Background Information:

The Doctor was brought up in Switzerland until the age of 11, where his family moved to Germany to give him a better education at Durmstrang. Through his school years, The Doctor's family became part of a bitter family feud with another pureblood family. Largely removed from the bitter attacks, The Doctor flourished at Durmstrang, showing amazing intellect and almost unparalelled duelling skill. Once he left school, The Doctor took stock of both families in the fued and he dispaired. His own family, once reknowned for being purely light magic users, had decended into the darkest of arts in order to fight a series of running battles with the other family.
Unable to live with what both families had become, evil and twisted, The Doctor was able to lure both sides into having a holiday beside a lake in Northern Poland. The official line is that both Families wiped each other out upon realising who they were sharing a lake with. What actually happened was that when both families were inside, The Doctor activated the rune circles around the lake area, trapping them within. It was then, after seeing that they would still not stop their fueding, that The Doctor made a decision that haunts him to this day. Activating another rune circle, The Doctor sucked out all of the oxygen from inside the lake area, killing every man, woman and child in both families.
