After Classes

She smiled leading Alice towards the Black Lake. She knew that Alice was excited about probably finding a mermaid. She knew that mermaids would sound horrible on the surface, but underwater, they were gorgeous singers.

"Come on! We're almost there!" she said smiling brightly.

"I cannot wait to go exploring these grounds! Thanks for suggesting that we come out here." Alice quickly followed the Slytherin. "It's so beautiful out here and there is so much room. I haven't seen this much nature since we left Ireland." She smiled over the acres of open land.

"How are your dormmates?" Alice pondered, picking up conversation.

She winced slightly at the question, so she tried to avoid it a bit.

"I got this idea because the Slytherin dorms are directly under the Black Lake" she commented.

Avoiding a puddle of mud she kept going.

"It's...alright I suppose?" she said uncomfortably.

"That must be an incredible view." Alice answered, sensing Tess' uneasiness. She watched as the girl gently went around a puddle of mud. "I haven't spent much time in my room. Haven't really met my roommates yet." She replied.

"Do you have three roommates as well?" She questioned. "And Tess, if you ever need to talk about anything I'm always open to listening. You're my friend after all." She said gently.

She smiled being called her friend. She figured she'd listen so as they reached the shore, she picked up a rock and threw it to skip it. As it sunk she shrugged.

"Well...some people in Slytherin are really nice you know? There's this girl named Charlotte, I think her dad's a professor, well she's nice, and so is Pxyis, another girl there. I don't know much about Tabi, she's in our class by the way, but she's not that bad. Though I have to say, I caused some trouble in my dorm."

She picked up another rock and threw it once again.

"I am so stupid" she said groaning. "I asked their opinions on muggles and well....it got nasty there"

Her eyes dimmed and she looked back at her.

Alice was glad that Tess was opening up to her. She listened as the brunette told her what was going on in the dorm.

However, Alice had to wince when Tess called herself stupid. She watched as the girl skipped the stones across the still surface of the lake. She just listened. When Tess paused, Alice murmured.

"You're not stupid. It was most likely an innocent mistake," She placed a hand on the girl's shoulder. "And it seems Muggles are always going to be a touchy subject. What happened?"

She sighed but smiled gratefully towards Alice, she was glad she understood.

"I feel stupid because we were doing just fine, but, I goofed. I told them that I thought muggles were decent people, just oblivious to magic around them." she began "Others also shared their own ideas such as that they were told that muggles were beneath them but they were fine with them as long as they stayed away from magic, Pxyis was already a little riled up, but it got even more tense."

She sat down by a tree's roots and looked out towards the lake.

"Corinne Girard, from a French pure-blood family...well she brought the house down with her opinion. That muggles were insignificant and that no one in their right mind would socialize with muggles....well Pxyis didn't take that well"

She looked up at her and sighed.

"Then the tension was unbearable to say the least."

"Hmmm, I suppose that would cause a lot of tension." Alice agreed. "Though, don't blame yourself for it. It seems that Corinne needs to possibly walk a mile in someone else's shoes. Or at least have a taste of a knuckle sandwich before she is certain how she feels about Muggles. Has she ever really met any before?They really aren't that different from Magical folk. They just can't command things about with wands. Their basic emotions are the same. And believe it or not they also treat people very much the same as well."

Alice let go of her friend's shoulder and sank to her bum on the grass beside the lake. The earth was damp and cool beneath her pants but she didn't mind. Looking out across the serene lake and being there for her friend in need made her feel euphoric.

She made a noise of agreement but didn't turn towards Alice, simply taking in the sight of the lake.

"You know...I never really met any Muggle before...but my mother said some others like...us..they disliked them, but I've never seen genuine disgust over a human being" she said frowning. "I don't like really being in my common room, nor my dorm. I basically sleep there, or curl up by the window and read."

She wrinkled her nose.

"What about you? Other than the trouble with Professor Valentine, have you gotten in any trouble?" she asked trying to lighten up the mood and somewhat failing.

Alice let out a laugh.

"That was the only trouble I've managed today. I haven't really met any Gryffindors yet but I am hoping that I will soon enough. I am in class with a lot of Slytherins and I get the impression that they really don't like me already." She replied.

"I want to go exploring the secret passageways later, I think. There has to be a few of them around here, in a castle this old. But that'll have to wait until I do a bit of my homework. Or, at least Professor Valentine's. The answer I volunteered today was merely based on Muggle myth. I just got lucky."

She let out a small frown.

"I'm sorry to hear that they don't like you, I feel that some don't even like me" she said chuckling. "You know...maybe I was sorted in the wrong house" she murmured. "I don't seem to be too power hungry compared to these people"

She looked back at the lake and noticed that there were a few tentacles rising and she looked in amazement.

She laughed softly at the comment and looked at her friend feeling a bit better.

"Well if you must know, I can help you in potions if you ever need any help. I read the whole book last night." she said shrugging "And as for adventures....I-if you ever need a partner for that, I'll be interested in that"

She looked at her satchel and smiled slightly.

"I have a few adventures we could do too" she added even softer.

"You definitely are ambitious enough to be a Slytherin. I haven't even touched the book save what we had to open in it for class." Alice looked wide eyed at the mention of her friend's achievement. "And of course you'll be my adventure partner! What did you have in mind?"

She shrugged and felt herself flush slightly at the mention of ambitious. Perhaps it is because if she was not powerful personality wise, she would be intellectual wise. Prior to Hogwarts she believed she was curious about everything around her, prompting her to read, what she could.

"Well we'll see about ambitious after the first year" she said smirking, "but as for adventure, well...you know how you told me that you got that phone thingy? Well I got a little object myself"

She took out the small watch looking object and showed it to her. Usually it was seen in a gold color, but the silver was more fitting her mother said.

"It's called a time turner" she said looking around hoping no one heard her.

"A time turner," Alice examined the small object. "I have no idea what you would do with that," She laughed. "But as long as it's some sort of Mischief I want in on it."

She let out a wicked smirk and leaned forward, caressing the hourglass.

"It might look like a necklace, but in reality, it's capable of time travel" she said.

She was excited to tell her, something that was a secret between friends.

She wrinkled her nose at the part that was coming next.

"Well...it's honestly a mystery I need to figure out" she said shyly. "I've been reading up on it, but I'm nervous about using it. Also..I can't use it in front of people...it's not registered"

She slipped it in her pocket and looked at her.

"That's a mystery that I need to figure out"

"So how do they know if it's registered or not...and does it just make you disappear for time? Because that would be extremely unnerving. People just coming and going out of no where. Though, you mention something on the first day about people travelling via chimney so I really probably should not be too surprised if this is actually a regular occurrence." Alice sighed. "What book do you think you'll need to be able to read about that time turner?"

She wrinkled her nose and tried not to sound as a professor as she began to explain everything.

"There are only a handful of Time Turners, in fact they are registered by numbers in the Ministry of Magic" she began. "This one doesn't have one...it has been passed down in my family"

She showed her the back of the "necklace" that was smooth and shiny, and didn't have a single number engraved.

"In my mother's family...typically, they hold the secret as to how to create them. I never knew about it, till my mother handed it to me, to prove that magic indeed exist and had no bounds, and so I could overachieve."

She slipped it back around her neck and slid it behind her tie to hide it once more.

"It doesn't necessarily make you disappear in time, and by that I mean, that it doesn't make you disappear from the timeline, where you to go back in time, let's say an hour from now, we'd be here in Black Lake, but our past selves would still be in Potions! As for books...that I do not know...I tried looking at the library, but..but there aren't any out in the library, probably in the restricted section." she whispered softly and sighed. "I heard that most time turners are now destroyed"

"Well that's a shame, especially if you could be in more than one place at more than one time, essentially." Alice nodded her head. "But maybe the two of us could find this book together. I'm sure we could figure out a way to get into the Restricted Section. I mean, that's pretty much an invitation to waltz right in according to my interpretation." Alice smiled.

She shrugged but a glint in her eye showed her excitement over breaking the rules. She supposed that's the slight Slytherin in her.

"Perhaps...the question is how to get into the Restricted section. It's dangerous, apparently the Headmistress has eyes on that section" she said frowning.

"We could always try sneaking around the castle at night. Though, I suppose that Peeves might catch us," Alice sighed. He was a mischief maker but she hadn't won him over to her cause yet. "We'll find a way. If they make necklaces that can turn back time there has to be some spell or potion that can help us out!"

"Oh well....we have seven years to figure this out" she said jokingly.

She played with the necklace softly.

"I don't know that about potions...but I don't want to risk Peeves catching us, he's terrifying" she said. "I wouldn't want to be on the other side of those pranks"

"I'm trying to win him over. When you look at the big picture all prankers are on the same side so I know he's bound to come around and help me out a bit. Especially if I plan on getting into great mischief while I am here." Alice responded truthfully. "Trouble tends to follow me, or I follow it. I cannot discern anymore whom is following who."

She laughed at the comment about trying to win him over and looked at her amused.

"Well I'm not a prankster...I've never even pulled one. By the way that thing about trouble....really deep" she said teasingly. "Are you going to...how do you say...schmooze him?"
