Potions: Third Years, Lesson Two Empty Potions: Third Years, Lesson Two

Post by Angel Valentine Wed May 02, 2012 5:09 am

Last time the class was terribly unproductive. She got only one question right before the bell wrung and ended the class abruptly. In reality, she figured that it was because she was waiting for the tardy students to arrive, and for that she was forced to waste away the little time they had for important potions.

She waved her wand as 'Calming Draught' appeared on the board.

Potions: Third Years, Lesson Two Empty Re: Potions: Third Years, Lesson Two

Post by Charlotte Smith Wed May 02, 2012 5:38 am

Charlotte hurried into the class and she looked at the Professor with a small smile, she was very glad to be able to see what they were doing today on the board, she thought that it would be one of the best potions that she could have, after all, it was going to be useful when she got stressed out, and that was happening a lot more often now, hopefully she would be able to brew a fair few of these potions.

Sitting down at her desk she smiled at her Professor and took out her things, ready for the lesson to begin.

Entering the classroom, she realized that she wasn't the first one. She smiled seeing that Charlotte was there and she sat in the front row. She was glad that they were continuing the lesson from last week considering it was an important one to learn, especially with trauma that could occur.

Potions: Third Years, Lesson Two Empty Re: Potions: Third Years, Lesson Two

Airen entered the classroom. He looked around and saw two other students there, He gave a friendly nod to Tess, even if he didn't know her that well. He slid into the seat next to Charlotte and gave her a warm smile. He looked up at the board and got out his things. He inwardly smirked. As if he'd need a calming draught in the near future. Still, it would be useful if he ever got stressed out.

"Afternoon, Professor," he greeted. He got out his quill, ink, and parchment. He decided that while he was waiting, he'd doodle for a bit.

Potions: Third Years, Lesson Two Empty Re: Potions: Third Years, Lesson Two

Parker brushed the hair out of his eyes with his fingers as he walked in the room, thinking about how he might really need a haircut. He sighed, frowning as he then moved his hand to rub his neck. He took a seat a few seat back from the front, somewhat near Tess.

He looked up at the board, seeing that they would be learning about brewing calming drought. He set his bag on the table and rested his elbows on the table as well, resting his chin on his hands. He took a deep breath in, wanting to brew something, anything. To just be able to immerse himself in that felt like it would do him some good right now. He didn't feel too focused, but perhaps once they got going he'd get into the motions and brew a good potion.

Post by Zara Hawkins Wed May 02, 2012 8:29 pm

Zara casually walked into class knowing that she wasn't late. She sat down at a random desk in the middle of the classroom and took her things out of her bag.

She looked up at the board and noticed the words "Calming Draught" written. She was looking forward to brewing this potion. Although, she enjoyed brewing most potions.

Tabi walked into potions class and was glad at least this class had not started yet. So she made it into class and sat in the back. It looked like they were still going to be working on the same potion as last time and that was a good thing.

She got everything prepared and was ready to start.

Leshia walked into Potions class and she was glad she was not late, but upon walking into the class she noticed her sister was already there, and she had to laugh, casue the last lesson she was picking on Tabi for being late.

She went and sat down next to her, "I know, I know. Don't say it." Leshia smiled

Seeing that most of her students were here she decided to begin the lesson.

"Now students, I know that last time we did not have the opportunity to continue our lesson. Today the calming drought will be done in pairs. Please pick a partner so we can begin. As you do so I will write the ingredients"

Calming Draught

1) Place three cup of pomegranate juice one cup of water, one cup of Standard ingredient, quarter cup of crushed foxglove in cauldron and mix till together (clockwise) over a fire at a constant degree of 150
2) Once is bubbles, place four fairy wings, dried and powdered into the cauldron (it should turn red) and mix counter clockwise.
3) Twenty sprigs of lavender and mix in until it is the prominent spell, it should turn a pale purple.
4) Cover and wave wand over muttering "Calmus" over it, the smell should be more prominent.
5) After five minutes, uncover and it should be a residue light purple, important to pick out the lavender.
6) Lower temperature to 90 degrees, then put in 2 blobs of Flobberworm Mucus and one Valerian Sprig.
7) Cover for ten minutes.

"For the spell Calmus, you simply wave you hand over the cauldron" she said showing it. "In a circle, point counterclockwise, circle, and mutter it CALM-US, just as it is written on the board. Do not make a mistake or else you might make a sleeping potion. To add to the challenge, you and your partner will try it to see if you get the calming euphoric feeling. Begin!"

Tess frowned a bit seeing that Victoria wasn't there. She had been her potions partner since...forever. She got up and walked over to Parker tentatively. It seemed awkward to ask, but she figured Tabi would work with Leshia, and she didn't know Airen that well but knew he'd work with Charlotte and she was just mind boggled.

"Do you mind working with me Parker? I won't mess up I promise" she said with a small grin.

Post by Parker Emery Thu May 03, 2012 5:51 pm

When the professor explained they needed to get into pairs, and then went on to write the instructions on the board, Parker looked around a bit to see who else was in the class. When Tess turned around and asked if they wanted to partner up, he lowered his hands from his face and nodded. "Yeah, sure."

He smiled a little bit when she promised she'd not mess up. "Oh please, you're better at Potions then I am.."

When he looked around he noticed that Zara didn't have a partner, at least not yet. He looked from Tess and over to Zara, "Hey- Zara, you want to join us for now?" He asked her, assuming Tess would be fine with it. Kind of bold, at least compared to how he usually was, for him to just assume that.

He looked back up to the board as the professor stopped writing and elaborated more on the instructions. He nodded and looked at Tess again, "Lets both go grab the ingredients." he said. After all, it would be faster then one person.

Zara sat and listened as the professor gave the instructions. Zara was a little worried when they were told to get into pairs. She looked around and saw there was an odd number. She knew there were sisters in that class, so they would probably pair up. Zara knew that Charlotte would pair with Airen too. She would have asked Parker, but it was a little too late now.

"I'm sure working by myself won't be so bad," she thought to herself. But when she heard Parker's voice, her face lit up. "That'd be great! Thanks, Parker," she said.

"Would you like me to help get the ingredients too?" she asked, when Parker suggested to go grab the ingredients.

Tess nodded at the mention of Zara. She had never actually met her, but gave her a small grin trying to be friendly.

"No worries Zara was it? I'll get it"

She grinned and walked towards the cabinet. She picked up her needed items and walked over to place them on the table, letting him take the other half.

"Who wants to start?" she asked the pair.

Post by Charlotte Smith Thu May 03, 2012 9:28 pm

When she heard that they were picking their own partners she turned to Airen almost immediately. She smiled happily at him as she stood up from her seat,

"Will you be my partner Air?" she asked with a happy, warm, smile, "I think that this potion is going to be really interesting and I'd love for you to be able to help me with it. I'll go collect the ingredients while you prepare the cauldron and equipment alright?"

Humming a little bit to herself, Charlotte wandered over to collect the ingredients. This potion was going to be very useful in stopping some of her pain and she was really looking forward to making it so that she could calm herself back down. She brought the ingredients back to their work station with a slightly hopeful bounce in her step,

"Got them! What's next then?"

Airen looked up at the professor as she explained the lesson plan for the day. He looked over as Charlotte asked to be his partner. He smiled widely and nodded. He liked working with her so often. He just hoped that he wasn't taking her away from some of her friends.

"Of course, you don't need to ask," he replied. "Alright, sounds good," he said as she walked off to get the ingredients. Airen set about putting the cauldron over the fire and setting the temperature to 150. He checked each set of tools they'd be using for cracks or flaws. Finding none, he smiled and waited for Charlotte to return.

"I guess we start. How about we alternate between steps? Do you want to go first?" he offered.

Tabi knew that between her sister and her they would have this potion done in no time. Even though Tabi was always putting down Leshia's skills Leshia was just as good at potions as she was, Tabi just always wanted to look better in front of their father.

"Do you want to get the ingredients, while I prep the cauldron?" Tabi asked her sister

Leshia was glad she was finally going to be able to work closely in potions with her sister. She had heard that Tabi had gotten the potions apprenticeship and Leshia was proud of her sister. Leshia had no idea what she wanted to do yet. She had thought maybe working with younger children she did not know.

Walking over to the cupboard she grabbed the supplies they were going to need, pomegranate juice, foxglove, fairy wings, etc..the whole list and carried everything back to their table.

Leshia noticed that Tabi had the cauldron ready so Leshia handed Tabi the 3 cups of juice, the one cup of standard ingredient. While Tabi was doing that Leshia crushed the foxglove.

"Make sure the temp stays at 150 degrees" Leshia smiled

Leshia knew Tabi knew what she was doing she just didn't want to feel stupid.

Tabi was working on the potion and placing in the ingredients that Leshia was handing her. Leshia was doing a great job.

"Your not stupid" Tabi said to Leshia as she continued working on the potion.

Tabi loved the fact sometimes that Leshia and heard to read each others minds, it helped them a lot.

They had gotten step two done and it had turned the shade of red it was suppose to. Tabi had Leshia add the lavender and then she mixed it together watching it turn the pale purple. Then they covered it and Tabi said the spell "Calmus."

Now they had to wait the 5 mintues, so Tabi set their timer.

"How are you doing Leshia, you have been ignoring me." Tabi asked quietly

Charlotte smiled happily when Airen said that he did want to be her partner, it made her feel very glad to know that he was't getting bored of her because he was partnered with her in so many classes, she loved it, it meant that she always knew that she would have someone she liked to work with as her partner.

"I think that's a great idea, that way we will be sure to get everything done in time." she added with a larger smile "So, yes, I'll go first and then its your turn."

With that Charlotte added the three cups of pomegranate juice to the cauldron, she added then the cup of the standard ingredient that they used in all of their potions. Then she added the quarter cup of crushed foxglove, once done Charlotte stirred the mixture all together, hoping that the fire was at the right temperature, but knowing that Air would have done it right.

"Alright then," Airen replied. He smiled back at her and watched silently as she worked. He liked the fact that they were so comfortable working with one another. He just hoped that she wasn't missing out on any quality time with her friends, but then again, this was Charlotte. She probably had many friends.

As she worked, Airen dried and powdered the four fairy wings. They seemed to sparkle, but then again, these were fairy wings. He hoped that none of the fairies were killed for their wings.

When Charlotte was done, he placed the fairy wings into the cauldron and watched as it turned red. He mixed them in counterclockwise. 12...9...6...3... he thought to himself.
