Taking a stroll (Open)

Odette strolled by the lake. Out of anywhere she could be in Hogwarts, the lake was by far her favorite. The glassy surface of the water fasitated her, and Odette longed to see what was underneath the calm exterior. Rumors favored a giant squid, and of course, she wanted to see it.

Odette, not paying attention to where she was going, fell into someone. Falling to the ground, she found herself muddy and wet. She had landed in the water.

Humphrey was sitting by the black lake, reading Anne Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. So far the book was excellent, and it was living up to be every bit as good as described. It was a classic, he would have to recommend it to Tess. Some people thought him peculiar because he read books, but he didn't really care what other people thought about him.

Out of nowhere, somebody bumped into him. Hearing a splash he stood up, and took the oppurtunity to offer a hand. "You alright there? Need a hand up?" Humphrey asked. The person was a girl, with fire-engine red hair. He had to admit she was pretty, but he was no longer single. Besides, Senium was perfect for him, and even prettier than this girl in his opinion. Being helpful though, was something he had always tried to do.

Odette heard someone talking her, and without a second thought she took the hand that was stretched to her. "Lovely. Thank you." Odette finally looked to whom was speaking to her. It was a boy, possibly her age. It was hard to tell, as faces blended in Hogwarts to her.

Odette finally examined herself. Her hair was wet and tangled in her face, and mud met the base of her neck and face, along with ruining her robes. Laughing to herself, she stretched out her arms. "This is an interesting way to meet, yeah?" She asked politely with a smile on her face. "Thanks for the help again... Errr..." She was drawing a blank. What was the mystery boys name? Everyone had a name. "I'm Odette." There. That was a start of something.

He pulled her up when she took his hand. Then he laughed, "Lovely? You just fell in a lake. Most girls I know would be freaking out about being all muddy and stuff right now." She looked surprisingly comfortable, despite the fact she was wet, and had mud on her.

Oddly, the girl laughed after seeing how she looked. "Yea, most definitely an interesting way to meet. Can't say I've ever been bumped into while reading a book, and then had to help that person out of a lake." Humphrey admitted, laughing just a bit. "I'm Humphrey, nice to meet you Odette. That is a pretty name, is it French, perhaps?" he asked her.

"Then I guess you have met the one girl who isn't like that." Odette's nose crinkled a bit. "I don't like girls like that. They can be obnoxious." That was an understatement. Odette hated girls. Well, she didn't hate her sister. But that was different.

"Well today's your lucky day." Odette challenged teasingly, lightly laughing along with his. "Oh, I don't know!" Her eyes went wide. "I'm not french, I'm from Seattle. I moved to Bath when I was..." She paused, pursing her lips. "Well, when I was small. That's all I know." Odette started attempting to clean herself up a bit, using the lake water to get the mud off of her skin.

"Nice to meet you Humphrey." Odette said quietly. "Sorry to interrupt your reading." She had a strained smile on her face, paranoia settling in under her skin.

"I'm sure there are others, there are tomboys in the world." he told her, teasing her a bit. "I know what you mean, some girls freak out about the tiniest things. Like bugs for example, what's the big deal? You can squash them with your foot, what's to be afraid of?" Humphrey asked. He liked girls, but some of them were a little bit annoying.

He'd just met Odette, but he could already tell she would be fun to hang out with. "I suppose it is." Odette's eyes widened, she didn't know whether her name was French or not. "That's fine, it doesn't matter, just curious. So you are from Seattle, cool. So you live in Bath, that is nice, heard it is a nice area. The United States are the best though, I'm from Ohio, Dayton area. Moved to Edinburgh when I was eight after my parents died in a car accident." Humphrey explaiend to her. Now she was trying to clean herself up a bit.

"It's fine, don't worry about it. Books are great, love them, but hanging out with actual people is nice too." he said. Surprisingly, her smile became strained, and she looked a little odd. "You okay there?"

"I don't think of myself as a tomboy! I'm just happen to be a girl who would rather play in the mud than play with dolls." Upon hearing her words, Odette screamed in mock terror. "I'm a tomboy!" Odette's mouth opened in shock. "Bugs are gross. Those freaks of nature shouldn't be blessed with wings." She had a shiver of disgust go down her spine. Bugs was one thing that Odette couldn't stomach.

Odette suddenly felt a pang of sorrow for the boy she had just met. Though, she did like him so far. He seemed like friendship material for the little 'tomboy' she supposedly was. "Oh, dear. I'm so sorry about your parents." Odette couldn't imagine life without hers. It would be so hard.

"Yeah." Odette shook her head, trying to snap out of it. "I was just having a anxiety attack. I get those from time to time."

Her description of not being a tomboy was a tomboy, which she soon realized. He laughed a little bit, "It isn't a bad thing. Tomboys are awesome, Odette, trust me." Humphrey told her. "I don't mind them, but not particularly fond of them either. So, what do you like? Besides playing in the mud that is." he asked, smiling.

"It's okay, I got used to it after a while. My aunt and uncle are nice enough, just not the most sociable people." Humphrey explained. Life without his parents was hard, but he had adjusted. Making all of the friends helped a lot.

"Oh, I see." Humphrey said. He had never met anybody who got anxiety attacks before. "Well, there's nothing to worry about, I won't bite or anything."

"I've only just met you Humphrey! Trust takes time to build." Odette nodded smartly at herself. "Oh that was a stupid thing to say." Odette laughed at herself. She found she was always laughing at herself. She was just so funny! Not really, she just viewed herself as an idiot. "I do like getting dressed up, believe it or not." Odette always, when she had the chance, made herself look amazing. It wasn't conceited, she just liked to feel like a princess.

"Well at least they're nice." Odette pointed out politely. She didn't really know what else she could say about it. Everything was said, verbally and non verbally.

"I'm holding you accountable for that you know." Odette warned, mock threat.

"Well yea, it does. Tomboys are liked though, that is still true." Humphrey stated. "It's okay, I say and do stupid things all the time. "Yea, I do too. Getting dressed up is so much fun. Makes you feel all spiffy." he told her. He loved dressing up for balls and things like that.

"Haha, yup. Definitely better than nothing. So, what do you like to do in you spare time, Odette?" Humphrey asked her. She probably had stuff she liked to do outside of school, most people did.

What? He hadn't even done anything, maybe she was kidding. "Alright, sorry. Didn't mean to make you uncomfortable."

"Feeling spiffy is a wonderful feeling." Odette had to agree, getting dressed up for dances is a very good thing. "What house are you in? I can't remember if I asked or not."

"I play volleyball and swim. Things like that." Odette loved staying in shape. "I have also been introduced to quiddich and I love it. What do you do?" People always have hobbies. Odette's was sports, music, and writing.

"Sure is, my second favorite, the first of course being love. You can't really beat that feeling." Humphrey said, smiling. Sometime he would have to introduce her to Senium. "I'm in Gryffindor, what about you?" he asked in return.

"Volleyball is fun, and so is swimming, sports are the best." Humphrey told her. "Yea, I love Quidditch too, first time I saw it I was stoked. I paint, read, write, sing, dance a bit, used to play basketball, run, play guitar, and write my own songs. Also, love spending time with my girlfriend, though I'm not sure that qualifies as a hobby." he admitted, laughing a bit. Odette was a good person to talk to.

Odette smiled sadly, pulling at a loose bunch of hair that managed to make it into her face. Pinning it back, she took in a sharp breath. "I wouldn't know the feeling. Though I have heard the euphoria surrounding the love is wonderful." Her mouth made an 'O' of shock. "As am I. Why have I never seen you before now?" Odette asked. It made her curious. Though, she was curious about anything.

"You do an awful lot." Odette laughed warmly. "I just do things to keep my hands and mind engaged. Though, I am an insomniac. So I do artsy things and sports." Odette paused, shaking her head at her thought. "What's your girlfriends name? You seem really into her." She was being earnest, and she wanted to hear about the girl.

Her sad smile made him feel for her, she would fall in love someday. It was a risky business though, you had to tread lightly. "Don't worry, I'm sure you'll fall for somebody soon enough. Love's a risky business though, best to be careful. Most certainly is wonderful, Odette." Humphrey told her, smiling widely. "I don't know, I do tend to stay pretty busy. What with all my classes, job on the weekends, and I rarely spend time inside. Been preparing for the tournament actually, I'm competing in the third task. I'm sure we'll bump into each other more often." He was already beginning to get a bit nervous about what his task would be.

"Yea, I suppose I do. Painting is probably what I work on most though. That is my real passion you could say. Yes, I know what you mean, if I'm not doing something I go crazy. An insomniac, really? So you don't get any sleep at all?" Humphrey asked, he'd never met an insomniac before. "Artsy things are great, as are sports. My girlfriend's name is Senium Nex, she is a second year. And I am definitely very into her. She has long, a bit curly, blonde hair, fair-skinned, and she's pretty slim. Senium loves to dance, and has a puppet-making hobby. Really nice too, and funny, and smart. Sometime I'll have to introduce you." Humphrey loved talking about Senium, she was wonderful.

Odette laughed, finding comfort in his words. "Well, whenever it happens I'll be sure to write to you about it." She then listened to his explanations of them never meeting until just then. "You do an awful lot. Maybe I should get out more. Though, I do find that I don't like the weather patterns. i'd rather sit by the fire in the common room and relax." Odette gasped in shock. "The third task? Wow, good luck. I hope you do good." She bit her lip. Though she just met him, she didn't want to see him hurt.

"No sleep at all." Odette shrugged. "Occasionally I do get an hour in, but for the most part nothing." It was just something she was used to. Odette laughed, it was like Humphrey wrote a novel about the girl! "Well, she sounds lovely none the less." She grinned, seeing how happy he was talking about her. "Yeah, I'd like that." And, Odette felt like she meant it.

"Awesome, or if it happens here at Hogwarts you can just tell me about it." Humphrey said, smiling. "I do, but I like to stay busy. Sometimes I sit down and relax by the fire too. It is a nice thing to do, catch up with the Gryffindors a bit too." he agreed. That was one nice thing about the common room, you could get a sense of family with your house. "Thanks Odette, I'll do my best. Try not to get injured or anything like that." he said, trying to reassure her.

"Interesting, can't say I've ever met an insomniac before. Do you feel tired during the day?" Humphrey asked, wondering what it would be like not to sleep at all. "She is, I assure you." He grinned back at her, this was a good subject. "Okay, cool, I'll let her know."

"So, you want to go do something? I have some free time to kill, was just reading. Any ideas?" he asked. It would be fun to just go do something, though he wasn't sure what.

Melody walked enjoying the fresh air.While she wasn't at all athelitc she did enjoy the occasional walk.
"Hello,"Melody said as she spotted Humphrey and some girl that she didn't know.Even though they were in different houses,years and classes Melody kept bumping into him.Maybe it really was a small world.

"You know, some days are worse than others. I just feel kind of numb. Like, dream like." Odette brushed back her hair. "Perfect. I'm down for whenever to meet her." Was it bad that Odette was excited about it?

"Well, we can just walk the grounds. Or, I dunno. Maybe go to the quiddich pitch?" Apart from the grounds, Odette loved sitting in the empty quiddich pitch. She heard another someone approach, and her ears turned to the sound. It was a girl, a very small girl. Looked to be a first year. "Hi." Odette waved half heartedly, trying to be friendly.

"I see, interesting. Feeling numb and dream like, cool I guess." Humphrey said, not really knowing what to say. "Awesome. Somehow I have a feeling you are going to make lots of friends, Odette. Not sure why, I just do." She seemed like a really great person, and he had a feeling she would become popular.

"Going to the quidditch pitch could be fun. Normally don't hang out there with nobody else around." He got up, and was about to start walking when he noticed Melody coming towards them. "Oh, hi Melody. Melody, this is Odette Cambry. Odette, this is Melody Lovegood." he spoke up, introducing them.

Odette laughed easily. "Maybe that'll happen, you're right." If Humphrey had a feeling about it, then who knows? Anything happens. Though, she had spent three years practically alone. Yeah, she had friends. But they were older and they moved on with their lives.

Odette had gotten up and brushed herself off. Upon the fact that a girl named Melody came and was with them put a set back on things. No matter, Odette put on a winning smile. "Hi Melody! Nice to meet you as well."

"I'm doing pretty great, just met a cool Gryffindor. That's always good, and am reading a good book at the moment. Not much wrong with that." Humphrey said, smiling at her.
