Lesson Two Empty Lesson Two

Post by Raven 'The Sweeney' Drake Thu Dec 29, 2011 10:58 pm

Raven moved into the classroom and she sat at her desk, she was hoping that the people in her class would be less irritating this time although she didn't hold out much hope. She had been in a lot of trouble recently because of the way she treated students.

Raven didn't see the problem with maiming them a little.

Tarragon entered the potions room for the second time. He was a little less scared this time, but not by much. He sat at his desk and pulled out his book, turning to the next potion in the book from the first one they'd done.

"Morning Lehrer" he said to The Sweeney. He didn't wish to call her that out loud, so Lehrer would do for now.

Avangeline walked into the classroom, and smiled at the Instructor. Sweeney looked a little tense, Ava hoped she was alright. Moving right up to the front of the classroom she took her seat.

Ready to start the lesson, Ava looked on eagerly.

Raven chuckled as the class entered and as the boy she disliked and almost killed wasn't here it improved her mood greatly. Frowning as an idea crossed her mind Raven quickly threw that idea to the wind and she opened her arms wide, a razor now in each hand and grinned wolfishly at the students.

"Velcome back. Mvwahahahaha!!"

Moving towards the board Raven jumped and landed on top of it, crouching down she tapped the black board and with a screeching the chalk began to write:

'Poisons'

"Poisons. Today's lesson is on the beauty of a good poison. Tell me. Do you know of any poisons or where they may be found. Shiney housepoints in it for you."

Ava took a moment to think, trying to get her thoughts in order so she could give a good answer.

"Well, many poisons may be found in different parts of plants, usually in the leaves or seeds. A good example of that would be nightshade, yew, and hemlock. Using components of these poisonous plants in a potion can indicate whether the potion is a poison or a medicine."

Avangeline hoped that was a good answer, it wasn't very magical, but it was the answer she felt most confident about.

Raven grinned darkly and nodded, once again her favourite student had come through with an intelligent answer for her, it seemed that the boy was still too scared of her to actually talk more than a few words in her presence.

"Excellent. You may take 5 housepoints."

With that Raven rummaged around in a large jar and pulled out five knots, made out of arteries she had cut out and tied together and placed them on Ava's desk.

"Well done."

Moving on with the lesson Raven gestured to her cauldron on the fire, currently making the batch of poision that the students would be making, she flicked her wand out from her wrist sheath and levitated a book over to her, pointing at the potion the children needed to do.

"Today I will be teaching you how to brew a potion which is very similar to arsenic, so, you will need to get these ingredients; snakes venom, from an asp; porcupine quills; crushed acromantula fang and you will also need to use some mandrake root,"

Pointing to the instructions she grinned;

"Now, you need to get the base potion, and you add the porcupine quills and turn up the heat on the potion, then you must add the mandrake root and stir 5 times anticlockwise to reverse the effects, after this you must add the snakes venom and the acromantula fang. Leave for five minutes. Then dish up your potion and we shall test it." Raven smirks evilly.

Looking at the gift made to her Avangeline was curious about them, but class was starting she would have to ask at a later point, stowing them carefully away in her bag she turned her attention towards her potion.

Ava quickly, but carefully gathered the ingredients, Sweeney was her favorite, she didn't want to mess up so soon. Taking a deep breath she started following the instructions.

The base potion was simple enough, it required a bit of logic, and some knife skills, but manageable. Adding the porcupine quills went fine, as well as turning up the heat, she gained confidence as she went. she was always better at practicals then theory, book learning bored her, this was much more fun.

Mandrake root was tricky to work with, but Ava felt she managed okay, adding it carefully before stirring five times in opposite of her instinct, causing her to get a bit nervous but the directions did say anti-clockwise. She handled the snake venom very nimbly, the serpentine ingredient intriguing her, she loved snakes. Coming to the spider fangs she shivered a bit, she wasn't afraid of spiders, but she didn't like them either. Finally everything was in the cauldron and nothing had blown up, feeling optimistic she stepped back to allow it to sit for the five minutes the directions dictated.

Ravens eyes glinted in the light of the potions brewing and she grinned happily, it looked like the favourite student of herself was getting the potion exactly right, looking at the brewing cauldron she waited five minutes until the potion was brewed properly.

"Excellent Ava. Let's see if it works."

Picking up the ladle on her desk Raven scooped up some of her potion into a bowl in the corner and as soon as that happened she heard an odd clinking noise that only signalled her pets coming, then he appeared a large, patchy, seemingly rabid dog.

Without question it drank the potion and some time later keeled over. Raven clapped like an excited child and reached in the jar: "Ten more housepoints!! Well done on being competent enough to brew a potion!"

"Lesson dismissed!" she said happily and went back to humming contentedly.
