Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Cain had decided to take a walk out in the woods, as he often did, to reflect upon the past as he gazed at the stars. It pained him that Ophelia was not more prominently displayed in his thoughts of his recent past so he had decided to invite her to his midnight musings on the stars.
He hoped that she enjoyed the stars but he had other delights for her to enjoy as well. He wanted her to enjoy the night as much as he did.

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Ophelia had eagerly accepted Cain's invitation. Excitement bubbled inside her at the prospect of spending time with Cain whom she had become rather fond of. She hadn't seen him in a while and the time spent without him had seemed lifeless, dull, boring. Basically her life story. She smiled to herself and shook her head.
She walked until she found him, a smile making it's way onto her face as she walked over to him. "Cain!" She exclaimed happily.

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Cain turned from looking at the stars and let his normal lopsided smile appear on his lips, the sight of Ophelia after so long made his heart warm and he was now more sure than ever that his attatchement to her was not simply that of friendship.
A pain had been plaguing him recently, could they ever decide to embark upon a sort of...but whenever the thought entered his head he banished it away, it was something that would never happen, and he must keep his feelings to himself lest he lose Ophelia all together.
"Ophelia, greetings, I am very pleased to see you again."

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Ophelia felt warmth just at the sight of him, a bubbly happy feeling that made her want to giggle and squeal and be happy. She wanted to run around and shout out how happy she was, because Ophelia hardly ever felt happy anymore. It was beginning to wear her down. Constantly being un-happy wasn't something fun, so when she was happy she was incredibly happy.
Ophelia knew now that the feelings she had for Cain stretched beyond friendship. But it could never work, because who could love someone like her... she was damaged goods. And besides, they were too different, in ways that would make the relationship not function properly.
"I've missed you so much. Whenever i'm not around you, I feel so sad all the time." She confessed with a frown.

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Cain almost felt the need to apologise profusely when he had heard that Ophelia had missed him, of course he had missed he too although he had needed to come to terms with the loss of his little sister, his Ipolani, and of course now he was taking care of her little foal, Faia, which was much more of a challenge than he thought it would be.
Giving Ophelia a slightly sadder smile Cain chuckled slightly and tried not to dwell on those sad thoughts, they wracked his heart so much he thought that at the slightest flicker of Ipolani's face he would dissolve into tears, he was surprised that he had any left to cry alas he did.
"Forgive me, I would have sought you out sooner Ophelia, however I was in no state to be seen by you my dear friend, the stars have not been kind to me as of late, I hope their eyes have been gazing more kindly upon your life." he smiled gently.

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Ophelia was glad to see him once more, though she wondered what had kept him from contacting her. After all, she had no means to contact him and though this saddened her, she had complete faith in the fact that he would contact her so they could meet once more.
Ophelia tilted her head at Cain's sad smile and reached out a hand to take his in her own. She was even more worried over his explanation, as her concern was now clear on her features. He looked sad about something, despite the chuckle he'd given. Ophelia squeezed his hand lightly.
"Never mind that, Cain," she smiled softly. "What is it? What has happened to you that has made you sad, Cain?" She asked. She wanted him to be happy and bubbly, not sad. Even though he was smiling, she wanted to know what was wrong because a smile could not hide one's sadness.

Cain smiled sadly at Ophelia and squeezed her hand when she offered it to him, it seemed to give him strength just by looking at it, it was hard for him to learn to tell his emotions without becoming sadened by them himself, so he was reluctant to tell Ophelia lest he start crying.
Taking a large breath in he looked up at the stars before locking gazes with Ophelia, patting her hand he said quietly;
"My Ipolani died, she was...she was my sister." he said, her voice breaking a little "I was not here to prevent her death and, and I can't help but think that it is my fault."
Frowning Cain blinked rapidly and wiped at his eyes with his other arm.
"If I was stronger, if I was a better leader, I would have been able to save her, I could have stopped it..." he whispered "But now I take care of her child, Faia. I have been taught the hard way the pleasures of fatherhood." he chuckled dryly.

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Despite the concern that had now enveloped basically her entire being, she couldn't help the rush of warmth that flooded through her at him squeezing her hand lightly. She felt a light blush tinge her cheeks and she ducked her head momentarily, before lifting her gaze once more and frowning at the sad look on his face.
Her heart ached at just the thought of him being sad, because he was more than just a friend to her. He was her saviour. Her knight in shining armour.
She let out a gasp of surprise and instantly, almost without thinking, she gently pulled her hand away from his and lifted both to his face, cupping it.
She felt pain course through her as his eyes shimmered and he wiped them away. She was standing on her tippy-toes, but it didn't bother her that much. She stroked her thumbs over his cheeks, trying to offer comfort.
"Stop it, it's not your fault, Cain," she whispered gently to him. "What happened, happened, and you cannot change the past," she realised she was speaking to herself, too. "All you can do now is care for Faia to the best of your abilities. Remember, I am always here for you." She sniffled lightly, sorrow within her for the motherless child.

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Cain hated himself for being so weak in front of Ophelia, she needed him to be strong for her, she needed him to be her rock and he was not being the support that she needed right now, he needed to toughen himself up and stop crying.
When she wiped his tears away, Cain tilted his head to one side and closed his eyes, some more tears rolling out of his eyes as he did so, the memory of Ipolani was something he hated and loved to think about, it was a bittersweet feeling he could not escape no matter how hard he tried.
Hearing that Ophelia thought it wasn't his fault Cain chuckled softly and placed a hand on her own.
"It is my fault, if I had only picked up on the signs of human activity." he sighed, ducking his head down "I, I know she is still with me, in the Stars, but I miss being able to hear her voice, her reply to when I tell her that I love her."

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Ophelia's heart was slowly shattering in her chest to see Cain so upset over Ipolani's death. She'd never met this sister of his, but presumed that she must've been incredibly dear to Cain to upset him so.
She felt anger bubble in her that it was her own kind who had caused Ipolani's death and ultimately hurt Cain. Why was it that her kind had to be so cruel without reason? She shook her head and stroked more tears off of his cheek as he tilted his head and closed his eyes.
Ophelia felt tingles travel up her arm at his hand over her own, and she sighed heavily at his words.
"I believe that it is my own kind who are to blame in this situation, Cain," she frowned at her own words. Her eyes flickered up to his and her heart ached painfully. "Oh, Cain..." She sniffled lightly and gently, she hugged him to her. "I am sure that she wouldn't want you to be sad. The best you can do is care for Faia to the best of your abilities,"

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Cain did not know where he would be without Ophelia to guide him through this situation, he could now know exactly how she felt when she herself was going through something like this when they had first met, he needed to ensure that he took his own advice.
Blinking a little bit, Cain gently hugged Ophelia and he knew that she was right, Ipolani would not want him to be sad, and the only thing she would want was for him to take care of Faia, which he was doing to the best of his abilities.
"She saw you, you know, once." he smiled "She saw us together and knew that we would be strongly connected in the future, she looked at our stars."
Running his hand up and down Ophelia's arm, Cain couldn't help but feel a little better about everything that had happened; "Maybe one day you would like to meet Faia? I know she hears enough about you from me." he blushed.

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Ophelia was glad that she could be there for Cain in a time of need. She hated to think that he was alone here, and could only hope that the Centaur's would come to accept him. After all, if the white people hadn't accepted that black were not so different, their world would surely be worse off.
If only everyone could come together and realise that they were stronger as a unit than divided, the Wizarding world would not be at war. She struggled with being in the British Rebels, but she was doing it for the good of everyone. She clutched Cain close as he gently hugged her.
Ophelia's head snapped up and she felt a smile tug at her features. "Really?" She felt her heart flutter in her chest. "I only wish I could have met her, Cain," Ophelia sounded disappointed.
Ophelia swallowed around the lump in her throat and watched his hands for a moment, before looking back up at him and nodding her head eagerly. "I would love to meet her!" She exclaimed, a deep blush tinting her cheeks. "You talk about me?" She half-squeaked, half-whispered.

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Cain did not like to make Ophelia sad, or dissappointed, but he was doing so with this conversation, he wanted to stop being so selfish and to start to converse about other things, but he could not, there was just something he had to say before he finished.
"You can still see her now." he said softly, raising his hand he pointed at a rather bright star in the nights sky, it was Ipolani's star, it had grown brighter now that she had left him. "She is here, and she always will be, shining bright to guide me and Faia in our time of need."
That idea in his head made Cain stronger, made his will more resolved, and made him want to continue on a more happy line of conversation, now he had let his feelings out.
When Ophelia asked if he talked about her Cain coughed lightly and blushed a little bit more; "Of course I talk about you, we are close are we not? Faia thinks that I might have a small crush on you from the way I talk about you so much."

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Ophelia was distressed at seeing Cain so sad. It touched something deep within her, and she hated that he was sad. It made her feel slightly sad herself. She bit down on her lower lip and chewed on it in a subtle manner as she stared up at him.
She felt a smile on her face as she looked up at the sky, eyes following where he pointed until she aligned his finger with a bright star compared to the others. She presumed that was Ipolani's star. "Beautiful," Ophelia commented. She slipped her hand inside Cain's and smiled at him shyly. "She meant a lot to you." Ophelia stated, resting her head against his chest. "And i'm really, really sorry that you lost her, Cain, and I will always be here for you."
Ophelia felt her cheeks reddening as her smile turned into a grin.
"She sounds adorable. A crush, you say?" Ophelia's voice wavered slightly and she ducked her head slightly, trying to hide her violent blush.

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Cain smiled gently when he felt Ophelia's hand slip into his own, he had been thinking of something for a long while now, and he wondered if he might be able to actually complete what he had wanted, but everytime he thought about it, the same old things kept stopping him, however much he wanted to change.
"She did mean a lot to me, but I know that she would not want me to fall apart, it is what consoles me when I am in this state, sometimes it just takes a little nudge to remind me." he smiled, his regular lop sided smile.
When he saw, even by the starlight that Ophelia was blushing he could not help but feel his heart flutter with a hope that she too mich return his feelings;
"Ah...well yes, that is what she believes, is that a feature of having a crush on somebody?" he asked, quietly "I wouldn't know."

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Ophelia applied the lightest amount of pressure to his hand in a comforting squeeze. She knew first-hand what it was like to loose someone you love, and she only hoped that he would be better than she had. Granted, she hadn't had anyone to comfort her considering she took off, so she hoped she could be there for him.
"That's good Cain, i'm sure that she wouldn't. I think it's great how you deal with this, by knowing that she'd want you to be strong," she felt herself smile in response automatically to his lop sided smile.
Ophelia in-wardly cursed herself for blushing so much, but she only blushed more and more as her embarrassment built.
"Talking about them a lot? Yeah, I guess it is," she grinned at him, though her expression changed to confusion. "What do you mean?" She asked softly.

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Cain felt that he was much lighter than before, with Ophelia here everything appeared to be much better, and now that he had told her his troubles it was like a weight had been moved off his chest, maybe he could even begin to try and move on from Ipolani's death.
"I find that friendship also helps relieve the pain of the loss, being with you, even for this short a time has helped me immensely Ophelia, thank you." Cain smiled, reaching her hand to his lips as he kissed it.
When it was confirmed by Ophelia that what he did was an example of having a crush on someone, Cain had to admit that it was probably true, it was strange, and he knew it had to remain hidden, he couldn't bare to lose Ophelia because of his own feelings.
"I only mean that I have had 'crushes' before but none of them have felt the same way that I feel when I talk about you." he said, quietly, a faint blush on his cheeks.

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Ophelia's eyes trailed back up above to examine the expanse of dark sky that was above them. She stared at the stars and felt a small smile on her face as she looked at Ipolani's star, shining brightly above the two of them.
Ophelia blushed bright red as he kissed her hand and she lowered her eyes with a shy smile on her face. "You're welcome Cain, i'm glad I could be of help. I've also found that your friendship has helped me deal with loss."
Ophelia had to hold back a sigh - because even though she wished Cain would have a crush on her, she knew that just wasn't something that was likely to happen. She looked down slightly, before looking back up at him.
"Well, that's different then. Maybe it's because we're friends and you just talk about me because of that?" She suggested.

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Cain could not help but notice that Ophelia seemed to have blushed a great deal when he kissed her hand, perhaps she did feel the same way about him, maybe he should say something? Perhaps she was just as nervous and scared as he...?
He trawled through all of the thoughts in his mind, and he came up with the idea that he woudl test out her reaction when he asked her another few questions, maybe then, he would be able to gain th courage to tell Ophelia of his feelings.
"Ophelia, may I be so bold as to ask you for your help?" he asked, before pausing a moment and continuing "I wondered if you might...still be able to help me with changing into a human?"
A hopeful look on his face Cain smiled his happy lopsided smile and continued; "I have thought about it, a while now, and I realise that I can no longer lead my herd to the best of my ability what with Ipolani's death...but, might I also ask for Faia to be changed with me? Or prior to me. I can't leave her alone."

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Ophelia took deep breaths to calm herself down. Blushing was normal for her, but to this degree was a clear sign that she wasn't just blushing by the norm. She managed to calm herself down and the blush faded slightly, though her cheeks remained a light pink.
Ophelia rid herself of the blush completely by thinking of things that upset her, like the fact that her and Cain would never happen. She was nothing special, and he'd shown no prior inclination of wanting to change to a human.
She looked up and smiled warmly at him. "Ask away!" She exclaimed, happy to be of any sort of assistance to anyone - but more than happy to help Cain. Her eyes widened and her mouth fell open. Her cheeks tinged pink once more.
She nodded her head at his explanation, her heart beating wildly against her rib-cage. She would endure any sort of pain for Cain, and for Faia as well. "Of course i'll change you and Faia, so long as you're positive! I can never change you back, alright? So you have to be absolutely sure!" Her tone was excited and she couldn't help the huge grin on her face.

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Cain couldn't help but smiled a large beaming smile when Ophelia said that she would be able to change both him and Faia into human beings, he would love nothing more than to be human...perhaps then he would be able to be with Ophelia in a proper manner?
Seeing her reaction to her question made Cain;s heart pound a little in his chest, maybe she would say no, maybe she would ask the real reason why he wanted to be changed....what would he say if she did ask?
"You will?" he asked, elated "I am positive indeed but, could I ask that you spare me a few days so that I can get everything organised with the herd, then we could meet here, to begin the process."
Then, something occured to Cain, and he stopped dead, his excitement faultering, and another question sprung to his mind, when Ophelia had changed herself into a horse...it looked like it had pained her...would this too pain her?
"Ophelia...would this....transformation hurt you?" he asked quietly.

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Ophelia drew up a mental image of the calendar in her mind and calculated when the next blue moon would be. In a weeks time. That was more than enough time for her to gather the requirements, she already had the first one.
Her hand instinctively grabbed her golden heart necklace and she held it tightly, before she dropped her hand once more. Diagon Alley had mermaid tears, and all else that was needed was essence of the forest and some water.
"I will do anything for you, Cain," she said, before her cheeks burned red. "Because that's what f-f-friends are for, ri-right?" She smiled at him, trying to cover up her blunder. "Well, I can't c-c-change you for another week, is that long enough?" She asked.
When his excitement fell from his face, she felt her own excitement gradually eb away until she looked confused. Was he doubting his decision? She would respect his choice, but she could already feel the disappointment.
She blinked in surprise at his question. "A little bit, but it's over quickly," she lied. It hurt a lot. But he didn't need to know that.

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Cain found himself taken aback by the way that Ophelia so quickly said that she would do anything for him, and it was something that he felt only added evidence to the fact that she might feel the same way that he does about her, but the stuttering that accompanied it made him a little unsure.
"That is indeed what friends are for, and I would do the exact same for you, and I will be forever in your debt for what you are going to do for me and Faia." he smiled gently, holding Ophelia's hand in his own and squeezing it lightly.
"It is more than long enough." he said with his normal lopsided smile "Thank you."
Cain knew that Ophelia was lying, he didn't know how he just did, his gut instinct told him that he should leave the process for now, and that he would have to find another way. In no way did he want to hurt her.
"I don't want to hurt you Ophelia, not at all, and I think it hurt's more than a little bit." he whispered.

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Ophelia covered her cheeks with her hands, almost feeling angry at herself for blushing so much. It was something she just did all the time, whether it was a slight dis-colouration or just an all-out red-tomato kind of blush, she always seemed to be blushing. It was annoying, actually.
"Yes yes!" She agreed, a little too eagerly and quickly. "I mean, yes of course. Friends should always help one another out. Don't be in my debt, I really don't mind at all!" She exclaimed, smiling up at him.
She felt her cheeks redden slightly as he squeezed her hand. "You're welcome," she murmured.
She knew straight away that he'd recognised her lie. The look on his face said it all, and she sighed heavily. It did hurt, a lot, a searing pain through her body, but it was over quickly and she really didn't mind.
"What is the point of a gift if I never use it? I want to do this for you, Cain. For you and for Faia." She said softly.

Re: Calling to the night (Cain and Ophelia)
Cain smiled gently and he could tell the the way she kept getting flustered was something that Ophelia did not really enjoy, he would try not to make her flustered any more but they both seemed to have a talent for making the other blush without meaning to.
"You know me well enough my now Ophelia to know that even if you tell me not to do something I will do it anyway." he grinned gently, letting his hand drop from hers as it seemed to have made her blush even more.
When Ophelia told him that she truly did want to do this for him, Cain hung his head and didn't think that there was any other option, so maybe, if he allowed her to change him and Faia, he could make her happier as a human, he knew it. It would be worth her going through the pain.
"Well then, I suppose that this is the only way to change myself, and that if you truly don't mind, then we should go ahead with this." he smiled gently "I must say that, the reason I am changing for, is not the one I expressed to you earlier, but something altogether more important."
