out without a fight." she said in her usual happy tone.

"Anyway enough of the sadness. I don't like it lets talk about something else. Like rainbows or puppies." She said trying to change the subject.

"I love puppies. They are so cute I can't have one though my mum is allergic. It's sad but I'd rather my mum be health than have a dog. what about you do you have a dog." She asked in a rush.

Leshia had to laugh at Eva she had never seen some one have so much life in them, while they are on the verge of dying. Leshia just hoped that Eva knew that she would be her friend no matter what.

Leshia smiled at Eva, "I will be glad to talk about anything you want to talk about."

Leshia was thinking about animals and she could not recall if they ever had a dog. "I don't recall ever having a dog, we are more of a cat family. My familiar is a white cat named snow."
