Lesson One

[Katrina Starr]

Professor Starr walked into the class and looked around at the faces of her students. Not many had signed up to take Charms this term and she was a little disappointed. Slowly she made her way to the front of the class room and waved her wand at the blackboard where long thin writing slowly appeared.

Alohomora: A spell used to unlock any door that is not warded by magic

She then turned back to the class "this will be the spell that we will be studying for this first lesson." Professor Starr looked over the faces of her students again before smiling. "Now I'm not one for much homework so here's the deal" she began "I will allow you to practice the charm in class and if you are not able to get it on the first try then every other lesson I will expect you to cast the spell" Raising her wand a few inches from her waste she continued "now the proper motion to cast a Alohomora spell is flicking your wand in a small swooping motion from left to right whilst repeating the incantation Alohomora." She pointed her wand at set of cabinets not to far away waved her wand and said the incantion, smiling as she heard the click of the look, turning back to her students she said "Ok class now it's your turn"

Ryana walked quietly along the third floor corridor toward the Charms classroom which was her first lesson of the day. Her eyes were glued to the pages of a thick book she had brought with her from the library. She stopped outside the classroom to shove the thinck book into her bag before pulling out her charms book and walking slowly into the classroom. Ryana noticed a few other students were sitting in the class awaiting the strange but beautiful Professor Starr. She took a seat in the front of the class and proceeded to lay out her new set of quills and a fresh bottle of ink as well as some parchment for notetaking. Her eyes roamed the room taking in the various shelves and cabinets that lined the walls of the classroom. A few minutes later her eyes jumped to the door as a young blonde woman entered the room. Ryana smiled a little as the professor passed her on her way to the front of the room. She saw the professor flick her wand at the chalk board before words appeared and she began to speak to all of them. The woman introduced herself as their Charms professor. Professor Starr told them that they would be learning the "Alohomora Charm" which was used to unlock doors. "A useful spell" thought Ryana although she was a bit disappointed that she wouldn't be learning some harder spells until later on. "Now it's your turn" was what the professor said at the end of her speech and Ryana gulped. She had never done any, even accidental magic, since before she was bitten by that werewolf six months ago. Ryana looked up as Professor Starr placed a mechanical lock on her desk, that looked something like a muggle padlock. She then told all the students to practic the charm on the locks they were given before she turned and walked slowly back toward the front of the room. Ryana sighed and raised her wand using the motion taught by Professor Starr, swooping left to right, she stuttered out the incantation..."A...A..Allo..h..h..ho...m...m..mora" Needless to say the lock remained just like it had been before she tried the spell. Sighing again, Ryana raised her wand and muttered "Almohora." The lock once again did not change. Ryana growled angrily getting slightly frustrated with the lock and once again raised her wand and chanted "Alohomora" and the lock sprung open. Smiling Ryana relocked the padlock and tried the spell a few more times. With some difficulty she was able to reopen the lock twice more before the bell to signal the end of class blared loudly.

Darren walked to the class, yawning a little. He was still a bit drowsy from taking some medication, but he'd live...

Alohomora... He made a mental note of it, and drew out his wand and said confidently, "Alohomora!" and the lock rattled, but it definitely wasn't going to open.

"ALOHOMORA!" He said loudly again, and the lock gave itself a few feeble shakes, and after he repeated it a few times, the lock undid itself and opened.

He locked it again and continued practising and after awhile, he became flawless at it, with a smile on his face, he continued.

[Airen Auditoren]

Airen walked into the classroom. He sat in his seat and laid his wand on his desk. He listened as the professor told the way to cast the spell. When she'd finished, he picked up his wand, and practiced the wrist movement he saw the professor do. When he thought he had it, he pointed it at the lock. While he knew how to pick locks and crack codes, magic seemed to make it much easier.

"Alohamora," he said while making the movement of his wrist. The lock clicked open. Airen sighed. He was glad he got it right the first time, of that may've been beginner's luck.
