A New Day and a New Teacher (Lesson 3) Empty A New Day and a New Teacher (Lesson 3)

Jay walked into his classroom silently and watched his students. It was a new year and with than new horizons to be explored. He smiled and moved toward his desk at the front taking out his wand. "Good Morning and welcome to Transfiguration" With a flick of his wand writing began to appear on the blackboard behind him.

Prof: Jabbar Mortiz

"This is my name but you may call me Professor Jay and this" He paused tapping the desk and waiting for the white tiger to climb on it. "Is why you should pay attention to instructions" He watched the student's reactions for a minute before he began to explain that he was NOT going to feed failing students to Senna despite what the rumors insisted and that Senna was originally a cat that had been transfigured by himself because he had not paid attention to directions. "Don't make the same mistake that I have" Senna moved closer to the students. "Other wise you wouldn't be learning anything and that is why you came to Durmstrang, to learn."

He smiled, leaning against his desk. "Any questions, comments, complains?" He wanted to get to know his new students.

Alys took in the new professor, staring in equal parts fascination and fright at him and then the tiger on the desk. He looked fairly young and she had to admit he had a way of capturing his student's attention. Glancing once again at the tiger, the witch wondered if it really had been transfigured by mistake and if all this wasn't some sort of a joke the teacher wanted to start the class with.

Raising her hand carefully, the witch asked the first question that came to mind. "Will the points from our previous lesson with the Highmaster still be counted, sir?"

Aquila strode into the classroom, staring at the new teacher once before looking in another direction at the Mühe student. She chose a seat in the back of the classroom and sat down, bored even before the class had begun which wasn't un-common for Aquila. She found lessons to be dull and repetitive, whilst being outside was enjoyable and new- even when it was cold. In fact, she loved it when it was cold because that meant she could bundle up to the point where people wouldn't recognise her when she played a prank on them.

Cold also meant a chance of snow, and Aquila's all time favourite thing was to charm a snowball to hit a teacher in the back of the head repetitively. She smirked as she remembered her mother's ex- boyfriend who had been cheating on her walking along and being confused by her snowball hitting him in the back of the head over and over.

Her attention was suddenly caught by a tiger, and her eyes widened. She raised her hand. "Excuse me, Professor, but what is a tiger doing in our classroom?" She asked, eyebrows raised.

Tarragon entered the class, just as a tiger jumped up onto the teachers desk, he fell out the door backwards. He'd never seen a tiger before, and that had just scared him beyond belief. He looked over at Alys and made his way over quickly to her desk.

"What the hell is going on?" He asked Alys in a whisper.

"A very good question" He smiled. "Yes, you've earned them so who am I to take them away for no reason" He sat on his desk. "If you had been listening, you would've know, the 'tiger' is my pet. Senna say hi to the class" The white tiger sat on it's back lags and lifted her front left paw tilting her head to the side.

Jabbar's attention was caught by the fallen student. "Are you alright? Come on in, don't worry about the cat" He smiled and waited for him to take a seat.

"Any other questions? You're all awfully quiet. "

"Can we get on with the lesson, sir?" Tarragon asked as politely as he could, all the nicey nicey of the new teachers was starting to get too much for him, and he just wanted to learn something new.

He leant on the desk until the teacher decided he would start teaching.

"Very well" He smiled. "Today we are going to review some basic information before we get to transfigure things... or people." He shrugged taking his ivy wand out of his black robes.

"Transfiguration is divided into four categories" He began to walk between the tables. "There is Transformation" Jay aimed at his own table turning it into a tree. "Vanishment" He waved his wand causing one of the student's table to disappear and continued to walk. "Conjuration" Jay turned once again to the tree and yellow birds began to fly around it before landing on the branches. "And the hardest of them all, Untransfiguration" With another wave of his wand the tree returned to it's original form as a desk, the birds disappeared and the student's desk was restored to the classroom.

"Now, there are many spells, each for different items." He stopped at the from of the class. "Who would like to demonstrate a spell? Just choose a category and come up front." He waited for someone to volunteer. "This class will be mostly practical, I rather see you cast the spell that read a twelve inch essay on it and I'm betting you do too."

When none of her classmates volunteered to demonstrate, Alys tentatively got to her feet and walked to the front of the class, all the while willing herself not to blush. She only knew a few spells but she had tried hard to cast them properly.

Once in front, the witch looked at the teacher without really meeting his eye and mumbled "I think this falls under the transformation category, sir." Lifting her wand and jabbing it the way she had been practicing for a while now, the pointed to a roll of parchment on the teacher's own desk and said clearly "Engorgio!"

To her delight, the roll of parchment grew three times in size. All her practicing had paid off.

This was Terrence last class of the day. Transfiguration, and after the list of spells they were going to be working on he had a idea of what it was about. If Terrence would have had a little more money to just blow he would have bought a whole lot of books on magic things when he bought his school supplies.

Once again not wanting to upset any teachers he calmly knocked on the door and went in.

"Excuse me, Is this the class for Transfiguration?"

"Yes, come on in." He waved at the student at the door. "It seems that we are running out of time so I will release you now. Make sure you're here on time and ready to cast some spells" Jay cleared the black board. His first class had been uneventful.

"And five points for Ms. Diederich for being the only volunteer" He smiled as the students began to leave the class.
