Third Lesson - Page 2 Empty Re: Third Lesson

Tarragon watched carefully as Alys summoned the strength to hit him harder with the spell. He'd had to try very hard not to fall over the first time, and knew he'd wound her up by telling her she could do better.

"Impedimenta!"

Tarragon hardely had time to know the spell had worked before it hit him square in the chest and sent him flying up in the air and backwards. Thankfully the cushioning charm allowed his impact to the floor not to be felt. He looked around, the ceiling now all he could see. His body started to shake with laughter, Alys had managed to send him flying across the classroom like he'd asked.

He sat up and put a thumb up to Alys for the good job, still laughing out loud.

Seeing the boy fly clean across the room with her force of her spell, Alys turned white. Had she done something wrong? Did she hurt him?

Apparently not because a moment later, he was giving her the thumbs up. Alys rushed to his side and offered him a hand up, smiling all over her face at her success. "You are an absolute pleasure to work with," she winked cheekily. "Thank you for the lesson."

"You are very welcome, Fraulien Diederich" He replied, "Always here to help! Even if that means you have to send me on another flying lesson." He added cheekily.

He didn't know how much longer of the lesson was left, taking Alys' offered hand he pulled himself up and looked around the class to see how everyone else was getting on.

Jadzia looked around the room proudly. Her students were excelling greatly. A few seemed to still have a bit of problems, but that would quickly be sorted with more practice and confidence.

Clapping her hands to gain everyone's attention, Jadzia stood at the front of the classroom.

"Well done today, students. Now as for your homework," ignoring the groans, "2 feet on 3 scenarios in which the Impediment jinx will be helpful and three more scenarios in which the jinx would not. I expect these scenarios to be detailed and well thought out. If you have any questions or any needs at all, please see me during my office hours."

With another wave of her wand, the desks were back in place and the cushioning charm lifted from the floor. A small smirk played across Jadzia's face as she watched the classroom empty. The first day had been a great success!

Terry waited until the class was emptied and then walked up to the teacher.

"I am Mr. Terry Okinawa, ma'am. Sorry I was late. Today was my first day. Is there anything I need to know before the next lesson?" Terry asked looking at the floor

If Terry would have been paying attention he would have heard the whole assignment, but he was too intranced by the magic going on in the room. He had never really seen it used in this way before.

"You had said something about the Impediment jinx, correct?

Jadzia studied the new student. According to his robes, he was the latest member of her house.

"Mr. Okinawa, I will forgive your extreme tardiness this once being that you're a new student. However, should it happen again you'll face detention. Now you have quite a lot of missed work to catch up on but it isn't impossible. In your defense textbook, you'll need to read the first 3 chapters and practice the spells described. Mr. Caesar is in your house and should be more then happy to help. If any further help is needed, you can visit my office during the posted hours."

Jadzia crossed the room, leading the student to the door. "I know your workload will be heavy for your first week here at the Institute but I expect excellence, Mr. Okinawa. Your assignment will be due with the rest of the students at the next class. Any questions?"

Terrence listened to the work load that the professor assigned and thought about it. Yes he had all these spells and didn't even have a clue what to do with a wand, other than watching everyone else.

Terrence thought he would have to look up this Caesar guy, and hope he wasn't a jerk.

When she asked if he had any questions he was really nervous about what he had to say.

"Actually Ma'am I have never used a wand before, this is all completly new to me." Terry had said it as he looked at the floor.

"The day I picked it up was the first time I have held one."Terry said still looking at the floor.

Jadzia could see the anxiousness clearly on the boy's face. He felt completely lost in the magical world, not very uncommon for any muggleborn or muggle raised student.

"I can assure you, Mr. Okinawa, that you are not the first student to enter Durmstrang without a magical background, nor will you be the last. You have nothing to be distressed about. Not only as your defense professor, but also as your head of house, I will make sure you get whatever help you need. You've only missed a few lessons per class and it will be easy enough to catch up."

Checking her schedule, Jadzia knew that she'd have a few evenings free providing she wouldn't have to supervise any detentions this week. "Should Mr. Caesar prove to not be enough help, please coming during my evening office hours and I can assist you where needed."

"Thank you Ma'am, I feel much better now, I just didn't realize there were many people like me." With that Terry walked away.

Jadzia closed the door behind Terrence, lost in her thoughts. There was no doubt that the boy seemed lost. More so then any of the other 1st years. I'll keep my eye on him, just in case.
