Lesson One - Second Years

[Doctor Florence Nettle]

The Doctor sat in the classroom underneath the standing stones, the entrance to it wide open so that the students would easily find the stairs and walk down into the underground classroom. He had quite the lesson planned for them today. It was going to be the start of their new project; Staves.

Walking into the ancient runes class, Lars always felt at home. He grew up learning about runes, and enjoyed them. They could be carved into objects to give them magical properties, and he enjoyed modifying weapons with rune engravings. It was the underground classroom that gave it a slightly eerie feel, but he loved it. Others might find it creepy, but he didn't. Lars was surprised though, to see a third year student in the class. "Hello Professor, this is second year runes correct?" he asked. "Or do I have the wrong time?"

He would have sworn this was the right time for second year runes. But, he could have been wrong. The more likely of the possibilities though, considering his memory, was that this third year had the wrong time. Professor Nettle would clear up the issue, he knew.

The Doctor rolled the muscles in his neck as he picked up a large wooden stick, much like a walking stick, and handed it to Lars,

"Here you go Lars, the beginning of your project." he told his students with a small smirk, "You hold in your hands the most powerful object a runic fighter can wield, a stave. Of course right now it's blank. Just a heavy stick if we're honest with ourselves. But the project for this year is to turn it into something similar to mine, a weapon."

He drew a symbol on the board, the all seeing eye with light rays coming from it,

"Take your runic carving knife and carve this symbol into the top of your stave very carefully."
