Lesson 4: Second Years Empty Lesson 4: Second Years

Post by EleriDdriag Tue Mar 27, 2012 3:08 am

Professor Eleri Ddriag sat reading her favourite Potions book whilst waiting for her second year students to enter the classroom, her large black and white cat sat purring at her feet and her emerald green dragon resting on the back of her chair and reading over her shoulder.

Lesson 4: Second Years Empty Re: Lesson 4: Second Years

Ulrich entered the classroom humming a muggle tune to himself. He smiled at the Leher before softly bending down to pet the cat and listen to it's purr.

"Hey Leher... yeah." He trailed off looking away. Charms teachers never seemed to stay the same he thought to himself and seating himself down at one of the desks leaning back in his chair and humming again.

Lesson 4: Second Years Empty Re: Lesson 4: Second Years

Lucian walked at a leisurely pace to his Charms classroom, last time he had heard there was a substitute and as such hadn't bothered to attend, but now they had a new Professor and he was eager to try and leanr something for her.

After all their old teacher had been pretty much useless, even though it was funny how she made Terrence dance at the front of the class that one time.

Opening the door he looked at the two people in there, the Professor and a student, before nodding.

"Yo."

After looking at her watch, Eleri looked up at the waiting students.
"Right, I'll start the lesson." She smiled at them.
She walked up to the blackboard and drew a series of simple wand movements before turning back to view her class.
"Now, from what I've heard you haven't had much luck with Charms Teachers this year but hopefully you'll enjoy class with me. If any of you are interested then I can give you a second-year syllabus so you can study on your own.
I am Professor Eleri Ddriag. Now, the lesson for today is on shield charms. Can anyone tell me an instance where a shield charm would be useful? Extra house points for thinking out of the box!" She said in her soft Welsh lilt.

Lesson 4: Second Years Empty Re: Lesson 4: Second Years

Lucian raised his eyebrow slightly when he heard that his Professor was talking in a slightly Welsh accent, he wondered if she was going to be given a hard time because she was from Britain by the rest of the Professors, especially the Sweeney, he only hoped that she wouldn't get that much attention.

When the question was asked, Lucian tried to think of an answer outside of the box, although he couldn't quite get one himself, he knew what it did. Raising his hand he said;

"Well, you could use a sheild spell to avoid getting hit by anything, so it could be useful in food fights in the school dining hall if they got out of hand, as well as against other spells and attacks."

"That's very true, 20 points to Verstand. Other examples could be that in Potions, you could use one to avoid getting any of the Potion on you or to avoid someone else throwing something into your cauldron. They could even be used for something like to avoid sickness as it would block the bacteria." She smiled. A flick of her wand had the chalk writing the word 'Munio' on the board.
"The charm I'm going to teach you is actually the most simple one but there are many others. The incantation is 'Munio'. Now, Toulouse, my cat is going to help with the practice. I'd like each of you to try and perform the shield and Toulouse will try to walk up to you. Points will be awarded for effective shields." She added, nodding to her cat.

Lucian looked at the other student and noted that he didn't seem to be going for it so he stood up and thought that he would be best going first, after all, there was no point in just sitting there and wasting the lesson doing nothing, pulling out his wand he took a swift look at the cat beside him and was wondering why it wasn't freaking out, most animals did around him.

"Well here goes." he said more to himself than anything else "Munio." Lucian said clearly and hoped that he had pronounced it in the same way that the professor had done so that it would work, after all he would look pretty stupid if he hadn't and the spell failed.

Lesson 4: Second Years Empty Re: Lesson 4: Second Years

Eleri watched as one of her students attempted the shield and Toulouse started to walk towards him. About 6 inches from him, Toulouse had to stop because of the shield which held for about 5 minutes before it failed and Toulouse went and hopped up on his lap.
"Well done! 10 points to Verstand. You might have noticed the fact that your shield only extended 6 inches from you and that it failed after 5 minutes. That's simply because you need some more practice, for a first attempt that was exceedingly well done!" She smiled before looking at her cat.
"Toulouse, get down now!" She called but the cat just looked at her. With a sigh she pulled out a packet of cat treats and opened it. Immediately the cat jumped down and ran to her, begging for a treat. She got him to perform a few tricks like sitting on command and standing on his hind legs for a few treats. While putting away the packet, she looked at the students.
"Sorry about that. I think he liked you." She smiled at the student who'd just performed the charm before looking around the classroom.
"Would anyone else like to try?" She asked.
