"And what do you suppose she teaches?"

"I don't know but it can't be psychology." Or at least Alys hoped it wasn't. She really wanted to take that subject but if this woman was teaching it, she'd rather spend the period freezing out in the Entrance Hall. "And whatever she does teach, I'm not taking it," she added in a whisper to Ava and Tarragon.

So far, Alys had met one teacher properly and had a glimpse of a few others. She wondered what else was in stored for them for the academic year. Well, at least things would never get boring around school.

"And whatever she does teach, I'm not taking it,"

Tarragon managed a smile in Alys direction. He hoped that his choices meant he could avoid the woman who was putting herself on show in front of everyone. It made him feel uneasy that she could be a teacher. But not just any teacher, she could be his teacher.

He reached his glass to his mouth and took another sip of the punch. It didn't taste nice to him, but it was keeping him warm, and that was all that mattered. The room had a slight chill, even though there were many people jumping around to the music.

"So, you're both looking forward to the fact lessons tomorrow, I know we have flying lessons together, that is, you've both decided to take it, right?" He hoped they both had, because it would make him more comfortable to be around his two new friends on their first day of lessons.

Raven eyes the student talking and she walked slowly over to them, hearing her name mentioned she chuckled lightly, moving as though mist to settle behind one of the girls, Alys if she had heard correctly and she bent down to whisper in her ear.

"Potions."

Chuckling louder, she drew away and grinned at the students with a wave of her hand, a manic sort of grin on her face.

"I teach potions."

Eyes glittering with mirth Raven grinned slightly wider and tapped her cane on top of the boys head, her mirth suddenly vanishing and she looked deadly serious as she leant her head forward as if to whisper something confidential.

"She. Is the cats whiskers my boy. Professor Sweeney is my name."

"Potions."

The blonde heard the whisper before she felt the presence of someone behind her and to her horror, her back muscles had gone stiff. The woman's breath was cool across her pale skin and Alys felt shivers running up and down her spine as she sat there, unable to form a single word.

Fortunately, the woman moved away on her own accord and proceeded to turn to Tarragon. Alys couldn't help feeling bad for the boy. Her interaction with The Sweeney had taken less than ten seconds long but the fear that gripped her heart would be there fro the rest of the night, she knew.

Another thing she knew was that she was not going to be taking potions.

Konig walked into the welcome ball with his twin by his side. He spared Viktor a glance and his brother did the same. Without a word they split at the door. The twins had been having arguments recently and none of them had been pleasant. At one point the two of them had drawn their knives on each other before realising what it would mean. After that they had never really spoken.

Walking across the room, Konig spotted Raven, dressed in a suit not unlike his own, and chuckled as he stepped closer to her,

"I must say Raven... you look better in a suit than I do." he complimented her as he noticed she was speaking to some students, "Hello students. Having a good night?"

Raven saw the reaction she wanted from the student she had snuck up on and she grinned happily, if not a tad demented while she did so, she wanted to scare as many people as possible tonight then she thought she heard someone making their way over to them.

Turning she smiled softly at the man, Konig, and she embraced him, kissing him passionately as she gripped his head hard.

"Hello baby, thank you, I thought I'd be different from everyone else for a change."

Raven winked at him and spun into his arms comfortably, resting his arm against her waist as if he was holding her against him of his own accord and Raven kissed his neck softly, wondering where Viktor was, she hadn't seen him in a while.

Konig was caught off guard by the response he received from Raven but only for a second. The next second he was kissing her back. He licked his lips,

"Mmm that's the best hello I've ever gotten." he admitted with a smirk, "Well they say normal is boring. I was going to be shirtless but I think the female students would try to mob me."

Raven spun in his arms to press her body against his and he gladly places his hand against her waist to keep her there. He shuddered lightly at the kisses to his neck. Her touch was like fire to him and he loved it. Konig raised an eyebrow,

"Why thank you my dear..." he purred before shrugging a little bit, "He's in a bad mood so by the drinks table I should say."

Once the Lehrers were safely away (and Alys tried not to look at what the blond man was doing to the crazy woman as her cheeks were already blushing) she turned back to her friends.

"Did that woman hurt you?' she asked Tarragon softly, not wanting to know yet compelled to inquire. She wondered how such a person could be given a position in the most renowned Institute of magic in all of Germany. It sure didn't make sense to her. Did Papa know this? No, he couldn't have or he would never have sent her.

"I...uh... no, I don't think so" Tarragon babbled over his words. Slightly confused over what had gone on with the teachers just a moment before, and wondering whether that was actually allowed in this school. Not to mention the force she had hit him with the cane.

"Is that... allowed?" He held his head a little bit now, not wanting "The Sweeney" to see him in painand let her think him weak. "I mean the hitting, no one ever told me they were allowed to hit students here..." He trailed off, not wanting to look weak in front of his new friends.

"honestly," Alys admitted. "I don't think the Sweeney would care if it was allowed or not. She sure doesn't look like she cares." the girl raised her eyes towards the potions mistress once again only to blush deeper. Really, was that necessary in front of unsorted first years? Look at how nicely Lehrer Vikki and the Highmaster conducted themselves. Can't other teachers be the same?

Alys glanced at the dance floor which was almost empty as the night wore on. A group of very loud older boys were laughing about something and the punch bowl was steadily refilling itself as more and people took a drink. Another teacher who looked just like Lehrer Sweeney's... date was by the adult's drinks with several other students who looked to be sleeping. Was it really that late?

Lukas and a few other kids from the 1st year were enjoying a lot. Cracking jokes and laughing without a care in the world. He seemed to have either forgotten the incident on the ship or forgiven the boys for not waking him up on time as they were among the group.

They came over fruit punch counter ever so loudly. Lukas had just taken a big sip of the punch when one of the kids cracked a joke making him laugh so much that he couldn't control and spit out everything with full force.

It took him a few seconds, a screaming cat and shouts from a girl to realise what he had done. A cat seemed to have come to the exact place where his punch landed. He laughed even more after realising what he had done.

"Boy, me and cats don't go together!", Lukas said to himself as he tried to sober down and listen to the girl who appeared to be the owner of that cat.

Alys was quite enjoying watching the punch bowl refilling itself every time someone took a drink - that was until a group of boys blocked her view. She waited patiently for them to move but they seemed to be too busy making stupid jokes. One of the boys had a very familiar looking head but the witch couldn't place it.

She turned to Ava to tell her this but her attention was drawn by the fact that Kai wasn't on her friend's shoulder. "Where's Kai-" she began wearily before seeing a hint of the kitten disappear behind he boys on the punch counter. Oh no, the girl realized with a start. That familiar looking back of head was the same boy from the ship who had kicked a cat. She had to go get Kai now before anything happened to her.

Getting to her feet, Alys made her way to the group of boys as quickly as she could in her heels, holding her dress up with one hand. But by the time she reached, it was only to find the boy laughing and little Kai covered in pink fruit punch.

"You know, I've just about had it with you!" she hissed, scooping the kitten in her arms. "You are such a jerk. What has that kitten ever done to you, you big bully?"

Ava watched the scene with a growing dread. Seeing Alys defend the small kitten was heart warming, but her grey eyes darkened to black as she recognized the boy that kicked a cat on the way off the ship.

Marching her way over to the pair, she heard Alys words to him and couldn't agree more. "Hey whoever you are, you had better have a believable apology ready for me. That is my cat you just spat all over. If you don't have me believing you in the next ten minutes I will hex you so hard your ancestors will feel it!" Ava warned, dropping her tone low, and giving him the most menacing look an angry eleven year old girl could give. He didn't have to know she had never truly cast the spells before, a little bit of fear never hurt anyone.

He tried not to laugh and explain the situation to the girl but he just failed at it miserably because he couldn't stop laughing. He took a few deep breaths and calmed himself down.

He looked in her eyes directly and apologised for his actions as sincerely as he could.

"It was a mistake, it really was. Its not like I aimed at her or something. That thing just happened to be where my punch landed."

"You should keep your cat cage you know.. Why would you call me a bully, I don't even know you I doubt I have ever done anything apart from this incident to you?"

Just as he thought things were getting normal a girl marched up and gave him a nasty little speech. If there is one thing he doesn't like at all is getting his ego hurt.

Matching the new girl's furious eyes he addressed the girl with long legs first and then the new girl.

"This isn't even your cat what the hell did you shout at me for? And as for you... I have said all I have to the tall one here. I am not apologizing again." With that he turned his back to the girls and filled another glass of the fruit punch.

Alys could feel heat traveling up her face as the boy spouted an entirely insincere apology to her face. And then had the nerve to refuse to apologize to Ava. And if Alys knew Ava at all, it was that in two seconds flat, she would be at the older boy's throat, spells be damned. The other witch wouldn't even care that the boy was taller and stronger than her.

"She may not be my cat," the girl said through gritted teeth. "But she is my my friend's." Then, reaching past the boy, the girl filled a small cup with punch and turned to the boy once again.

"Let's see how you like having punch thrown on you, shall we?" she said mock sweetly and emptied the entire cup on his head.

"Come on Ava, lets get away from here!"

Ava was not a gentle person. She didn't give a hoot about blood, but that didn't mean she was a pushover.

This boy was going to pay, she was drawing her wand and preparing to leap on him when Alys intervened. Ava allowed a vicious smirk to cross her face at Alys' actions, but even seeing the cocky baboon covered in punch wasn't helping her anger.

"You listen closely, I am not an empty threat, if it wouldn't upset my new friend your skull would currently be meeting the floor, the fast way. You had best watch your step because some day when you decide to bother some innocent again I will be in the shadows ready to make you pay." Ava threatened, not going into details. She was tough and knew it, and this boy rubbed her the completely wrong way.

"Alys can I please have Kai back now?" Ava requested to repossess her now pink kitten, "Just great, look at the mess you've gotten into. The least this great lump could do is apologize right," Ava was talking to Kai like the cat was listening, but it was entirely for the benefit of the rude boy.

Lukas didn't react to what the girl did. He then patiently listened to the other girl.

He wasn't angry anymore. His face completely serious.

"Boys. Circle." ordered Lukas and the boys instantly followed the order.

"This isn't over girls not by a long shot! What happened with your cat was an accident but what you did was intentional.", said Lukas very coldly as he and the boys where closing in on the girls in a circle so they don't run away.

He was furious. He honestly tried to apologise for his mistake and this is how the girls behave with him in return. He was going to make them pay.

Looking at the shorter of the two he said matter-of-factly," I don't care what you can or cannot do. You hold no interest to me. If you want go ahead and use that piece of wood. Even if you are half as tough as your tongue you might still be over estimating yourself, never threaten somebody unless you know their capabilities. You have not done anything to me so I shall not do anything to you nor shall I apologize to you"

He looked at the cat in the eyes and said he was really sorry for the punch.

Now facing the taller one with anger in his eyes he said but five words, "We are not finished, miss."

He decided not to do anything right now as the number of eyes looking at them had increased dramatically and the last thing he wanted was to have a bad first day with the authorities.

With that he moved back but didn't turn his back on them. Watching them and waiting for them to respond or leave.

Alys had fully expected to be able to walk away from this. She had made her point and Ava had emphasized it brilliantly. What she hadn't expected was to be surrounded by a group of boys she had never met, and that scary look in the mean boy's eyes that made her blood run cold.

Who was she kidding, she wasn't as brave as Ava and didn't even know any spells. The only possible defense she could have was screaming for help or wishing The Sweeney would appear and eat this boy whole. Alys would be useless in a fight.

Luckily, the boy wasn't interested in one.

"We are not finished, miss."

Not with Ava anyway...

The blonde shuddered.

Ava saw Alys was frightened, hugging her in reassurance Ava whispered, "If he doesn't have the guts to talk to us without a pack of boys as back up he isn't as tough as he wants us to think." Ava was trained to fight, using a real wand might take a bit of practice, but the shield charm used on her feet had worked fine. She thought if it came down to it she could defend herself and Alys, but this was the school's welcoming ball, she shouldn't have to.

"Plus we are in a hall full of instructors, threats probably won't be acted on, but you can bet if any of us actually got hurt someone would step in." Ava soothed, then feeling like things could use a little lightening,
"Anyone know how to get pink punch out of a kittens fur?"

Kai herself seemed to be disgusted at the color she had been turned, it wasn't even a pretty shade of pink. Red punch on tan and black fur did not mix well apparently.

Alys stopped shivering as Ava led her away from the boys and hugged her close, murmuring reassurances in her ear. She was right, the boy would never try anything in front of people like The Sweeney around. He was probably just all big words and nothing else.

"Anyone know how to get pink punch out of a kittens fur?"

Those words brought a reluctant smile to the blonde's face as laughter slowly started breaking out across the room.

"Thanks," she whispered to her friend before contemplating the kitten in Ava's arms. "Will she absolutely loath taking a bath?" Alys asked, feeling better.

He ignored the girl's talk and thought carefully before offering his help. Drawing his wand out and pointing it at the cat slowly so that the girls don't think he is attacking them he said, " I know drying and cleaning spells. I've been doing them for a long time now."

"I know you don't trust me but don't worry I won't hurt the cat. If at all you think I have done anything wrong you can blast me off. You seem to know your way around in fights", Lukas said it calmly to the girl with the cat.

"So let me help?", offered Lukas.

Looking down at her disgruntled pink kitten, and back at the boy who held his wand like he knew what he was doing Ava debated with herself. She knew absolutely no cleaning spells, that hadn't been on her Father's list of things to know, and giving Kai a bath was a three hour escapade usually involving much scratching of Ava's skin, not to mention water all over the place. "Well what do you think Kai?"

Kai sneezed and gave an even grumpier look.

"If you harm one whisker on my Kitten you will be so dead." Ava warned, allowing the boy to near Kai, not letting her precious kitten out of her hold.

Viktoria had one second been hopefully waiting for the Doctor to come over to her, her cheeks flushing when she noted how forward Raven and Konig were being, it was quote a display and she wished that they wouldn't, it was very very embarrassing for even her to watch.

Then. She noted what looked like a fight and she raised her eyebrow looking at the students including a girl she had grown quite close to, Alys.

Frowning softly she moved quietly over to them and got the offending boy by the ear twisting it lightly as she looked at the girls with a friendly smile to let them know she had it all under control now, this was annoying balls were supposed to be fun.

"I think you are indeed finished with these girls. Explain yourself! If you had a house right now they would be so ashened of you! It's a ball not some place to show off your bravado."

With her other hand Viktoria tapped the kitten and muttered a cleaning spell so it returned to it's normal state.

"There you go. All better now." she smiled.

"No No No NO NO NO!!", snapped Lukas not believing what just happened. He was just about to do the same spell and get over with this little issue but this stupid lady had to intervene and make him look bad. Why must people just assume, shouldn't they first ask what happened before they conclude and decide who was at fault?

Frustrated by the actions of all the three girls tonight he decided to just get away from them and forget about this before he does something which will result in him getting kicked out on the very first day itself. He cannot afford that to happen. His father would not be impressed at all by his behaviour and how he let his anger affect the situation.

He loudly sighed. He had just snapped at his Lehrer he had to apologise to her and move away. He looked up at the Lehrer, his eyes filled with disgust and said, " I am sorry, Lehrer. Please excuse me now? I promise you will not see me doing anything bad tonight".

With that taken care of the best way possible. Lukas and his gang of boys swiftly excused themselves. He was going to clean up and have fun for now. This was all a big misunderstanding. Wrong place, wrong time, wrong people but that tall girl. She shouldn't have thrown the punch at him. He was going to make her pay for that when the time and place would be right.
