He's a strange man. He has a laid back, carefree attitude, though, being a scientist at heart, he can always be found in the Hospital Wing, or his private lab in the dungeons.

He's a chronic smoker, and always has a cigarette hanging from his mouth. A small habit of his is to turn the knob sticking out of his head. He's always carefree, and never really gets offended, unless someone makes fun of a creation of his. Then, he gets mad, real mad. If a student insults him, he usually straps them down to a table, and plays mind games with them, a favorite past time of his.

History:
Frank Stein was born on the 20th of August, 1920, to John and Elena Stein in London. They were scientists and Healers at St. Mungos, always cooped up in their personal lab, trying to make revolutionary discoveries. Though they didn't manage to make any discoveries that hadn't already been made. Frank grew up with that, sitting in their lab, just watching them, asking questions, and occasionally getting to do some work himself.

He became a miniature scientist himself, fascinated with all the complexities of the human body, the human brain, and everything. At age eleven, he got his Hogwarts letter. Frank was ecstatic. A whole new world opened to him, the secrets of Hogwarts were many, after all. He happily enrolled at Hogwarts, where he was placed in Ravenclaw, due to his fine mind.

He was an outcast, though, since, even by Ravenclaw standards, he was a bookworm, and just plain creepy, since he was eying his fellow students as if they were research specimens. He was made Prefect in his fifth year, why, only God knows. He was pretty sure that their Transfigurations professor, Albus Dumbledore, had objected to this, but the current Headmaster obviously didn't listen.

Needless to say, Frank was a poor Prefect, and he asked several times for someone else to be appointed the position, since this would impair on his reading and research. His pleads fell on deaf ears. So, he decided to make the most of it, and spent the time when he was supposed to patrol the halls with trying to discover as much as possible about the school. In his seventh and last year at Hogwarts, he immediately took an interest in Tom Riddle, a first year Slytherin. Frank had no doubt that this kid was interesting, but he was never allowed to do any research on him.

When he graduated, Frank moved away from London, deciding to travel the world, and discover new things, what with his parents both being dead from an explosion in their lab. Frank had mourned for weeks when that happened, and vowed to be the greatest scientist in the world, in honor of his parents' memory. So, he traveled for years, only staying in one place for longer than a few days if he found something interesting, which said a lot, since he spent 40 years traveling the world.

Having taken Ancient Runes during his time in Hogwarts, and being very proficient in it, Frank tried to stay young for as long as possible. So, at age 30, he started cutting off his own skin, one piece at the time. Once he'd cut off a piece, he carved a preservation rune into it, and sewed it back on, which explains his body being covered in stitches. He had no thoughts of immortality, though. No. He'd live for as long as he could, but he needed his body, and his mind, to stay young. Therefore, he made a device, which he implanted in his head. It was a large knob, which worked kinda like a clock. In order for his brain to keep functioning, he has to turn it daily. He, however, does this every few minutes, simply because he enjoys the clicking sounds it gives off when turned.

At age 62, 1982, he received a letter from Albus Dumbledore, asking him to come back to be the Ancient Runes professor, due to his experience and skill in the field. Happy at getting a chance to go back to Hogwarts, he declined, but agreed to become Madam Pomfrey's aide. The pay was good, he got his own lab, and he could go into the Forbidden Forest to get a few specimens to dissect, though they didn't necessarily have to be dead when he strapped them down to his table.

His skills with Potions were soon required as well, and he often worked next to Severus Snape, a new Potions teacher, to discover ways to improve different potions and such.

When Voldemort came to power, Frank could care less. He was a pureblood, and he wouldn't get in his way. He wouldn't help the Order, and he wouldn't help the Death Eaters. He'd just stand on the sidelines, and dissect any bodies he'd come across. Though, of course, if the pay was good, he'd most likely help the Death Eaters. After all, they were a lot more lenient when it came to Frank's hobbies.

He soon quit his job, but came back to school a year later, taking over as School Healer and School Counselor, a job that he thinks he was a very pour choice for.
