What lays hidden in the future?

Walking up to professor Darcy her office, Ivan pondered his decision.

He would ask professor Darcy to read his future! Knowledge of the future would give him the power to change it or to make it come true. Or at least he hoped so.

Knocking on professor Darcy her office door, Ivan waited. Hopefuly she was inside!

Darcie heard a knock at her door and she wondered who it might be, perhaps it was Aquila come to talk to her about something that had happened, perhaps there was something wrong with one of the students?!

Now panicking a little, Darcie called;

"Come in!"

And hoped that whoever it was at the door was okay, and that they wouldn't bare bad news, it would be horrible if there was some sort of attack going on in the lower grounds of the Institute.

Hearing the professor her voice, Ivan walked in. Looking at the professor, she seemed somewhat panicky.

"Hello Professor Darcy, I'm here about that offer you made me during my last Dark Arts class. Are you feeling okay professor? You're sweating."

Looking anxiously at his professor, Ivan hoped he hadn't come at a bad time.

Darcie relaxed when she saw that the person knocking at the door was in fact Ivan, he was probably here for the reading that she promised him at the end of their last lesson. With a soft smile on her lips Darcie gestured to one of the bean bags littering the floor and she moved to sit on one also.

"Oh of course of course! Come in and take a seat. I thought that something might be wrong with a student that's all, I'm fine." she reassured with a large smile on her lips.

Looking around the classroom Darcie tried to spot all of the different things that she was going to need; "Have you thought about what you want your future told by? Tea leaves...tarot, it's up to you."

When professor Darcy said that nothing was wrong, Ivan allowed himself to relax as well, and he took a seat.

Looking around, he wondered what method he preferred.

He had always thought tarot cards and the reading of his hand palms the most interesting methods.

But which to choose? He'd just let professor Darcy choose! She was the expert after all!

"Uhm... I can't choose between tarot cards and palm reading professor, could you please pick one of those?"

Darcie smiled gently as Ivan seemed to be having some trouble in choosing which method that he wanted to have his future read to him in, and as he came up with his two options, Darcie smiled, she knew which one was her favourite, and she would do that one.

"Well then I think we will do some tarot card readings." she smiled gently "Now, what area of your future will you want me to look into, love? Money? School? Because it's a lot more specific if we focus on just one area." she asked as she shuffled the deck of tarot cards that she kept in the top drawer of her desk.

Ivan saw the professor her face light up as he mentioned tarot reading, and he knew then that she was going to use that method. He mentally congratulated himself when the professor proved his assumption correct.

When the professor mentioned choosing an aspect of the future, Ivan was stumped again. What to choose?

Love? Bah, he was eleven. There would be time for that in the future.

Money? That would be nice... But his family had enough money.

School? He was doing okay in his classes, so why worry?

Then, Ivan came to his decision.

"Could you like into my future career? After I finish school?" He asked the professor softly.

Ivan had no idea what he would like to become when he grew up, and perhaps this reading would give him a solid goal!

Looking questioningly at professor Darcie, he waited for the answer, which he hoped would be affirmative.

Darcie smiled happily and she couldn't help but feel like that would be the best type of thing to read into for Ivan, after all many students didn't know what they wanted to be when they grew up and now she could tell him so that he wouldn't have to worry.

"Of course I can!" she said with a happy smile on her lips "I think that's a good one to pick, you having trouble picking what you want to do when you grow up?" she asked conversationally.

When she had finished shuffling the cards, Darcie smiled and she asked; "Would you like me to deal from the top, middle or bottom for the deck?"

While she waited for the answer, Darcie wondered what the results would be from the reading, hopefully they would be good for Ivan, and that he would grow up to do something interesting.

Ivan smiled, relieved that his proposal had been accepted. His future career. How exciting!

"Well yes, I don't know what I want to do later, I like Transfiguration a lot, but I also like books and reading a lot. And I don't like plants and loads of other things so I can't really decide!" Ivan exclaimed, excitement obvious.

When the professor asked Ivan if he preferred top, middle or bottom, Ivan immediately knew. As he would grow to the top in his chosen profession, he would choose top now!

"I'd like you to pick from the top of the deck please, professor Darcie."

A fascinated Ivan looked carefully at the deck of cards in professor Darcie her hands. This was the moment of truth!

Darcie smiled gently and she could see that there was a lot of excitement coming from Ivan and she was excited that her art could bring him so much happiness and excitement, for a moment she wondered why he didn;t take her class.

"Top it is!" she grinned and she dealt five cards from the top of the deck, placing them in a line on the floor, and pointing to either end of the cards "Which way would you like me to begin the reading from, the left or the right?"

While she waited for him to answer Darcie placed the cards back up on the table out of the way so that she knew where they are in case he wanted another reading on something else afterwards.

Professor Darcie pulled out five cards and placed them in a row, facing down.

Hearing her question, Ivan automatically responded, "Left please." After all, he read his books from left to right, and books were a major part of his life.

Ivan was anxiously awaiting the turning of the cards. What did his future hold? Riches? Adventure? Succes or Failure?

Darcie smiled gently and she nodded her head, turning over the first card on the left, and she looked at it for a moment before smiling, there could be various meanings to this card and she would only know for sure when she knew the whole of the deck.

"This first card that you have is one of the major arcadia, it is the 'Justice' card, it suggests that you are going to be involved in making important decisions and in relation to work maybe it means you're going to be doing something involved with the Ministry."

When she had given him the reading of that card Darcie's hand hovered over the next one; "You ready for the next one?" she asked kindly.

Hmm... Justice. Decisions, and the Ministry. Important decisions even. That sounded impressive! Will I become a man of great power and influence later? That sounds marvelous!, those were just some of the thoughts flying through Ivan's head.

Biting on his lower lip, Ivan looked to the professor her hovering hand.
"Yes, please turn the next one Professor." Ivan was getting really excited now...

Darcie smiled widely, she could tell that Ivan was getting excited about what she was predicting and she was too because it was really interesting to see what was going to happen in the young boys life ahead, especially considering that it was going to be something so positive.

Turning over the next card Darcie smiled again;

"This card is one of the minor arcadia and it is the ten of pentacles, this card normally has something to do with money and in this case it means that whatever job that you are going to have it is going to be very well paid and you will have a great deal of material wealth."

With a large smile on her lips Darcie placed the card down next to the Justice card; "It's looking good so far!"

Ivan was stunned to hear Professor Darcy explain that the second card was positive as well!

He'd get an important, influential and well-paid job and a powerful position. Ivan started to fear that this couldn't keep up. His good luck could hardly keep up.

Preparing for anything, Ivan looked at professor Darcy and nodded once, he was ready for the next card. Oh boy this was exciting!

Darcie smiled again and she picked up the next card in the line, it was quite an interesting one, seeing as it was inverted, however she read it in line with all of the different cards just to check that it meant what she thought that it was going to mean.

"This card is the three of swords, also known as the Lord of Sorrow card, and this indicates that you might recieve a mental or physical injury as a result of your work, and it also correlates to war or fighting. Perhaps you will persue a position as a Besturmen for the German Ministry?" she suggested.

Waiting to see if Ivan had anything else to say on the matter, Darcie smiled and waited to turn the other card over.

Ivan winced. His first two cards had been too postive, he knew there had to have been something negative coming.

Still, Besturmen or even Head Besturmen sounded pretty good. Protect the innocent and fight the evil ones. He could see himself doing that.

"Perhaps indeed Professor. Or I'll be an assistant who gets overpayed because of a mistake in the accounting department and I'll get hit in the head by a falling ink pot. Would you mind turning the next card."

Ivan realized his attempt at humour hadn't been all that funny, but he tried to distract himself from the option of sustaining severe injuries. He still had that blasted scar on his shoulder. Wasn't that enough?

Darcie hummed to herself and she thought that she was going to be able to predict only good things in Ivan's future but it was something that she knew she could censor for him, that would be very wrong and Ivan deserved to know what was going to happen.

Laughing a little bit when he joked with her Darcie shook her head and smiled gently; "I don't think thats going to happen but you never know."

Turning over the other card, Darcie smiled happily and she placed it on the line next to the other cards that she had turned over, it was quite a positive card to have picked up. Hopefully it would make him feel more comfortable with what was going on in his future.

"This card in relation to work could mean that you in the course of your employment will recieve some monetary or emotional legacies, so you'll most likely do something very memorable in the job that you do!"

Smiling, Ivan nodded. More good fortune. So at least three out of the five cards were positive.

He looked at professor Darcie. Would you mind turning the final card,
Professor?

Darcie smiled gently and she nodded her head when Ivan asked her to turn the final card left in the line, it was going to be a good one, she could just feel it, and she hoped that overall Ivan would be happy with the things that she had predicted in his future.

"This card is called the King of Cups, and it normally relates to a personality, or person that is in your future, maybe this is what your personality will be like in the future?" she mused, before continuing

"A man of business or law, considerate and responsible. He is kind but ambitious and a skilled negotiator. He is a born manipulator, someone who has arrived in a position of power by the use of brain as opposed to brawn. He avoids taking people into his confidence and often works in secret or behind the scenes. He is a seeker of power, with hidden motives, often distrusted or feared by those around him. Is what this card generally focuses on, maybe that's you!"

Running her hand through her hair Darcie asked; "So, how do you think that went?"

Ivan didn't know how to feel about the final card. It sounded very good, but he didn't like the distrusted and feared part all that much. He was a nice person, wasn't he?

Smiling softly, Ivan spoke, "I'm rather pleased professor. I think I'll be ending up in the Ministry indeed. Perhaps one day I can become the Head Besturmen? That's a powerful position which pays well with a chance at getting injured as well. And it sounds like a nice challenge!"

Ivan looked at the professor, he smiled softly. "Thanks a lot for the reading professor. It really cleared some things up for me. I think I'm going to try and let this future become a reality. Thank you for your time. If I can ever return the favour in any way, please let me know."

Darcie smiled happily and she thought that she had managed to do a very good reading for Ivan and she thought that he really did deserve all of the good things that she had predicted about him, maybe she would be wrong, but she highly doubted it.

Hopefully the inversed card wouldn't mean he was hurt that badly, if he was, and Darcie knew of it, she would be deeply upset that her student had been hurt so.

"I think that you are definately going to be one of the besturmen, and probably the head in time, is that something that you were thinking of before the reading?" she asked with a happy smile.

Tilting her head to one side Darcie beamed and she shook her head; "You just attend my lessons and that's all the thank you I would ever need Ivan, you're a wonderful student, I'm just glad to help."

Ivan smiled happily when professor Darcie confirmed his idea of becoming a besturmen.

"Thank you professor, I was thinking about it, but I was considering a lot of things. This sounds good though, so I´m pretty happy."

Ivan felt a bit guilty when professor Darcie mentioned following her lessons.

"Well, I didn't really sign up for Soothsaying. I don't have any talent at all, my aunt had me tested you see. But I always do my best during Dark Arts!"

Ivan blushed when he heard professor Darcie say that he was a wonderful student. She was so kind!

Darcie smiled happily and she was glad that Ivan was pleased with what she had done in terms of the reading, after all she would be very unhappy if she had predicted something that he wasn't interested in at all, and he felt that he was obliged to do it.

"Oh I'm so glad, it sounds like a wonderful career, and I'm glad that it was something that you were considering in the first place, the Ministry will be proud to have you." she beamed.

Nodding her head Darcie grinned "I know you will, you've done excellently so far and it's just amazing the way that you can answer so many questions correctly, I'm very proud of your progress."

Ivan blushed madly at the praise from professor Darcy. With a shy smile, he spoke, "I hope they will be. I hope I can be proud of myself, I find that a bit more important honestly." Ivan blushed again.

Ivan smiled when the professor mentioned his class performance.

"I do my best. Thank you, it means a lot to me. Now, I was planning on doing some studying. Might I be excused?" Ivan didn't want to be rude, but he did have a study schedule he tried to follow.
