Too Young (JJ and Briony)

JJ walked toward the headmistresses office with a few tears in her eyes. She felt a great sadness for the young girl. She had a copy of the note she had left. The young Slytherin girl, Alcyone had requested to keep the original, for the person it was for. She had not raised an objection. The girl's friends had the right to read it.

She reached her office and knocked on the door wiping her eyes. She was here as a professional. She shouldn't let any emotions get in the way. She cleared her mind of all the unhappy thoughts that had entered it since finding out about the young Gryffindor girl's suicide.

Briony sighed lightly when she heard someone knocking on the door to her office, she wondered what the problem could be, and she hoped that it would be nothing that would interfere with her plans that she had later on tonight, she was supposed to be deciding her child's name with Richard.

Waving her wand at the door it opened and there stood one of her Professors, giving her the signature brief smile, Briony waved her inside and thought about what she could be here for, she looked a little distressed, and she felt immediately like something was wrong.

"What is it?" she asked, straight to the point.

JJ Sighed and walked in. She didn't return the slight smile she got. She instead too a seat. She looked her in the eye and closed her eyes briefly. A small gesture of mourning for the girl. She had been too young.

"I'm sorry to bother you. It's Miss Jones." She said unable to say the girl's first name. She couldn't make this personal. Last name only, it was the only way she could stay calm and keep the tears at bay. "She committed suicide today." She said trying to keep her voice even.

"Here's the note she left." She said handing it over. She waited as she read the girl's last words.

I'm sorry. I couldn't do it any more. I know what people will say that I'm a coward well I am. I couldn't face loving someone who couldn't love me. I couldn't deal with having someone come after me and others again and again. I couldn't do it, any of it. It was too much. I know no one cares but I'm sorry.

Seeing that the almost sombre mood increased, Briony was not getting good feelings from this, and she wondered again what could have brought this on in a usually happy member of her staff. When she mentioned that there was a problem with Anne, Briony thought this was strange, normally Anne came to her directly when she had a problem.

Briony raised an eyebrow when she said that Anne had committed suicide and she felt her heart grow a little heavy, the loss was great for her friends and those close to her, she personally was not very close to the girl, but she appreciated being told, instead of her finding out.

Taking the note Briony looked over it and placed it on the desk in front of her.

"I see, and where have you put the corpse?" she asked, perhaps a little bit indelicately, but Briony was used to death, practicality was what mattered here, then grief could be dealt with.

JJ looked at the head and knew that she had dealt with this thing before, but still she herself felt that she could still show a bit of grief. A girl was dead. She had suffered enough to end her own life, surly that entitled some grief.

"A few students found her and grabbed Lolly, they took her to the hospital wing." She told her. "I believe the students were Alcyone Malfoy and Eric Laterman." She told her knowing she would want to talk to those students herself.

"As far as I know, she didn't have a family. Who are we going to contact?" She asked trying to think of who the girl was staying with.

Briony could practically feel the scorn coming from the woman, but she didn't much care, the truth was, she had always thought that it was stupid of people to end their own lives, it was in truth very saddenning that they should feel that way, but there was unlimited amount of help for them, unlimited amount of possibilities in the future, and whatever the matter was, it surely could not have been that great.

The girl was 12 after all. What matters could a twelve year old face that would cause her to do such a thing? Briony knew other who had suffered worse, and were still alive and very happy.

"I fear I might not be the best one to talk about given the fact I'm less than emotional about the idea, but we shall tell nobody then if she has nobody to tell, I shall gather her Guardian, I believe thats Sofia Slytherin, and tell her. I believe to make a big deal of the event, is a disgrace to her memory, and things should be handled tactfully."

JJ noted the lack of concern and shook her head. She wasn't going to talk about it more than necessary. She knew what it was like to be a child. To think that she was alone. She also knew that Anne must have been in a lot of pain to do this. She hoped that she was in a better place. Wherever that may be. She looked a Briony saying nothing. She didn't have a thing to say for the look in her eyes.

She shook her head and had to ask. "Briony I mean no disrespect but, you have met her, even I saw the pain in her eyes. I've heard stories about what that boy did to her. Everyone has seen what he carved in her face and arm. Do you think that we should have seen this?" She asked. She knew that she had no one to blame but Anne but still. To blame a girl who felt she had no way out was hard to do.

"I'll talk to them if you wish, or the counsellor." She said wondering about the man. "Well Sophia might not take it well. She was rather fond of her." She said sadly. "I have no clue what would be a disgrace I barely knew the girl. I recomend you talk to her friends." She said wondering who that note was for. "I'll ask Miss Malfoy, she said she knew who the note was for." She said to her.

Briony looked at the Professor in front of her and raised her eyebrow, she stood up from her desk, and glowered at the woman for even making the insinuation that she had done nothing when the girl had been to visit her before, she knew what had happened in the girls life and she had decided that there was nothing to be done more than what she had done already.

"Excuse me. You have no right to speak to me in this manner. You know not of the meetings I have had with Anne, I know what happened, I have done things about it, I placed warnings up about the child who attacked her, offered to protect her but she refused, I allowed Lolly to keep an eye on her as she would not let me. So don't you DARE sit there and tell me that there was a better way I could have handled this! Or so help me I will do something I won't regret later."

Right now, Briony was so angry flicks of shadows touched her cheeks as she gathered them from around the room, even when she was pregnant, her moods were still viscious.

"Don't tell me what to do, you insolent girl. I know how to handle situations like this, and as bad as it sounds, others have grown up here with pain in their eyes, they had accepted help and gotten better. Staying silent caused this, it is nobody's fault but Anne's. I shall handle this situation, you have made a bad move with what you just said to me. I suggest you leave before I fire you. Or worse." she growled.

JJ saw the anger but she didn't care. She was going to be fired anyway she might as well speak her mind.

"Well, I will speak to you however I see fit." She growled. "I wont blame a child who was in enough pain to take her own life. I may no nothing of your talks, but I do know children. You are intimating, and to children often rather frightening. If you had wanted to stop this you could have. So yes I dare stand here and tell you that to blame a child for having so much pain in her life is something I wont do." She said also standing.

She felt no remorse for her words.

"What if it was your child. Would you still stand there like this. You have no clue what she went through. When you were 12 years old had you been tortured, and cut up? Had you lost your family?" She asked nearly screaming.

Briony smirked lightly, and she shook her head, there was something about the way that the woman spoke to her that almost made her want to clap for making such a bold move in trying to cut her up, she felt a spark of mischeviousness in her eyes as she responded;

"Intimidating I may be, but not so intimidating that she spoke to me on two separate occasions? I always make time for my students, and in this day and age being like me is what you need to get things done. You know nothing of me, what I do in my spare time. I fail to comprehend what pain a twelve year old can feel from love? Is that not what she said in her letter, twelve year olds do not fall in love. It was a stupid reason."

Growling now Briony slammed her hand down on the desk and she walked closer to the woman pointing her wand out at her; "You don't even deserve to know how wrong you are, all I'll tell you is this, there's a reason I am as emotionally hard as I am now, and that reason might just be very similar to the things your claiming I know nothing about. Don't try to make claims about that which you do not know."

Her shadow powers now out of control, Briony heard the flickers of the shadows punching through furnature;

"Charlotte Smith, Sam Hawthorn, Senium Nex, Eva Jordon, Parker Emery, I know the name of every child in pain in this school. So don't you DARE stand there, and say that to me. Don't you DARE."

JJ didn't care about her job or her life right now. She had things to say and she was going to say them. She wasn't the child she once was. She couldn't be pushed around. Briony may have had horrors but so had she, but she had not let them turn her hard.

"Well I doubt you asked or talked about how the eleven year old was coping with the fact that she lost her family, or the fact that she was tortured. No I think you talked about the safety of the other students and where she was going to go. I doubt you know that she had nearly jumped off the tower before. Even if you did, you did nothing about it." She shouted at her.

"So instead of letting your horrors teach you things you let it make you hard? Well fine, despite my outwardly appearance I have suffered as well. But instead of taking the easy way I learned from it, so I wouldn't hurt others." She said glaring.

"I never doubted that you did." She said referring to the names. "However I will do what I please. I'm not scared off you or your power. You can wish me dead or take away my job, fine. I don't care." She said at her.

Briony raised her eyebrow and she sat there on her desk while the woman had her say, she was no longer going to be involved in a mudslinging match between a child and herself. For that was what she was. A child.

So she thought that she wasn't strong? Well she was. And she didn't need the approval of someone worth nothing to her to tell her that.

"Are you quite finished?" she asked after there had been a lull in her rants for a second "I don't show emotions outwardly that pisses off some people, but it is who I am and you need to deal with that fact. Believe it or not I did actually give a damn, but your rapidly making ms care less and less about this whole situation. It hasn't hurt anyone, being like this, people either like it and we are friends, or they don't and they buggar off, you can't seriously blame me for the girls personal troubles? That's ludacris.

"I did everything in my power, whether she came to me or other staff, she's told somebody, however it seems the real failure is in my staff for not telling me these things. If you were in knowledge of the child attempting to take her life before, why not come and tell me? Then I could have done something. The fault is with people like you. Moaning to me when the deed is done instead of being proactive."

Sighing Briony sat down on her desk and folded her hands;

"You're suspended for three weeks. I suggest you let yourself calm down and think rationally, one thing apparently your 'hardships' haven't taught you."

JJ sighed knowing she had gone too far. She shook her head at herself for letting this happen. She really should control her temper.

"Well I'm done, I'll accept my punishment and be gone. However I just want to clarify. I just found out about her previous attempt today. Had I know I would have done a charm to ensure she couldn't do something this foolish again. I'm not blaming you as much as myself. My apologies headmistress." She said leaving the office.

Briony watched her member of staff with a cold eye as she left the office and she knew that she needed to see Richard almost immediately afterwards, she had not been very cordial she knew that, but she had hoped that her punishment would have been fair.

In light of what she wanted to do it had certainly seemed so. Standing up from her desk Briony grabbed her coat and walked down the floors of Hogwarts to her husbands office, hopefully he would be able to do something to improve her mood a little bit.
