Lesson 1 Second Years Empty Lesson 1 Second Years

Post by Guest Tue Apr 17, 2012 3:03 pm

Jonathan didn't spend much time on the owl to Emilia during the last class so he decided that he would work on it while he waited for the second years too arrive.

First he walked around the classroom placing a syllabus on all of the desks.

Week 1- Orbit of Planets
Week 2- The Moon
Week 3- Phases of the Moon
Week 4- Moons of Saturn

Handing those out he went back to his desk to work on the owl waiting for the students to arrive.

Hoping that she wouldn't be the only student in class this period, Annika hurried to astronomy smiling at the memory of the charms class. Wouldn't it be great if all her classes were like that. Astronomy was interesting and she wanted to do well. The stars had always fascinated her and learning about them was exciting. Her Papa told her all kinds of stories about the planets and how they got their names when she was little. Most of them were made up she suspected, because they were always about a family of little girls, a papa and a mama and the people they would meet. It would be really nice to hear the real stories. Walking in she saw that Alex was in her class. Glad to see a familiar face she took a seat near her and smiled, hoping that she wasn't still upset. Picking up the syllabus, she put her satchel on the floor and began reading.

Jonathan noticed that he had a couple of students in the class so he thought he would go ahead and begin.

"So can either of me tell me what you know about the plants around us and how they orbit?"

Raising her hand timidly Annika replied, "Well, sir, there are nine planets and they orbit around the sun. But sir, I was wondering, where is Gallifrey? Oh, and what holds the planets in place?"

Suddenly she realized that she had mentioned Gallifrey, She hadn't meant to , it just sort of popped out. She had heard myths about the distant planet as a child from her grandmother and always wanted to know more, even though she had been told not to talk about it outside of Oma's house. Another big mistake!

Jonathan had to smirk at the young students question and if it wasn't from him actually knowing about the muggle TV show he would have never known.

"Gallifrey, I am afraid does not exist other than in the minds of Muggle TV writers.' Jonathan had to smile

"Gravity, that is the simple answer" Jonathan knew that everything in space depended on the gravitational pull.

Jonathan looked around the room, "So Ms. Hawthorn do you have anything to add."

Alex looked up and she shook her head " No sir" Alex said sitting up straight 'Gallifrey?' Alex thought she blinked Alex had never heard of a planet called Gallifrey unless it was in muggle tv shows.

Alex looked at Annika and Alex felt sorry for the girl, Alex sighed quietly and she rubbed the side of her head, as the migrane started to subside.

confused Annika lowered her eyes embarrassed at the professor's remarks. "Surely Oma wasn't telling me made up stories for all those years. She always prided herself on being honest and truthful in everything she said. She had no patience for fibs or 'stories' from others." Annika was really confused now and didn't know what to think. she had best just keep her mouth shut like Oma had always told her when they discussed the subject at home. It would be their secret from now on. she took out her quill and parchment and began writing the information as it was being given to her.

Jonathan had not meant to make the girl feel bad, but sometimes he did not like it when parents told stories and made their children believe them.

"Well 20 points for both of you for you participation, plus another 5 for attendence. You have a nice weekend. Class dismissed."

Jonathan went over to his desk to write out an owl for Lia to see if she wanted to meet him for munch tomorrow.

Annika quickly and quietly grabbed her things and hurried from the class with out looking at anyone, especially the professor. She just knew he thought she was telling stories too. whatever would her family do if he wrote a letter to them
She just wanted to get to the dorms and snuggle with Emmi for a minute. she was so upset that she didn't watch her way and ended up taking a wrong turn. Slightly disoriented she sat down for a minute to catch her breath and her composure before starting off again to the dorm. Hoping that no one was in the common room, she stood by the door and got ready to enter. Just then a strange thought came to her mind and she knew that her Oma was trying to talk to her. It was something she had done before, but never from this far away. It was calming and reassuring to the point where she was able to go into the common room and to her dorm without any emotion showing on her face. It wasn't until she was in her room that she finally broke down.
