Lesson Four Empty Lesson Four

Post by Briony Romain Mon Jan 23, 2012 6:08 pm

Briony had done no special preparations for the last lesson of the year? Why? Because she was extremely dissappointed in her students, to her mind, they didn't deserve anything special because they had slacked off in the last lesson they had had together.

Sighing she sat down cross legged on the desk, leant back to tap the board and the words:

'Everte Statum'

Appeared on the board.

Waiting for her class to arrive Briony twiddled her thumbs, a new found skull she didn't know she could do.

Lesson Four Empty Re: Lesson Four

Post by Parker Emery Mon Jan 23, 2012 6:47 pm

Since his blunder last class, Parker was determined to do better this time. Instead of waiting and not wanting to be too early, hoping he'd not be too late, he left for the class as soon as he had to chance. He'd not leave the year off by his teachers being disappointed in him.

He would push beyond his comfort zone, and do whatever he could to prove himself. Perhaps even impress, he thought, as he made his way down the corridor, his head held high in feigned confidence. Prof. Romain was especially stern it seemed and he had to try especially hard not to quail from her strong presence. Especially at his embarrassment from last time.

With a quick, deep breath Parker pushed the door of the classroom open and walked in. He took in the fact that she was cross-legged on the desk, which seemed a bit odd, but made her seem a little less frightening to him. He took his seat right in the front, looking at the words on the board.

Lesson Four Empty Re: Lesson Four

Airen opened the door, he saw the professor sitting at her desk. He felt ashamed in not doing anything last lesson. He kept his head down. Silently walking up to the front row, he sat in his seat. He would try to apologize in time, but he didn't know when. Should he do it now, or later? He figured now was best.

"Sorry about last lesson, Professor," he said softly, not wanting to make her mad. He quickly took out ink, quill, and parchment.

Lesson Four Empty Re: Lesson Four

Post by Haley Vilde Smith Mon Jan 23, 2012 11:11 pm

Haley walked into the duelling classroom quietly with her books in her arms. She looked automatically at the black board and saw the words 'everte statium'. She frowned slightly. She had heard about that spell some place, but she couldn't remember where. Probably just one of the many books she had read.

Haley smiled to the professor slightly, and the grin got wider when her eyes landed on Parker. She walked up to him and sat down.

"Hey," she said silently, and then opened her book to try to locate the spell by checking the register.

Salina rushed to her duelling class, embarassed from last time still where she had lost 5 house points. She hoped that this time, she would earn some house points instead of losing them, and once she arrived in the classroom she was pleased to discover that she was in fact early.

Looking around, she realised none of her friends were in this class (Pxyis and Leshia), so not feeling bold today she strode over to a table at the back of the classroom and took a seat.

Parker glanced back when he heard the few others enter the room. He smiled when Haley approached and sat behind him. "Hullo." He watched as she went to look up the spell in her book, then he thought to do the same.

Lesson Four Empty Perfect

Post by Humphrey Williams Tue Jan 24, 2012 12:29 pm

Humphrey Williams walked into the classroom taught by Professor Romain, it was dueling. He had been reading and studying his course books ever since he had received his book list and course supply list. His wand was a fifteen inch elder wand, very looked down on because of a wizard's children's story called The Three Brothers. the legendary Elder Wand had a trail of blood and death and had been known as the Deathstick and the Wand of Destiny as well as the Elder Wand. "Wand of elder, never prosper." was also a common wizard proverb. But he didn't care, elder wands were powerful, and the Thestral-hair core was also unique and had a bad reputation because Thestrals could only be seen by those who had witnessed death. Thestral-hair cores were generally associated with dark wizards, although it was just a prejudice, and elder wands also were associated with dark wizards. But he did not care, since he was Muggleborn he had no stereotypes. It was a powerful wand and had performed every spell he ever tried brilliantly. So far he had tried many spells from the basic first year course books, and he had practiced with the dueling spells in particular. When he saw the words 'Everte Statum' written on the blackboard in white chalk. He had done the spell properly and it had effectively tossed his pillow each time he aimed his wand and flicked it while pronouncing the words. "Professor Briony, I can perform the spell you wrote on the board. May I do a demonstration with you, I know I won't disappoint you." he asked Professor Romain and tried to let her know he wouldn't be a disappointment.

Airen whipped his head around at the door. Humphrey walked in. Biting his tongue, Airen tried to keep himself from telling off the pompous Gryffindor. He succeeded, thankfully. He really wanted to try and be friends, but if one acts like that, then things get really tense.

Clearly, this guy needed to...what was the phrase? Scendere da cavallo alta (Get off his high horse.) Wow, Airen was surprised at how cruel he sounded in his mind. He was thankful that he didn't say anything. He had to get back to reading his Bible. He was losing his grip on his emotions.

Lesson Four Empty Re: Lesson Four

Post by Briony Romain Sun Jan 29, 2012 7:57 am

Briony stood up from her seat and smiled her normal swift smile, she tapped the desk and immediately two dummies became animated in the corner of the room, they moved into the open space in the middle of the room and Briony couldn't help but raise an eyebrow slightly:

"If you know this spell. Get out. There's clearly no need to be here. However if you don't feel like being a know it all stay seated and be quiet."

Glaring at the boy, Humphrey, who had caused nothing but trouble since his arrival Briony then turned her attention to the class.

"Watch the dummies carefully."

The red dummy stood there, he was the target, the green one held up it's imaginary wand and said in a wooden mechanical voice:

'Everte Statum'

The red dummy then flew across the classroom, flipping in the air several times before landing on the floor. Briony tapped the desk again and the Walls became generously padded.

"Partners are:

Haley and Salina
Parker and Airen
Humphrey can work with me, since he knows this spell already."

Airen held a hand to his mouth. He forced himself to calm down. He was glad that a professor saw fit to put Humphrey in his place. He did feel guilty for almost laughing at him, and he wanted to try and help the kid be more humble.

He watched the dummies. When the red dummy flew backwards, Airen thought of something one of his mentor's taught him. How to always land on your feet. He could try it, but he needed to perfect it first. So, no. Maybe in a few years, but right now, perhaps not.

When the professor told then their partners, Airen saw this as a chance to make another friend. He got up from his seat. He walked over to Parker. Smiling, he inclined his head in greeting.

"Hey, Parker. how are you?" he asked as he drew his wand. He got in a battle stance.

"Do you want to go first?"

Haley smiled at Salina. She always thought that Salina seemed like a nice girl, and she was looking forward to working with her. So she walked over to her.

"All right, let's do this thing," Haley said, her smile widening as she positioned herself a small distance from Salina.

"Do you wanna go first, or should I?" Haley asked kindly.

Parker watched in awe as the Dummy flew and flipped. She seriously wanted them to practice this on each other?? They would be hurt, even with the padding on the walls.

When Airen approached he gave him a polite smile as he stood up from his chair. He thought for a moment which should go first. He wanted to get it over with but if Airen went first, and it hurt, he knew he'd not have the heart to hurt him back. So he had to go first. He nodded to his question and pulled out his wand, taking a breath. "You ready?"

Airen nodded his head. He knew Parker was a gentle person. That much was obvious. He smiled kindly.

"Trust me, Parker. I've had worse," he said cooly. He tensed his muscles and breathed deeply.

"Hit me with your best shot," Airen commanded.

Parker took another breath, aiming and steadying his wand at him. "Don't tense...just relax."

He shut his eyes, his wand point at Airen as he unsurely called out, "Everte Statum," it being just powerful enough to knock him back off his feet.

Airen smiled at Parker's advice. He relaxed. Then, when the spell hit him, Airen flew backward. He felt such a rush. He smiled widely. Twisting his body, he spun in the air until his feet were under him and pointed at the ground. He landed in a crouched position. He laughed heartedly.

"That was awesome!" he said. Realizing that he'd just said that out loud, Airen ducked his head down shyly.

"Sorry, umm...Are you ready?" he asked, stumbling over his words at the beginning.

"That was awesome!" Parker opened his eyes, to see him crouched and laughing. Parker smiled a little at his enthusiasm and was glad it didn't hurt him. He pocketed his wand again. And let out a breath.

"Not really...but go ahead.."

Airen nodded his head. Breathing deeply to calm himself down, he pointed his wand at Parker.

"Everte Statum," Airen said calmly. The spell shot from his wand directly at Parker. Airen had only let a small bit of his energy into the spell. It should only be enough to knock the boy down.

Salina looked at Briony as she said told them their partners, and she felt nervous. Normally, she would have been cold and distant, but now that she had changed she felt shy. It was a foreign feeling, so when Haley approached her she lowered her eyes and smiled softly.

"Er, hello. You can go first." She said in a shaky voice, turning to face Haley, her instant reaction to grab her wand and defend herself but that wasn't the task. Instead, she stood tall and frowned. She really didn't want to flip backwards, but was glad that the walls were soft.

At her old school, she had been flipped backwards into a hard wall, and that had hurt a lot. She was paired with her worst enemy, so they ended up having a full on battle. Their spells were weak, but it was still very intense. The teacher had quickly broken them up after returning from the bathroom, but while it lasted everyone had watched with baited breath.

"Im ready." Salina told Haley, bracing herself.

Parker closed his eyes as Airen readied. He heard him say the spell and then felt his feet get knocked out from beneath him. He fell straight back, his breath being knocked from him as he hit the floor. It took him a few moments to react as he tried to catch his breath, still on the ground.

Haley saw that Salina seemed a bit spooked by the thought of being made into not doing anything while Haley would cast the spell. She sighed. She didn't want to hurt her.

When Salina said she was ready, Haley nodded and raised her wand offencively. She then made sure that Salina wouldn't hit anything except a wall or the floor when she was shot backwards. When she was sure there wasn't anything, Haley looked directly at Salina, forgetting herself, and only thinking about pushing the girl back with the spell.

"Everte Statum!" she said sharply, and the spell hit Salina with power.

Briony smiled, everything was going well this lesson and her faith had been restored in her pupils for the new year, it was going to be a very very good year next year if they continued in such a manner.

Sitting at her desk she calmly watched as the pairs duelled each other, it would be a very productive lesson.
