Lesson 1 First Years

Sofia had her room set up the same way as she had been doing it. In the front of the classroom in a circle is all of the mats and in the back was the desks.

Sofia had redone her lessons plans a little she wanted things to be a little different.

She placed a stack of Syllabus's on a table at the front door and waited for the class to arrive.

Syllabus Year 1

Week 1- Introduction to Divination
Week 2- Mediation
Week 3- Different types of gifts
Week 4- Control of Gifts

Sofia went and took a spot on her usual mat and began her mediation.

"Top of the morning to you Miss slytherin" Rassilion said with a chirpy and chipper voice as he walked into the classroom full of awe. To his shock though he actually managed to make it to a seat without tripping over himself and making himself look like a total fool...granted he essentially was a total fool but behind the insanity was a warm heart and a creative soul.

It soon dawned on him that besides basic introduction he had no idea of what his professor was like and this revelation caused him to become very quiet, simply resorting to staring at the teacher with anticipation.

Sofia heard a voice that brought her out of her mediation and she turned around to see that she had only one student in her class. It was not strange for her to only see one, this class was hard for some people to understand.

"Welcome to my class Mr. Everglade. The Irish poet and painter. Please join me on the mats and we shall start." Sofia smiled. She hoped he would feel a little more comfortable around her.

"So what do you know about Divination?"

Rassilion edged to the front and sat down on a matt looking up at his professor

"how did you know I was a writer?" he said in awe before being snapped to attention by her question

"well to my understanding, It is an art form by which we use a variety of techniques to view the world in different ways and in some cases different time periods to what we currently inhabit" He waffled on hoping desperately to impress in his first lesson

Since he was small he had always loved looking up at the stars and the concept of Divination, being able to learn more and under the wing of the amazing Sofia Slytherin was an honour

Sofia had to smile at the young man, "That is one of my gifts, I know many things."

Sofia listened to his explanation and found it interesting, never heard anyone put it quite that way.

"That is a very interesting can you explain it, I mean what kind of techniques your are talking about."

Sofia was sure she might have just met her mental match, this young man was diffendently intriguing.

"I only know about stars, crystal balls and tes leaves" he said looking downwards feeling that after a rather solid and show offish start he may now have let his teacher down

"but that is why I am here I suppose...to learn more!" he quickly added hoping to drag something back from his feeling of failure

he briefly scribbled a few things on a crumpled up piece of parchment and then looked up at Sofia, straight into her eyes

Sofia smile at the young man, "Yes those are things that we will learn in third year." Sofia could tell he was a very bright young man even if he didn't think so.

"This year we are just going to learn basic stuff, and the most important part of anything you do with divination is always meditation."

Sofia was always stresses the importance of meditation because it helps clear the mind.

"What do you know of meditation?"

"you sit quietly, clear your mind and let the universe flow through you" Rassilion said smiling, shifting his seating position into a more comfortable one

"Divination is finding respect and harmony with the forces we cannot see or control" he said exhaling a deep breath and closing his eyes

Sofia's kind nature was putting him at ease at last and he felt relaxed in the room with her

he was going to enjoy this lesson

Sofia really like this student and could see him taking apprenticeship with her when he hit the third year mark.

Sofia was really intrigued by what this young man was saying, teaching this young man one could almost throw out the syllabus because you could talk about a wide arrange of things.

"You sound like you use mediation a lot yourself, do you have a favorite position in which to mediate?" Sofia wondered how long he had been doing it or if not how he learned so much.

"I don't really meditate like this..." he said opening his eyes again, "I just wander and let my mind "I the same" he added

"My family focuses its magic on agricultural means to help run the house and its farm plots" he sighed

Rassilion was a free spirit and didn't like the thought of being tied down, he was a dreamer and he wanted to go to places and see things that other people could only read about.

Sofia could understand his ways of mediation.

"I also do a lot of mind clearing while I am walking around my lake at my house." Sofia had to laugh, "Its a lot more comfortable than sitting on the floor.

Sofia found it interesting learning about this young man, not too many times do you get to have one-on-one with a student.

"So what kind of agricultural business is your family into?"

Sofia asked the question and then realized what time it was. "Maybe we can continue this next time..Your dismissed."
