The Interview of the Wandering Lust (Hani and Perse)

[Hannibal Matthews]

Hannibal waited in the small private room for the woman who was set to interview him for Wanderlust. He was dressed in a dark grey suit and had a pair of black gloves on that he had no intention of taking off just yet, if at all. He was already in his business mode; cool and aloof, with more than a hint of confidence in there for good measure.

He had arrived early but even still he couldn't resist the urge to check it on his fob watch, flicking it open before closing it with a snap. Hannibal had decided not to sit down just yet and was instead standing by the table which held only a jug of cold water and two glasses. Pouring himself a glass of water, he sipped at it patiently while on the inside he was rather irate.

Who didn't turn up half an hour early to their own interview?

Persephone was the most nervous she had ever been, she was standing in for her friend, Katie who was at the moment dying in bed with a very bed case of the flu and she was drafted into help her with this interview with the biggest business man to walk the planet...or something like that anyway.

Pulling into the car park in her vintage mini, Persephone jumped out and she locked the car, flinging her bag over her shoulder and clumsily walking into the building that she was going to be interviewing the guy in, wow, this was the most expensive looking place she'd been in...ever.

After being directed to the room where the man was waiting, Hannibal Matthews the sheet her friend gave her said, and she opened the door, a small nervous smile on her lips but as she stepped into the room she stumbled, cheeks aflame she tried to redeem herself.

"Uhm, hello Mr, Matthews, I didn't think that you were going to be here so early."

Hannibal turned as the door opened, regarding the woman with a cool and unflinching gaze. He noted that she was a strikingly beautiful woman but there was no physical sign that he had even acknowledged her attractiveness. She'd have to work to get a compliment from him after all. Of course when she stumbled into the room he raised an eyebrow as he realised something,

"Hello Miss." he greeted her rather cooly, crisply, "I find that it is far better to be too early than to be too late. Wouldn't you agree?"

It wasn't meant as a jab as Hannibal really didn't see the point in insulting this beautiful woman. He did pause for a second before taking a sip of water,

"I have seen a picture of Katie Waterson and you are not her." he noted, "Has something happened?"

Persephone gasped quietly and she bit her lip, she hadn't thought that she would be anywhere near late, Katie would have killed her if she was even a microsecond late...now she was being kind of lectured by this guy she didn't even know.

"Y-yes I guess so, that's why I was twenty minutes early." Persephone laughed nervously, and if she could have, she would have sweatdropped like in her favourite anime shows but she merely gestured to a seat "May I sit?"

Seeing him pick up on the fact she was not Katie, Persephone smiled softly and decided that she had better elaborate, she had only been in his presence a minute or two and she was already feeling really intimidated, maybe it was knowing how powerful this guy is.

"Uh yes, Katie is in bed with a really bad case of the flu, I'm her roomate Persephone Walker, I hope you don't mind me standing in for her, might I set up a recorder so she can compose the article when feeling better?"

Hannibal thought about it and checked his pocket watch to be sure. She was right, she was twenty minutes early. Had he been anyone else that would have been plenty of time to get ready and set up. However, he was not anyone else. He was Hannibal Matthews and he was always prompt. He nodded once,

"Yes you are twenty minutes early. An acceptable amount of time by anyone's standards." he agreed without any real warmth. She had been early, he liked that, but she had not been earlier than him, he did not like that. He nodded, "You may."

Hearing that Katie Waterson had the flu and was, therefore, not doing the interview, made Hannibal frown. Not because he liked Katie, he much preferred the beauty of this Persephone Walker to the looks of the woman he'd seen in pictures of Katie. He nodded,

"That would be fine." he agreed as he sat down in an armchair, sipping his water, "We may begin whenever you like Miss Walker."

Persephone looked over the papers that Katie had given her and she really wished that she had been able to get a biography about the guy before she had come to ask him these questions, however Katie had just sent her off to this interview without any other information whatsoever.

Setting up the recorder, Persephone smiled lightly and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, it was going to be one hell of an interview with a guy so stoic as this one.

"Uhm, so I'll just read out the questions that she's written here." looking down the list she smiled softly and decided on a rather safe one for the time being "What inspires you to be the great business man you are today?"

Hannibal could tell by the way that Persephone was looking at the papers, with a sort of desperation, that she hadn't had time to look them over. That meant that this interview was probably going to get really annoying rather quickly as she asked him questions that were common knowledge. And questions that had been made 'no go' areas for other writers.

He had to admire her determination though, she set the recorder up and tried to act as professional as possible despite her lack of time to prepare,

"Very well." he replied crisply, not seeing any reason to add anything to his statement of acknowledgement. He raised an eyebrow before sighing almost silently, "My inspiration to be the best businessman I can be is that I will accept nothing less than perfection from myself. This extends to my business and activities."

Persephone blinked at the reply from Hannibal, it was so strange that he seemed to be able to answer in a polite way yet still manage to make her feel stupid at the same time. With a small sigh, Persephone looked through the rest of the questions, but couldn't resist commenting;

"Many people would say that nobody is perfect, I'm guessing you are not one of the people who disagree with that statement?" she asked with a raised eyebrow, before she felt like slapping herself, damn her and her smart mouth!

Blushing a little bit she coughed and looked through the rest of the questions again, and thinking about how muhc Katie owed her for doing this stupid interview with this stuck up guy. who she could tell thought that the sooner she got back to her mini the better.

"What kind of extra curricular things do you enjoy?" she asked conversationally.

Hannibal could tell that Persephone was beginning to get a little bit uncomfortable. It was rather amusing to him if he was honest. And it appealled to a darker side of him to see her looking so helpless. He reigned in that line of thought, not wanting to have a physical reaction to the images that would come from it,

"No I would agree that no one is perfect." he allowed her a small shrug. He wasn't perfect after all and he tried his damnest to be as perfect as possible. Sipping at his water, he gave her the faintest of smirks, "I just think that people should see it as a challenge."

She was blushing again. Such an innocent action and it was giving him such mature and rather dirty thoughts that would probably be best left alone for now. No matter how much he wanted to test how into it she would be. He smirked slightly more, a cool and aloof smirk,

"Oh all of the classics." he told her lightly, "Driving fast cars, drinking expensive wines and spending time with beautiful women. I'm glad that I'm doing one such activity right now."

Persephone sighed gently, it was something that really was grating on her, this whole perfect thing, she knew that she was not perfect in any way at all and she was quite happy with being that way, it seemed however that Mr, Matthews was one such person who needed to be in complete control.

"Uh-huh..." she noted, and she ran her hand through her hair as she thought about his answer "Life's enough of a challenge for most people, who aren't earning £10,000 an hour or something crazy like that." Persephone muttered to herself.

Rolling her eyes slightly, Persephone stuggled to remain polite and she bit her tongue, wanting to keep herself from offending the man in front of her, Katie would murder her if he cancelled the interview because of it. It wouldn't be worth it.

"Are you gay?" she asked simply, before doing a double take and blinking at the paper "Wow Katie,...just wow."

Hannibal had to have good senses since he was an animagus, meaning he had some of his animal's advantages when in human form. As such it was easy for him to pick up the comment she made. Of course he was more than mildly annoyed by the fact that she just assumed that he'd started off like he was now. As if he hadn't had to struggle to get what he wanted. His face formed a neutral mask, all emotions dropping from it immediately,

"I started with a wand and a sickle Miss Walker." He told her quietly but firmly, "All it takes is drive."

He took a deep breath, almost silently so as to not be seen to have to reign in his emotions, before shaking his head slightly. Hannibal raised an eyebrow,

"I'm glad that you're doing this interview rather than Miss Waterson." he told her with a small smirk before shaking his head, "No, I'm straight. I'm just looking for the right woman for me."

Persephone's eyes widened and her cheeks flushed when he picked up on what she had muttered, oh the embarrassment, it was so hard to speak to someone who she really didn't know about, she wondered if she had offended him, the neutral emotionless face made her heart jump.

"Oh...I...I'm sorry." she squeaked out "This is why I should have asked Katie for a biography before I came." Persephone whispered quietly, hanging her head gently.

Blinking when Hannibal told her that he was glad she was doing the interview, Persephone felt herself beginning to flush and she quashed the need to swoon over the handsome business man in front of her, as he was breathtakingly handsome, Katie didn't tell her THAT this morning.

"S-sorry about that question." she apologised before she looked at some other questions, "Are you looking to expand into any other businesses at the present time?"

Hannibal could tell by the cute little blush that painted her cheeks that she hadn't meant to be heard but, more than that, she also hadn't meant to offend. It was rare to find someone innocent enough to genuinely not mean to cause offence. His neutral mask stayed in place for awhile longer though,

"You weren't to know." he replied, casually dismissing any offence before he chuckled slightly, "You'd have wasted your time. Most biographies don't know a lot about me, most of it is guess work."

He smirked slightly when she continued to blush more and more. Wow she really was an innocent one wasn't she? Or perhaps she was attracted to him? He liked the second possibility more than the first. After all, she was a stunning woman and her innocence really made her prime prey for his darker side,

"It's alright." he assured her with that same smirk before he became slightly aloof, as if trying to detach himself from his next statement, "I'm starting up a small charity. To help children who run away from home."

Persephone looked at the papers that she placed on the desk and she dared to look up at Hannibal's eyes in front of her they were very intense and the mood swings were beginning to do her head in, she really disliked trying to figure out his moods, and she didnt even think she;d be seeing him again.

"Why are most biographies guess work Mr, Matthews? A deeply private man are you?" she tilted her head to one side "You could always make a backstory up, being an enigma makes you more interesting to the press."

There it was again! His mood changed! She really did think that this interview was going to be short and sweet if he kept doing a Jekyll and Hyde every minute or so. Interested though she asked, free of the list of questions;

"Really? That sounds like an interesting charity, is it something close to your heart?" she asked with a soft smile.

Hannibal could tell that Persephone was interested in him, despite not being a member of the press herself. Or perhaps she was and just got caught off guard? He didn't know. Of course she also seemed to be getting a little bit frustrated with him. Oh well, couldn't win everyone round in the first five minutes,

"I am a private man, Miss Walker. I've told you more about my beginnings than anyone else in the past ten years." he told her calmly, before shaking his head, "I suppose I could but I think I'll let them flonder around for awhile yet."

Hannibal paused for a moment, wondering what he should tell Persephone about why he was starting the charity. Deciding that it couldn't hurt to tell her the truth he nodded slightly,

"Very close." he admitted quietly, "I was a child who ran away from home."

Persephone smiled softly she felt herself torn between being flattered and not believing what Mr, Matthews told her when he said he had told her more about his upbringing than anyone else, he hadn't even told her anything of significance. How closed must he be? It made her all the more curious!

"Well you surely are a tight lipped person, I'm surprised you even agreed to the interview in the first place, only I know how persistant Katie can be." she smiled softly.

Blinking in shock, Persephone's mouth opened and closed slightly before her comment from before came back to haunt her, her subconsious was screaming at her how much of a jerk she was for even incinuating what she did.

"Oh...oh I see." she blushed "I won't include that, if you don't want me to Mr, Matthews, I know that you don't want the press to have a feild day, even if this is for a small time magazine. Uhm...next question, what advice would you give to any young business makers?"

Hannibal could tell that Persephone was now even more interested in him and he had to admit he could see what she was talking about. He was a bit of an enigma what with all the secrets and the fact that he revealed almost nothing about himself to the press or anyone around him,

"I am indeed tight lipped." he agreed before chuckling slightly, "I decided that I should at least talk to the press and she was the next person after the decision to try and get an interview. Of course I doubt I'd speak to her as freely as I speak to you."

Seeing that she was going into full melt down mode, probably because of her comment about challenges earlier, he merely raised a hand,

"Don't worry Miss Walker. It's an old, well healed, wound." he told her with a faint smile before he thought about what to say, "Advice? Keep calm and carry on. Very british I know but keeping a level head does wonders."

Persephone smiled softly and she was glad to hear that it wasn't just because Katie had constantly paged this guys cellphone that he had eventually agreed to allow her to interview him. She had told her that it was a big deal but....she was beginning to understand how big.

"So if you are going to be more open to the press, what would you be up to discussing?" she asked quietly "Maybe, if your family influenced you in any way, so no specifics are given away, I don't want to have you or them bothered after all."

Seeing Mr. Matthews raise a hand, Persephone felt like she could breathe again, and she sighed when she saw that the half an hour interview was getting much closer to being finished. With a small smile on her lips she continued;

"The last few questions, then I'll get out of your hair, If you could buy any business in the world, what business would you buy?" she asked happily.

Hannibal wasn't one to respond to frantic messagers and the other woman, Katie, had struck him as that kind of person due to the tone of her first message. So he'd saved his secretary some time and effort by just responding immediately. She hadn't really had chance to push him because he'd reacted faster than she'd expected,

"Well there are going to be areas that I will not answer questions on. Where do I live, who am I in a relationship with..." he paused for a few moments, completely silent, before he finally spoke again, "And anything to do with my family."

He almost chuckled a little bit at how relieved she looked when he dissmively waved off the tension she must have been feeling,

"Well then please ask away. I wouldn't want to waste your day." he commented with a small smirk before chuckling slightly, "Honestly? Harrods. Or Hamleys."

Persephone blinked, well they were the things that people didn't know about and would want to know about! She almost let out a frustrated sigh and she wanted to point out how pointless this was to her, after all opening up to the press wasn't seeming very...open.

"Who you are in a relationship with?" she asked, tilting her head to one side, letting her blonde hair fall across her eyes slightly "Well I would hope nobody, otherwise you hitting on me earlier isn't something you'd want to be recorded."

As soon as he said to ask away, she waited for the question to be answered before continuing;

"People have often thought that you are going to be taking up a position in British Ministry of Magic , is this something you would be interested in?" Persephone asked with a happy smile, questions like this ought to be safe from glares and mood swings...right?
