Snacking and Drawing (Eric and Tess)

Eric was in the kitchen, he liked it here. He was eating a scone and drinking tea. He really didn't get why Brits always drank tea. For him he needed tonnes of sugar. He really missed home. He missed swimming in the lakes in the summer. He missed the hot summers and cold winters. He missed walking in the streets. What he missed more than everything else was his friends.

Eric was sketching his old house. He had most of the basics right. But it didn't seem right. He looked at it in every angle he could see. Maybe it was the yard. He tried drawing the tree that he used to play under. He looked at the affect and smiled seeing that it had done the trick. He smiled and flipped over the page. He started to draw the kitchen before him when he saw the door open.

Tess was humming softly and she entered the kitchens. She knew the kitchens like the back of her hand and hummed softly as she saw that there were strawberry tarts. She knew that the elf Tinky had made them for her, for during exams she'd be given that treat.

Picking up a warm one, she was oblivious to the person on the other side of the kitchen. She bit into it and hummed in happiness, if she had known someone was there she wouldn't have let her guard down so much. Tinky had been brought to work at Hogwarts by her father who volunteered her to take care of Tess, and she definitely didn't mind if it meant that she got these more often.

Eric saw a Slytherin second year come in. She didn't seem to see him. He walked over to her. Her back was turned toward him. She was eating a strawberry tart. He might have to try one later.

"Hi." She said once he reached her. She seemed like the kind of girl he could be friends with. He didn't have much trouble making friends back home. It might be different her though he reminded himself. He was still new to this country. He had yet to make friends. He didn't mind though. He was happy.

"I'm Eric." She said holding out his hand.

Hearing someone speak behind her she immediately turned around and was wide-eyed. She licked the strawberry off her lips and gave him a small reserved smile. Usually there weren't any wizards around here, in fact it was just her and sometimes she saw Lolly but it was usually the elves.

Swallowing the small piece of tart, she took his hand with her clean hand, that hadn't touched the tart and replied. She noticed his accent and her eyes brightened a bit, it seemed he wasn't English. Sounded a bit like an American, but a twang was different. Being American herself, she was intrigued.

"Pleasure to meet you, I'm Tess" she said smiling.

Eric smiled at her accent. She was american, judging bye her accent. He wan't the only one not born in England. She wasn't from the southern states. She was most likely from the northern or central central states.

"Nice to meet you Tess, so where are you from?" She asked bluntly. "I'm from Winnipeg, that's in Canada, if you didn't know." he said. He really wanted to meet a few new people.

He looked at a house elf and asked him if he had any Orange Juice, he was tired of drinking tea.

She wrinkled her nose at the mention of tea. She disliked tea greatly, that was one habit that she could not deal with, she couldn't appreciate it as others did. She preferred her coffee or her just smoothies.

"I am American, from Los Angeles, California" she replied.

She had no idea about the city, but she was polite about it and nodded as if she understood.

"Why don't we sit" she said softly walking to the table.

Noticing the sketches she smiled softly admiring it. She always had a love of art and she definitely found him as talented. Looking up at him she smiled.

"They have all different kinds of of juice, they're amazing really"

The elf's eyes watered at the mention of their good job and squeaked before running off to get tea.

Eric nodded, and moved to go sit with Tess. He found it interesting that she was from California. He had always wanted to go there. He had travled many places. He had even been to Asia. His Father always took him places.

"Was it nice there?" He asked. "Winnipeg is very boring but it's home." He said sadly. He really did miss it there.

Eric brightened at the idea of good juice. He really didn't like tea. He wondered if they had maple suryp. He hoped so.

He really liked house elves he loved that his common room was near the kitchens.

She made a small noise of contentment at thinking of her home town. Los Angeles was huge and very populated so she found it must different here. She loved it here for she had met good friends, and gotten closer to people, but she missed the warm sun.

"It was" she said with a soft smile and hearing his comment she added "Ah, well I could say that Los Angeles is always full of life, but then again it took me two hours to fall asleep surrounded by complete silence"

The elves brought her usual guava juice that she happily drank. It was sweet and matched the strawberry tart perfectly.

"Thank you Tinky" she said to the elf who waited patiently for Eric's order. "Hey, what kind of drink would you like?"
