Lesson Two - Second Years Empty Lesson Two - Second Years

Post by Briony Romain Mon Feb 27, 2012 7:26 pm

Briony had this lesson plan prepared for quite some time and she wondered whether she was going to have much hassle from the students today, because they were 'killing' an animal.

It wasn't really killing they were just going to be banishing the snake that their partner was going to conjure up for them today, sort of like a mini duel.

Hoping that nobody would get it wrong today, as she didn't want anyone going to the hospital wing covered in snake bites or having their ribs crushed by a python, Briony sat at her desk and began cleaning a sword that had gotten a little bit dull.

Haley walked into the Duelling classroom with a determined face. So, last time hadn't been going so very well. This time it was going to be different. She had to drop some classes though. She didn't have time for them all.

She saw professor Romain sitting by her desk, polishing a sword, and she gave a short nod to her. Then she walked and found a table in the front, sitting down, ready to get her duelling on.

Post by Victoria Rossmund Tue Feb 28, 2012 8:36 am

Victoria had to battle not to run to class. She knew she was going to be rather early, but she couldn't help her excitement. Some of the other classes were becoming dull lectures and the last dueling lesson was far from dull!

Finding Haley there, she smiled and took a seat, wondering what they would be learning this time. She had worried last class about being too eager to participate, but realized it was the only way to really learn this stuff.

Airen walked into the classroom. He'd been thinking about how distant Charlotte seemed. He pushed those thoughts aside and sat in his seat. He looked around and noticed Haley and Victoria were there. He just hoped they didn't talk too much like last time.

He took out his things and got ready for the class.

"Ciao (hello), Professor," he greeted, albiet somewhat distracted.

She was excited about dueling today. The other time, she had found herself getting points because she took the initiative and did the spell as best as she could. She had never really jumped into anything and the class was helping her be more aggressive.

Sitting down beside Victoria, she found herself waiting patiently for the class to begin.

Lesson Two - Second Years Empty Re: Lesson Two - Second Years

Post by Parker Emery Tue Feb 28, 2012 2:34 pm

Parker was worried as anything as he hurried down the corridor. He could not believe he'd missed first lesson. He bit his lip nearing the room. Last week, when he'd realized he was going to be late for the class he'd turned right around and hid out in his dorm, ditching. Parker didn't ditch. No. No, not at all. He was going to try to make it up today, he wanted to. Whatever it took.

He gulped and tried to open the door as quietly as possible. He slipped in, taking a seat sort of near the back, sort of hoping he could just blend right into the wall, but knowing that being the bumbling mess he was at the moment, he stuck out. He set his bag on the desk in front of him, busying himself by digging around in his bag for something he wasn't really looking for.

Lesson Two - Second Years Empty Re: Lesson Two - Second Years

Post by Briony Romain Wed Feb 29, 2012 7:31 pm

Briony nodded and smiled at Airen as he came into the classroom, he was one of the only students who would actually talk to her, and as refreshing as that was it meant that she often thought of him in a higher light than anyone else, a thought which she shook from her head immediately.

"Welcome class, now, last lesson we learnt what spell?" she asked "It will be paramount to todays duel that you remember this spell, otherwise your opponent wont have anything to practice their spells on today. For today we are going to be learning the counter spell, can any of you tell me what that counter spell might be and the effect of it?"

Haley raised her hand. "The last lesson's spell was Serpentsortia, and the counterspell is Vipera Evanasca," she said.

She had read up on the spell and the countercurse during her sparetime, due to her failed lesson last time. She was determined to fix that.

Lesson Two - Second Years Empty Re: Lesson Two - Second Years

Post by Briony Romain Wed Feb 29, 2012 10:54 pm

Briony saw Haley's hand and she nodded at her, in an indication for her to speak, she had in fact got both of the answers right apart from a very minor pronunciation mistake in the counter spell.

"Well done Miss. Smith, however, the counter spell is Vipera Evanesca, if you used your pronunciation, you would have blown us all up." she smirked lightly.

Looking around the class she raised an eyebrow, as if asking for anyone else to come through with the answer that she wanted: "5 points to Hufflepuff, now, can anyone tell me what the counter spell, does?"

Airen raised his hand. He knew that Latin was somewhat the basis for most spells. Being a student in it, he knew what the spell translated as.

"It makes a conjured snake disappear," he said confidently.

Post by Briony Romain Thu Mar 01, 2012 7:29 pm

Briony nodded her head and she smiled at Airen's answer, it was exactly right, some students would say that it killed the snake, that it made the snake explode or something stupid like that...but it simply made it dissappear to another location.

"That's correct Airen, 5 points to Gryffindor. Now I will need a student volunteer to cast the spell that we performed last lesson, to which I will demonstrate the counter."

Expectantly, Briony waited for someone from the class to step forward and offer to take part in the demonstration.

Lesson Two - Second Years Empty Re: Lesson Two - Second Years

Post by Tess McCartney Thu Mar 01, 2012 7:33 pm

Tess found herself wanting to volunteer and she raised her hand immediately. She knew the spell well, and last time, it seemed like it had worked properly.

"If I may?" she asked.

Seeing that she was in the clear. Taking out her wand, she whipped it around and she clearly said the spell.

"Serpent Sortia!"

Once again, like the previous time, the Inland Tapia appeared from her wand. It had appeared faster than the previous time, and it appeared to be more aggressive as well. It shot out of her wand and seeing that the dummy wasn't there, it simply hissed around.

Post by Briony Romain Mon Mar 05, 2012 1:27 am

Briony smiled as Tess volunteered herself for the task and stepped up in front of her so that the snake would fly towards her instead of attacking other students which she would get in trouble for, a lot of trouble.

With a small smile, Briony flicked her wand and said, clearly:

"Vipera Evanesca." and watched as the snake who had just flew from Tess' wand, disappear with a triumphant smile.

Turning her attention back to the class Briony nodded to them and said:

"Now you have seen the spell in action, you will break into pairs and then take turns in using the spell while the other summons the snake in the first place, are we clear? Excellent. You may begin."

Haley looked around the classroom, noticing that she didn't know many of them that well. So she walked over to Parker and gave him a small smile.

"Wanna partner up?" she asked him, now rather insecure about whether or not he wanted to for some weird reason.

Lesson Two - Second Years Empty Re: Lesson Two - Second Years

Post by Parker Emery Mon Mar 05, 2012 6:14 am

Parker was listening intently to what was going on in the class, hoping to be able to catch himself up to speed with what everyone did last time. So..conjuring a snake? That seemed dangerous, but at least this time they were learning the counter. He didn't want to think of what possibly could have happened last class, not knowing the counter.

He watched as Tess volunteered, conjuring a large, ferocious looking snake that slid and hissed around. Hearing about the snakes at first, he didn't think anything of it, having been around many smaller garden snakes. Though nothing like this monster of a predator. He looked at Professor Romain as she said the counter, making the snake disappear. He wondered what sort of snakes everyone would conjur up, and was curious if the type of snake said something about the person that conjured it.

In his though Parker didn't notice Haley come up at first. When she asked if they wanted to he looked over and smile. "Yeah, sure!" He looked back at the professor, then at her again, lowering his voice a bit. "Though I wasn't here last class- so can you help me with the first spell? And then you can do the counter on it."

Lesson Two - Second Years Empty Re: Lesson Two - Second Years

Post by Victoria Rossmund Mon Mar 05, 2012 6:21 am

After the demonstration, Victoria walked over to Tess. "That was brilliant!"

Assuming they would be partners, as always, she took the professor's place across from her. "How 'bout I try the spell again, that way you can have a go at the counter spell?"

She knew her excitement for trying the spell was driving her to possible recklessness. Taking a solid stance, she took a slow, deep breath, then said, "Serpensortia."

The black cobra shot from her wand again. It looked at her, confused, as if it was the same one from last time, looking for it's dummy from last time. Not knowing what to do, it went after the target in front of it: Tess. Victoria could feel her heart race at the possibility of the counter spell not working. She'll be fine. she told herself.

Haley smiled to Parker. "Sure," she said with a smile.

"The incantation is 'Serpent Sortia'," she said calmly, without holding her wand, not wanting to summon one yet.

"But truth be told, I didn't really get to practice it either. So, I suggest we point the wands not at each other, so the snake doesn't attack before we can counter attack," Haley said thoughtfully.

She then looked around and then pointed to some random place where no one was in sight.

"You summon it, and I can try to make it go away," Haley suggested with a smile.

Lesson Two - Second Years Empty Re: Lesson Two - Second Years

Post by Parker Emery Mon Mar 05, 2012 6:37 am

Parker grabbed his wand out of his bag then stood up from his seat. "Thanks." Okay, Serpent Sortia, he repeated in his mind.

He nodded, giving a slightly nervous smile. "Yeah, that sounds like a really good idea. Wouldn't want a mamba to jump out and get one of us before we could even blink." He let out a short, slightly uneased laugh. While he'd never been bitten by a garden snake, he knew that the exotic snakes he was seeing were on a completely different level then that.

Parker walked with Haley to the corner of the room. "Okay, so I'll aim it at the wall, so you have some time to do the counter if it doesn't work the first time."

He took a deep breath, holding his wand up with a tight grip. With the suggestion Haley made in Transfiguration, Parker closed his eyes, focusing to get the spell right the first time. He did the motion he saw Tess do only moments before and called out, "Serpent Sortia!" A brightly coloured coral snake then flew onto the ground. It wasn't hissing loudly or moving fast like the other snakes had been. But it seemed confused at the wall before it, and turned around, going towards the two of them, looking for someplace dark and dank to hide out.

Post by Haley Vilde Smith Mon Mar 05, 2012 6:43 am

Haley followed him and got ready, aiming her wand at the wall Parker was aiming at. Then he performed the spell and a coral snake shot out. It moved towards them, and Haley pointed firmly at it.

"Vipera Evanesca," she said, but her wand didn't do anything.

She then frowned, and cleared her mind from the stress she was feeling. She wasn't scared though. Snakes were a fascination of hers.

"Vipera Evanesca!" she said firmer when her head was clear, and the snake vanished as if it got burned really quickly.

She smiled and looked at Parker. "Now, that was fun," she said with a wink of her eye.

Then she raised her wand again. "All right, I summon the snake, and you do the counterspell?" she suggested.

Then she pointed at the same wall and said: "Serpent Sortia!"

A huge, huge snake shot out from her wand. A King Cobra. It had to be a King Cobra. Haley looked amazed at it. It was her favorite type. She then shot a short look at Parker, when the snake turned and watched them with a weary head, the cobra form really showing, meaning that it felt threatened.

Post by Parker Emery Mon Mar 05, 2012 7:03 am

When Haley's spell didn't work the first time, he elt a bit nervous, taking a step back and hoping she could get it the second. She vanished the snake on her second try and turned, smiling at Parker. He gave a smile and relieved sigh in response.

As she went to perform the spell as well, Parker held up his wand, trying to stay in his focused mind set to do the spell properly. He wondered what her's would be just as it shot from her wand. His eyes widened a bit and he felt himself shrink back a step. A cobra?? He couldn't recall if this kind spit their venom or not, but the very idea of it made him nearly panic.

His hand had lowered a bit, but he rose it again, his hand shaking. He never thought himself to be afraid of snakes, but when faced with one about twice his height he was terrified.

"V-vipera Evan-evanesca!" Nothing happened. "Vipera E-evanesca!" Again nothing. He shot a look at Haley.

Lesson Two - Second Years Empty Re: Lesson Two - Second Years

Post by Haley Vilde Smith Mon Mar 05, 2012 7:07 am

Haley noticed how Parker seemed to stiffen a bit, and when he stuttered out the spell twice without succeeding, she looked at him. He looked at her. She smiled.

"King Cobra's only attack when they sense real danger. I'm ready, Parker. If it gets too close, I'll vanish it," she said softly, suppressing her stress.

She knew that there were three options here. One; Parker managed to remove it himself. Two; Haley would remove it. Three; if neither of the two above worked, professor Romain would have their back. So she wasn't scared.

"Clear your head, Parker. You can do it," she said as softly as she could, adding a good deal of trust towards Parker in her voice.

She knew he could do it, on this try or another. He would succeed.

Post by Parker Emery Mon Mar 05, 2012 7:19 am

With Haley's reassurance, he looked back to the huge snake, typing to gulp down his panic, push it aside and focus. Focus, Parker, focus.

He took a deep breath or to, trying to steady his hand. If he didn't Haley would, nothing would happen, everything would be find. When he had aim, he closed his eyes, imagining the snake disappearing, like Haley did the the coral snake.

He opened his eyes again, flicking his wand and calling out the spell yet again. It seemed to have worked but the snake had moved to the side, opening it's hooded head again. Frustrated that it hadn't worked, he put his whole arm and upper body into the movement, yelling out, exasperated, "Vipera Evanesca!!"

He took in and let out a deep breath at it struck the snake, seeming to burn it up like Haley had done to his.

Haley breathed out in victory as Parker removed the snake. She grinned at him, giving him a big hug.

"See?" she said happily, letting go, "Amazing!"

She was so happy at that moment that she would've started jumping up and down, doing a victory pose if it weren't for the fact that she was in class. But she was very happy that they had both managed to vanish the snake, and summon it. It was much better than last lesson, at least.

Post by Parker Emery Mon Mar 05, 2012 7:31 am

Parker couldn't believe it. He did it, he actually did it! He smiled brightly, as she hugged him excitedly. He had never gotten so worked up and outwardly frustrated like that before and it almost felt freeing in a way.

When she let go, he was still smiling and he looked over to where the snake was, then at his hands and wand. He really did that. Though he knew he'd be screwed if placed in a real dangerous situation. He wouldn't have time to find his focus or for multiple tries.

He realized he felt very worn out. The sheer amount of force and frustration he had apparently put behind the spell took a lot out of him. "I-I think we should go sit back down, I don't think I'm up for a second round-"

Haley instantly got worried when Parker suddenly looked very tired. Then she noticed it herself, when the adrenaline left her body. She was feeling a bit tired too.

She grabbed Parker's arm and dragged him over to one of the chairs, making a fuss out of the tiredness.

"Well, we sure as hell managed it, then we get to be tired as well," she said jokingly, but not loudly; she didn't want to disturb those who kept going.

She sat down on a chair and sank together, taking deep breaths to regain her strength, watching the other students in the meantime.
