Some Help (Bri and Cobe)

[Briony Romain]

Briony felt like the whole of the school was falling down around her ears and it needed to be strong now more than ever before, so she decided to go and seek out the only other professor in the school she actually liked and she wondered if he would be up for a little conversation, her husband was wonderful but a fresh mind would be needed.

Knocking briefly on the door Briony waited behind it patiently waiting to be let into this mans office and she smirked to herself, an idea.

Cobalt was making himself some coffee in his office, with the help of a very useful spell he'd picked up a couple of years ago, when he heard a light knock at his door. Wondering who it could be, Cobalt set his cup down on his desk and opened the door. When he opened the door he smiled widely at the headmistress, putting his wand back into it's hidden holster,

"Headmistress!" he greeted her happily, "What a pleasant surprise! What do I ow the pleasure?"

Briony smiled that signature grin again and she moved into the room when Cobalt opened the door in a signal for her to enter and to make herself comfortable, or so she thought. Reaching into her coat she pulled out some firewhiskey and wiggled the bottle in the air.

"Hello there, I wondered if you would like some company on this rather lonely night? And I bring offerings of alcohol..."

Grinning she took off her coat and tossed it onto a cost stand, it exposed her velvet dress that reached to the floor, looking slightly medieval in origin.

"And I came to ask you something."

Cobalt yawned slightly as he let Briony come into his office, closing the door behind her and double locking the door's six, magic resistant, locks. He grinned at the bottle of firewhiskey, even if it was almost impossible to get him drunk,

"Why thank you Headmistress, you are most kind." he replied with a smirk as he sat down behind his desk, "Once Char is in bed there's not a lot for me to do but sit alone and mark work and stuff like that after all. This will be a much needed change."

Cobalt rolled his neck to work the crinks out of it as Briony took her coat off. He sighed when the muscle in his shoulder twitched,

"God I need a long bath..." he blinked a few times before smiling, "Sure, what do you need my help with Headmistress? Or is it Briony in here?"

Briony raised her eyes at the sheer amount of locks that Cobalt had on his door, she didn't even have that many and wondered why this might be, not that she felt threatened at all, he was a good man and wasn't about to go and do anything stupid towards her.

"Oh, how is she? She didn't take my class I don't think."

Smiling a little Briony waved her wand and two glasses appeared, pouring the whiskey into them she smirked and held it aloft to Cobalt.

"Let's drink."

With a small sigh Briony sat down on a chair opposite Cobalts and she looked, altogether quiet serious for a moment, no trace of malice in her eyes, and she looked weary, but then Briony straightened up.

"I need your help to train up our students. To make them the best incinerators they can be. And soon."

Cobalt finished locking, unlocking and relocking the door to his office with a small sigh. One of these days he was really going to have to stop that. It was a pattern and patterns got people killed in his line of work. He smiled a little bit more,

"Char?" he paused for a second before smiling faintly, "We've had some problems recently but I think everything is working out for us at home. She mentioned something about some bullying but I trust her to deal with that, like she said I should."

Cobalt took the glass that was offered to him happily and held it up against hers in a toast,

"I'll drink to that!" he replied with a grin as he emptied the glass, "Best toast ever, that."

Seeing her turn serious, Cobalt did the same. His training as an assassin meaning that the change was literally instant. A smiling face one second and a carefully neutral one the next. He took the liberty of pouring them new drinks,

"Well Briony... I think what we need to do is give them a push." he told her honestly, "A man doesn't run as fast as he can until someone is chasing him after all. Perhaps..."

He paused and shook his head,

"No, that idea might just be too extreme."

Another raising of the eyebrow, bullying in her school? How could there be such a thing and it not have been brought to her attention? Surely ome of the staff, but there we go, it's the staff that is the problem here, they were altogether useless.

"I will ensure to have that looked into, for other students sake but your daughters of course, it's the fault of my idiotic staff I haven't detected it sooner."

The last thing Briony wanted to do now was think of things like this, she wanted to sleep and she wanted to sleep right this second, shed not had a break in Merlin knows how long Because of all this subbing and it was doing her head in.

"No no, do tell me your idea, I think that sometimes extreme measures are needed. I was often thinking about exposing them to the danger of the German threat...but my idea is risky...a lot of people could be hurt."

Cobalt smiled faintly. Briony was a Headmistress who cared and that was a refreshing thing in a world where battle-capable was the only objective of teachers. He sighed a little bit and rubbed the bridge of his nose,

"I wouldn't even have been aware of it if Charlotte hadn't let it slip." he replied quietly, "Of course I asked Richard about it. He's been doing an investigation into the slytherin house but if it is outside of slytherin house his powers are much more limited than your own. I would appreciate any help you could give."

He knew that Briony and Richard had been doing a lot of subbing recently and he sighed a little bit before sliding the coffee across his desk closer to her,

"I think you might need this." he smiled faintly, "That was my idea as well. However I would simulate the danger, with professors of your choosing acting as the germans."

Briony nodded, she knew now that the while school needed something to reform it, she needed to show the students that this wasn't a game and that they needed to wake up and she needed to do it fast before they got even worse than they were now.

"Well, I too hope that my influence will do some good, what is the nature of their remarks? What are they bullying children about?"

As the coffee was pushed towards her Briony chuckled shrewdly and she sipped it, it didn't do much for her at this moment in time, although she wished that it would, she needed caffeine more than anything.

"I reckon I'm going to need more than that."

Briony smirked and nodded her head, bridging her fingers together and she nodded at Cobalts idea it was exactly what she had been thinking of doing, only, with a little help from her friend, that was in fact a German but a useful one.

"I can go one better, I shall provide an actual attack from a German and I was thinking of leaving the students to it..."

Cobalt shrugged helplessly. He had almost no idea what they were bullying Charlotte about, he'd only been able to get a few things out of her after all. Taking another drink he frowned,

"What is it always about?" he asked in return, "Anything different from the norm. As a metamorph Charlotte can be anyone. But she chooses to be who she is and who she is, is different. They might resent her for that."

He smiled a little bit when she took a drink of the coffee. It was good coffee, he knew, but it would probably take much more than that to get Briony back to her 'chipper' self again. He chuckled a little bit,

"Is that why you're using alcohol?" he noted with a smirk, "Hoping the burning sensation will wake you up?"

He saw the thoughtful look she had on her face and immediately he began to go through ways to test the students in his mind. It would have to be big after all. He raised an eyebrow at her suggestion,

"I'm guessing it would only be a small one. Don't want the school destroyed after all."

Briony nodded, she of course knew of Charlotte's ability and the fact that the girl still chose to look the way she did which in her opinion was rather beautiful, yet to others more strange than allowed, was a true show of strength and she commended the girl for it.

"Yes, of course, it always is about the strong picking on the weak, or so it would seem, as the bullies themselves are often more weak."

With a small chuckle Briony shook her head, that was not the reason that she was using alcohol at all, in fact it was quite the opposite.

"No no no, I'm using alcohol so that I might drop off better, it will make me forget about all the work that I haven't done and all the worries about these idiotic professors all beinf off or ill at the same time, it really is no good."

Sighing Briony nodded her head, a slow wicked grin appearing on her lips, Raven was perfect for this job, but she would probably get a little out of hand seeing as last time she was here she gutted a Hufflepuff.

"Oh yes, quite small, just the one person, but she's a little odd. You might have heard of her, Raven Drake. Or 'The Sweeney'."

Cobalt knew how cruel kids could be to someone who was 'different' and his daughter was definately different. It made her so uniquely wonderful but others would not see her that way. As far as he was concerned they could all rot in hell but Charlotte seemed to care,

"Yes... more so in Slytherin house." he agreed sadly, "With the strong openly using their strength against those they perceive to be weaker."

He chuckled a little along side her, alcohol did have the effect of making people drowsy after all so it was not an unrealistic goal,

"Yes that sounds like a series of problems that only alcohol can help with to be fair." he paused, before smirking, "That or liberal usage of the Unforgivables on those responsible for your troubles. Or so I'm told. I myself would never use those curses..."

Cobalt raised an eyebrow but otherwise didn't visibly react. Internally however, he was going through a series of scenarios in his mind on how to contain such an opponent if it got out of hand,

"Yes... yes The Sweeney would be a good choice to scare them witless." he paused for a second, "We will need to make sure that she can be contained if she goes too far."

Briony pursed her lips slightly and frowned, there was very little that she could do right now apart from think of how best to work with her husband in order to contain and punish these bullies should anything like that need to be done.

"Slytherin house is known for rearing bullies, but their sense of honour to their house mates has always been true..."

The idea that Cobalt conjoured up was one that she was open to, however it wasn't going to happen since as she was angry at her staff who had all seemed to mysteriously dissappeared in the night or something.

Hopefully they were with some Germans having some 'fun'.

"Of course not Cobalt, you're far too wise for that rash an action." Briony smirked in return

Nodding her head Briony took another sip of her drink and knew that if she told Raven not to do something she would do her best to adhere to what she told her not to do, they were friends after all, used to be more.

"I can contain her perfectly well. We're friends, after all."

Cobalt shrugged a little bit. When he had gone to school in was Slytherin against the school, true, but within the house there had always been rivalries and alike,

"Well all we can do is fight it when we find it." he said quietly, "And we can show them why it should be Slytherin against the world. Not Slytherin against Slytherin."

Cobalt grinned as she caught onto his teasing. Of course he would have had no problem killing every member of staff she had a problem with if she paid him for it. It was his job after all,

"Of course not!" he grinned back before chuckling, "I've always been more of a calm and premeditated kind of guy. Elaborately planned traps and stuff. Like a giant game of mousetrap."

Cobalt read her body language and raised an eyebrow. There seemed to be some history between the two but it was not Cobalt's place to pry. He merely smiled,

"Well that's good." he replied before coughing a little, slightly sheepish, "Wouldn't want to pull her spine out if she's your friend."

Briony knew that Cobalt was a very talented wet boy and she was tempted to send him after some of the people who had let her down personally, using her school funds to do so too, but she didn't, after all that would lead to some very bad questions from the Ministry.

"Yes I know you have and it's something about you that I appreciate, after all if you want something doing you've got to do it well."

With a raised eyebrow Briony looked over Cobalt as he coughed, the idea of him ripping Raven's spine out was not a very happy or amusing thought to entertain her with. Briony didn't know but could assume that she was glaring at him.

"I would appreciate it if you didn't do that Cobalt."

Smiling softly to break the stare Briony bit her lip and sipped at the coffee.

"After all, I think that's a little too harsh for a break up revenge. Even if I did break up with her."

Cobalt nodded in agreement. If something had to be done you do it with one spell rather than ten. If something was going to cost you, you made it cost one galleon instead of ten. He smiled a little bit,

"Why thank you." he replied happily, "I do try to keep my work as best as it can be. Times are tough after all. I've got a lot of work now."

He chuckled weakly, sheepishly, when she glared at him. It had obviously been a bit out of place to tell her what his back up plan was. But in his opinion it was better to ask forgiveness than permission,

"Well it's only ever a last resort." he told her quietly, "It's really rather tricky to do and I prefer not doing it."

Cobalt raised both eyebrows in surprise,

"An ex huh?" he chuckled, "She take it badly or something?"

Briony nodded and looked at Cobalt over the top of her glass, wondering about Charlottes own knowledge about what her father was doing, but then decided that it was none of her business what they did.

"I too am feeling the strain, too many contracts have been taken out for me to keep up with them and my duties of Headmistress."

Although that she would never tell Richard Briony had begun to feel sick with overworking herself too much, and thus taken solace in smoking to keep her moods up for the most part. Patting her pockets she found a cigarette and lit it, taking a long drag.

"I see." she purred through the smoke

With a small chuckle Briony nodded, Raven had not taken it well at all, and she was still feeling the strain from it.

"Oh yeah, she took it very, vert badly."
