Lesson 4: Second Years

Eleri was setting up everything for the next lesson, hoping that this one would be as fun as the last.

"Hello Miss!" Annika skipped into the room smiling and looking around for Toulouse. "You look so happy today. Is it because summer vacation is almost here? "

Annika herself was tossed up about the vacation. She was supposed to go home but the measle had become epidemic in Butzweiler and Mama thought she ought to stay at the school. She was so afraid of being alone, but maybe she could get a class or something.

"What are we doing today Miss?"

"Hello Annika, how are you today? I'm feeling happy because one of my little sisters is going to be coming to the school. We're going to be doing a simple shield charm called 'Munio'. Toulouse is hiding somewhere so he can help." She smiled.

"I've never heard of a shield charm. what does that one do? These are so new to me. I some how never could get them straight in my head at home, and so Papa or Mama would have to have my little sister help me, or do it themselves when they wanted to charm something. Speaking of sisters, what's her name. your sister, i mean and what year? I bet you are going to love having her here. I would like my sister to come, but we can only afford for one of us to. she'll be taught by my oma and Mama."

Sitting her things down Annika begin looking around for Toulouse. She had become very fond of the little fur ball and enjoyed petting him every class period.

"A shield charm can be used to protect you from almost anything, I think you can guess the one spell that no shield charm can ever block. It's quite handy in Potions class as you can use it to stop others trying to spoil your potion.
Her name's Mirri and she's a first year. I'm so excited for her being here! It's sad that your sister can't come. If you would like, I can give you lesson plans for her year and you can send them home so she has some extra help." Eleri smiled, knowing how much you can miss your family.

"That would be so great. I know she would love it. And you're right this charm will really help. I wonder if it would help keep me from getting in trouble in potions too." Annika was really enjoying these classes. Professor didn't seem like the rest of the teachers, they all seemed so stand offish and stuff. This one just really seemed to be more like the people she knew from home.

"I'm sure having Mirri? here will be fun for you. You are so lucky." Annika took out her wand and sat waiting to learn how to cast the new charm.

"I'm certainly looking forward to having her, what year would your sister be in?" Eleri smiled.

"She'd be a first year next semester, so I think she's about the same age as your sister. I know she wants to come, but Mama really needs her help with the other two girls and the twins. They are crawling all over and into everything. Besides, I think she's kind of relieved to not have to be around a lot of people..she's really shy and doesn't have a lot of friends even at home." Annika ducked her head and thought, "kind of like me."

She really missed her sisters and brother, but just didn't want to be stuck in a small town and farm all her life. The hardest thing about being away though was not having a support system and what few friends she had made among the muggle kids in town.
