Cobalt winced again. He had been hoping, perhaps rather foolishly, that it had been some kind of an accident. That it hadn't been done against Charlotte, a child, deliberately. Once again he regretted not being with Charlotte sooner,

"Right..." he sighed sadly and gather Charlotte up in a reassuring hug, "It's alright Charlotte... you don't have to remember. We can deal with this now that we know what we're dealing with."

He was initially confused when Charlotte rolled onto her front but when she moved her t-shirt up to show the pale white scars that litered Charlotte's back. Cobalt had seen many of them before but the main one, the 'demon' one, was something that he'd never seen before. He swallowed hard to keep from getting visibly furious at what had happened to Charlotte. As it was he still looked rather angry,

"She cursed you, her own daughter, because..." he paused, having to stop himself shaking with rage, "Because she thought you were a demon?"

Charlotte hissed and wriggled out of the hug, looking apologetically at Cobalt as she rubbed her chest hoping that he would understand why she moved away from him, just because he had constricted her when she needed to focus on breathing.

"But I don't know the counter...or even where to start...or if she made it herself, which means we would need to...to go...there."

Hearing the silence from Cobalt, Charlotte was a little afraid, her mother was already dead, or so she thought, so what could he do apart from make himself more upset.

"Hai." she whispered looking up into Cobalts eyes with her red shining ones "How many children are born with red eyes Papa? They used to make me change into someone else...they would hur-"

Charlotte gasped and closed her eyes.

When Charlotte wriggled out of the hug with a hiss of pain Cobalt winced. Seemed that she was having more of the pain from the condition right now. He cupped her cheek with a reassuring hand instead of hugging her,

"We can look into it." he assured her with a small smile, "Curses are easier to deal with than unknown heart conditions. Means we can trace the magic and have an idea as to what it is."

Cobalt could see that he was making Charlotte afraid with his anger so he pushed it down inside. He would vent his anger later but for now, Charlotte needed him to be calm and loving. Cobalt kissed her on the forehead,

"Many children are born with red eyes. Albino children are often born with red or pink eyes." he froze for a second when she spoke, already piecing together what she stopped herself from saying, "It's okay Charlotte... they're gone now. They can never hurt you anymore. I won't allow anyone to hurt you like that ever again."

Charlotte snuggled her head into Cobies hand with a happy sort of sigh, managing to tune out the pain for the time being to think about being happy with her Papa now, she needed to be strong for him so that he would think she was okay.

"I guess they would be easier to deal with, but it's still scary for me...there could be all sorts of different..." sighing, Charlotte felt too tired to argue and just closed her eyes.

Smiling slightly, Charlotte placed a hand on Cobalts cheek and nuzzled her head against his neck even though he had scratchy stubble she didn't mind, she just wanted to feel happy and safe.

"I don't kn-" Charlotte's eyes widened and she shook her head hoping that Cobie wouldnt have picked up on it.

Charlotte pulled her tshirt down with a small smile and curled up into a ball, whimpering again as there were another set of palpitations wracking through her.

The happy sigh that Charlotte gave off made Cobalt smile ever so slightly, stroking her cheek gently with his thumb. He needed to be strong for her so that she didn't feel she had to be happy,

"I know Charlotte, I know..." he reassured her quietly, "It's still rather daunting... you're not sure what to expect or even if we'll have any luck. But it's better than nothing."

With his daughter nuzzling into him, despite her hatred of his scratchy stubble, Cobalt felt suddenly a lot better. Sighing in a slight happier way, Cobalt played with her hair lightly,

"It's alright Charlotte..." he assured her, picking up on what she was trying to say. It sounded like she wasn't sure if her mother was alive or not. He'd have to look into it later, "I'll take care of you Charlotte and I'll take care of... it..."

Cobalt watched as his daughter curled up into a little ball with her head on his lap. He didn't dare hug her for fear that he might hurt her again. Instead he scratched behind her cat ears, which were still in place.

Charlotte was pleased with Cobies reaction when she told him that it was a curse that she had, it would be much easier to create a counter curse to it than to try and find some sort of medical solution to it which would be much harder since it didn't seem to work.

"Will you come with me? To her house in Paris? She might have something there about it that we could use."

Feeling at peace, Charlotte was in serious danger of falling asleep on Cobies knee and she yawned lightly, she had had a hard day today in terms of her heart. It was getting better now though.

"I trust you Papa, I know you will take care of it, you'll be able to keep me safe."

Charlotte curled her hand in Cobies hair and blushed slightly: "Can I sleep in your bed tonight?"

Cobalt was seething on the inside that anyone would ever even think about doing something as terrible as this to his daughter. But the rage was burried for now, he would unleash it if he ever came across her mother. Right now he was actually more hopeful than anything else, curses were a lot easier than medical problems for magic to deal with,

"Of course Charlotte." he assured her with a small smile, giving her a hug, "I'll be with you through every step of your struggle with this."

When Charlotte yawned on his knee, Cobalt took at as something of a compliment, that he was able to ease her enough for sleep to be an option for her. Cobalt held her to him in a light hug, hugging around the shoulders so as not to hurt her heart anymore,

"I will always keep you safe Charlotte..." he told her with conviction, "Your happiness is my only goal in life and I will see it fulfilled."

At the innocent question, Cobalt smiled and nodded with a smile,

"Of course you can Charlotte." he kissed her lightly on the forehead, "You're always welcome to sleep in my bed if you need the comfort."

Charlotte was relieved that Cobalt was going to come with her to the house in Paris, she didn't know what would happen if she went on her own and that thought scared her, she hoped that the woman that used to be her mother was dead, or was in prison, but she couldn't know for sure.

"Thank you Cobie, although, I'm not sure I'm ready to go just yet, maybe in the summer time."

Smiling softly she was glad that Cobalt had found a way to hold her that wouldn't hurt, after all it was because of the tireness her condition was making her feel that she wanted to go to bed now, and she needed to know someone would be there for her in the night.

It made her feel safe to have someone like Cobie as her Papa, not only because of what he did, but because she knew that he would keep her safe at all possible costs.

"Can we go and get ready for bed now Cobie? I'll go and get my pyjama's from my dorm room and meet you in your office, or...or you could wait for me if you wanted." she yawned, wincing a little as she sat up.

Cobalt would have to make sure that if they went to the house that he had some of his people check the place out, he didn't want there to be any real danger to Charlotte. He smiled a little bit and nodded with a small smile,

"That's okay Charlotte, we can wait." he assured her with a small smile, "This summer or the next, either way I'll be with you when you do go."

Cobalt was almost as glad as he imagined his daughter to be when he realised that hugging her around her shoulders didn't hurt her. He smiled a little bit and helped her to her feet gently, so as not to aggrivate her heart at all. He thought for a moment before shrugging,

"You go get your PJs and I'll wait for you here." he smiled, "Then we can walk up to my office just the two of us."

Charlotte smiled happily and she stood up, nodding her head she began to move away from the sofa where she had been laying down and was about to run up the stairs to the dormatory but realised that it was probably not the best of ideas and instead slowly began to climb them.

Eventually she reached the top and grabbed what she needed, it was blissfully empty in there at the moment and she wondered just where everyone was, with a small frown Charlotte made her way back down the stairs with her PJ's in tow, and smiled once more at her Papa as she bobbed down the last few steps.

Holding his hand in hers she made her way with him to his office.
