Standing High (Nick and Char)

Nick wobbled a little bit as he stood on top of the stone jotting out of the Black Lake. He was trying to see if his spell to make people's feet stick to objects was working. It was more like a modification on an existing charm but that was just needless details. The fact was he was starting to make his dream come true!

He grinned, and with full confidence in his ability, stepped onto the side of the rock. Nick grinned wider when he stayed standing on the side of the rock for a second before the charm failed and he fell in the cold water. He pulled himself out, spluttering and wet, before laughing,

"Well... back to the drawing board!"

Charlotte had been walking through the grounds of Hogwarts and she had been enjoying the lovely sunny weather, hoping to take a nice dip in the Black Lake, she had worn her shorts so that she could sit in the lake and have a small paddle before she had to go back up to the castle for dinner.

Hearing a loud splash, she hurried even faster to the lake just in time to see a boy crawling out of the lake, and she hurried over to him, wondering if he was okay, or if he had fallen into the water because someone had pushed him or something.

"Are you okay?!" she asked in a concerned tone "Did you hurt yourself on your way down?"

Nick blinked a little bit when someone seemed to come haring after him to see if he was alright. He chuckled sheepishly as he pulled himself to his feet, still absolutely dripping wet,

"I'm alright, it's okay the water broke my fall." he told her with a nervous little laugh and light blush, "Wow this is kind of embarassing..."

Shaking his head, he dried his clothes with a charm and paused as he sat down on one of the rocks on the coast. He smiled at Charlotte,

"Hey I know you..." he paused before clicking his fingers, "Charlotte right? Everyone says you're really nice! I'm Nick."

Charlotte smiled in a relieved way when the boy told her that he was okay, she wouldn't know what to do if he was hurt, she didn't know many healing spells, in fact, she didn't know any healing spells at all! Maybe that was something she should work on...

"Awwww don't be embarrassed, I'm just glad that you're okay, and now that you're dry, nobody would know it happened in the first place." Charlotte reassured "And I know how to keep a good secret." she grinned.

Blinking a little, and letting her cheeks flush a little when the boy told her that everyone said that she was nice, Charlotte couldn't help but smile shyly;

"They do? Well, I'm glad that they think so! I hope that I'm nice enough for most people, but yes I'm Charlotte Smith, who are you?" she asked politely, sitting down at the shore of the lake.

Nick had to admit that being found after one of his first spells had gone wrong was not a very good feeling. He coughed awkwardly as he tried, and failed, to keep from blushing at having been seen to fail. Then again she didn't know what had happened,

"Well I'm glad that's the case because you know how fast the rumour mill is around here! It would go from me being wet to me being eaten by the giant squid in a day." he joked nervously as he pulled his nerves under control, "Can I ask you to keep this a secret then? I'd like to only show people when the spell is done."

Nick grinned. He had been telling the truth, Charlotte Smith was known throughout the school for a number of reasons. The most important one though was that she was the nicest Slytherin in the last 100 years,

"Yeah people say you're the nicest Slytherin in the last century." he told her before chuckling, "I said it before but I guess I do speak rather quick. My name's Nicholas Jiggins. You can call me Nick if you like."

Charlotte laughed a little bit when Nick said that the rumour mill around Hogwarts was fast spreading, that certainly was true she had experienced that all to well when it had come to the arguments between her and Pyxis, and her and Humphrey.

"Oh yes I know that only too well from past experiences." she smiled gently before nodding her head "I promise to not tell anyone about this, but, are you trying to craft a spell? Already?"

Blushing even more, Charlotte ran her hands through her hair and she kicked off her shoes and she placed her feet in the cool calm water of the Black Lake, wondering if the Giant Squid would come and say hello at the top of the lake.

"Well...I'm not sure about that." she smiled "Well you could be any number of Nicks you know, but now I know you are the one and only Nicholas Jiggins!" Charlotte laughed lightly.

Nick counted himself lucky that so far the only thing the rumour mill had caught about him was his oh-so-amusing last name. Apparently some of the muggleborns and half-bloods had seen it referenced in a youtube video. He grinned a little bit,

"Well you've come out nice from your encounters with it. Rumours about you now are about how unbelievably nice you are!" he told her before looking a bit sheepish, "It's more like modifying an existing charm to work outside it's regular parameters but... yes I guess I am!"

Seeing that this new Slytherin seemed to like his attitude, he had to wonder if she'd been miss-sorted. She seemed kind and honest enough to be a Hufflepuff or something,

"Well you don't have to be. The rumour mill does." he teased her before groaning a little bit, "Please don't tell me the rumour mill has made me famous because of my funny last name..."

Charlotte smiled happily and she was glad that she was thought of in such high regard by all of the students in the school. true she was one of the oldest students in the school now and she needed to be able to be a rolemodel for the school.

"Wow that sounds really complicated." she smiled gently "I would love to be able to craft spells like that, apparently my Grandpapa is really good at doing that."

Blinking a little bit Charlotte shook her head and she giggled a little bit and she didn't even think that his last name was something that was very silly in the first place, it was quite sweet she thought, made her think of friendly people.

"No no, I thought that it was quite a sweet last name actually, and I have a friend with the last name Jeeves so, they're both kind of odd. More interesting than 'Smith' though."

Nick had to admit that having met Charlotte in person the rumours made an awful lot more sense. They all spoke about how she seemed too good to be true, too nice, but what surprised everyone was that her being nice was completely genuine,

"I think I just worded it strange that's all. Modifying the sticking charm to stick a person's feet to any surface. Walk up walls and all that." he told her with a grin before smiling, "You got one in your family too huh? My mother is a spell-crafter."

When she giggled at him he could help but chuckle, thinking she too was laughing at his rather silly last name. When she told him that it was a sweet last name he grinned a little bit wider,

"You really think so? Most people just laugh at it." he admitted before chuckling, "Jeeves is a nice name though. So is Smith. Do you not like being a Smith, Charlotte?"

Charlotte smiled gently and she wondered if she would be able to learn how to craft spells, she didn't think that she was going to have time to learn how to do that, purely because she had so many other things to think of already, such as her art and whatever her Papa was teaching her.

"Well technically he's not related to me, but he is my Grandpapa, he's very kind, he's lovely, maybe you will be able to meet him some day." she spoke more to herself than anything "That spell could be really fun to use, hows it going so far?"

When he asked her if she didn't like being a Smith, Charlotte gasped and shook her head a little bit;

"No no no I just meant that it's a really common last name that's all, lots of people in Britain has it." she smiled gently "How are you finding Hogwarts then Nick, what classes did you take?"
