Re: The Welcome Dance!
"Oh dear," Alys roiled her eyes at Ava's insinuation. Then she let out a laugh. "He's not bad actually, just acts a bit cocky and says weird stuff sometimes. And it would be so much cooler if you were around to hear it with me. Because I might need you there to one day stop me from running him over with a bicycle."
Alys smiled warmly at Ava, glad to hear the other girl's thoughts on house rivalry. "And, if we end up in different houses, we get more chances of exploring the school," she added conspiratorially. "I heard there was a room full of mirrors here, and an arena for duels..." the blonde trailed off, trying to remember the scarce few things her parents had told her about the school.

A mischievous smirk crossed Ava's face. "Oh there is plenty of trouble to get into around here. If I could give Father a heart attack every three minutes in our manor, this school will give us plenty more opportunities. I'm not much different than Kai, except she gets away with more." Ava complained with an affectionate tone, petting the head of the mentioned cat.
"Now I do believe this is a ball. Care to make idiots of ourselves and share a turn on the dance floor? It could be fun!" Ava pleaded batting her eyes, even little Kai seemed to puff herself up and make herself cuter at the offer.

"Well, I've danced with more questionable company tonight," Alys laughed making sure that Tarragon wasn't within hearing range. "And if nothing else, the boy does know how to dance so..." Alys took a few steps away from Ava and then bowed as gracefully as she could.
"May I have the honor, Ms. King," she said in her best Tarragon imitation, trying not to laugh. "To escort you to the dance floor. And beg your pardon in advance shall it come to pass that I crush your poor feet?"

Ava looked furtively around, before removing her Blackthorn wand from the special pocket sewn into her gown, she mumbled a spell at her feet, then put the wand away. "I don't know any spells that lead you in dancing, but I do know basic shields. If you do step it won't hurt." Ava informed Alys laughing softly, taking her extended hand.
"It would be a pleasure to dance with you Ms. Diederich," Ava replied pulling them onto the dance floor, laughing easily.

Re: The Welcome Dance!
Together, both girls made their way to the dance floor where Alys decided to take the lead no matter how hazardous the consequences of that decision were likely to get. She had already acted the "girl" in her earlier dances so it was only fair that Ava got a turn.
"Please don't hate me if you get hurt," she whispered worried as she spun Ava lightly on the dance floor the way Tarragon had spun her previously. To her delight, Ava seemed to be pretty good on her feet. And from what the blonde could tell, Kai on Ava's shoulder was enjoying the motion too.

Re: The Welcome Dance!
Ava giggled and spun around, allowing Alys to have the lead. Dancing was something she had always enjoyed, when you hate sitting still, have limited freedom, and the only people around are your parents; dancing is one of the last things left to you.
If Alys did step on her toes she didn't feel it through the shield. It was fun and enjoyable. "This is so much fun! I love it." Kai meowed at that moment, almost like she was agreeing too. "Even Kai likes it."
"Are you having fun?" Ava asked, feeling a bit flushed with their twirling, but enjoying it all the same.

Re: The Welcome Dance!
"Are you kidding, this is what dancing should be like," Ava laughed as her cheeks turned rosy once again from the exertion. "Where you don't have to worry about steps or being formal. And especially when I know I can't hurt your feet." The witch grinned and dipped Ava a little. She may have been feeling pleasantly lightheaded but was nowhere near adventurous enough to try out anything more serious then a twirl now and then and a small dip. She didn't want Ava falling down because of her.
"I think this is the most fun I've had since Annika and I decided to go looking for monsters in the arched but ended up stuffing ourselves full of fruits instead."

Ava giggled at her hesitancy to be more daring, "It is so much better this way! I know the formal steps, but mixing them together makes each dance unique and fun, dancing always changes. You can go on for hours and never repeat a step if you felt like it."
"Though stuffing my face with pilfered fruit in the company of friend does sound good too." Ava thought with a fond smile, an orchard was not one of the things on their estate. "We don't have fruit trees, but my step-mother does keep a rose garden near the manor, its her pride and joy."

Re: The Welcome Dance!
"Not in these shoes you can't," Ava giggled and gestured to her pale blue heels. They were small but they were still too sharp and pointy for her taste. The only kind of shoes Alys liked were the ones she could ride her bicycle or climb a tree in.
"Roses can be pretty, but rose gardens are boring. You should introduce some gnomes to the place to make it more interesting," Alys suggested with a wicked gleam in her eye. "After all, even gnomes should be able to appreciate the beauty of well kept roses." She spun Ava around once again as both girls laughed simultaneously.

Re: The Welcome Dance!
Ava looked at the heels like they were death traps, "Dear Merlin, how do you wear those! I would break my neck. Father gave up on putting me in anything but flats when I broke the third set of heels tripping over my own feet. I am always moving around too much!"
"I'm pretty sure if I put a gnome anywhere near her roses, I would get a niffler in my bedroom! That woman does not appreciate a good joke and gives as harsh as she gets. Father refuses to step between us in those occasions." Ava wasn't really upset about it, after eleven years you get used to your guardian's quirks.

Re: The Welcome Dance!
From what Ava said, Alys got the idea that the girl's stepmother was nothing like her Mama. Her Mama would get angry at jokes but eventually, when the fury wore off, she would laugh and even ask where Alys got the idea to, for instance, use a plunger to climb up the side of the school building. Alys supposed her Mama was too used to her and Annika's antics by now to really be surprised at them.
"Well, if she insists on playing rough, you just need a little reinforcement and that garden will be a blooming gnome habitat in no time," Alys said amid giggles. "And if she sends a niffler in your room, well, we can always show it something shiny or give it a gold coin to play with. They only go nuts if they can't find anything shiny or valuable right?"

Ava looked at her for a moment, blinking slowly. "Um Alys, I live with a cat, and I have my own slightly sparkly obsessions, my room has shiny objects in them, value may not be much, but shiny definitely."
Smiling brightly, "But I think it would be worth it, to see the look on her face when those gnomes get her garden, as long as they don't touch the yellow ones, I like those ones." Ava admitted, still dancing, but not as quickly as before.

Re: The Welcome Dance!
"I myself have always liked blue roses. My Mama says they are her absolute favorite and when my Papa asked her to marry him, he had a huge bouquet standing so there was no way she could see no," Alys recounted the tale she had heard hundreds of times before. "I personally like the blue ones because they're so unusual. You never expect girls to like roses that aren't red or pink so it surprises people when you give them an unconventional color."
Deciding to let Ava in on a secret, she said "I can't wait to learn color changing spells. I would charm all the roses I see blue."

Re: The Welcome Dance!
Ava giggled softly at her secret, "That would be fun! I like red, but I don't like red roses, too many stories I have read feature them badly, I prefer yellow or white roses. I have never seen a blue rose in person though, I think that would be pretty."
"I wish I had stories like that about my parents, they care, but they don't show it very well. My Fathers way of showing his love is to make me as strong as possible so I can't be hurt. It kept me safe, but was awful lonely." Ava admitted, not feeling ashamed about it, just glad she was finally meeting friends.

Re: The Welcome Dance!
"I guess people have different ways of showing their feelings. Mama shows us that she loves us by making me wear hideous polka dotted dresses and by making Papa work in the tool shed no matter how tired he is."
Alys was really not liking the idea of Ava having grown up all alone, with a stepmother who's affection was highly questionable. She wished she could do something to help but being eleven and powerless is the kind of reality that hits one pretty hard. Although... maybe there was one thing she could do.
"Hey Ava, do you want to come stay for a bit with me during the holidays?" the blonde asked hesitantly. "We can play exploding snap and make as much noise as we want. And Mama makes the best scones in all of Germany."

Re: The Welcome Dance!
Ava smiled softly, not believing the chance she was getting, "Hehe, you had me at Exploding Snap, I don't think it will be a problem. Father will probably let me go as long as everyone knows me as a King. He is just on this side of paranoid when it comes to me." Ava held up a hand with thumb and forefinger about an inch apart to demonstrate.
"Now you have me excited for the holidays, and we haven't even had our first class yet!" Ava said with a full smile, glad she had decided to sit in Alys cabin on the ship.

Re: The Welcome Dance!
"Oh don't worry about anyone knowing your family. We live among Muggles. Not a magical family in the area besides us that I know of," Alys explained twirling Ava around once more in her excitement.
"We'll have lots of fun, I'll introduce you to Annika, she's weird but really cool too. You know, like friends usually are. Only, don't mention anything magical in front of her because she's a Muggle. Oh, and I can show you my bicycle!"
The idea of showing Ava around her small hometown made the blonde witch grin wide.

Re: The Welcome Dance!
With every word Ava let herself get more excited, this could actually work!
"That sounds really fun," Ava said as she was twirled around, "I can honestly say I have never met a muggle before, so you may want to give me a few tips before we get there. Father taught me the basics of the muggle world, like knowing what a bike, or a car, it but holding a conversation could be difficult." Ava was a bit worried she would slip and give things away. She never had to worry about that before.

Re: The Welcome Dance!
Alys almost laughed at Ava's worry over meeting a Muggle, then realized that's how she would feel meeting pureblood wizards. So the witch bit back her smile and said seriously "well, there isn't much to know. And even if you do slip up, they pretend they heard you wrong or say "excuse me" and you have plenty of chances to correct yourself. And in case you do a major slip up, you can just go back the next day and say that you weren't feeling well. Muggles can be a little slow to keep up though they're very nice. And its ridiculously easy talking with Annika, just ask her what her favorite music is and she'll be talking for the next hour and you won't get a word in edgewise."
Realizing that she had started getting tired and a little hot, Alys asked Ava "shall we take a little break and get some punch? I'm all danced out for the evening."

Re: The Welcome Dance!
Ava was relieved at Alys words, it was what she needed to hear, and at the offer of punch she found herself parched. "Yeah, a break and something to drink sounds good. Its been awhile since I've had anything." Ava admitted, walking over to the punch bowl, Kai still perched precariously on her shoulder, she would have marks in her skin from the little ones claws no doubt about that after all the twirling they did.
Pouring them both a glass, she held out of the cups for Alys to take before gulping down her own. "Go ahead and try it its really good!"

Re: The Welcome Dance!
Raven walked into the hall, glancing at all of the students there and she laughed quietly, this was going to be a fun night, her cane tapping on the floor, top hat over one of her eyes, Raven jumped up on one of the tables and grinned wildly.
"The Sweeney is here!"
Chuckling evilly, Raven actually was excited about this ball. She had her suit custom made to fit her figure exactly, so that the twins might have a hard time tonight and she jumped along the tables, ignoring the food by simply jumping over it.
"Boss man! Nice party, fancy a dance before my dates get here?"
Raven smirked and bowed at the end of the table to the Highmaster, her shirt perhaps a bit too low.

Re: The Welcome Dance!
Viktoria was not very comfortable going to this ball, she never normally wore dresses but she decided that she was going to give it a go because the Doctor was going, and as much as it wasn't strictly professional she had wanted to go with him she just never got up the courage to ask if he wanted to go.
Walking into the hall Viktoria looked around, there were many students and there was Raven, that woman seriously scared her, and she seemed to be asking the Doctor to dance, so Viktoria bit her lip and walked over to the table with the alcohol on it, thinking she'd need some, and smiling as it seemed the Doctor had brought in Iron Bru alcopops.
Believe it or not Viktoria had actually tried her best to look good, she had straightened her short hair, and she had actually gone out to find a dress that looked good on her, or so she thought.

Re: The Welcome Dance!
Sitting quietly at the table which Alys and Ava had left him, Tarragon took his time to take in the scenes around him. Ava and Alys seemed to be having much fun dancing round and round. He could tell from the smiles playing on their faces and some of the over the top gestures meant they were making fun of him earlier, but he knew that it was in good faith.
They soon made their way over to the punch bowl, and he hoped that they may come back over as he didn't wish to pester them. And at this moment, a heavily eccentric woman also entered the room. Tarragon didn't know who she was, "The Sweeney is here!" didn't give much away to him.
And then the older girl entered behind the teacher. He still didn't know as to who she was, an older student? But she looked like she was in her twenties, Tarragon shrugged, he presumed it would all come clear in the coming week.

"Go ahead and try it its really good!"
Alys took a sip and felt the punch burning down her throat in a pleasant stream. She was just about to comment on it when the entire room felt silent as a deranged looking woman in a noticeably odd suit and top hat entered the room and jumped up on the tables, introducing herself as "The Sweeney". From the way she was acting towards the highmaster, it was clear she was a teacher of some sort and that was when Alys decided to avoid her classes if she could help it.
After The Sweeney's dramatic entrance, the sight of young Lehrer Vikki was much welcomed. The girl waved at the flying instructor from across the hall before turning to Ava. "Let's go find Tarragon and see what he's up to. Poor boy must be bored to death without us." Her blue eyes sparkling with mischief, she led Ava to where Tarragon was siting.

"Alys, Ava." He smiles warmly to the girls as they sit back down with him. Still eyeing "The Sweeney" suspiciously across the room.
"You two enjoyed your dance, I see. Tell me, what were you two laughing about whilst over there? From the actions I think I get the gist, but I wondered if I was right." He pulled a mock sad face at the pair of them, before cheekily smiling.
"And what do you suppose she teaches?" He eyes "The Sweeney" suspiciously as she leans over in front of the Doctor. "Seems a bit of an oddball, doesn't she?"
