Professor Nocte was sitting by a window, looking at a tree by Black lake. With a flick of a wrist, she made the water from the lake dance like silk. She been in a very good mood these days for absolutely no reason at all.

This lesson was going to last the whole school year.

Entering the classroom, she realized she was the only one there in the class. She smiled softly at the Professor, but realized that she was distracted. She lowered her gaze and simply sat down waiting for class to begin.

Occlumency: Fourth Years: First Lesson Empty Re: Occlumency: Fourth Years: First Lesson

Post by Humphrey Williams Wed Jun 13, 2012 12:00 pm

This was not a class he had been looking forward to. He loved Occlumency, but it was with two people who he didn't want to talk to at the moment. Both were great people, but Tess and him weren't speaking. As for Keiba, well he needed to talk to her about what happened the end of last year with Tess. Humphrey didn't want to, because he knew it would blow any chance he ever had with her; but, it was the right thing to do. Hopefully he could save Keiba's friendship though. She was his best friend, that much he knew for fact.

"Hello Professor Nocte." he said, and he walked to the seat directly in front of the professor's desk. Hopefully, if things went poorly between Tess and him, or Keiba and him, (when she got there that was), the professor could intervene. If they saw some of his memories, they may very well attack him with their minds. He knew that, and he wouldn't fight back. Humphrey deserved anything they wanted to do to him. Promising himself that he wouldn't make such a fool of himself again in his mind, he tried to calm his thoughts before the lesson began. Focusing on just breathing in and out steadily, the emotions quieted just a bit. Soon, he was as calm as he was going to get.

Occlumency: Fourth Years: First Lesson Empty Re: Occlumency: Fourth Years: First Lesson

Post by Alice Nocte Thu Jun 14, 2012 10:21 am

Professor Nocte was curious by the looks on Tess and Humphrey's faces. Should she use Occlumency to look into their minds and thoughts without them noticing a thing? No, she shouldn't be nosy in her student's business, like what Teresa tells her, 'Mind your beeswax'. Found it off somewhere Muggle probably.

She clapped her hand loudly once to get her student's attention.

"Welcome back, Ms. McCartney, Mr. Williams," she greeted them, having their attention. "Today, you are going to be against a more powerful Occlumency user to understand how much stronger others will be than you. You must know that you should not take your powers for Occlumency to think you are better than everyone else because you can get to their minds. You two are going up against me for the whole school year. Try to get into my mind as best as you can. Yes, you are going to attack me at the same time. Good luck, I'm ready if you two are."

Haley had sent her owl early that morning with a note to professor Nocte, saying she had caught a stomach virus and she needed to go to the infirmary which would render her late to class. Now she walked into the classroom silently, giving a small smile to the professor. She had heard the last few sentences, but without context, Haley didn't really know what to do. She walked over to Tess and looked at the professor, a questionmark clear on her face.

Haley walked in late, which was unusual for her. He wondered if something was wrong. "You okay, Haley? You aren't usually late. It is all of us against Professor Nocte, attacking her at the same time. At least, she said Tess and I were supposed to." he explained to Haley.

Then he realized the professor hadn't said if more than two people could attack her at once. "Is it alright if Haley joins us in the attack, Professor?" he asked her. Humphrey knew Alice Nocte had a powerful mind, but three on one was pretty lopsided. At least he thought it would be; then again, maybe he was underestimating her ability.

"Hello, Ms. Smith," Professor Nocte greeted. "I hope you are feeling better. And of course, she will join, Mr. Williams. It just makes it more fun for me and better learning experience for all of you."

Looking at the time, she said, "Please start."

Haley gave a small smile to Humphrey. "Yeah, I'm fine. A trip to the infirmary was all I needed," she said happily.

She then listened to what Humphrey said and then to professor Nocte. Haley nodded her head and pulled out her wand, pointing it at the professor. "Legilimens," she said sharply and she found herself in a dark place. She grew accustomed to the darkness quickly enough and soon, she could see the shapings of a massive wall.

Haley walked to the wall and started prying at it, though it proved to be very difficult. Haley tried for many more minutes before she stopped; it was hurting her to do this. Then she frowned. If this was a mental attack, she should be able to attack mentally.

Haley set her mind and will to breaking the wall, but nothing would budge. She imagined huge hands pulling it down, but all she got was a pebble. It was too solid. She then wondered if she could find the two others in here and try to cooperate together.

Occlumency: Fourth Years: First Lesson Empty Re: Occlumency: Fourth Years: First Lesson

Post by Keiba Namid Fri Jun 15, 2012 9:58 pm

Keiba frowned at her reflection in the mirror. She had bags under her eyes and her hair was refusing to lie flat and stop frizzing up. She knew she was already late for her first class, but that was at the bottom of her worries at the moment. For one thing, two of her good friends were champions in the International Tournament and could very possibly die; and secondly, her mother sent her an owl the day before holidays ended informing her of her older sister's disappearance from their family home.

Keiba sighed and gave up with her hair - it was a lost case. She slung her bag over her shoulder and sauntered out of the Ravenclaw Tower, down the moving staircases and round the stone corner to her Occlumency classroom, just in time to see Haley slip in, as late as Keiba was herself.

She pushed open the door and slipped quietly inside. Her head was starting to pound with the lack of sleep and food, and she cared for very little of what was happening in the class. Keiba shook her messy hair out of her tired eyes and glanced up to the rest of the class from her seat at the back.

Faintly, she registered Humphrey telling Haley what they were doing, and from some sub-conscious demand of her brain, it immediately projected her conscious forwards. Slowly, it crept out and found Professor Nocte's protected mind. Her barriers were strong, and somewhere along the way Keiba could feel Haley's mind picking at them. She decided to join in, but searching for cracks in the so-called wall, Keiba picked and chose the pieces to dislodge. Nothing fell away, though, and still the barrier stood as strong as ever.

Professor Nocte could feel that Haley and Keiba had jumped in her mind, but only the outer layer. They were trying find any cracks, any hole, or any opening. They couldn't find any, though it's more like they can't.

Smiling mentally to herself, Professor Nocte decided to play a little game with them. She can be so cruel in ways, but it's won't be dangerous.

She decided to put some cracks in her wall, only small ones. Some to taunt them to think they could get through.

"Good luck, Ms. Namid. Ms. Smith," she spoke to them in her mind.

Underneath Keiba's conscious 'fingers', parts of Professor Nocte's outer layer started to crumble. She frowned. This didn't seem quite right...

She moved along the wall and all over it little cracks were starting to appear. Soon enough, Keiba's conscious bumped into Haley's, just as Professor Nocte's voice rang in her mind. Suddenly, Keiba had an inkling of understanding.

Their teacher was playing with them.

"Haley!" She called out to her Hufflepuff friend via brainwaves. "Don't fall for it. I think these may just be... illusions. Or something."

Keiba pressed forward on the area around one of the cracks. It didn't budge. She scowled, and forced all her mind power onto it. Man, Professor Nocte had some pretty sturdy defenses.

Occlumency: Fourth Years: First Lesson Empty Re: Occlumency: Fourth Years: First Lesson

Post by Humphrey Williams Mon Jun 18, 2012 5:18 am

Humphrey had been daydreaming, and finally he refocused. Okay, he needed to join forces with Haley and Keiba against Alice. He knew she was probably easily stronger than all three of them combined. But, he would put up a good fight no matter what.

Reaching out with his mind, he brushed against Keiba's and Haley's, then kept going. Finally, he reached the iron-hard defenses of Alice's mind. There were a couple small cracks, but when he reached towards them he felt hard walls behind them. So, she was trying to trick them, interesting.

The best way to attack is get a single thought, and drive it towards her mind. Anger was the most effective thing, at least that's what he thought. What made him angry, then he got it. Senium not thinking she was beautiful because of her necrosis. That upset him so much that anger coursed through every inch of his body within seconds. His blood felt like it was getting hotter, and he focused it into a thought. All he was trying to do was put the face of Senium into Alice's mind, and he sent the thought at her with all the force behind it he could muster.

Haley felt cracks form and the minute they did, she knew something was wrong. This didn't happen to adults. She knew that due to her parents. They continously showed her how things worked. These cracks were fakes. She then heard Nocte's voice and narrowed her eyes. That confirmed it.

She smiled when she heard Keiba's thoughts. "My thoughts exactly," she replied back in the same manner. It was weird; it was as though their minds were combined. Then she felt Humphrey joining them. She smirked and then understood his plans. She tilted her head to the side and figured that that might be a good idea. She wondered what would break Nocte though, and figured she didn't have anything to go by, so she started bringing up memories of herself; it was impossible to keep the wall completely sturdy when one tried to see memories of other people at the same time. She'd find a weak spot if Nocte fell for it, something Haley was pretty sure she wouldn't.

Alice smiled at the fact her students can easily tell the cracks were a trick. Or was it she made it too easy? She was going to go easy on them anyways for the first two weeks.

Humphrey had joined in and they were looking around for any opening. She had not lived her entire life she had memories of not working on putting barriers up everywhere.

With a blink, she decided to to make them do puzzle to get past each wall.

The walls cracked and 'My love will die and my purity will be tainted'. On the floor daisies, lilies, roses, tulips, and sakuras.

"Set love on fire and cover purity with water," she told them, wondering if they understand.

Post by Tess McCartney Tue Jun 19, 2012 8:36 am

Tess was the last one to enter the group work. She didn't know why she felt weaker, but she squinted and tried to push through. She intertwined her magic with the other three, trying to break into the mind of the Professor.

She wasn't stupid, she knew that this was all false, all of it, for someone who was such an expert wouldn't break. She pushed through trying to figure it out.

The riddle thought was complicated. Seeing the flower, she realized that purity was symbolized through lilies, and the roses showed love.

"Daisies and Lilies symbolize purity and Tulips and Roses symbolize love. What does Sakura flowers cover...purity?' she asked the others frantically.

She was happy she knew about flowers but the cherry blossom stumped her.

"May I cover them?" she asked in permission.

Professor Nocte felt Tess had enter in the game. She was confused when Tess considered the daises and tulips, too. The sakuras too.

She listen to the question. She smiled.

"Miss McCartney," she said, "It's only one that represent love and another one the represent purity. The others are just there for show. It's only one for each."

The wall crumbled some more, letting holes appear.

Haley didn't understand. She could only place two of the flowers in the other category. She didn't know about the others. So she decided to use only two of the flowers and with her mind, she set fire to the rose and covered the lilly with water, hoping she wasn't too far off.

Professor Nocte smile at Haley's work. With a push, she shoved all her students out of her mind.

"Well, good work, Miss Smith," she said. "We'll end the lesson now. The same thing will happen the next lesson."
