Rushing from the Classroom (Haley and Parker) Empty Rushing from the Classroom (Haley and Parker)

Parker swung the doors of the DADA classroom open, slinging his bag over his shoulder as he turned down the corridor. His palms were .sweaty and his head was swimming. His turn with the boggart...wasn't what he expected at all. It was a lake first, and then a grindylow, both which he expected. He expected it stay a grindylow, but then it turned again.

Why?? He didn't even know what it was! Parker was confused, panicked, and frustrated as he heard the door close a second time behind him and he hadn't bothered to look back. How on Earth could his greatest fear be something he didn't recognize. Yes, whatever it was was terrifying, but he'd never seen anything like it though. He didn't get how that worked. Though the sound it made did sound eerily familiar to him, and he had no clue why. Living in a muggle area he'd not even be exposed to such things, so it made no sense at all.

Parker groaned, his bag slipped off his shoulder and onto the ground, everything spilling out. He took a deep breath, just standing there a moment, trying to compose himself. Why was he so on edge and frayed?

Haley rushed out, still feeling the adrenaline of fright after having seen Swandeth, but figured it just didn't matter at the moment. The door closed behind her, and she saw Parker walking quickly down the hall. She started walking after him, and then stopped. Did he want her to follow him? She frowned. Then he stopped, and she wondered if he'd heard her. But he just stood still as his bag fell to the floor and the books and ink fell out.

That did it. Haley rushed over to him with worry creeping up her spine. "Parker," she said, taking his hand. She hoped she wouldn't scare him with the sudden sound, and gave him a weak smile. "That was terrible," she said slowly. She really hated banshee's. They were so horrible. "Are you all right?" she asked him softly, squeezing his hand slightly.

He closed his eyes for a few seconds in frustration. He was lucky none of his ink vials had cracked open. Rewriting all his notes and assignments was one thing he didn't have in him at the moment.

Lost in his confused thoughts, he hadn't heard Haley walk up to him. He was about to kneel down to pick up his stuff when she grabbed his hand. He startled and turned to her, his eyes wide and panic stricken. He was tense and had clenched her hand, but relaxed a moment after and cleared his throat, his voice coming out too weak. "I-I'm sorry. I didn't hear you..." He looked back down to the ground at his spread out papers.

"I...don't know." His eyebrows furrowed, he looked at her. "What was that thing?" It probably sounded mad that he hadn't known what it was that was apparently his greatest fear. How something like that could manifest when he didn't think he'd ever seen it before was beyond him. he was just so confused.

Haley shook her head quickly. "No, no, don't worry about it," she said softly.

When Parker had clenched her hand, it hadn't really hurt. She and one of her friends usually always did that to each other to see who felt the pain worse than the other. Haley actually had a very soft bonestructure in her hand because of it, and it took a lot to actually cause her hand pain. She frowned when he asked her what it was. Didn't he know? But how could he fear something he didn't know?

"I-it was a banshee," Haley said, slightly shocked and hesitant, "You didn't know? Not to sound offensive, not everyone knows what a banshee looks like, but how can you fear something you don't know what is?" she asked, more rethorical than actually asking him. Then she shook her head. "I'm sorry, a banshee is a kind of ... a very dark creature. As you saw, it opens its mouth to scream a supersonic scream that will kill anyone who hears it, kind of like a fully grown mandrake," she explained quickly, a bit concerned for Parker, hoping he was all right.

She looked down at his books. "Here," she said, slipping her hand out of his and crouching down, "Let me help you with that."

He saw her frown at his question and felt his heart sink. It was weird, he knew it! Her next confused sounding questions only confirmed how not-right the whole situation was. How was it possible for the boggart to turn into something he'd not known of? What did it mean? There had to be some sort of reason, and Parker was going to find out.

But the panicked and overwhelming confusion he was still feeling erupted in a small, dry sobbing sound. He snapped at her slightly "I don't know! I don't understand any of this!" He immeadiately felt bad afterwards, she was just trying to help and getting upset at her wouldn't help anything. He let out a breath, taking in what she said. The sound was a bit familiar, but he felt the same thing back in the Herbology lesson with the mandrakes. He felt like he'd heard it even before then.

When she let go of his hand, he knelt down with her, his hands still feeling a bit sweaty and clammy. He held open his bag and sniffed. He had gone silent and was thinking, trying to rationalize and calm himself down. Why hadn't it just stayed a Grindylow? It would have kept everything so simple. He didn't need this. "Why a Banshee....?" He whispered quietly, more to himself then her.

Haley felt a bit shocked when Parker snapped at her. She knew he'd be confused, but not to such an extent. Then she sighed. She really needed to learn that people felt different than she did. This was Parker's fright. Of course it would be terribly confusing and frustrating for him to not know what it was about. She gave a small smile to him.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to confuse you more. Maybe you've seen a horror movie where a blackhaired woman opened her mouth like that? I don't know, I've never seen a horror movie in my life. My mother always kept me from doing so, saying I had too much of an imagination. Sorry, I'm rambling," she then said and sighed.

She gathered some of the books and thought about it all. She just didn't understand. It just wasn't possible. Was it?

"I honestly don't want to frustrate you anymore, but I can't imagine you fearing something you've never seen before. Do you think there's a possibility that you might have seen a banshee before?" Haley asked cautiously, seriously not wanting to make him snap at her again.

"I'm sorry- I didn't mean..."Parker let out a pained sigh and shook his head, lowering it as he stared at his feet. "No...I-I don't watch them-" he appreciated her concern and that she was trying. When knelt beside her he put the last of his notes in his bag, and then went to take his books, standing up.

He eyes were still drawn downward, the panic seemed to have left and instead an empty feeling in his gut was there. He shook his head again. "I don't...It would be impossible. I live in a muggle neighborhood...I- ...well, the sound, the scream sounded familiar...it sounded familiar back when we worked with the mandrakes. I don't know why though..."

He swallowed, and his throat felt very dry, and looked at her with furrowed eyebrows. "What do Banshee's do?, what could it mean...?"

Haley shook her head. "No, no, it's okay, Parker, don't worry," she said with a soft smile that fell when he said he didn't watch horror movies. She frowned. He hadn't seen a Banshee either. But one never knew where the Banshee's would walk. Muggle-streets and wizard-streets meant next to nothing to them, but still, it was highly unlikely that Parker should've seen one, especially when he didn't even remember it. One didn't forget Banshee's.

She frowned. "Well, they do sound like mandrakes, they're effect is the same. The cry of a Banshee will kill you, but I don't know much more about them. Honestly Parker, I'm a bit out of my depth. Maybe you should talk to professor Henley? I mean, she's doomed to know more about them, don't you think?" she asked, giving him the last book and raising up as well.

She could see that Parker had calmed down and that the fright had let him go, but he looked rather upset about it, not knowing more. She would've been too.

Parker rubbed the back of his neck and sighed. Then nodded at her suggestion for him to talk to professor Henley, "Good idea...maybe after next lesson though...I-I need to look for some stuff on my own." He let out a breath, looking at the book at he took it from her, keeping his eyes down.

He looked defeated and tired more then anything, the initial panic forming into something else he couldn't quite name. He let out a deep sigh, adjusting his bag on his shoulder. "I'll....I guess I'll talk to you later. I need to go...I'm sorry..." He breathed out, trailing off.

So, Banshees were connected with death? As he looked at her, a sad, confused look in his eyes, he turned away to walk. Maybe the banshee was some way to manifest the not very solid fear into something real? Was death his greatest fear?

Haley nodded, understanding that he wanted to figure out more of them. She could tell how confused and sad he was, but she didn't point it out, afraid that he'd be embarrassed. After all, Parker really didn't have the strongest confidence. She then blinked when Parker started walking away. She bit her lip. She didn't know if he truly wanted to be alone or not, but she knew that she had to make sure that he understood that she was there for him if there was anything he needed.

So, she ran up to him and stopped him, giving him a big hug. "If you don't want me to come with you, I won't. But if you want me to, and you just don't want to say it, just know that I'm only a call away," she said, feeling a lump in her throat.

She couldn't stand the thought of her friends being in some kind of pain, and she knew that Haley would do some research on Banshee's herself so she'd know how to kill one should they ever get in her friend's way. She then released Parker from her hug and gave him a white smile.

"I'll see you around," she said in a slightly happy tone, though she was pretty sure Parker understood that it was fake-happy.

She didn't move though. She just watched what decision he'd make.

Parker took in a breath as Haley stopped him, wrapping her arms around him. He didn't pull away or anything, but stood there and closed his eyes a moment. He wasn't sure what he wanted to do. Talking with her helped, but he didn't want to be any more rude to her. He felt terrible for snapping at her and then shoving her away. He was a terrible friend.

He turned and looked at her as she let go, his pained expression fading a bit with her bright smiled. "Th-thanks..." he still didn't know what to say, what to do, he didn't want to do any more wrong, which he felt was all he ever did.

He just frowned though when she said she'd see him around and he opened his mouth. After a brief moment he managed to choke out. "Can you come with me?" he then looked down. Now he wasn't even sure where he wanted to go. The library? Some place to just sit and relax? Inside or out? He then figured he just needed to calm down. As simple as that.

He hardly waited before he took her by the wrist and started walking.

Haley gave a small nod to Parker as he thanked her. "Anytime," she said honestly.

She then looked at him struggling with what he wanted to do. Then he asked her to come with him. Haley had to force a smile away. She felt intenstly happy at that moment, truthfully. She felt like she was a good friend, and it made her happy. She felt needed, and not just a waste of space.

When Parker grabbed her wrist and started walking, Haley gave a low yelp of surprise, but felt a smile form on her lips. She couldn't keep it back.

"Of course I will, Parker," she said, following him to wherever.

He took a deep breath, looking around and listening to their echoing footsteps as they walked. He walked down the steps not even sure of where he was walking. He just wanted to walk, and holding onto her wrist helped to comfort him.

They walked by an open courtyard area which was clear of people. He walked down the step and to a bench going to sit down with her. He let go of her wrist as they sat, resting his hands on his knees and lowering his head slightly.

He didn't really feel like talking, so he just sat there.
