Checking It Out (OPEN)

Darcie smiled lightly when she walked into the staffroom that she didn't even know was there, it was something that was very unusual to her but she had hoped that there would be another member of staff in there for her to make friends with.

She had already made friends with the Herbology Professor, Mik, and she had secretly hoped that he would be in here so that they could talk again, but alas the room was empty.

Looking around she managed to spot some drinks in the corner, and wrinkled her nose when she smelt the strong scent of alcohol, she just wanted some coca-cola! Blinking when the can of drink she had wanted appeared, Darcie took it cautiously, opened it, and sipped.

With a glance over to the comfy sofa, Darcie jumped on it and sprawled out, looking like a sort of cat as she relaxed.

Vladimir walked into the staff room. He decided to have a walk around Durmstrang for a while, since it had been a long time since he had last been here. He was glad he applied as an Astronomy Lehrer. And head of Verstand.

As Vlad made his way to a couch, he nearly sat on someone. The woman seemed like a Lehrer he had seen a few days ago. Was the woman snoozing or something? "'Scuse mi? Are you avake?" he asked. He didn't quite see the woman's face.

Then Vlad saw something. The woman was holding it. It read coca-cola on the front. He shrugged, figuring it was some sort of Muggle thing. "'Ello?" he said.

Darcie stirred a little bit, and she jolted awake as she heard someone speaking to her, she hadn't even realised that she had fallen asleep in the first place, it was so embarrassing to be found sleeping, she'd never done it before and was in no hurry to repeat the incident.

"Oh my! Sorry I...do you want to sit down?" she asked, scooting across the sofa to allow the man to sit down on the other half if he wanted to.

Running her hand through her hair, Darcie pouted slightly when she realised it was ruffled from her little cat nap, hopefully it wouldn't be too bad, she didn't have a brush or anything.

"Hi there," Darcie smiled "I'm Darcie Vane, Soothsaying and Dark Arts professor, are you new?"

Vladimir only smiled when the lady suddenly woke up and scooted across the sofa. "Yes, thank you. I nearly thought you were dead. You weren't moving at all," Vlad said quietly, chuckling a bit. It was terrifying to imagine that, and it was even more terrifying if it had actually happened.

He suddenly thought of some tea. Then on the table appeared a freshly brewed green tea. He took it and took a sip. It was quite calming to have tea once in a while. He had to admit that, since he wasn't a tea person.

"Hello, Darcie. I am Vladimir Martinov. Yes, I'm new. I'm the new head of Verstand and Astronomy Lehrer." Vlad said and smiled. "Dark Arts and Soothsaying? It must be hard to have two classes. I can barely even manage my one class," he smirked.

Darcie giggled a little and shook her head, she didn't know that she was that heavy of a sleeper to look dead when she was dozing, but she didn't really mind, she could imagine that she had given the new professor a little bit of a scare though, she thought with a smile.

"I guess I'm just a bit of a heavy sleeper, I was just so tired after today's lessons and then I went to watch the tournament task too, so I'm a little tireder than normal." she grinned gently.

When Vladimir told her that he was in fact the new Astronomy Professor she beamed at him, but also she felt kind of bad, he was in the towers and so was she, she should have at least gone to see him to say hello.

"Then I'm surprised our paths haven't crossed before, us both being stuck in those towers." she laughed "Well sad to say, soothsaying isn't that popular so I dont have a lot of work to do. How about Astronomy?"

Vladimir smiled lightly. "Oh, yes, the tournament is fantastic. It would be great if Durmstrang wins. But Hogwarts winning wouldn't be too bad. Everyone wants this war to stop, after all." Vlad said.

Then he laughed at what Darcie said. "Well, I'm afraid we had to wait until now."

Vlad took another sip of the tea. "Well, I've noticed not most liked soothsaying. Even when I was the student, I was one of the only people who liked that class. It was the lehrer I liked. Even with my annoying blabbing, she seemed to be tolerant," he said.

"Eh, well, Astronomy isn't that popular, either. I barely had any students last lesson, and I'm afraid no one would show up this lesson." Vlad said and shrugged.

Darcie smiled gently, she did want Durmstrang to win but then again, maybe Hogwarts would be a little nicer to them if they won instead, it was something that was a little bit unsure even in the Highmasters mind she bet. Sipping at her coca-cola she sighed;

"I think that it's a very good idea that they did the tournament, although I hope whoever loses can do so in good grace, and it doesn't make them bitter." she said with a small smile

Nodding her head Darcie pouted a little bit; "Yes, there are some lovely students who show up to my lessons, they are all so very punctual and attentive, but sometimes I'm a little sad their aren't more."

Biting her lip, Darcie knew how Vladimir felt and she hoped that more students would take the lesson when they joined up next year, it was interesting after all;

"Was it always your favourite subject at school, astronomy?"

Vlad nodded and replied, "It would be nice if any of the schools win. Let's just hope that the school who loses wont become bitter, or even more angry at the other school. I'm pretty sure everyone's sick of the war already."

He grinned a little. "Well, sometimes we just have to get us to it. We'll probably have more students, soon enough." he said.

Then Vlad chuckled. He remembered the old days, when he was first introduced to Astronomy. "Well, no. Actually, it was the class I disliked the most. But, surprisingly, I'm excellent at it. Maybe the reason why I didn't like it was because we did it on the middle of the night," he grinned.

Darcie nodded, she was glad to find someone who thought that same as her when it came to the tournament, she could see one of the sides becoming a little bit more saddened and bitter by loosing, perhaps they would have to have some sort of party afterwards to cheer everyone?

"I hope that we would have more students when the new years come in." she smiled gently "Although I have to say, I'm getting a little worried that students might be wanting to actually learn Dark Arts spells in later years..."

When Vlad told her that it was the class that he hated the most Darcie blinked a little bit and tilted her head to one side, she didn't understand, if Vladimir hated the lesson why would he want to teach it?

"I suppose it's always good to teach a class you do well in, thats why I teach soothsaying, but its a little sad if you don't like teaching it. What was your favourite lesson?"

Vlad nodded at what Darcie said. "Dark Arts spells are quite useful, though it won't be very good for the future if students start using it for evil and such," he said quite simply.

He blinked when Darcie asked him what his favorite class was, and why did he apply for the Astronomy lehrer job if he hated it. "Well, I am starting to like Astronomy. Now that I'm allowed to have coffee," he chuckled.

"My favorite lessons were Potions and Dark Arts. I would have applied for one of them, but seeing as there are already others who applied for the job, I took Astronomy instead. It isn't as bad now. I guess my the lehrer back then was quite... boring." Vlad shrugged.

Darcie smiled gently, she already knew that she would not be able to teach anyone how to use dark magic, it just wasn't in her to try and do that especially since they might then use them in a bad way, or to hurt someone on purpose without provocation.

"I think I'll just teach them the theory, I don't want it on my head if someone decides to go and hurt someone with the spells that I teach them." she said, biting her lip as she did so.

Smiling gently Darcie giggled a little bit; "So coffee makes the late nights all the more bareable?"

With a little shy look Darcie felt a little bit guilty for teaching both classes however she needed the money and Vladimir seemed to already have the Lehrer position and a head of house position.

"I'm glad that you don't mind teaching it now, I feel a little bit bad though for taking one of the jobs that you want."
