The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
The Doctor sat at the table nursing a very alcoholic drink. He had asked for the strongest thing in the joint and they'd given it to him without question. He hadn't asked what was in it and that was probably a good thing. It was probably best not to know what went into making such a terrifyingly strong drink.
But right now, even as he swallowed some, he couldn't really feel it. He couldn't really feel anything right now other than a deep, all-encompassing, rage. The British Rebels had taken the love of his life away from him. He wanted revenge. He wanted their blood.
It was denied him.
Leon had forbidden him from going after the rebels for revenge and he was left alone to simply stew in his anger.

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
Christopher had been shocked to here what had happened to the Doctor as a result of the actions of the British rebels, and he had decided that he needed to be able to go and apologise to him first hand, it wouldn't be good enough to do it via a letter.
He was so determined to do this he had managed to shake off his body guards and come to the Golden Street in Germany, he had been here many a time when he was a laison, and he knew his way well.
When he pushed his way into the pub, he could almost feel the anger coming off of the Doctor in rolls and waves, but he steeled himself and stepped closer to him, placing himself on the seat next to him.
"Hello Doctor." he said quietly.

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
When The Doctor saw someone sitting in the seat next to him he paid them no mind. He didn't care. They could sit wherever they liked as long as they didn't disturb him. He just wanted to be left alone to his anger, left alone to brood.
But when the person spoke his anger immediately spiked. It wasn't so much what the old man had said as how he had said it. The old man had a British accent. He squeezed and the glass in his hand smashed,
"You have a lot of nerve coming to see me English." he hissed quietly, "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't break every one of your bones."

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
Christopher blinked and couldn't help but jump a little when the Doctor hissed and the glass broke, did all German men have a habit of breaking glasses when they were annoyed? After all Leon had done it too when he had been irate.
"I think that it would be an awfully silly waste of your time to do that to a man who has done you no harm." he said quietly and calmly as he made himself comfortable.
Taking off his hat and his gloves he placed them on the bar and smiled gently once more;
"I came to apologize to you, if you are willing to accept it."

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
The Doctor turned to glare at Christopher with all of his anger and hatred flashing in his eyes. He didn't like killing anyone but right now it looked as if he was about to do it with a shard of glass,
"You are British." he declared coldly, "I wanted to kill a certain group of British people. Now, I'm probably more than slightly drunk and the fact that my revenge is stopped makes me very angry. You're British and you're within arms reach. Think very careful about what that means."
When he said that he was here to apologize, The Doctor's eyes narrowed,
"What do you have to apologize for if you weren't part of the group that did it?"

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
Christopher brushed aside the threats and he wondered if he was going to keep being threatened for the entire duration of this conversation, it would begin to get rather old if it was going to be this way. Sighing a little, he placed his fingers on the bridge of his glasses.
"I think you should think about what would happen to you if, and when, both my Ministry and yours finds out you've killed me, I rather think Leon likes me." he smiled softly.
Shaking his head, Chris kept the same warm and disarming smile;
"No I was not, but if our prior Minister kept them on a tight enough leash, this would have never happened, and...I just wanted to apologise because I felt it was the proper thing to do. I wanted to see if you were coping..."

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
The Doctor saw that the old man was not going to leave him alone because of his threats alone and gritted his teeth. He could make good on his threats right now and kill the man but even in his rage he'd kept up with the news. It wasn't worth causing an international incident over,
"If it happened the way we both think it would then I would have no problems with it." he declared coldly, "I plan on going to my love at some point anyway. An execution would just make the reunion quicker."
The Doctor turned to Christopher, a small amount of disblief mixed in with the anger now,
"Are you kidding me? They don't need a leash. They need to be put down, they're a rapid animal and they need putting down." he argued before laughed bitterly, "How does it look like I'm coping? I'll answer. I'm not."

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
Christopher was saddened by the change in this peace loving man and if he could help him then he would do, there was a time when he was like this after the death of his wife, until he internalised it, it was something that he had gotten over however, he had gotten used to the lonliness.
The Doctors was still fresh and painful however.
"We both know that the only thing that would solve is your temporary pain, think about all the things that you wanted in your life, you cant throw it away." he said quietly "Even if you can't live without the pain."
He did not like the way that he reffered to his British as an animal, but what they had done had been inherrently wrong. He did not condone it at all.
"I can see that you are not coping sir, and you need to let all your emotions out, I understand how important it is for that, but, all I can do is tell you how deeply, deeply sorry I am that this was allowed to happen to you."

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
The Doctor could feel the old man's sense of disapproval and disappointment. The difference was that whereas before he might have cared, right now he just didn't. Oh it might change in time but he doubted it. He was still so very angry all the time after all,
"And if all I wanted was to fix the temporary pain? Maybe that's the pain that I can't deal with?" he questioned without looking at Christopher, "My life... everything I worked for... was geared towards her. How do you just... get a new life?"
The Doctor didn't look at Christopher. He didn't trust himself not to tear out the man's throat with his bare hands. He sighed a little bit and shook his head,
"I can't let my emotions out." he muttered quietly, "Especially not during term time. I don't want to risk hurting the students."

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
Christopher smiled sadly, he was oh too familiar with this emotion, he had been through the exact same thing before, and he didn't know if he should tell the Doctor this or save it for another occassion he didn't want to be seen to belittle his situation.
"It takes a long time, it takes a long and painful process, but you find other things to live for, nothing replaces the people we lose, nothing could ever do that, but we find things to distract ourselves from our pain." he smiled gently.
When The Doctor said he could not let his emotions out during term time, Christopher merely nodded and looked around the pub that they were currently in.
"There arent any students here, and I'm old enough and stupid enough to allow you to let your emotions out on me, it's nothing I've not heard before I assure you." he said sincerly.

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
The Doctor glanced at the man as he tried to talk him down from his rage. To be honest he wasn't sure if it was going to work but he was willing to give it a shot. Viktoria wouldn't want him being depressed, let alone angry,
"I guess the hardest roads just have to be the longest too." he replied with a small sigh before groaning, "I don't want to move on though Rubin. I don't want to betray her memory by not thinking about her, by finding something to specifically keep my mind off of her."
He sighed a little bit and gave Christopher a side-long glance,
"You don't know how fast the gossip travels Rubin. It'll be in school by tomorrow." he remarked with the faintest of smirks before shrugging a little bit, "I don't much feel like it now. Letting out your anger loses it's appeal when someone volunteers to take it."

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
Christopher smiled gently and nodded, it seemed as if his approach was calming the Doctor and it was something that he was glad of, he was happy that he seemed to be working on his anger until hopefully it would stay away for a long while.
"You wont betray her memory Doctor, you know that you will never be able to forget the love that you hold for her, it is nigh impossible to, why don't you make something to remember her by, a monument, or somewhat, you can visit it every day, make her part of your routine, so you never forget her."
The speech he had just made surprised Christopher and he wondered why it had come so easily to him, maybe because it is what he did when his wife died.
"Exactly why I offered, risky tactic, but nine times out of ten people refrain from beating up the old man who's trying to help." he laughed gently.

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
The Doctor didn't know why he wasn't quite as angry as he was before but it might have had something to do with the fact that the old man was just too cute, for lack of a better word, to terrorise. That and it was always hard work to stay that angry all of the time,
"But everytime I think about her it is impossible not to think about her murder. A murder I want to avenge, so that she can rest." he replied before shrugging a little bit, "I'll have a think but I still say that I have to get some measure of revenge."
The Doctor looked at Christopher strangely when he was finished with his speech. It was strange to hear because not a single part of it seemed rehearsed but at the same time it sounded like something he knew off by heart,
"Yes well it's hard to find someone willing to beat up a man who looks like Santa Claus."

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
Christopher couldn't help but be a little bit sheepish, he was dangerously close to giving one of his most sensitive secrets away to someone on the German side, not like they could do much about it any more he supposed, they had already done their worst.
"Avenge her by showing the British that you shall not be felled by what they have done to you, show the rebels your strength, avenge her by remaining the man she loved while she was alive."
His hand closed on his wedding ring and he took a deep breath, he did want to tell the Doctor that he knew this for a reason, but, he did not think it was the right time to tell him.
Laughing loudly, Christopher wiped the tears form under his glasses; "Now, that is a nickname that I have heard a million times over, it never gets boring however, I kind og enjoy it in fact." he smiled gently.

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
The Doctor could see that Christopher was beginning to get a little apprehensive about talking to him and couldn't really understand why. The man wasn't a coward and The Doctor had stopped using death threats already,
"So what you're saying... is that it's like that old saying? 'The best revenge is living a long and happy life'?" He questioned before scowling, "What am I supposed to do? Let them do to others what they did to her? You can't understand this Rubin."
He raised an eyebrow when Christopher laughed happily at having been called Santa Claus. It was rather odd to find someone who enjoyed being nicknamed after a jolly fat man,
"Well I guess it's the beard." The Doctor commented with a small shrug, "Or the air around you that says children would like you."

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
Christopher bristled a little bit and he was a little angry that the Doctor would think that he was just going to sit here and lecture him about something that he knew nothing about, that was one of the things that personally annoyed Christopher.
Taking a small intake of breath Christopher clasped his hands on the bar and looked into the Doctors eyes;
"Now, don't you speak of things you don't know yourself Doctor. I know how you feel all too well, I felt the same way when German rebels killed my wife." he said quietly "Pregnant with my little girl at the time..."
Screwing up his face to stop the tears from escaping as they pricked the corners of his eyes, he merely gave a small chuckle and looked at the Doctor again, his face a mask of sadness;
"It was meant to be me too, funny how these people can't get their own marks right hmm? But I'm still here, I'm making a difference to my country, and I know you will once you have stopped greiving."

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
The Doctor could tell that what he'd said had hit a nerve because of the way that Christopher bristled and seemed to sit up straighter. If he had to guess then he'd say the man thought he had some business telling The Doctor what he should do. When Christopher told him the reason he couldn't help but blink a few times. Whatever reason he'd been expecting that was not the one he received,
"You have been condolences Mr Rubin." he replied before he frowned, "But I can't help but feel that you should understand and accept my anger more if that is the case. Are you telling me you didn't want revenge?"
The Doctor looked at the other man, who quite clearly had felt his own pain. Seeing Christopher cry, The Doctor pulled a hankerchief from the inside of his jacket and handed it to the man,
"Yes, very funny that they all seem to be terrible marskmen." he remarked dryly, not feeling he could laugh at that, "I don't know when that will be though Rubin."

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
Christopher smiled warmly at the Doctor, he knew that he would now understand his presence here and just why he felt like he should come and say sorry to the man for what his Government had allowed to happen, but it would occur no more now that he was leader.
Laughing gently he shook his head;
"No no silly man, Beatrix would never have wanted that, so I did, what I do best, I drank copius amounts of tea, sometimes with liquor in and sometimes without, and I showed them, I showed them." he said proudly.
Taking the handkercheif he shook his head and dabbed at his tears; "Oh look at me getting in a state like this, you never will stop completely Doctor, it is impossible, but you will find that you gain the will do go out, to live once more...fairly soon if I have my way." he smiled.

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
It was clear to The Doctor now why the man had come to apologize when he had not been involved in the attack. Due to a similar experience, Christopher felt that what had happened was his fault because he had found himself unable to prevent it. When Christopher told him exactly what he had done to get over the anger, The Doctor couldn't help but chuckle and shake his head,
"Viktoria would have wanted me to have many tea parties and all of them with a silly dress code like something out of Alice in Wonderland." he joked before shaking his head, "But I don't think I can do that. It's too painful."
The Doctor gave Christopher a wry smile, "Never completely stop it huh? Well aren't you a ray of sunshine? As for living my life beyond this... how long did it take for you to get to that point Rubin?"

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
Christopher smiled gently and it was very good to hear that the lady in question would have wanted the same thing as his Beatrix, it was lovely to hear that she might be able to persuade the Doctor to stop himself from descending into the pain and terror that came with loss.
"I should have very much liked to have met this young lady, I would have enjoyed many cups of tea with her I have no doubt, but of course it is too painful now Doctor, of course, but in the future...perhaps?" he asked with an eyebrow cocked.
Laughing warmly he nodded his head and wound his fingers together, it was nice to see that he was having a positive effect on the German in front of him;
"There is always darkness in someones life, even Santa Claus', and, it took me a few years, but then again, I lost two people, not just one." he said quietly.

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
Although Viktoria would have wanted him to have one of their tea parties in her honour, he was unsure that he'd be able to. It would remind him so much of her. Of course he wanted nothing more than to continue his revenge though. The anger was still there after all, it was just beneath the surface now,
"She was a delight to meet, always had a way to make people smile and feel better about themselves." he told Christopher before shrugging a little bit, "We shall see in the future Mr Rubin. In the fullness of time."
He nodded in agreement,
"Yes you lost two people instead of just one. I lost one person who was about to give me the answer to my proposal." he replied before shaking his head, "I'll need at least as long as you Mr Rubin. We can't all be as naturally forgiving as Santa Claus."

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
Christopher smiled gently when the Doctor seemed to be coming around to some sort of calmer state, at least the anger was under the surface for now, perhaps he would be able to comfort him a little bit more before he had to leave.
"Ah, she sounds exactly like my wife." he said with a happy, if not wry smile "All men describe their wives like that I should think, or I would hope to think anyway."
When he was given a sort of backhanded compliment, Christopher smiled gently, he was naturally forgiving and resilient, it was another reason why he had been elected he thought.
"Just know, that if you should ever need to talk, before you do something rash, you know where to find me Mr. Nettle." he smiled warmly at the man and patted his shoulder.

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
The anger was still simmering just underneath the surface but The Doctor felt that he could carry a conversation on now without being rude. After all, the man was trying to help him, he didn't deserve to have his head bitten off,
"Well perhaps they do. I suppose each of them then says that their wife is actually like that, even if she isn't?" he joked lightly before shaking his head, "I wouldn't know about that though. She didn't say yes after all."
The Doctor didn't know why Christopher had been elected when he was so forgiving. A war with such a man in control was sure to be a very strange experience,
"I'm afraid that, unless you're going to be visiting Germany regularly we won't have time to talk much." The Doctor replied with a small amount of regret, "After all, I'm not welcome in your country."

The Doctor didn't know why Christopher had been elected when he was so forgiving. A war with such a man in control was sure to be a very strange experience,

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
Christopher hummed a little bit and he wondered if there was a way that he could allow the Doctor to calm himself down a little bit, internally as well as outwardly, maybe if he was able to say goodbye to his love properly it would be better.
"If you could find out if she would have said yes, would it make you feel any better about the situation?" he asked, with a small twinkle in his eyes, as if he was beginning to formulate some sort of plan in his mind.
When he said that he wasn't welcome in his country Christopher looked shocked and he shook his head, taking out his notebook he wrote this down and quickly placed it back.
"Well well well that will just not do!" he said with a frown on his face "You are always welcome in my Ministry, just let us know you're coming hmm? So we dont think you're here to blow us up." he grinned warmly.

Re: The Seething (Doctor and Christopher)
The Doctor had never gotten the answer to the question he'd asked Viktoria and he knew that that was going to push him very far. He wanted to know if she wanted to be his wife and now, thanks to the British rebels, he would be unable to do so. Unable to spend the rest of his life with her,
"Yes. No.... maybe." The Doctor replied, not certain at all, "I don't know Mr Rubin. Would it make me feel better to know I'd lost a future wife?"
The Doctor chuckled a little bit before shaking his head,
"Oh it's nothing official Mr Rubin but do you really think your rebels will let me step onto your shores unopposed?" he replied, slightly amused before shrugging, "I'll think about it. If I decide to come I'll send an owl ahead of me."
