Re: Lesson One
Ava was not surprised when the first student to have a broom in their hands was Tarragon. Though her heart did stop a moment when Alys was too nervous to manage it the first time, though the bright smile on her face when she did get it made Ava's heart start up again.
Realizing she had yet to do it, Ava put her hand over her broom, and talking like she would if she was looking for Kai when she did something naughty, she commanded, "Up!"
The broom thumped into her hand solidly, making Ava relax and feel pride in herself. Now if only Kai would respond to that tone as well as the old broom had done, she would be a lot better off.
Getting to the second part of the instructions, Ava swung her leg up and over the hovering broom, gripping firmly, but not so tight her knuckles were white. The maneuver was not as graceful as it could have been, Ava was used to much tighter fitting clothing than the loose layers of cloth and fur that made up the Durmstrang uniform. She had gotten caught up in the extra fabric making the move clumsy and uncoordinated despite her years of dance and dueling practice.

Re: Lesson One
Lukas decided it was best if he went to the end of the group so as not to be in anybody else's sight and do as the instructions came. He had been using his Hurrikan 5000 for some weeks now and had practiced flying on it with his father. Hurrikan originally came in dark brown wood with golden footrest but he had spent 20 Galeons from his hard earned job on the ships to paint the broom a special dark aqua paint and change the footrest to platinum. He was rather proud of his broom, one of the best brooms of the recent times made by Germany's own Oskar Schmidt.
He didn't have to try hard or speak loudly like most of the students except for blond boy and wild cat. His movements were not very graceful but he was definitely fluid in his motion as he settled on his broom, patiently waiting for the next set of instructions.

Re: Lesson One
Alys gave the Risiko student a thumbs up at managing to get her broom in hand the first time. Then, feeling a little foolish but taking heart from the fact that everyone was doing it, she mounted her broom. Mounting one in a skirt was no easy task but she managed. She had ridden her bike in a skirt before so she supposed this wouldn't be too bad.
Once astride the old school broom, she waited for Lehrer Vikki's next instructions.

Re: Lesson One
Viktoria smiled as all the students managed to do the manover, it was encouraging, and she thought that Alys especially needed this confidence boost coming from the starter activity, she seemed to be getting a little more calm, which was good.
"Okay then!"
Clapping her hands she smiled widely and gestures to the students, now was the test, it wasn't just a simple task it required balance and poise, so cockiness was not going to get you anywhere.
"Now, what I want you to do is kick off from the ground hard, and hover about a foot from the ground for a few seconds before touching back down."
After she had wandered down the students row checking their grips Viktoria moved out of the way and she gave them all the thumbs up.
"Off you go, don't be nervous, you'll do great." she said to Alys

Re: Lesson One
The moment the instructions were given Lukas gave a small push to the ground and he started hovering about the ground just as he was told. He successfully completed this little task by landing back in a few seconds. Finally something was being taught here, he thought.
He looked up at Lehrer Steinberg with a smile hoping the class would not end just yet and that she has some sort of a surprise for them.

Re: Lesson One
Taking courage from Lehrer Vikki's tone, Alys stomped on the ground with her right leg in an attempt to kick off. To no one's surprise, it didn't work. The blonde felt her face coloring when she realized how silly this must look. If her broom could laugh at her, it certainly would.
Well, Mama always did say that if you don't succeed at first, get some butter, the witch thought as she tried again, this time stomping with her left leg. Once again nothing happened. The witch glanced helplessly around at her teachers and her friends, hoping for some tips on what to do now.

Re: Lesson One
Viktoria smiled up at Lukas, he had managed to do it very well but it also seemed like he was one of the students who had flown before, she gave him the thumbs up and she wondered maybe he had just gotten off to a bad start.
"Right Alys, here let me help you."
Walking over to her, Viktoria placed her hand on the broom and shook her head slightly, she tapped it once with her wand and the small glitch in the innermost workings of the broom were fixed.
"Here now give that a try. The silly broom was broken, it's a wonder you got it to respond to you at all, well done! And well done to you too Lukas!"

Re: Lesson One
Of course it would be just her luck to pick the wrong broom. But the witch would have felt worse about it if Lehrer Vikki hadn't been so encouraging. As it was, she only let out a laugh. "Danke, Lehrer Vikki," she said gratefully and did as the teacher instructed. Using her left leg, the witch kicked off from the ground and to her amazement, was hovering in the air.
It was nothing like riding a bicycle. There was no pedals and no baskets, the handle was firm in her fingers and the slight wind swaying both her hair and her broom made a soft smile lighten her features.
It may be only a foot off the ground, by Alys now knew what it was like to fly.

Re: Lesson One
Watching Alys do her hover first, as not to make her feel uncomfortable, Tarragon smiled in her direction, hoping to encourage her more. He then kicked off from the ground hard, hovered and put his feet back on the ground. Childs play, he thought to himself. When they got to the proper flying, he'd show Lukas a thing or two, and hopefully manage to impress their Lehrer too!
"You okay, Alys?" He asked gently, he could see she had relaxed on the outside, he just hoped he could help her to calm down completely, so that she could enjoy the experience.

Re: Lesson One
Viktoria looked out over her class, they were all doing very well, biting her lip she saw that it was about time to go inside for their next lesson, so with regret she coughed slightly to get the classes attention once more.
"Sorry guys, it seems I let time run away with me a little bit today, so this is all I have time for this lesson."
Looking a little dissappointed in herself Viktoria smiled slightly and perked up when she thought of the next lesson they were going to have together, it was going to be much better than this one she was sure of it, she would even bring them treats.
"Next lesson were going to be doing some races! Practicing our low level flying before we gradually climb up a little bit higher. Can you all put your brooms back? I'll see you all next lesson! And have five housepoints each for being so good."

Re: Lesson One
The class had to end when he was just beginning to enjoy it but oh well he had the races to look forward to in the next class. There is no way anybody can beat him in a fair race. Not because he was an excellent rider but due to the simple fact that he had the fastest broom among all the students.
Lehrer Stienberg had given them all 5 points which meant he had made amends for the earlier loss. With a satisfactory end to the class he left the grounds with a smile.

Re: Lesson One
"Peachy," she replied to Tarragon before turning to Lehrer Vikki who was concluding the lesson.
Next lesson were going to be doing some races!
Races! The witch's jaw dropped as the instructor explained how they would be practicing low level flying. Well, so long as it was not too far off the ground, crashing wouldn't hurt too badly.
The witch handed her broom back to Lehrer Vikki before turning to her two friends, waiting for them to finish up so they could walk off into the weekend together. Another reason Lehrer Vikki was cool, she had scheduled flying lessons on Friday afternoons, giving the students an early start to the weekend.
