Adventure (Elliot & Rhian)

Elliot was excited and nervous at the same time. He wanted to impress her, wanting her to think about how to make this date memorable. Wait, was it a date? He didn't really know, he didn't want to scare her off as it was, when he spoke to her about another outing.

He hoped she wouldn't take it as a insult as he only wore a pair of jeans and a jumper, it wasn't really something appropriate for a date, but it was if you were off flying. He loved flying and he wanted to keep warm as the fast paced day occurred.

Now he simply waited, hoping she'd show it. He hoped he hadn't scared her off.

Rhian worried at her lip as she walked through the woods. She'd never been here before, so had to use Floo to get to a small pub nearby and walk out to the lake. She really didn't mind though. The woods were always soothing to her, so it calmed her nerves about seeing Elliot again.

As she walked through the last of the trees, she spotted him down by the lake. She had to stop herself for a few seconds to take in the scenery. It was amazing! The mountains reflected perfectly off the lake and she could hear so many birds singing in the trees. Something inside of her relaxed at the atmosphere.

Seeing Elliot dressed so comfortable, she smiled. She figured if he was teaching her about a sport, dressy clothes would have been a bad call. She was similarly dressed in jeans with a zip up jacket. It was getting warmer the closer to summer, but she always dressed in layers, usually feeling cold.

She walked over to him, feeling her nerves rise up a little. Smiling at him shyly, she sighed. "Hi."

Elliot heard footsteps coming his way, but he was just staring out at the scenery. When he was younger he remembered how his mother and him would fly through the area and looking at the scenery above them. This is where he learned how to fly, before Hogwarts, before playing Quidditch, before anything.

Hearing her greet him he turned around and let out a bright smile, glad that she came. He wondered why she was so shy around him still, but he didn't put anything against her, instead he dimmed his smile to a more demure one.

"Hey, glad that you came"

Rhian mentally scolded herself. She was getting in her own way...again! She'd been trying, since moving in with Aria, to let her guard down. And she especially wanted to do so with Elliot.

Bracing herself for any reaction, since she wasn't good at talking to new people, she stepped closer and touched his forearm gently. "Please...don't stop smiling." She bit her lip, knowing that was weird to say. "I...I like your smile."

She let his arm go, but didn't give up the space she'd claimed. It was a bold move for her and she was determined to stand her ground, hoping it wasn't too awkward. Hell, she didn't even know the guy, really. Maybe he was simply a nice guy who needed something to do on a Saturday morning.

Crossing one arm in front of her, gripping at her elbow. "I am too," she smiled genuinely. She was confused a little, though. "Do we need nets or something? Or...I don't know...bats?"

Elliot's eyed widened as she touched him lightly. That was surprising especially as it came from the skittish woman before him. He chuckled and patted her hand before she let go of him.

"I'll try to keep that in mind?" he replied confused.

He didn't really want to push it, though it was a bit quirky, he didn't really take it against her. At least he was approached for a second, if only a second. That was a good sign as his mother always said If they laugh at your jokes, or touch you in a light manner it means they like you

He laughed softly and shook his head at her comment.

"Not to be rude, but I wouldn't give a bat to someone that doesn't know how to play yet" he said with a wink.

Bending down he grabbed the broom and lifted it to her.

"You've flown before right?" he asked curiously.

Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Rhian tried not to show the disappointment on her face. Not at him, of course. Elliot had done nothing wrong. But she knew it was moments like this that caused her to pull back from people. Her family had been strict, her only loving relationship being with her little sister.

Trying to recover her happy mood, she felt her face flush at his playful wink. She was about to comment when he moved to hand a broom to her. Confused as all get out, she took it gently, holding it away from her body.

Flown? Sure, she'd seen planes before. But she always thought it a weird way to travel. She much preferred Apparation or Floo, though it made her queasy at times. But...what did it have to do with a broom.

Her brow furrowed in as she looked up at him. "How does a cleaning implement and muggle travel play into a wizarding game?"

Elliot froze for a second at her question. Did she really just? He forced himself to hide his disappointment at her comment. Something that he loved so much, that brought him freedom, she had no idea about. He forced himself not to sigh and he ran his fingers through his hair instead.

"Well...we fly on these you know" he commented.

He straddled his broom and began to hover showing her how he wasn't playing. Merlin she was missing out on a lot, it was a bit sad really.

Rhian's eyes widened as something in Elliot changed. She found that, unlike Aria, she may be awkward as hell, but she could read people. It had been the only way to live with her parents. She imagined she'd be a different person if she hadn't picked up on the very subtle signs that they'd actually loved her and Elena, in their own way.

Her jaw dropped open at the very idea...Fly!? On a BROOM?!!? A small voice inside of her giggled, deciding that's where the old legends came from. But the majority of her was simply...dumbfounded.

As Elliot hovered only a foot or so off the ground, Rhian could feel her mind whirring with thoughts and emotions. This is what he does for a living. It will be okay. It won't kill you....probably...maybe... She could feel her body vibrating with adrenaline at the idea of doing something so daring.

Her eyes bright, he bit at her lip, looking him straight in the eyes. "Can you teach me?"

His disappointment soon turned to glee at the thought that she wasn't frightened. He expected her to reject his plan and instead wanting something so conventionally normal. He lowered himself and hopped off the broom as if it was nothing.

He took the broom from her hand and placed it on the ground on her right side. Walking in front of her, he felt like a Hogwarts professor for a second.

"Just look down and call up in a firm manner. Your broom should lift itself to your hand and then you can straddle it and jump up to let it fly. It's fun!"

Rhian smiled at the ease with which Elliot handled himself on the broom. It was like he was born with it. So many questions were burning through her mind, but she shoved them aside, wanting to remember this.

As she looked down at the slim piece of wood in the grass, she had to take a few calming breaths. Magic does not come to the hurried, dear, she could hear her mother saying. Something about the triggered memory of her lessons cleared her mind instantly, letting her worries fade away and her magic core come to life.

She let out a small smirk and said softly, "Up." The broom moved swiftly into her hand, but not so hard that she couldn't handle it. It knew who was in control.

Swinging one leg over, she could feel an invisible cushion supporting her weight. She grinned widely over at Elliot. "Like that?"

She was a quick learner, Elliot though with a sense of joy. She was a novice that much was obvious, but she tried and that's all that mattered. At her question he nodded and clapped his hands to show how impressed he was.

"Good, now do as I told you, straddle your broom" he explained as he did this himself, then jump up and you'll be up in the sky!"

He kicked off the ground and flew twenty feet over the pair.

Rhian grinned ecstatically at Elliot's reaction. Sure, it was wonderful learning something new, as usual. But something about him teaching her, and being able to make him happy, made her stomach feel like it wasn't held down by gravity anymore.

She watched him soar effortlessly into the air. The logical part of her tried to take in as much information as possible: the angle of the broom, the amount of force he used to push off the ground, where he was focused. She tried to ignore his devilishly wicked grin, and the light in his eyes, and...But that all flew out of her mind when it came to her turn.

Shaking her head to focus again, she took a firm grip on the handle. She bent her knees to get some pressure under her and softly pushed up. It didn't take much before she felt like her stomach was dropping out from under her, like it did in elevators. She felt her balance wavering a little and leaned to keep herself centered. The adrenaline coursed through her veins.

As she came nearer to Elliot's height, her balance shifted and she bumped into him. "Sorry!" She instinctively moved her hand over her mouth in shock, only to tilt even more.

Elliot was enjoying soaring through the sky. He closed his eyes as the wind hit his face straight on, it was chilly but he wouldn't have it any other way. Gripping the broom tightly with his legs he let go for a second to simply soar straightly. Gripping the broom once more he tilted down to get a better look at Rhian as she tried to compose herself.

She was flying up, but she was gripping it too tightly, he winced seeing her knuckles being so white. What he wasn't expecting was to be knocked back. Her hitting his broom made him be off balance and down he went. The broom losing it's steady angle and Elliot not paying attention was not a good combination. Chaser reflexes immediately hit and he gripped his broom tightly and pulled trying to pull up before they reached the ground. As he did, he let out a sigh in relief only to see her moving her broom in another awkward angle.

"Calm down I'm good" he said out of breath. He placed himself beside her to avoid being hit once more and tentatively gripped the front of her broom to give her the proper standing. "There we go" he whispered near her.

Rhian felt electrical shocks running along her skin. It was exhilarating and frightening at the same time to be hovering so far off the ground. And her shaky equilibrium made her hyper aware of everything. Every move, every breath.

A chill ran down her spine as she realized how close Elliot was. She couldn't tell which emotions were caused by the flying, and which were caused by him. Her throat dry, she slowly moved her hand over his gripping her broom. To help her steady, she told herself.

"Thanks." She could feel her blush returning. She'd never had the chance to learn to fly when she was younger. She knew it was late to learn, but she appreciated him trying.

Elliot was oblivious to her reaction to him, he wanted her to just be safe as they were in the air. Her nervousness just made him more tense than anything. Still once he saw her clutching tightly he knew they were fine.

He flew a few feet away and moved so she could see him. He figured her blush was from hitting him, so he just waved it off.

"So if you move your body forward, you speed up, if you pull up you will go higher, down...well it's pretty simple" he chuckled. "Come on, look around you"

He flew forward hoping she'd follow. The sun shined over the lake beautifully, if only she'd look down to notice the beauty around her.

Rhian let out a small sigh. She knew she had no experience with boys what so ever, but jeez. Was her mind playing tricks on her? It must be. Because she was obviously the only on affected by her and Elliot's close proximity.

As he flew away from her, she tried to push those thoughts away. She wanted to enjoy today, no matter what. She listened and watched him carefully as he flew off. Before she tried to go after him, though, she did take a moment to look around.

And she felt like her heart might burst at the sight. Spring was in full swing and the colors were fantastic. The water was still as glass, reflecting the mountains and the forest surrounding them. She'd appreciated it's beauty with her walk to the lake, but it was simply...magical from up here.

Tearing her gaze away from the landscape, she couldn't help the swell of emotions making her eyes sting with happy tears. She thanked Merlin that they didn't fall, though, so she didn't make a bloody fool of herself.

Slowly, she moved the way Elliot showed her, so that she fell in stride behind him, mimicking his movements.

Looking back, Elliot let a slow smile appear on his face as he looked at her. The sun shined brightly behind her giving her a glow and he was glad that she was experiencing something so wonderful and meaningful with him.

He flew to be near her and spun around her with a grin before flying beside her. She looked nervous, but she was noticing the beauty and that's all that matters.

"This is what I wanted to show you" he whispered and tentatively pried her hand from the broomstick to hold hers. "Isn't it great?"

Rhian let her smile mirror Elliot's as he literally flew circles around her. She wondered if every loved flying as much as he did. If she'd known, maybe she would have attended a game or two at Hogwarts. But she'd been too focused on catching up to the rest of her class to spend time on things like that.

Her heart sped up when he took her hand. This time she knew it wasn't because of the flying. It was the look in his eyes. It clouded her mind with questions.

Opting to be honest, she nodded. "It's wonderful!" She was surprised how warm his hand was.

Elliot smiled and raised her hand to kiss it. He didn't want to push, he didn't want to mess up. Had she been less shy, he didn't think he could really show her all of this. He was used to girls clinging, asking for autographs, but with her, he was just some regular bloke who taught her how to fly.

He felt his cheeks warm up a bit, but he ignored it, instead he kissed her hand once more before letting her take grip of her broom again.

"Come on, I'll race you to the original spot" he said before turning and flying off.

Rhian felt like the wind had been knocked out of her. She hadn't expected the kiss, as innocent as it was. She knew she probably looked like a right fool with her mouth slightly open, her eyes wide. But she couldn't help it, she'd never felt this way before.

She saw something interesting flit across Elliot's gaze, but she was concentrating too hard on trying to breathe again to even begin to analyze it. As he kissed her hand again and let go, she felt like he'd taken his warm with him. Her heart twinged at the lost as her mind tried to take control again.

After a second, his challenge sunk in. She shook her head and tried to focus on flying again. Taking hold of the broom, she tried a steady, slow speed at first, trying to simply stay on a solid course. When it went well, she added more speed, not getting too crazy just yet.

He obviously beat her to where they'd started, but she didn't mind. Taking after his moves, she slowed down as she reached the ground and set down with only the smallest of wavering. She could feel the grin on her face closing in on manic, but she couldn't help it. That had been the most exhilarating feeling in her life!

Elliot smoothly landed on the ground and leaned against his broom as he waited for Rhian to land. He tilted his head staring at her concentrating, it was charming.

As she landed he noticed her grin and he immediately matched hers. Walking towards her he stopped a foot away wondering exactly what to say. But before he could think it out he murmured.

"Thanks for being here with me"

And he meant it, he wanted to be closer, to really hold her but...he was scared of scaring her. He tentatively grabbed her free hand and moved closer as he looked down at her shorter frame.

"Did you enjoy it?" he whispered

Rhian felt her breath hitch as he came closer. She felt like she was drowning in his deep brown eyes. When he spoke, she couldn't help but reply honestly. "There's no where else I'd rather be."

It was true. She hadn't found any success yet in securing a job, though it had only been a week. And she was happy to reconnect with Aria, but she was so busy lately with work that they were often like ships passing in the night. All of that, combined with the way he made her feel...she couldn't imagine a better Saturday afternoon.

When he took her hand again she looked down at them, trying not to shake. She felt vulnerable. To a point where she hadn't been in a long time. She'd never taken a chance on a guy before, always having something more pressing to worry about, thinking there would be time 'later'. But 'later' hadn't come yet.

Trying to stay in the moment, she looked up at Elliot. "I loved it," she told him honestly. As she was around him more, she felt less and less anxious. "Thank you."

Elliot let out a dashing smile and wondered if he should do this. She looked so happy, and he felt some pride at the fact that she was there with him, and enjoying it as well. But his smile lessened as he felt her shake, was he too close?

He wanted to be bold but not at her expense. So after he heard her whisper thank you, he smiled and did what he thought was best, he leaned down and kissed the corner of her mouth before whispering.

"You're welcome"

Rhian's eyes fluttered close as Elliot kissed her. She felt overwhelmed by the moment. His smell, his aura. It was intoxicating and heady in it's newness. Sure, she'd seen people kiss loads of times, especially in school, but she never was brave enough to cross that line. She didn't let people get that close.

She gripped her broom for balance, so she didn't topple over and make a fool of herself. As he pulled away, her opposing halves were delighting in the kiss while wanting more all at once. While a small part worried why he'd pulled away.

Looking back up at him, she tried to let her walls down. It was hard, since only people really knew her, but she wanted to. Slowly she linked her fingers through his where their hands joined.

"It's still early, what else is there to do on a Saturday?" She really didn't give two Galleons what they did, so long as she didn't have to leave him just yet.

Elliot looked down at their hands as she gripped it, and felt real delight as he realized that she was actually enjoying his move. He pressed her forehead against hers and sighed.

It was intimate, it was innocent and it was comforting. Three things that were new to him when it really came to women. And he liked it. While he hadn't kissed her lips full on, he wondered if she'd protest him doing it.

"We can have a picnic" he suggested to her.
