Lesson One- Second Years Empty Lesson One- Second Years

Post by Jadzia Krulle Thu Feb 16, 2012 5:17 am

Jadzia Krulle was back for the new school term and looking forward to her new batch of students. Her holiday was spent back with her team, acting as strategic advisor to their developing plans in invading Britian. However, one thing caught her off guard. She missed teaching. She missed her students. Who would have thought that Jadzia Krulle would find herself actually enjoying this teaching position.

Walking to the door, she opened it to allow her second years to file in. She was looking forward to seeing her students again after the holiday. She had enjoyed this group the previous year and was looking forward to seeing how they continued to progress.

Lesson One- Second Years Empty Re: Lesson One- Second Years

Lucian had been waiting patiently outside of the classroom and he was glad when the door was finally opened for him to sit on something that wasn't hard cold stone. He had forgotten how peskily cold it was down here.

He sat down at his usual desk, being the first one in and nodded his head in greeting to the professor wondering what they would be covering today in lessons.

Hopefully something cool.

"Good Morning, students, and welcome to the new term," Jadzia announced, closing the door which signified that class had officially started. She looked out over her second years and noted the missing faces. None of the professors had been surprised that some of the students hadn't returned. Times of war tended to make families flee to 'greener pastures.'

"Your summer work is due today. Make sure to leave it on my desk before exiting class."

Jadzia moved to the center of the front of the room before starting her class lecture. "Last term we went over shielding, jinxes, and using your surroundings as defense. This term we will continue to strengthen those foundations and improve upon them. Now who can tell me a way to easily conceal yourself, not using a potion?"

Lucian grimaced a little when the Professor mentioned the summer work that was due in, he hoped that he had it in his bag but he couldn't be sure, he probably had it...probably.

When the Professor asked a question and he seemed to be the only student still alive, Lucian grinned and raised his hand to answer it:

"You could always stick to the shadows, or, if that's not an option before leaving for a battle or stealth attack in particular you could make sure that you have adequate camouflage."

Although not caring about housepoints much, Lucian still didnt want to be wrong.

Lesson One- Second Years Empty Re: Lesson One- Second Years

Post by Erik Herrmann Sat Feb 18, 2012 4:58 am

Erik came to a stop in front of the classroom door, out of breath. The door was closed... he was late. He'd heard from other students that Professor Krulle was a stickler for being on time. Praying he wouldn't get a detention on his first week of class, Erik eased the door open.

The class was small and it was apparent that Erik was interrupting the professor in the middle of a lecture.

"Um... sorry, Lehrer." Erik murmured, sliding into the nearest open seat.

"Very good, Mr. Ciero. Camouflage is exactly-" Jadzia started but was cut off by the door swinging open and a student rushing in. Her eyes narrowed in annoyance. Her students knew about tardiness and her very strong opinions concerning them. Unless you were throwing up, bleeding excessively, or dieing you were to be in class and on time. Early was preferable. It made her one of the strictest professors at Durmstrang but she wanted to ensure that her students took the subject seriously.

"Mr. Herrmann, you are quite late. See me after class," Jadzia said frowning at the second year who slid into an empty seat.

"Now continuing the lesson," Jadzia said refocusing on on her lecture, "camouflage can be a great asset in any sort of conflict, especially in avoiding a potential situation. There are two helpful spells that can enable you to become invisible enough to evade an attacker. The two spells are the disillusionment charm and the bedazzeling hex. Now normally these spells wouldn't be taught until fourth year but due to the war, we've felt that an introduction would be beneficial now.

Today we will just focus on the disillusionment charm. The incantation is 'Dissimulo.' For now you will not be allowed to attempt this on yourself or each other. Should something go wrong, it could be irreversible."

Jadzia waved her had and a quill appeared in front of each student. "Read the section on camouflaging in battle in your textbooks and then attempt the disillusionment charm on the quill provided."

Lucian listened to the Professor and he began to look through his textbook that he had gotten for this subject and found the camouflage section and he was immensely glad that they had something other than themselves to practice on and he wrote down a few notes about the spell.

Looking at the quill Lucian sighed slightly and decided that now was as good a time as any and he pointed his wand at the quill and muttered:

"Dissimulo."

Lucian saw the tip of the quill turn invisible but quickly reverted back to normal, he tried the spell again and the results lasted a little longer, determined Lucian kept on trying.

Lesson One- Second Years Empty Re: Lesson One- Second Years

Erik knew he was in trouble. Not only was Professor Krulle's strict reputation infamous with the students, but she was also his head of house. Not a good first impression!

Quickly scanning the material in the book, Erik was determined to impress his professor at least enough to get back into her good graces. Focusing on the quill in front of him, he followed the precise wand movements. "Dissimulo" Erik said and watched his quill disappear.

"Yes!" he cried out, excited. Deciding to do it again to make sure it wasn't a fluke, Erik did a quick "finite incantatum".... and again.... and again. No quill. Not even a sliver of a feather. Nothing. It was quickly obvious that the quill hadn't been disillusioned but either banished or obliterated.

"Whoops" Erik groaned. It just wasn't his day.

Jadzia watched her class as they continued practicing the disillusionment charm. It wasn't an easy lesson for the start of the term, as evidenced by their struggles. Lucian was slowly getting the hang of it but the defense professor inwardly groaned at Erik's failed attempt. She knew she needed to be a bit understanding since he was only home schooled for his first year. 'He'll catch up,' she thought to herself.

"That's it for today, class. Your assignment is a one foot essay on three practical scenarios that you might use a disillusionment charm, not only on yourself but also on an object. Also, 10 points to Verstand for your answer in today's lesson, Mr. Ciero."

Jadzia crossed the room and opened the door, signifying that class had been dismissed.

Erik remained behind while the class emptied out. His stomach was in knots and all he could do was pray that his parents weren't going to get an owl about his tardiness this first week. It really hadn't gone well.

Sitting at his desk, with his head hung, he heard the professor walk towards him. 'Here it comes!' he thought morosely. He didn't even have a good excuse to give...

"Mr. Herrmann," Jadzia began after studying the young student in front of her. It was obvious that his conscious was eating at him. However, she really had a low tolerance for unexcused tardiness. However, perhaps she would go a tad soft... he was in her house after all.

"Seeing as it's your first week here, and that you are new to the Institute, I will not give you the detention I normally do in these situations. Instead 5 points will be taken from Geschick," Jadzia spoke sharply, conveying her disapproval, not only for the tardiness but for also being forced to take points from her own house.

"In the future," she continued, "there will be no more unexcused tardiness or absences. You performance in class today shows the need for being here for the entire lesson. Should there be a next time, Mr. Herrmann, you will not find me so lenient."

Truthfully, Jadzia hated being so strict but disciplines needed to be taught, and this was one of the main ways for the students to learn.
