Tutoring Session (Headmaster Romain and Humphrey)

Tutoring, that was why he was heading to the library on a beautiful sunny day. As he walked into the library, he let out a sigh. Then he picked a desk, pulled up a second chair, and started organizing his books and notes by subject. Humphrey finished arranging the desk in a neat fashion and leaned back in his chair.

The headmaster would be here soon he knew. She was very rarely late. He expected soon he would have a splitting headache from using his brain too much...

Briony walked to the Library, she had wanted to go outside and play with Raven in the lake, but instead she had to bring her to the dusty old library, there was something morally wrong with keeping a child in doors in a sunny day.

Spotting the boy she was tutoring, Briony hurried up to him, Raven in her cot, levitating by her side, and she sat down in front of Humphrey, the first thing to get out of the way was why he had been so long out of school.

"Hello Humphrey, you don't mind me having Raven do you? Richard's doing Ministry work so can't look atfer her."

"Of course I don't mind Professor. How many months is she?" he asked her." The baby clearly belonged to Headmaster Romain. It looked just like her. "Raven looks just like you. She couldn't be anybdoy else's. So, what are we working on first today?" Humphrey asked politely.

The baby girl was absolutely adorable. He was sure that Professor Romain (Richard) was absolutely in love with her. Also, he suspected, so was the rest of the school. Babies are absolutely a distraction, and not many people disliked them.

Briony smiled slightly before letting it vanish, she did not often smile at her students but the subject of her baby was one that she thought warrented a smile, she had not had many people ask about her, which was strange but she didn't mind.

"She's only a few weeks old, she was delivered just before this round of lessons began, well thank you, my husband just so happens to feel the same way."

Taking out her large notepad, Briony summoned a quill and stuck it behind her ear while she looked at Humphrey;

"First off, what lessons did you take?"

Headmistress Romain broke out in a genuine smile when he asked her about Raven and said they looked so similar. "Well anybody with eyes in their head can see you two look the same Headmistress. Raven is a good name for her, fitting, I think." Humphrey said.

"Classes I took, right. I take Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures, Potions, History of Magic, Transfiguration, Charms, Astronomy, Divination, Infilteration, Occlumency, Duelling, Flying Lessons, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and I do believe that is all of them Headmistress." he told her.

Briony almost wanted to smash her head on the wall, of course this student would have had to take practically all of the classes that Hogwarts offered, and she thought that this was going to take a heck of a long time.

Deciding to start with her own subject, Briony tapped the notepad and it turned to her lesson notes she had made;

"Duelling you missed quite a fair bit, in second year we learnt; Serpent Sortia, Vipera Evanesca, Riktusempra, Finite Incantantem, do you have any idea what any of these spells do?"

"Alright, I know that Finite Incantatem shows what spells a person's wand has cast right?" he asked her. "As for the others I am not sure. I read through the second year coursebook, but I forgot some of what I'd read." Humphrey explained.

"Sorry I have so many courses to go through by the way. I know that makes getting caught up that much more difficult. My problem is that I have a gigantic thirst for knowledge." he said, trying to get a grin out of the solemn Headmistress.

Briony shook her head, it was like that spell in terms of name alone however it was far less complicated than the spell that Humphrey was suggesting, it was probably a good thing that he was having this session, if he did not know what these spells did, he'd get a shock if he tried to use them.

"No it is not, it is a counter spell, it cuts off other harmful spells that could be used upon you, for example, in my class it was used to counter Riktusempra." she nodded.

Then she decided to go through the rest of the spells with him; "Serpent sortia is a spell to summon a snake, Vipera Evanesca is the counter to this spell, it transports the snake somewhere else and Riktusempra is the tickling curse."

Shrugging her shoulders Briony pinched the bridge of her nose; "It just means that we'll be spending a long time in here."

"Oh, my mistake. I must have confused one of the spells with Finite Incantatem or something." he said. It was odd for him to mix up his facts like that, but he must have made a mistake memorizing Finite Incantatem.

Paying attention, he wrote down the list of spells she was telling him about, and wrote down what each of them dead. For the snake summoning spell, he made sure to put the counter curse directly underneath it in bold. The Headmistress was a fast talker, and he barely managed to keep up with her.

"I suppose it does, doesn't it? Honestly, I didn't expect I would be spending time in the library being tutored by you when I came back. But, surprisingly, I don't really mind. Kind of looking forward to getting caught up on my classes actually." Humphrey said with a smile. Studying ansd schoolwork had always interested him, he was naturally a very curious person. So, learning about all these different subjects always made him think, and try to ask the best question possible.

Briony waited while he started to write all of the things down, she hoped that he would be able to use them to the best of his ability when he needed to, he had missed the class duel however there was going to be another at the start of next years classes, and she hoped that the students would remember all of their spells.

Now it seemed that he had finished, Briony leafed through the notes on the other subjects and she blinked a little when she saw the charms teachers, deciding to get it out of the way she sighed and crossed her arms over her chest.

"Now we will move onto charms, I am not very good at charms so bare with me, these are your professors notes, and she said that you would be learning the Tickling Charm, Freezing Charm, Disarming Charm and the Slug Vomiting Charm. Do you know any of the proper names for these spells?"

"I know the name of the Disarming Charm. It is called Expelliarmus, isn't it?" he asked her. He was fairly sure that was the name of the Charm. ""I don't remember any of the other names of the Charms though." Humphrey admitted to her.

Thankfully, Briony waited for him to copy the notes down before she had asked him the question. If she had gone right into the next subject he might have missed a thing or two. She was a very good teacher, friendly, smart, and competent. Definitely one of his favorite professors here at Hogwarts.

Briony nodded her head and she smirked a little bit, he shoudl have known this charm because it was one of the ones that she had taught him in duelling, which for all the students who took it in the charms class provided a bit of a 'sit off'.

"Exactly, and you already learnt this charm in my lesson so don't have to worry about it at all, as for the other charms I just covered a lesson with the tickling charm. It's Riktusempra, the one that we just covered."

Sighing a little Briony rolled her eyes; "It seems that our syllabus' cross just a tad, so make sure you know those two very well because you'd have practiced them twice."

"Yea, I'm glad that some of the charms and duelling spells are the same though, it makes it a little easier to catch up. Okay, Riktumsempra, got it." Humphrey said. He wrote the name of the spell next to the tickling charm.

"Alright, I'll make sure that I have them down pat. So what are the names of the freezing charm, and the slug vomiting charm, Professor Romain? he asked her. Those were the other two charms she had told him he would need to know. The slug vomiting charm in particular sounded good for pranks.

Humphrey was really lucky he had such an understanding headmistress. He knew if it had been somebody else, they probably would have made him drop down to second year. But, here she was, taking time out of her very busy schedule to tutor him herself. Headmistress Romain was an excellent Headmistress of Hogwarts, in his opinion, at least, she was the best.

Briony smirked lightly and she knew that it was going to be easier for him to catch up charm work, but there were many other classes they hadn't gone through yet and it would take an awfully long time to get some of the other spells.

Looking through her notes she smiled as she found the spells actual incantation; "The slug charm is Slugulus Eructo, and the freezing charm I believe is Immobulus. They don't look too hard to learn either."

Running her hand through her hair, Briony decided what subject they should move onto next, and she rummaged through her notes until she found them;

"Right, shall we move onto potions now? The lesson plans are much clearer I believe."

Humphrey was sure that he had a lot of studying work to do. But still, it was nice a couple things he already knew about. "I know, I am going to be so pale this year. Since I will be spending my time inside all day studying, and trying to catch up for a year of missed school." He quickly wrote down the name Slugulus Eructo and Immobulus next to the slug vomit charm, and the freezing charm. Thankfully, Humphrey Williams had an excellent memory, and a good mind for trivia. In fact, he had almost been placed in Ravenclaw. He was given a choice and chose Gryffindor.

"Yea, that sounds like a good plan. I've always liked potions class. As long as you pay attention and read the instructions properly you are good to go. So, what Potion are you going to teach me about?" Humphrey asked excitedly. He knew his brain would be fried by the time he dragged himself up to his dorm after this.

Briony was glad that Humphrey knew that he was going to have to work really hard in order to gain the level of knowledge that the other pupils had but she knew that there were going to be times when he would need to have a break, no point in overworking.

"Make sure that you study in moderation, have a break every so often." she smiled lightly.

Digging up the potions note she sighed and passed it over the table to Humphrey, it was something she had always quite liked, Potions, but she did not know if he would be able to make these potions unsupervised.

"For potions you have missed; Swelling Solution, Ageing Potion and the Antidote to Common Poisons, they spent two lessons on that so I am guessing it's important."

Humphrey knew it was to take breaks. "Speaking of, I am just about done for tonight. I am really tired, and a little bit depressed too." he admitted to the Headmistress. "Do you mind if we finish for tonight, and come back tomorrow?" he asked her.

"Alright, I will start researching them to see how they are done before I hit the sack tonight. Maybe ask Professor Valentine..." Humphrey said, and then yawned. "-if she can oversee me brewing them. Just to be on the safe side." he explained. Those potions all looked difficult, but very useful. Interesting possibilities with those, lots of prank ideas ran through his head.
