Second Year: Second Lesson - Page 2 Empty Re: Second Year: Second Lesson

Post by Tess McCartney Thu Mar 01, 2012 10:50 am

She was relieved at the fact that she had managed to get in the class. She would have probably been late, had it not been for her Time Turner. She had used it now while one of her was in Potions class, the other had gotten in Occlumency class on time.

She had managed to see what had happened to Haley, but she knew how to camouflage herself. She decided to enter the same time as Keiba and sat down at the back. Seeing that Victoria entered, she shook her head. Perhaps she should use it with her too.

"Stand up straight, breath deeply in, hold it for a second and breath out, be calm first, do this for a couple of time and then try to think nothing. It's hard to explain, but when you put yourself to it, it's quite easy. Let's begin!"

She did was she was told, and closed her eyes immediately. She began to follow the breathing techniques:

In and out, in and out, in and out like a mantra.

Meditation helped her a great deal and soon, her mind was clear. Soon she felt nothing, she saw nothing, and she knew it was time.

Victoria stood and caught a glimpse of Tess out of the corner of her eye. She hadn't even seen her when she walked in. Hmm.

Focus! She closed her eyes and tried to focus on her breathing, but her nerves were getting to her. Shaking out her hands she tried to start with a calm place, like how the Patronus Charm needs a happy memory. She thought of the sky, and the grass, and a grass bracelet...

It wasn't working. That only lead to more thoughts, not less. Calm. Breathe. Relax. She visualized the sun from that day growing brighter and blocking everything else out. Engulfed in light, she tried to let everything else fall away.

Keiba stood, and calmly did as the Professor instructed. She breathed in and out deeply, closing her eyes. It wasn't long before the now-familiar emptiness closed in on her conscience. The blackness took over and when she opened her blue eyes they were blank and lifeless, shallow, nothing behind them. She stared around the room with a zombie-like appearance, devoid of emotion and thought.

No one could say she hadn't practiced.

Gaspard began to roam around the classroom, looking at his students. Smiling at their improvements. He was quite when he walked not wanting to interrupt them from their concentration.

Fifteen minutes passed and he could see that all of them had their mind clear of thoughts.

"Very well. I'm happy to see that all of you could clear your thoughts. Miss. Smith you did very well, I suggest you stand straighter though. Miss. McCartney, you have improved immensely. Miss. Rossmund, you need to focus more on yourself and not what is around you, be calm, try to mediate, you did well, but it took you some time to get there, practice more. And Miss. Namid, I'm glad to see that you have practiced." He clapped his hands, making them focus on him.

"Now I want to tell you that I put the room this way to distract you, those of you who came last week know how I had the class. In real life you won't be in a place where there will be peace, say that you are facing an enemy and there's a battle between wizards and kragens? You need to be prepared for any type of distractions." Gaspard told them seriously, "If all goes well, maybe next class we might go by the lake to block our emotions."

Gaspard walked where the window was facing the lake, "Does anyone want to start on blocking me?"

Tess' eyes fluttered open and she smiled satisfied that she had managed to do it. She was glad that the Professor had told her that she had improved for her had tried really hard. Hearing his question, she raised her hand softly.

"May I try?" she asked softly.

She wanted to see if she could possibly block him. She had tried before and it had failed greatly, but she had tried hard. Now she felt that she was ready to try again and perhaps she could block him longer.

Gaspard smiled at seeing someone participating.

"Of course, Miss. McCartney. Please stand up." He said, his wand was out.

"Legilimens!"

Tess did as she was asked and she closed her eyes trying to concentrate on her breathing. She knew that she had a little bit of time, but she wasn't expecting it to be that fast. She was shocked as she heard him call out the spell.

It bombarded most of her wall, but she immediately blocked all of her surroundings. Her heart was beating fast and she felt herself weaken.

'Stop' she thought.

As she said this phrase she began to close her mind slowly bit by bits, but still a small image was not being able to be hidden: When she was attacked by mermaids. It was so clear, but she tried to cover the damn image as much as she could. She couldn't really hold up the wall and as much as she tried, she closed her eyes tight and it crumbled easily.

Gaspard saw the memory of her being attacked by a mermaid, and felt sympathy for her. He remembered the time when he was attacked by one, it was not pretty.

Lowering his wand, he said, "Of this I was talking about, your enemy won't give you five minutes to be prepared, at any given moment you must be ready. You have to be on guard, not be distracted. Miss. McCartney, you did very well on my short notice, five points to Slytherin."

Looking at his watch he frowned, "Class is over. You all did a great job, each are improving and I'll tall to the headmistress if we can take the next lesson by the lake, if your ready of course. The only homework for now is to practice." He said to his students.

Tess opened her eyes and felt a headache coming on. She touched her head lightly and inwardly groaned at the pulsing beat that her head throbbed. She walked towards her desk and picked up her things.

She didn't want to meet anyone's gaze, for the memory that come out of her head was still fresh. She gripped her books tight and murmured to Victoria.

"Ready to go?" she whispered.

Seeing how frazzled Tess was after that last...attack? What would you call it? A demonstration?...Victoria knew she needed to get out of here. She couldn't begin to imagine what the professor had seen, but it didn't seem to be anything good.

Packing up her things as well she hooked her arm through Tess's, trying to give her support. "Yeah. Let's get to dinner, I'm starving!" Though that was nothing new. Victoria was always hungry.

Tess smiled softly and nodded. She was glad to have a friend like her, especially since she understood that she didn't really want to talk about it. She laughed softly and walked out with her, not before commenting.

"Thanks" she whispered softly not having to explain herself so much.
