Tess snorted and rolled her eyes at his comment.

"Thanks, I'm glad I'm a Harlequin to somebody" she said sticking her tongue out. "I know Muggle sayings, my best friend is one!"

She laid back on the chair and curled up all the more, a small curious grin on her face.

"Well thanks for not being a jerk to me" she said smiling. "You wouldn't be mean to a face like this would you"

She fluttered her lashes before sticking her tongue out. It was fun being a dork with someone, and Humphrey was a fellow dork like her.

"I don't think you are a Harlequin Tess. What I am trying to do is encourage you to become a little more of a Harlequin. Not full out, but just a little bit more of a, how can I put this, confident and forceful person. No arrogance mind you, just less shy and stuff." Humphrey told her, patting her on the back. He did a grin, but decided to let it one cheek slide up higher so it was crooked. It was fun doing that.

"Me, being a jerk to you. No, no, no, I could never do that. I am only jerks to people who are mean to me first. You see, I don't start things, but I do finish them." he said, smiling widely now. "Umm, umm...what we were talking about again? Your beautiful face distracted me when you smiled. It was just too pretty for a teenage boy to handle.

He started laughing as Tess fluttered her eyelashes at him. It was soot weird watching her pretend to flirt with him. "Okay, Tess stop it before you make me blush. Wait, too late." Humphrey said, and he felt the color rise to his cheeks. "How can you expect me to maintain a conversation when you are trying to seduce me Tess?" he told her, teasing her.

Tess rolled her eyes as he blushed and nudged him smirking. Honestly he was so crazy, but it amused her.

"Sorry I can't help myself" she said smirking. "It's so natural for me to do it"

Their friendship was a unique one, he was all out there and she, she was was shy. She knew that she had to be more outgoing, and she was...sort of, at least when it was time for her to be courageous she was, always out to protect others. Perhaps if she used that sort of mentality then it'd work out.

"I have no idea what we were talking about" she said amused. "But you were complimenting me, you can continue if you want"

Tess just rolled her eyes and nudged him when he blushed. Honestly, couldn't she see the effect she could have on boys her age. Laughing softly, he replied, "Well, don't try and flirt unless you actually have romantic feelings for the guy okay. Otherwise you are just going to bust a lot of hearts, because you have a great personality, and are pretty too." he explained to her. He tried to put it from a guy's perspective, but in terms a girl wound understand, hopefully.

The thing about hanging with Tess, was that they always were playful with each other. He drew her out of her shell a little bit, and she always had witty remarks that were hilarious. Also, she was very good at flirting, and joking around. If things don't work out with Keiba, maybe I should try it with Tess. We do get along great, they always had.

"We always seem to forget what we were talking about when we hang out Tess. I think it is due in part to my slightly ADOS, attention deficit oooh shiny disorder." Humphrey joked. He'd always been a person who could talk about anything and everything. "Well, I could, but I don't want you to get an inflated opinion of yourself. You have a big enough head already to fit that amazing brain in there. It has to keep all those books, and be quick on its feet to joke around with me. I talk fast, and change topics so quickly, most people can't keep up to be honest. Also, you have really pretty eyes, nice color, and big. If you made a puppy dog face I don't know how anybody could refuse your cuteness."

Tess laughed brightly at his comment and covered her mouth trying to stifle in the noise before they got in trouble. Seems she forgot they were in the library and she blushed embarrassed.

"Honestly you are going to get me in trouble Mister" she said rolling her eyes and smirking. "Yes, yes perhaps you should stop, I'm too amazing as it is..and puppy..thanks"

She grinned and shook her heads. Honestly they were both dorks. She liked joking around, like she did with Victoria, though hers were different.

"Perhaps the library isn't the best place to chat" she commented. "I feel we'll be kicked out soon."

This time it was Tess who blushed. He had never seen her blood rush to her cheeks, and he had to admit, it was a very beautiful effect. "I agree, you are just too amazing to put into words. You don't have to thank me Tess, any boy with half a brain can tell you are gorgeous. Anybody who doesn't think so is thick in the head." he said, complimenting her. Maybe he would try it with Tess. After all, Keiba didn't want to date him right now. He decided he would give it a shot.

She was such a dorky, nerdy girl. So, naturally being the geeky guy he was, they had become close friends. Now, though, he was going to take a risk. "I agree, Librarian Sollmann likes his library to be drama-free. You want to meet at The Abandoned Tower?" he asked Tess.

"That is a special place, and nobody else goes up there. We can talk without anybody to tell us to shut up. Also, I want to tell you something, but only when we get up there. I don't want anybody to overhear us." he said. Then he stood up, "Come on, let's go." Humphrey offered her a hand up out of the chair. At the thought of touching her hands, his heart fluttered nervously. So, he had learned that he had feelings for Keiba, now Tess, and he couldn't help wondering if he still had feelings for Charlotte. To be honest, he wasn't sure...

Humphrey was a good friend, and she admittedly missed having someone who was random, and light on everything. His compliments made her laugh softly after all she didn't really believe it, at least she didn't really care for her looks. But she was used to being called pretty, at least by Xander.

"The Abandoned Tower sounds nice" she said smiling.

She was a bit surprised by his hand sticking out, but she took it to help her get up. She let go after getting up to put the book in her satchel knowing that she'd read it for his sake and turned to face him.

"What a gentleman" she said smirking. "Care to lead the way?"

"Awesome. It is probably my favorite room. It is so quiet, and has a spectacular view of everything. Also, the lighting is unique, and fun to paint with. Because nobody uses it, the windows aren't perfectly square, and it makes the lighting a little bit jagged which I find cool." Humphrey explained why he loved it so much. "Also, it is nice and quiet, nobody goes up there consistently. At least not normally, except for me that is."

He pulled her up easily, even if he didn't have werewolf strength it would have been easy. Tess was slim, and fit. Though she didn't play Quidditch so he wasn't quite sure what he did to stay and shape. "Well, you have my mom and my aunt to thank for my manners. They ingrained in me courtesy and chivalry when walking with a lady. Tess, you are a lady, and I will treat you as such. You are also a very fun and awesome to talk to smart lady, so you get even better treatment then say, an acquaintance. Even most of my other friends, too, to be perfectly honest. Because, I'll let you in on a secret; guess what, you are one of my very favorite people at Hogwarts. Possibly my number one favorite...", he whispered to her at the end.

"Just follow me! Up, up, and away!" Humphrey said as he trudged up the stairs, sticking his hands out like the Muggle comic book hero Superman did as he flew.

Tess looked at him wide-eyed and she smiled. He was one of her friends too ,and she wasn't friends with everyone, she was too shy and too meek to really go out there. The only other person she was outgoing towards was Parker, and that was because he was like her and she forced herself to play his foil.

The Abandoned Tower sounded really nice and she smiled knowing he had a spot, she had one too and that was the Black Lake. She had one spot, and that one was specifically for her. She hadn't shared it with anyone, the only person that had found it was Corinne, but she'd passed. She didn't want to think about it.

She took his hand lightly and his grin being infectious she let out of her own and moved up the stairs quickly trying to catch up.

"Wait up" she said laughing softly. "Gosh you seem to have too much sugar in you"

"Too much sugar?!?!" Humphrey said, shocked a teenager would say such a thing. "Since when do I eat unhealthily, I am just a very active person. And when you exercise a lot like me, it gives you more energy than a bookworm like you." he said, teasing her a little bit.

"Just kidding, but seriously if you ever want to job, or walk with me let me know. It doesn't have to be something intense, just a way we could spend time together, talk and all that good stuff." Humphrey said, smiling at his pretty friend.

"I'd really like it if we could spend as much time together as we have free. You are a fairly good friend, I mean, I've had worse." he said, looking at her to let her know she was important to him and was just having some fun. "Nope, not too bad for a Slytherin. I remember I was shocked the first time I met a nice Slytherin, you act a lot like a combination of a Ravenclaw and a Hufflepuff to be honest. Would never have guessed you were cunning. Smart, nice, and pretty, if that was classified as a house it would be all you." Humphrey said with a wink.

Tess nudged him at her lack of exercise, but her cheeks flushed at him complimenting her. Walking ahead of him, she turned around and rolled her eyes.

"First of all, I exercise! I dance, and do yoga, archery and gymnastics" she said pouting

Her nose wrinkled at the mention of Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff and placed her hands on her hips, pushing her weight on the right.

"Humphrey Williams, I am very much deservedly a Slytherin" she began. "And while I have a lovely friend in Hufflepuff I am most definitely NOT a Hufflepuff. I am determined, know what I want, and I will get what I want if I want it that badly. Not even your flattery can ease that phrase"

"I was teasing you about the exercise, I know you are athletic. You might even be able to beat me in a fight, although I do have size advantage. Definitely know better than to get on your bad side though. I am guessing since you rarely get mad, when you do it is pretty intense." Humphrey told her. Trying to get her to smile again. "I know better than to anger a woman."

"Whoa, whoa! Truce!" he said, raising his hands into the air. "I was just saying you have elements of all houses. I agree you are most fitted to Slytherin, because I know you are ambitious. You are just a little more even-tempered than most Slytherins I know, friendlier, more studious, with aspects of courage about you as well that would make a Gryffindor. I know you are an excellent Slytherin, and I believe the sorting hat placed you well. I was almost Slytherin myself." Humphrey said. "You know I don't always think things through properly."

He hugged her tightly, "Now, please stop proving to me how Slytherin you are, and show me the cool, artsy side to your character. Let's go check out some paintings and sketches. I'm not that good, but maybe you'll like them..." he said, looking at the stone steps as they walked. Then he pecked her on the cheek, "You are such a great friend Tess. I really appreciate what you do for me."

Being pulled into a hug she let out a soft smile. Honestly sometimes he was so oblivious to the insinuations he said. But her amusement became surprise as she felt his lips on her cheek.

She blinked a few times and immediately a dusk of pink appeared on her cheeks, after all it was uncalled for. Still she smiled softly at him.

"It's fine you git, I forgive you" she said "come on show me the art"

"As you wish. Like the genie from the tale of Aladdin, your wish is my command." Humphrey said, doing a small bow to her. It was difficult to keep his lips from twitching, but he managed it with a reasonably serious expression.

"You ain't never had a friend like me." he sang softly, as he walked up the stairs. Tess had told him she was American, and he would be very surprised if she hadn't seen the film. She was definitely the kind of girl who could have played a Disney Princess, that was for sure. Maybe, Bella, definitely Bella from Beauty and the Beast. Then he blushed, what did that make him? Gaston, a hairy monster, or a combination of the two?

Tess rolled her eyes at the reference of Aladdin and laughed softly before climbing the stairs. She turned to face him and shook her head.

"I have to say you're pretty right" she said.

She raised her brow at his blushing, but kept going up the stairs still wondering what was he thinking. She hadn't done something, so it was all on him.

"You alright there?" she asked him curiously.

"Yes!" Humphrey bellowed, and pumped his fist in the air. "I was hoping you would say that." His smile got a bit bigger.

Then Tess raised her brow, he assumed it was because his cheeks felt a little warm. He was an easy person to make blush. "Perfectly fine, thank you for asking. Just some happy thoughts floating around up here."

"Okay calm yourself down, you don't know that red face might be permanent if you aren't careful" she teased.

After what she said, he blushed even more. "Okay, you can stop now. Really, I mean this just isn't fair. Don't abuse your blush power over me. It is a deadly weapon." Humphrey said, grinning at her as he said it. She was just so much fun to hang around with.

"You know, I might have to tickle you if you keep making me blush like this."

Tess laughed and stuck her tongue out. Honestly, what the hell was he so embarrassed about and why was his face so red. It didn't make sense to her.

"Don't you dare, I'll kick you" she said wrinkling her nose.
